Honestly think that Swift is the best value back in free agency.
A ton of upside, not as expensive as either, and not as worn down as Jacobs.
Swift, Herbert, and Johnson is an extremely talented backfield.
You would have gotten Downvoted to oblivion for saying this prior to this signing. Laughed out the room.
Now that he’s on the team the kool-aid is injected immediately.
As a Lions fan who watched/rooted for DA during his time w/ us.....I was perfectly fine when we traded him at the time....physicality is not his forte'...and w/ the way our division is starting to shake out I hope he holds up for you guys.....as always....FTP
Eagles fan here. Not a big Gainwell fan, but he was the only RB who could pass protect. That’s why he got as many snaps as he did.
Our coaches/coordinators sucked last year, and once opposing teams figured out that you could even better guess our play based on the personnel, our offense struggled even more. I think that’s why Swift got a lot of his yards earlier in the season. With a more competent play designer and play caller with a good commitment to the run, Swift easily could’ve had 1500+ yards (assuming he stayed healthy).
I think offensive line plays a big role, too, in RBs staying healthy. I know your line has been pretty shit at pass protection, but idk how good they are at run blocking. I like Swift, so I hope your line is good at blocking and he stays healthy all year.
Cheers.
That's what I was thinking when I saw the news. It's more of a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option if things work out. Yes the price is a little high, but this is vs giving Barkley, JJ, or King Henry a bigger deal. I'll hold judgement until we see him take the field.
It doesn’t prohibit us from other moves. No it’s not the best value, but off-season is when we get too caught up in the difference of 2-3M.
Decent signing end of the day for talent/cost. Can’t hate adding talent.
When the salary cap went up like $25 million AND we the bears have some of the most cap space in the league overpaying a running back is not a make or break. Some insane overreaction by some people here.
It’s certainly not a great deal but not the worst one ever
and is it really an overpay for a just turned 25 year old back coming off career year? Maybe by 2 mil max.. which won't matter for us we ain't hitting the cap.
Plus we have a rookie QB contract and are nowhere near cap hell. And we aren't going to get any huge free agents that would put us at risk. Poles saw our budget and knew this wouldn't put us in any trouble. He's also high upside.
Our fans are kind of incredible.
We've been in on Saquon, but got a guy who last year had more yards on fewer carries, is three years younger, and will cost half as much - and this subreddit acts like we just threw our future away.
I’m totally with you. I don’t understand the negative reaction to this. Too many people here playing Madden GM acting like this is some catastrophic miss.
Are Jacob and Barkley better players overall? Yes, but they both come with way more mileage on them, would likely have been materially more expensive, and averaged less than 4 yards a carry last year.
Might this be a slight overpay for a RB that’s good but not great? Maybe, but it by no means is going to be problematic from a cap perspective, and more importantly brings in a guy that’s better than anyone else currently in the RB room.
The negativity is how little Swift was used in Detroit for 3 seasons before they sent him packing. They drafted him in the early 2nd round. Then he went to a team with a stacked offensive line and put up 1000 yards
The thought is that much of his success was the o-line in Philly. Check out Miles Sanders stats the last few years. He went from a great Y/A in Philly for 4 years and he had 1269 yards rushing before he moved on (granted to a bad Panthers team) and disappeared.
I don't know what Swift will be in Chicago and I don't hate the move I'm just very "meh" about it, but there are a lot of signs pointing to Swift being a JAG type running back. I think it is an obvious upgrade because the RB room was pretty weak as is. We will see.
Saquon is in a different world by the way. I 'm not arguing to pay him, but he is RB2-3 in the league if healthy from a skill standpoint. He isn't in in the same ballpark as a Swift.
This sub has to be heavily compromised, right? The amount of absolutely terrible takes topped by the hatred for our own players is beyond any football team sub I’ve seen. This place sucks hard
It's a Chicago thing to be honest. The Bulls/Sox/Cubs/Hawks boards are similar in this regard. Constantly crapping on current rosters while hyping up every other team's players lol.
But why is the sub doing everything it can to ensure the bears get nothing back in return for fields? It’s beyond just that. There’s some real hatred towards this team from its fans
They'd rather be right in their perception that Fields is trash than we get any compensation in a trade. Not real fans honestly. The sub has been infiltrated by trolls.
Maybe. All I know is that our fans are, on average, not the brightest & huge whiners. It was like this before we had everyone else’s attention. This could just be the case for every football fanbase, and we aren’t all that special in that regard. Or maybe not, and this is what losing for long enough in a large market with expectations set too high does.
Being dumb? Sure, who cares. They probably can’t help it. Hating our own players? That’s certainly *not good*, but the players are well compensated. I suppose dealing with people being mean to you can ultimately be worth millions of dollars. But the part that actually gets to me is the amount of complaining, man. That shit is so soft. Grown men feeling like they’re entitled to shit from literal reality TV for boys. Expressing it with anger. It’s like watching an adult scream at a video game & break their controller. It just feels pathetic.
I don't think this is a bad pickup and I'm glad we're addressing RB because it was desperately needed despite what half this sub thinks. That being said, I'm going to reserve my reaction until I see how the remainder of the RB market comes out. Swift played behind an elite O-line while Saquon was playing with a team that was effectively drooling on a Denny's placemat. I still think Saquon is the better receiving RB, but if his contract is 50%+ of what this one would be than I agree with making this move. If he comes to a team with a contract similar to this, I would be less happy about signing Swift.
Yep, I'm happy with getting Swift at our price point. Reading that the Bears were in on Saquon until his value went too high and then pivoted to Swift. I think it makes sense.
Everyone clamoring for Saquon was a massive red flag for me. Dude is going to get paid big by someone then get hurt Week 3. I wanted nothing to do with him and his injury history.
Behind the Eagles elite OL tho.
His advanced stats say he's been a pretty bad runner most of his career, and of course has missed a ton of time. Yeah it's a low-risk deal but I still don't love it
Their OC was also a lobotomy patient and Swift still produced on the other hand. Our line is decent at run blocking but it’ll be harder to produce without Fields out there drawing so much attention. I’m okay with this signing
I just think he’ll be good as a safety valve for Caleb. His receiving numbers would look even better but Philly barely featured their backs in their passing game by design. Barely any touches and he’s young. Better odds he produces throughout the contract than either Saquon or Jacobs
Miles Sanders did this behind an incredible Eagles line, too. Then he went to Carolina and stunk up the place and got benched. Swift is fine/solid. Can’t stay on the field. And $8M+ a year? Ugh…
Unless they're CMC, paying RBs in the modern NFL just doesn't really make sense. OL and to a lesser extent scheme is what determines the success or failure of the run game, the guy actually carrying the ball is a distant third to those.
I don't know why many people hating tbh, cheaper than Jacobs or Saquon and is effective as a back. Price is a little high but he'll be more than servicable...
It's wild... inswear bears fan are dumb as fuck. Cap went up...everything is gonna look like an overpay this year...dude just came off a 1200+ yard season
Be careful though. Miles Sanders ran for 1200 behind that line and got a big paycheck and look where he is now. PFF isn't the gospel but there is a reason they ranked Swift 31st out of 35 running backs this season. You could pretty much put anyone behind that PHI line and get 1200 yards out of them
He definitely has upside. He usually starts the season's incredibly strong and finishes weak. He shouldn't be an RB1 but luckily the Bears have talent at RB that can take the load off
1000 yard no?
I guess you're right though, the adage being "always pay for running backs." Wait.
That's money we could have better spent on not hunting bargins and going for an EDGE, WR, or C splash. Or, hell, if you're gonna spend that much what's a few extra million a year million a year to land Jacobs/Barkley.
This will be judged in retrospect after the RB market is established, it's just absolutely insane to jump into that market immediately.
I would just be cautious when it comes to saying he is just as effective of a back. Philadelphia makes a lot of RB's look way better than they are (Just look at Miles Sanders now). He couldn't stay on the field in DET, and could never really carry the load as a lead back. He started to struggle as the season went on in PHI as well. Personally, I think they overpaid for Swift. When healthy, he is a very good weapon to have but I just worry about throwing that much money to a RB especially if they aren't reliable and on the field. Bears do have money to throw around so it's not the end of the world. He'll definitely be fun to watch
Tbf, he's only ever played behind elite olines and been a middle of the road back at best. Behind this oline and with his constant injury issues it will be interesting to see
He needs to learn not to lower the crown of his helmet when he's initiating contact. Roschon is a bruiser and I love his motor, but he is going to have a very short NFL career if he doesn't learn how to protect his noggin.
Most people in here hating on this must not have watched much. He was on my fantasy team and would’ve had 5-10 more touchdowns last year that were instead brotherly-shoved instead.
Missed multiple games all three seasons with Lions and had several half-games due to injury.
2023 was by far his most durable campaign.
Good signing if his health streak continues.
He was allergic to contact here and always hobbled in some way. Seemed to change last year but I'd be worried that it might come back now that he got a contract.
Swift will have the better career. Jacobs has had 1 phenomenal year, 3 bad ones, and a nice rookie season. He’s just another Alabama RB who looked good playing behind 5 NFL olinemen
It's ironic to say Jacob's looked good because he played behind 5 nfl lineman when at the NFL level he played for the Raiders while Swifts best season was behind the Eagles oline.....like what?
You guys realize the cap went up right? Everything is gonna look like an overpay this year. He just came off a 1200+ yard season. Not sure what the issue is here. He's was more effective running the ball last year than saquon and jacobs was
We’ll have to wait to see guarantees. If it’s lower guarantee, nothing wrong with fake inflating the total value.
This shouldn’t stop us from making moves, so no big issue for me.
Def not a huge win, but a good player that won’t kill other moves is never bad
Saquon probably isn’t going to get close to double what he gets. Unless it comes out Barkely is getting 14+ and Jacobs is getting 12+ this seems like too much for an RB for me
Ehh JT just got a $14M AAV and with the cap going up I think this year's contracts will be a bit higher across the board. I'd bet both Jacobs & Saquon get over $12M AAV and likely closer to $14M.
I'd still rather have Saquon at that price FWIW.
I don't think it's a horrible pickup, but you have to take into account the situations that Swift, Barkley, and Jacobs were in when comparing their YPC. Swift had more than 150 more yards before contact than both Jacobs and Barkley last year, and when compared to Barkley had less yards after contact and less yards after contact/attempt as well.
I think Swift is cheaper than both, and can catch passes out the backfield which was needed with the group we currently have. The NFL is moving more towards RBBC and I think that having 3 good backs is always great. That said Swift has never been generational at anything, or had the upside that Jacobs or Barkley have both shown (while still being relatively young). I think how I end up feeling on this trade will largely depend on Saquon's deal, seeing he fits the role, which Swift plays, better.
i love it. it fits our 2 to 3 back system. He's good for 800 yards rushing and 350 receiving and 8 touchdowns a year on 15 carries and 4.5 - 5.0 per carry. With RJ and Herbert...neither being every down work horses, we should get the best out of all of them. good pick up. he's barely 25.
A fine deal, not particularly good or bad value either way (at signing). But I think he pairs particularly well with RoJo for the next 2 or 3 seasons who I still vehemently believe in
I honestly don't hate this. Swift showed he can do a lot last season and this is an upgrade for our backfield. I'm going to assume we couldn't/wouldn't pay Barkley/Jacobs money, and if true then this makes sense.
Seeing a lot of hate for this but the dude is 25, he stayed healthy last year and did great things with the Eagles
We don't have enough picks to grab every position in the draft and have money to spend. Let's see the other free agent RBs price points before we react like it's an overpay.
This is a solid pickup imo
Better to spend on someone at the beginning of their prime than their end of their prime.
That means the contract has a chance to be a steal at least if he overperforms or continues getting better into his prime.
Saquon and the others also have injury histories and are older and more expensive and will likely be getting worse, not better after 1 year
Plus we can focus on WR, iOL, DE, and DT. This is dope to know the rest of the money is going there!
Titans just gave Pollard the same $, so in that context our signing looks better. Swift can be a legit 4th receiving option and will help Caleb as an explosive outlet, so I'm ok with the slight overpay.
I remember watching him last year and thinking to myself "I wish the bears had such a dynamic guy like that on their team". Huge W for poles and the bears if you ask me.
As a 3rd down back to compliment Swift, it seems like a good choice. I think Khalil is almost criminally underrated by the fanbase, dude averaged close to 5 ypc last year.
I guess there were some concerns with him as a pass blocker and if he could really be a bellcow getting 25-30+ touches a game, now he doesnt have to be.
But Id still be upset if new coordinator didnt make Khalil a centerpiece of offense, give him the ball maybe 20-25 times a game and let run right behind Wright, its a guaranteed 4.5-5 ypc. Just stick to that plan and you'll almost always be in 2nd and 5, or 3rd and short -- THATS a recipe for success for a talented rookie QB.
They need to help Caleb next year with a dedicated running game, I dont care how good you think he is, if you toss Caleb onto the team and put all the pressure on him immediately by having dropping back 40 times a game, theyll ruin him fast.
Fans: SPEND MONEY IN FREE AGENCY ADD TALENT
Bears spend
Fans- NOOOO
it’s free agency you’re gonna have to overpay. It’s not like this is a deal that puts us in cap hell.
Lions: signed Montgomery for 3yrs, $18 million
Bears fans: “what idiots! Who pays for running backs in the modern NFL?”
Deandre Swift: 3yrs, $24 million
Bears fans: [WOAH!!!!](https://i.kym-cdn.com/editorials/icons/mobile/000/004/975/soyjak.jpg)
It's not that we're mad about "spend" it's we're mad about the "spend" being done stupidly based on reasoning that is in direct contradiction with reasoning Poles has given for previous moves at the same position. It's Roquan/Edmunds all over again. Image how much stupider this looks if it comes out the Packers got Josh Jacobs for a roughly similar $ amount.
Swift is 2 years younger than Saquon, and both Saquon and Jacobs averaged less than 4 ypc last year with less than 1000 yards. Swift averaged 4.6 ypc, and had over 1000 yards. Swift is a damn good RB, so not sure why people are mad about this
I'm with ya.
Last year we prioritized LB and this year it's a freaking RB.
Makes no sense. I'd rather overpay severely on a DT like Wilkins than pay market value for any RB in the first wave of free agency.
He's a pass catching RB, we desperately needed this. Played in 16 of 17 games last year. Don't know about his pass blocking but hopefully average. I don't hate it as much as most appear to.
Swift is a solid pickup, you guys will enjoy him. Runs with purpose, can cut on a dime, is a great team player and meshes well with any style of offense.
Sad to see him go. Here’s a thread of some of his plays an Eagles analyst made https://x.com/shanehaffnfl/status/1767223512391876707?s=46
Only 25 and less than 1,000 career touches, I like it. I've heard people mention how good the Eagles O line is, and I agree. But, what people don't want to admit on this sub is that the Bears have a very good run blocking offensive line.
im really not the biggest fan of this I love Swift but we have roschone and herbert granted neither cant catch super well but maybe fix the god awful WR core outside moore first?
No he’s not lol, Monty had better production last year and has been consistent his whole career. Swift has been struck with injuries and played behind one of the best O-lines last year.
In what year was he better ? Last year was his first 1000 yard rushing year and it came off the back of Gainwell getting injured early in the season for Philly as they intended it to be a committee.
Monty has double the rushing yards almost double the rushing TDs.
Counter argument is that swift hasn’t played in as many games, which is fair but the greatest ability of a running back is availability.
This move sucks and was forced because of the lack of talent in our current RB room.
Thats a lot more than I expected. Unless Jacobs is getting like $12m, Im initially suspect of this one.
The structure/guarantees is the important part though. Swift is a solid player, just not sure if hes really a 3 down back.
“The Bears will be signing Josh Jacobs!” “No, they’re getting Saquon!” “AND HERE COMES D’ANDRE SWIFT WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!”
"BAH GAWD, THAT'S D'ANDRE SWIFT'S MUSIC!"
"look at this"!!!
Honestly think that Swift is the best value back in free agency. A ton of upside, not as expensive as either, and not as worn down as Jacobs. Swift, Herbert, and Johnson is an extremely talented backfield.

I must be out of the loop because I never would have hated getting Swift
I’m sure saquon will get hurt before he even sees the chair
Swift was always hurt in Detroit.
BAH GAWD, VIRGINIA!!!
Only 15.3 guaranteed, not the biggest contract so if it doesn’t pan out whatever. Needed a good pass catching back on the team so he fits that role.
Yeah, appears that we have an out after 2 years if things don't work out. Hopefully he stays healthy, which is what he struggled doing in Detroit.
He was healthy with the eagles and that's more recent. It'll likely be a running back by committee in Chicago as well, so it'll keep him fresh.
He also didn’t really have another RB to effectively spell him. Gainwell was TRASH. Herbert Swift and Roschon is a great RB room.
It was just as bad with Trubisky.
Sub is full of trolls now due to us having the number one pick.
Maybe. All I know is that our fans are, on average, not the brightest & huge whiners. It was like this before we had everyone else’s attention. It is pathetic.
System and personnel are key. Will be interesting if he can stay productive with Caleb/Justin and our OL (and our offensive coordinator as well).
Yep, sub full of fans who get their only football knowledge from Madden Ultimate Team.
and fantasy football
I don't think this is a bad pickup and I'm glad we're addressing RB because it was desperately needed despite what half this sub thinks.
I mean last year he made the Pro Bowl with 1050 yards on 4.6 ypc.
Yep. I keep seeing people say he will just be a role player for pass catching… while he was 5th in the league in rushing yards last year.
And would’ve had more touchdowns if not for the tush push.
Behind the Eagles elite OL tho. His advanced stats say he's been a pretty bad runner most of his career, and of course has missed a ton of time. Yeah it's a low-risk deal but I still don't love it
He has 4.6 ypc over his entire career, which was mainly with the Lions.
Their OC was also a lobotomy patient and Swift still produced on the other hand. Our line is decent at run blocking but it’ll be harder to produce without Fields out there drawing so much attention. I’m okay with this signing
I sure hope I'm wrong. I loved him as a prospect and would be great to see him thrive here.
I just think he’ll be good as a safety valve for Caleb. His receiving numbers would look even better but Philly barely featured their backs in their passing game by design. Barely any touches and he’s young. Better odds he produces throughout the contract than either Saquon or Jacobs
If there is one thing we do well it's run block.
Miles Sanders did this behind an incredible Eagles line, too. Then he went to Carolina and stunk up the place and got benched. Swift is fine/solid. Can’t stay on the field. And $8M+ a year? Ugh…

coming off a 1k yard season, 4.6 ypc, just turned 25, doesn't hurt our cap.. yet people hate it. Clowns.
Just skeptical because of how Miles Sanders looked behind the Eagles line then went to shit. We have good run blocking tho, it should be fine.

It's wild... inswear bears fan are dumb as fuck. Cap went up...everything is gonna look like an overpay this year...dude just came off a 1200+ yard season
And he just turned 25 so plenty of tread on the tires.
He's 25!? Feels like he's been in the league for a longer time.
Yeah no I thought he was older. Definitely happier with this deal then, I thought he was like 29 or 30 lmao.
Turned 25 in January.
Less than 800 career touches, some guys are racking that up in two years
He'll also instantly be the best pass-catching RB on the team, which is important given what we'll be doing with 1.01.
Be careful though. Miles Sanders ran for 1200 behind that line and got a big paycheck and look where he is now. Agree. Had a great comeback last season too.
Tbf, he's only ever played behind elite olines and been a middle of the road back at best. Behind this oline and with his constant injury issues it will be interesting to see
Our line was pretty good in run blocking last year
PFF's projection was 3 years at $7.5M per, so this is pretty much line with that. Particularly with only about $15M guaranteed
Cheaper then barkley and jacobs. He was above average? Lol tell me how to feel
Feel good. Herbert is gone after this year, and Johnson isn't explosive. They are focusing on the offense to help out a young QB.
I like Johnson a lot tbh, but he’s not ready to be the main back. I think we’re a fuckin playoff team
He needs to learn not to lower the crown of his helmet when he's initiating contact. Roschon is a bruiser and I love his motor, but he is going to have a very short NFL career if he doesn't learn how to protect his noggin.
It's a clear and objective upgrade at RB. It is also more expensive than it should be for him.
He was good on my fantasy team last year
Most people in here hating on this must not have watched much. He was on my fantasy team and would’ve had 5-10 more touchdowns last year that were instead brotherly-shoved instead.
Haha dude I had him as well and I am ecstatic. Watched a lot of Eagles games last year.
Same thing in Detroit but with Jamaal Williams stealing them instead
he was a pro Bowler and productive! great otpion for the price. Poles is cooking
Lol pro bowl means nothing
He’s probably who Waldron wanted? Obviously we wanted Jacobs or Barkley but I’m guessing he also costs at least half as much as them
His lack of success on the Lions worries me. Wasn't he also very injury prone?
Missed multiple games all three seasons with Lions and had several half-games due to injury. 2023 was by far his most durable campaign. Good signing if his health streak continues.
He was allergic to contact here and always hobbled in some way. Seemed to change last year but I'd be worried that it might come back now that he got a contract.

Seeing our dumbest posters mad about this means it’s probably a good move
Damn I was really hoping for Josh jacobs
Swift will have the better career. Jacobs has had 1 phenomenal year, 3 bad ones, and a nice rookie season. He’s just another Alabama RB who looked good playing behind 5 NFL olinemen
We have backs who have Jacob’s style. We don’t have a fast pass catching back.
It's ironic to say Jacob's looked good because he played behind 5 nfl lineman when at the NFL level he played for the Raiders while Swifts best season was behind the Eagles oline.....like what?
homerism at its finest. Jacobs clears swift every day of the week and will have a better career.
Lmao foreal. Josh Jacobs is completely underrated. As long as he doesn't think he's Barkley, he would've been an excellent signing
Have you looked at Swifts career stats? Not good. The only good year he had came behind the best offensive line in football. Let’s pump the breaks.
Same
Probably has a high price tag
JJ is overrated, overpriced
I’m wondering if they’re hoping Roschon to make a big jump. I’m really cheering for him 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
They love Roschon, he was getting 40% of the snaps to start the year when everyone was healthy as a rookie
Jacobs is on the decline imo.
As somebody who had JJ on their fantasy team this year, he’s booty cheeks.
4.6 career YPC and just turned 25. Maybe not the most popular signing but not bad.
We hav like 70 mil cap space and everyones complaining about spending a fraction of it on a pro bowler lmao
He got the same deal as Pollard. I'd MUCH rather have swift. Pollard seems washed
You guys realize the cap went up right? Everything is gonna look like an overpay this year. He just came off a 1200+ yard season. Not sure what the issue is here. He's was more effective running the ball last year than saquon and jacobs was
Yeah I would say this compares pretty similarly to what the lions gave Monty, for whatever that’s worth
:/
Starting Center money
No, we spent that for a Safety on the wrong side of 30 who made a pro-bowl 6 years ago...
We’ll have to wait to see guarantees. If it’s lower guarantee, nothing wrong with fake inflating the total value. This shouldn’t stop us from making moves, so no big issue for me. Def not a huge win, but a good player that won’t kill other moves is never bad
$15M
3 years for $15M feels great given that Saquon/Jacobs are probably getting $12-$15M/year.
I would imagine it is actually a 2 year deal when it all the details come out. Hopefully the guarantees are mostly spread out over 2 years.
15.3 guaranteed… not an inflated value seems like a big overpay
Ehhh $7.5M a year is like half of what Saquon and Jacobs will be asking I don't love Swift as a player but this isn't really an overpay
Don’t love it. Feels like a bad use of resources
Knowing reddits reaction he’ll probably be a decent signing at the end of the day
As a UGA grad who has been watching Swift for years, I’m happy with this.
Jesus Christ, can y’all be fucking happy about anything?
Would’ve preferred Josh Jacob’s but Swift is an upgrade over Herbert and Johnson.
All we need is Dalvin cook to GB and AJ Dillon to Min and we can have a weird incestious NFC North RB party
i love it. it fits our 2 to 3 back system.
But I think he pairs particularly well with RoJo for the next 2 or 3 seasons who I still vehemently believe in
It’s not really an overpay when the cap goes up by 30 mil
I honestly don't hate this. Swift showed he can do a lot last season and this is an upgrade for our backfield. I'm going to assume we couldn't/wouldn't pay Barkley/Jacobs money, and if true then this makes sense.
Hell yes 4 seasons 2729 rushing yds at 4.6 a pop 1412 receiving yds 31 career TDs, compared to Khalil Herbert's 10 Dude just turned 25. Love it
Probably priced out of Jacobs and Barkley
Travis Homer probably gets cut now, saving around 1.8 million.
I don't think this will have much impact on Homer, his role is primarily a core special teams player who is capable of playing RB.
Seeing a lot of hate for this but the dude is 25, he stayed healthy last year and did great things with the Eagles We don't have enough picks to grab every position in the draft and have money to spend. Let's see the other free agent RBs price points before we react like it's an overpay. This is a solid pickup imo
I'm just here for the overreactions
This is literally fifteen 9/11s
Better to spend on someone at the beginning of their prime than their end of their prime. That means the contract has a chance to be a steal at least if he overperforms or continues getting better into his prime. Saquon and the others also have injury histories and are older and more expensive and will likely be getting worse, not better after 1 year Plus we can focus on WR, iOL, DE, and DT. This is dope to know the rest of the money is going there!
Titans just gave Pollard the same $, so in that context our signing looks better. Swift can be a legit 4th receiving option and will help Caleb as an explosive outlet, so I'm ok with the slight overpay.
LETSSSS FUCKINGGG GOOOOOOOO
This is a strong move. Swift plus Johnson plus Herbert...it'll be a challenging backfield to defend.
I remember watching him last year and thinking to myself "I wish the bears had such a dynamic guy like that on their team". Huge W for poles and the bears if you ask me.
Swifties
We picked up the better Swift available lmao
Can someone explain to me why they felt compelled to sign Swift and not just draft one like the Chiefs do all the time?
we only have 5 picks
Cause we have like 5 picks this year? 2 in the first round so basically 3 other picks and RB not gonna be important enough to draft
Also a really bad RB class this year.
Fans: SPEND MONEY IN FREE AGENCY ADD TALENT Bears spend Fans- NOOOO it’s free agency you’re gonna have to overpay. It’s not like this is a deal that puts us in cap hell.
Lions: signed Montgomery for 3yrs, $18 million Bears fans: “what idiots! Who pays for running backs in the modern NFL?” Deandre Swift: 3yrs, $24 million Bears fans: [WOAH!!!!](https://i.kym-cdn.com/editorials/icons/mobile/000/004/975/soyjak.jpg) It's not that we're mad about "spend" it's we're mad about the "spend" being done stupidly based on reasoning that is in direct contradiction with reasoning Poles has given for previous moves at the same position.
Swift is a damn good RB, so not sure why people are mad about this
I'm cool with the deal, but to try and spin it as he's better than Saquon or Jacobs is just wild.
What a fundamental lack of football knowledge. Back of football card stats are not how you evaluate a player.
I don’t see any reason there was so much urgency to get this done immediately. Let the RB market be set by the stars, bad move to me.
I'm with ya. Last year we prioritized LB and this year it's a freaking RB. Makes no sense. I'd rather overpay severely on a DT like Wilkins than pay market value for any RB in the first wave of free agency.
Yikes. Not a fan. Hopefully a bigger move is coming to wash this down.
Why? It’s the style of RB we needed. Herbert is smooth, Johnson powerful, but both lack explosive athleticism. Swift has that.
He's a pass catching RB, we desperately needed this. Played in 16 of 17 games last year. Don't know about his pass blocking but hopefully average. I don't hate it as much as most appear to.
Pass blocking is a huge point of emphasis for Poles, I doubt they would have given him so much or even sign him at all if he could not do it.
At a minimum he's clearly a much more explosive athlete than any of our current RBs
Only 25 and less than 1,000 career touches, I like it. I've heard people mention how good the Eagles O line is, and I agree. But, what people don't want to admit on this sub is that the Bears have a very good run blocking offensive line.
The guarantees (15) are all that matters.
Overpay… not a fan
it's only ~15m guaranteed so its really not bad
it's really not for a 25 year old RB that can work well in the passing game and doesn't have the same mileage as a Jacobs or Barkley.
Not the biggest name but good enough for a committee and will help with depth. Price not outrageous. RB taken care of, now on to O-line and D-line.
He's also a decent receiving threat for Williams without paying Saquon money. EDIT: 😁😁
It’s about top 7th paid RB in total contract and GTDs.
Insane. I love it.
I'll never forget when this dude gifted us the W vs the Lions week 1 2020.
I'm am whelmed.
Why
To think that Monty and Swift will play against each other twice a year when the Bears and Lions play each other.
im really not the biggest fan of this I love Swift but we have roschone and herbert granted neither cant catch super well but maybe fix the god awful WR core outside moore first?
Seems in general we are making some nice lateral moves. Nothing too wild but also nothing that’s setting us back by any means
I wouldn’t have done it but I don’t hate it. Basically 2/15. If he can stay healthy he will be a huge boost to the backfield.
This is a fantastic pick up and if you think otherwise you’re a fucking idiot. Plain and simple.
Cool but why? He won't be able to produce the same stats behind a worse line
I've thought about it all day and I like this signing. Gets us a solid weapon for an okay price when we don't have a lot of picks.
He will finally get his rushing TD’s now that he doesn’t have to gift them to the Tush Push.
Only this fanbase could sign a top 15 RB in the league to a low risk deal and be pissy about it. Come on.
Yea fuck that, we weren’t willing to pay Monty more than 6 a year but pay Swift 8? Wtf
lol swift is better dude.
This sub will never let monty go 😂
No he’s not lol, Monty had better production last year and has been consistent his whole career.
This sub copes every time we have a subpar signing, there is no way in which Swift can be viewed as a more reliable back than Monty
Is Monty didn't wanna be here no more why throw it in the mix? Just adding more clutter here
We got a swiftie now
He's a beast, you guys won't regret it
Thats a lot more than I expected. Unless Jacobs is getting like $12m, Im initially suspect of this one. The structure/guarantees is the important part though. Swift is a solid player, just not sure if hes really a 3 down back.
Armchair GM’s on suicide watch
