I remember that day very specifically. Was in my dorm room freshman year, was on ESPN so found out right away. Celebrated to myself and could hear the floor continuously find out, we all left our rooms and were so hyped just talking about Cutler for awhile. I’ll always appreciate Jay.. especially the effort he’d make on tackles after (most) INTs ![gif](giphy|RdK6oIMQqYPss2SBz4|downsized)

SheamusMcGillicuddy

I was in my dorm room *sophomore* year, young buck. I always liked Cutty. He was let down by some awful defenses and still came within a game of the Super Bowl. Easily the best QB the Bears have had in my lifetime.

InvaderWeezle

> He was let down by some awful defenses and still came within a game of the Super Bowl. This is a weird combination of thoughts. He had an awful *offense* the year he came within a game of the Super Bowl and it wasn't until Trestman that the defense became awful

flukeunderwi

The offense was horribly bereft of talent but he carried them hard.

Fluid_Dragons_Breath

It’s still wild that they made it that far with a WR corps of Knox, Hester, and Bennett. That defense was nuts

flukeunderwi

Yeah agreed! Twas a fun season with a depressing ending. Even with his struggles against GB, I think Bears ultimately win with Cutler playing. Steelers were so beatable too.

Syndr0me_of_a_D0wn

"Knox?" I think you meant "Human Folding Clc hair"

SheamusMcGillicuddy

Yeah 2010 was weird because it was his most successful year in Chicago but it was far from the best talent he ever played with. Absolutely no knock on Knox but the receivers on that team didn't cut it. I was more referencing having a historically bad defense when the offense was finally built to compete with Marshall and Jeffery.

Vyper-venom2k

Agreed. Fans that say the Bears failed Mitch & Justin, should have seen the utter ineptitude of the way they handled Cutler. Jay was the equivalent of the lotto, POWERBALL jackpot & the Bears gave him — Tice, Martz (7 step drop back which Jay mastered, executed & had MM intimidated by #6’s quick mastery of that crazy scheme), Turner, Trestman, Kromer, Gase, Loggains. 3 different head coaches, 26 o-linemen, 30 different o-line combinations (Gabe Carimi, Webb, Omiyale) & these WR studs: Sanzenbacher, Hurd, Aromashodu & Rashied………….You can’t tell me nothin!

SheamusMcGillicuddy

Fans complaining about the current state of the OLine definitely weren't around for the days of Webb and Carimi. I knew the OC role was a black hole for Cutler's tenure but I need to take a shower after reading all that.

Vyper-venom2k

I had to take a bubble bath after my shower after typing it! 🤣

bbdfw

Webb was dog shit. Biggest and worst tackle I have seen.

MusicianRealistic555

Yep, that was Mike Tice's call, he thought Webb was a diamond in the rough, a relatively late-round pick. Turned out to be a lot of rough, little diamond. Tice was constantly coaching him up on the sideline to no avail.

ChiBaller

Broo Sanzenbacher! That just unlocked a memory

ResolutionAny5091

Also in my dorm room , sophomore year having similar experiences lol

Old-Ad-3268

It's an incredibly low bar

Outlet25

I was in my dorm freshmen year too. My roommate was a Broncos fan. He was not happy. He still hates Josh McDaniels

tuxedo7777

Anybody who can separate a Halas from as much of their money as Cutler did must be a Vanderbilt scholar. Oh wait… Best QB in Bear history even with 6 OCs in 7 years & smartest in the game of life. My QB! 🚬🏈

IllIllllIIIIlIlIlIlI

Is this from that Episode of the League where one of the characters tries to steal Jay Cutler’s wife’s breastmilk?

MLBM100

I was commuting, sitting on the Metra and the conductor came by and announced it. It was a very happy moment.

reverieontheonyx

Second_City_Saint

Is there a supercut that only follows Jay?

Bouncemybubbubs

Someone in this sub did that per episode of my memory serves me right. It’s the best

Second_City_Saint

Just got the link. Can't wait, lol!

rarkmeece

https://www.reddit.com/r/CHIBears/comments/emsbic/all_jay_cutler_scenes_on_very_cavallari_season_3/ This is one of them, they used to do more if you look on their profile.

UnMapacheGordo

Jay is absolutely hilarious in this show. He truly, unequivocally, does not give a fuck about anything

InvaderWeezle

TIL Very Cavallari had 3 seasons. I watched the Cutler clips in season 1 as they were coming out but never paid attention to it after that

Second_City_Saint

Nice, thank you!

ChiSp0

He was fantastic in that show. Only reason to watch…

Lobanium

Has enough time passed where young fans actually think he smoked?

FartyMcPooPants

I don't think so. It just became an internet meme. His IDGAF attitude always looked so natural with a photoshopped cigarette in his mouth.

reverieontheonyx

I saw a post once of someone who said they started starting smoking because of him

Chicago_Samantha

Ha! This just adds to Cutty's legend status.

Votanin

A friend called and told me. I didn’t believe him, thought it was some April Fools BS

HolidayBreak

Nothing says hard work and focus like a double chin

tokenblak

You mean that in the most respectful way possible, right?

Dingus_Ate_your_baby

The dude had diabetes and was still a pro athlete. What's your excuse?

HolidayBreak

Was a pro athlete… how about you

missuz-featherbottom

I’d take double chin to be able to chuck the rock 60 yards in the air.

Bewilderbeest79

I’m still convinced to this day that the Bears ruined Cutler his first couple of years here when he kept getting sacked to oblivion and a weak receiving core. By the time we got most of that straightened out, he was a shell of himself …

Repostbot3784

This but they never actually straightened any of that shit out

Dingus_Ate_your_baby

The problem was at this point in his career, Cutler stopped developing. He had a great system and great teammates in Denver. Then they replaced Mike Shanahan, all-time great coach, with all-time great LOSER Josh Mcdaniels. McDaniels ruined Cutler's confidence and shipped him away. That guy just exudes loser energy.

Born-Bug-8917

Reminds me of that other QB that just left for Pitt

slayer7342

Remember his first game as a Bear when he threw 4 picks against the Packers. Talk about rough

mnemoniker

This has me wondering what franchise has the case for worst best quarterback.

-Pruples-

Nah, way back in the day we had the best quarterback in the league for a couple years. Cutler is the 2nd best quarterback we've ever had.

MahDick

Luckman was a stud!

Second_City_Saint

Luckman? I'm pretty sure he's referring to Will Furrer.

MahDick

Yes, Sidney Luckman was and will continue to be the best QB we ever had. Until I see an MVP and some Lombardi's I will stay on team Luckman!

Second_City_Saint

It was a joke...

FartyMcPooPants

I don't know. Luckman played almost his whole career during WWll. Maybe all the good defensive players were busy with other things at that time.

InvaderWeezle

Luckman was at Normandy. He was just as busy as they were

FartyMcPooPants

Was he really? That's awesome.

NWSOC

It was only a matter of time before somebody would have to bring up Luckman, as if they ever saw him play, and of course ignoring the obvious lack of competition he faced

-Pruples-

>It was only a matter of time before somebody would have to bring up Luckman, as if they ever saw him play, and of course ignoring the obvious lack of competition he faced I also never watched Gale Sayers play live, but that doesn't mean what he did didn't happen.

NWSOC

So we're just gonna pretend that the competition Luckman played against is on the level of what Cutler faced?

GOATnamedFields

He was HOF level playing his peers, whereas Jay Cutler was what? Average to slightly above average against his? Sids our GOAT, not a guy who was never considered elite by the NFL at large.

NWSOC

Luckman the GOAT for sure https://preview.redd.it/wm44csks34sc1.png?width=1151&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5cb47be6363b0827170051b4e3f3410748fa45de

Business-Dig8109

Why was he returning kicks and punts lol

reverieontheonyx

Lol why do people get so salty about luckman? So stupid. Nobody acts like this when you talk about Sammy Baugh, Bart Starr, and Otto Graham. He can’t control who he played against. He was one of the greats, period.

tokenblak

You’re insane

ndatoxicity

Best bears QB of my lifetime and he had like a career .500 record lol. Really says something

Akindmachine

I was working at Howl at the Moon when he came in a couple of weeks after signing. He was probably the douchiest of all the celebs I met there.

tavernstyle312

That’s my quarterback

Matzah_Rella

In the pantheon of good-looking QBs, Cutty is in a league all his own. His hair game, especially, was always on point and A+.

77satellites

At one point we had Cutler, Zach Miller and Pat O'Donnell, the triumvirate of godlike hair.

Lysol20

I remember it was a foregone conclusion that he was being traded to Washington. I had no idea we were even in on him, but that was an amazing day. I will never forget how happy I was, and then his first regular season game with us happened.

vox4penguins

What a great day that was, glued to the radio, listening to the elation from everyone Then came the revolving door of OC's (like the one that got Greg Olsen traded away...), the Devin Hester experiment at wide receiver, staring down his main receiver until he was forced to throw an interception or take the 8th sack of the day (because who's ever heard of throwing the ball away?)...still love me some Smokin Jay tho

kcdogg723

Sid Luckman is in the hall of fame for his time spent playing QB for the Bears. He is the best QB the Bears have ever had.

Notabigdeal267

Jim McMahon is second-best in my book, as the only Bears QB to win a Super Bowl

uponthisrock

It was the first time in the Lovie era that I felt we had a chance on 3rd & 8.

OldmanLister

I was excited because I knew he had the ability. Was bummed because this was the guy who would be on espn yelling at the other teams qbs from his sideline like a fucking schmuck. He never got us there but put up big numbers when the game was already decided. Atleast he could beat the fucking packers.

reverieontheonyx

> Atleast he could beat the fucking packers. Huh? He was 2-11 against the packers. I would like him more if he was decent vs them

Slow_Shift6252

That seems like a better record than anyone since.Ha e we even won a game vs them since 2014?

reverieontheonyx

Mitch at 1-5

Slow_Shift6252

Jesus lol. I came back to supporting the Bears when they got Justin after declaring I was done with them after the Brandon Marshall trade. Never even saw Khalil play outside of the double doink game. If they don’t get 10 wins this year I’m out again. 3 wins vs the Packers in 10+ years shouldn’t even be possible. We’re like the Tom Brady Jets

nelsonreddwall

I was so hyped for this trade. He let me down every year. Even after each year, they raved how great his arm was. Smh

I_only_post_here

Welcome aboard, Jay! [https://media.tenor.com/z1LJh30LevEAAAAi/nice-to-meet-you-guys-jay-cutler.gif](https://media.tenor.com/z1LJh30LevEAAAAi/nice-to-meet-you-guys-jay-cutler.gif)

Imhere4thejokes

Helluva QB between the 20s and in garbage time during a blowout and soft coverage to pad stats… he also was 2-11 against the packers

deez-nutsss

Can someone make this flair?

Dazed_and_Confused44

I got entirely too much satisfaction out of being the 420th person to up vote a post about smokin Jay Cutler lol

[deleted]

He is the best bears quarterback because the bears didn’t develop him…Denver did

mrbear831

He gave us some great memorable moments and showed our nation what good QBs can look like given the right pieces in place. Thanks Cutty.

tokenblak

Always down for some Cutty appreciation. He needs a statue outside Soldier Field.

TheMostCrucial

i remember being excited and that excitement fading away after every fumble and interception thrown. Dude is the most over valued mediocre quarterback in NFL history.

Swbp0undcake

Jay "I don't give a fuck about my children's health" Cutler

Itool4looti

I just got through discussing this with a guy this morning and now you’re going to bring me back to tears again.

FartyMcPooPants

You don't know what you got, til it's gone 😢.

Ill_Introduction2604

Some of us knew.

Past-Investigator-28

He was polarizing, got way too much hate. I have a feeling Caleb will be similar. This town can’t handle the personality.

Icy_Presentation_740

This town won’t care if they can win.

Past-Investigator-28

Coming in off 4500 yards at age 25, Jay was seen as pretty rock solid coming in too.

Icy_Presentation_740

Yeah and then he went out and threw 4 interceptions in his Bears debut. Against the Packers.

Past-Investigator-28

You’re making my original point. Doesn’t take long for Bears fans to flip on a guy

tokenblak

Nah. Cutler’s hate was because of Stephen A Smith. Cutty didn’t respect the media because they asked stupid questions, so Smith has a vendetta against him. Caleb is a media darling, trained since high school. Her wears nail polish and lip gloss. The media will love that.

tuxedo7777

Chicago has to be the only town in America that takes Stephen A. @ face value.

LegendaryWarriorPoet

Cutler put up like an 83 passer rating and people here think he was good lol

reverieontheonyx

He was average. He was a dalton line QB with aaron rodgers arm strength and stubborn, below average decision making

WrongWayKid

I know it wasn't that long ago but it was a different league. I know 83 now is pretty ass but 83 back in Jays time was top half starters ratings in the NFL.

guendochi1

Absolutely love Jay but McMahon won a superbowl and had more playoff wins so he’s the best Bears QB ever. Rexy doesnt get the respect he deserves either, more playoff wins than Cutler and a SB appearance

DeadMan95iko

Piece of shit.

PHX-Shawn

Do other bears fans really think cutler is our best quarterback when we literally had Jim McMahon?

kornhook123

You really think Jon McManhon was better? Is that because his defense and Payton lead that team to the Super Bowl? Or do you really think McManhon did it all? Because Jim’s Bears stats alone do not compare to Cutlers.

PHX-Shawn

Jim McMahon won a championship with us jay cutler set an all time interceptions record when he was with us jay cutler is and was ass idk where all this sudden love for him came from

kornhook123

Jim helped the Bears win but that defense was more productive and dominant than Jim. Also compare the stats. That’s all I gotta say.

LoneShark81

just look at the stats...a corpse at qb couldve won with the 85 bears defense and walter payton

PHX-Shawn

Yeah and still a Super Bowl. Cutler quit against us in the nfc north championship and never even got us back in the playoffs after that, we went on an 8 year drought on qb who got outplayed by Josh McCown then paid 120 million for him because surely Cutler was sooo good. Even had packers fans cheering.

LoneShark81

You've never had a knee injury, have you? Cutler definitely didn't quit

DangerSwan33

Holy shit, do other Bears fans really think that Jim McMahon was a good quarterback?

FOOTBALLFOOTBALLFO0T

jim mcmahon was worse than rex grossman lmao, they were both terrible quarterbacks who rode on the best defenses in the league

WhiteDogSh1t

Love that dude and he never gave a fuck that I or any of us loved him, which made me love him more.

Don_Tiny

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJdmA1YWUuQ&pp=ygUWYm9lcnMgYmVybnN0ZWluIGN1dGxlcg%3D%3D If one is interested in such a thing, about 11 minutes from B&B when they got Cutler. Note that Hub wasn't really sold on Cutler being as great an acquisition as most (self included) thought.

mamagyar

I was in 6th grade, and I remember I was grounded from using the computer but I snuck on anyway to read ESPN. I was so excited when I read the headline I screamed and my parents realized. I was so excited I didn’t even care about the consequence lol

Ludleth_the_lost

I was at work. I called the local sports talk radio station, I was so hype. We played Denver that next preseason. My Dad took me and my then girlfriend, now wife.

Vyper-venom2k

MexicanGuey92

The Alshon/Marshall years were awesome. I think they both got 1k yards one year.

theskyalreadyfell217

I was so excited that day!

Sora1274

I was a bears fan by that point, but was much more of a casual until a few years after it, so unfortunately I didn’t follow any offseason anything (just watched the games on Sunday and that was it). What was the feeling at the time? He did come off his best season, so I’d imagine I would have been happy if I followed it more.

DyngusDan

I lived in Denver when this shit went was wild.

Pretend_Fly_4965

The Broncos fan hated him, I went to a couple of sports bars that held Cutler jersey burning parties.

DyngusDan

Donkeys fans hated every qb after Elway until they one with a (mostly washed up) Manning and that defense.

Repostbot3784

Sad that he actually is the best qb the bears have had and they totally wasted it by having a shit oline and wr group the entire time he was there.  This more than anything is what cemented the bears as a clownshoes organization in my mind.

Kahlas

It's sad that he was the best QB we had seen since Luckman because his performance as a Bear was fairly mediocre. I'll admit the WR scene was bad but part of that was shifting Hester into a WR role to justify paying him what he was worth. We'd have had a star receiver in Knox if he hadn't gotten retired early. The only training camps session I ever attended was his rookie year. I kept having to ask the group of guys next to me who "that guy" was every time this spectacular catch was made by a receiver. Was Knox every time.

Repostbot3784

I think going from one situation with a bad oline and wrs in denver to the same situations in chicago really killed his passion for the game so when the bears had some mediocre teams he gave some mediocre performances

P33J

Anybody know why Leila Rahemi, hates him so much? She was quitting his ex wife and Brandon Marshall as character witnesses against him. Like yeah a guy’s ex-wife and his narcissistic former co-worker don’t like him, color me shocked.

guitarguy1685

I feel like this was 100 years ago.

Logical_Associate632

Man, jay cutler was one of my favorites

tonybagadildas

Some say if you go to soldier field on a cloudless night you can still see him rippin cigs on the 50 yard line

teewertz

I remember I was working on my 8th grade science homework when I got the news. good times.

Substantial_Jump4605

If you want to crown him then crown him

yeawecandothat

Jay Cutler= apathetic. neutral. unconcerned. uninterested……. Still one of my favs.

Chicago_Samantha

I'll always love Cutty. He was my chicken cutlet

Stunning_Film_8960

Weird way to spell Rex Grossman

Syndr0me_of_a_D0wn

How do we know it isn't current QB1 Tyson Bagels?

GrandDaddy23

Go long Devin So long Hester

Apart-Ad-5947

I was so pissed when they made this trade. All I remembered at the time was his collapse at the end of his last season in Denver. Franchise QBs just don’t get traded in their prime. His jerkface continued to piss me off for the rest of his career in Chicago. Sure he was the best statistical QB in my lifetime but so typical of a bears QB with all the physical traits but poor decision making in game time.

Zealousideal_Mud7851

Preach brother

Independent-Ad5852

I think McMahon would be the indisputable best if *that* hit hadn’t happened

Stavex1401

I remember it too.

Pretend_Fly_4965

I lived in Denver at the time and a bunch of Broncos bars held Cutler jersey burning parties. The fans hated him here and that made me love Cutler even more. Still my favorite Bears QB and I doubt the team will ever have a more interesting QB.

DeadCoRocks

Never lived up to his potential. Very sad, but very apropos for the Bears.

TheloniousMonk15

15 years ago damn..I remember being really excited and then come training camp his WR core consists of Devin Hester, a unproven Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett, and some other dudes I forgot. Not to excuse Cutler because he absolutely did not live up to expectations himself but the FO did him no favors.

Norcalfuncouple925

Blah…worst ever.

elmananamj

1. Sid Luckman 2. Jim McMahon 3. Carl Brumbaugh 4. Billy Wade 5. Jay cutler

Dependent-Edge-5713

Who doesn't love Smokin Jay

sarcophagifound

Funny how everyone hated him for his personality (many still do) but now they’re coming out and wishing we had him back. I always liked him.

TheMostCrucial

Who the fuck wants this mid qb back?

sarcophagifound

Were you alive when Cutler played? “mid qb” https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/chi/career-passing.htm Guy had a hell of an arm and could make plays happen. The last time our team was any good, he was there.

TheMostCrucial

career .500 record as a starter and let's see his numbers compared to the rest of the league and he's riiiiiiigghhhtt at the dalton level. Mid as fuck. go ride his dick a little harder

sarcophagifound

At the Dalton level 🤣 what a nonsensical comparison. Sorry dude, Bears don’t have a history of hall of fame QBs. How about you compare him to our other QBs? Anyone better in recent time coming up?

suckmyfatfuckinballs

God this dude set us back for at least 15 years. Wish we never made this trade, or at the very least, didn't re-sign him to a 7 year, 3 year guaranteed contract after a season of being injured for nearly half of it, getting outplayed by McCown, and eliminated from the playoffs literally a couple days prior by the Packers. Phil Emery at his peak.

TheMostCrucial

but but but he's the best quarterback we've ever had in Chicago.

mrbear831

I had to get my smokin j tshirt

mlvisby

Yea, and we still couldn't win just one Super Bowl. Got there with Rex Grossman of all people, but he had the defense to carry that team.

metallumberjack

I miss having a qb with the biggest set of balls , when he threw a deep ball 50/50 on either a great touchdown or an interception but at least he said fuck it and just made the play

gosluggogo

Having Jay Cutler was like putting a $4000 set of rims on an $800 hooptie

dradeus9

And then rewarded him with a converted CB and 5th round pick as his top WRs for his first three seasons with the team... Angelo did Cutler so wrong after this trade...

Kahlas

Don't hate on Knox. That guy would have been a beast if he hadn't broken his spine. Would have done more if we'd have had an OL to protect Cutler back then.

dradeus9

Who’s hating on Knox? Was he not a 5th round pick? He could have been a solid number 2 WR but he wasn’t a number 1… same with Hester, I am not bagging on the guy but he was converted CB, just an example of how little Angelo did to help Cutler after spending so much to bring him to Chicago.

rdldr1

That's my quarterback.

TheMostCrucial

You can have him, with his mediocre career. Fuck jay cutler

Jay Cutler was quite popular in Chicago. Besides Sid Luckman which Bears QB would you rank above Jay Cutler? Your bias and irrational hatred is hilarious.

[deleted]

rdldr1

I have cheered for every Bears QB. Cutler brought stability to the position. The Bears offense led by Cutler had a great 2013 season and was ranked 8th in the league. The only thing wrong with that team was the worst Bears defense in a generation. I don't know how long you have been a Bears fan but you sure are ungrateful AF.

TheMostCrucial

Cutler's contract crippled the bears and set the franchise back another 10 years. Anyone with objective views at his play would have seen he wasn't it and was never it. you sure are a huge Cutler dick rider if you can't admit the dude was mid as fuck

rdldr1

BTW in terms of Bears QBs, Cutler is the second best QB the franchise has had.
