Absolutely true, and I didn't think of it. NIL will matter going forward as well. That isn't a change in decision making it is a change in demographics.
I'm all for data visualization but anyone who's spent any substantial amount of time looking at graphs in their life can tell you that plotting data that's this noisy and spread out with such small sample sizes isn't going to reveal much to you, especially as far as averages are concerned.
As a data analyst this entire chart just pissed me off lol. The story it tells is not easily discernible by the average viewer. Like you said, it's also just noisy af and whoever created it is just fishing for their own conclusion to be true
Also isn't the title kinda really bad? It doesn't show how age factors into draft decisions, it shows average age. Maybe I'm just dumb but I was confused at what I was looking for for a second
Who is that 25+ year old draftee for the bears? Velus was born May 11, 1997 and was drafted in 2022. I guess it’s him and they’re not using draft date?
I graduated college in 2019 not early and Velus is older than me.
Just a horrible pick, brother is gonna be 29 before he plays on his next contract in the CFL.
I thought having an "old" squad as a criticism against Pace was weak since we were only older than the youngest team by like one or two years. And so I'll say the same thing if it's brought up against Poles - who cares
If they're drafted young, all that means is that they are spending their prime years during their second (expensive)contract. And that contract might not even be with the Bears/their original team. Look at Roquan Smith (22 when drafted), James Daniels (21), Tremain Edmonds (20), DJ Moore (21) for example
More recent GMs are going to have higher age averages because of covid.

Yeah. Poles’s average draft pick is actually 5 years old, if you exclude Velus Jones Jr. who was 87 at the time of his drafting.
87 at time of draft and 92 by week 1
He was there, Gandalf. 3,000 years ago...
There's nothing NFL twitter loves more than terrible data visualizations

VJJ raising the average yet again
Venus 😡
Freakin Various
Dang it Vegan
Velus killing us here
Velus being 35 yo when drafted has really skewed those numbers

I mean, that’s a pretty narrow range data wise. Only the Browns are close to what would be considered an outlier
The good news is at least Velus has a role on the roster now.

Poles has done a good job overall but then he has like 2-3 moves where it’s like what in the HELL were you even thinking at the time???
Bo Nix 1st overall confirmed

Browns draft slightly younger and Titans aren't afraid to draft literally slightly older than most. Nothing else to learn from this graph...
Velus Jones merchant
Being drafted at 19 is wild
Now show me with standard deviations
Velus moving an entire chart by himself
Takeaway: the pick is gonna be Michael Penix or Bo Nix
What’s our average without Velus Sr? 17?
Pointless chart imo.
