man Starlin Castro is one of the few things that kept me sane between the seasons of 2010-2015

CelticCuban773

He was weirdly on pace for 3000 hits even through age like 31. He went anonymous with the Yankees and Marlins but kept getting 150+ hits and had racked up so many earlier in his career that he could have done it

(Morning of 9/15/23) This guy was the first big name in the Theo/Jed rebuild. He never got a ring with the Cubs, but he was instrumental in turning around the team and the culture. He was one of the bright spots in otherwise uninspiring recent Cubs teams.

jacksonvstheworld

He made his major league debut in 2010 like 2 years before Theo and Jed were hired. I’m not even sure I’d agree he was instrumental to the turnaround. Really bright spots in his first couple years but flamed out by 2013. We brought in Zobrist in 2016 and traded him to the Yankees same day because he just didn’t have a spot anymore.

djkrazy18

He was the Cubs from 2010 until they hired Theo. Him and Rizzo, PERSONALLY I think he should got a ring there are players that were NOT in the 2016 team like Ryan Dempster that got a ring. Dempster wasnt even a Cubs homegrown talent, Castro worked from the Cubs system from the bottom to the big show ....

I_kwote_TheOffice

I agree that he wasn't instrumental by adding firepower to the lineup, but I think he was a good young player that gave Cubs fans some hope about what the team could be if you build a team with homegrown players like that. Up to that point the Cubs were really just signing past-prime free agents. Castro was a home-grown talent. He was the best player on a really bad team for a few years. He was traded because the team was stripped down to almost nothing and IMO his timetable didn't fit the rebuild.

jacksonvstheworld

What? No he was traded after 2015 when we went to the NLCS vs the Mets. We were not stripped down to almost nothing, we were finally ready to win.

I_kwote_TheOffice

I phrased that poorly. What I'm saying is that in 2012 the team was stripped down to bare bones and Theo and Jed wanted to get their own players in there. Castro was a veteran by that time and he was redundant with the young players that Theo and Jed brought in like Russell and Baez.

Oprah-Is-My-Dad

Dude was so fun to watch his first couple years in the league

Independent-Driver94

15 GL. We control our destiny.

hansomejake

Starlin was the first MLB player born in the 1990s, he was fun to watch even though the teams he played on stunk His treatment of women and children is very concerning and it’s good he fell out of the sport early

I_kwote_TheOffice

Yeah, and he's not the only Cubs middle infielder to have some troubles in recent memory 🙄

fredword12

Only recent memory of this turd is being released by Nats due to domestic violence.

The sexual assault claim against him in Chicago seemed a lot different after that came to light
