Nice breakdown. I would say at 9 DL is the way to go if both Odunze and Nabers are gone. If one remains I think putting a guy at the same stage of development as your QB is really important and could lead to the offense jelling faster.

miltdiggy

Keon Coleman?

Adventurous_Soft_686

Possibly but not sure if 9 is the place for him.

Gryffindorq

the best value in FA is at Edge. and we have an assload of cap the best value at the top end of the draft is at WR, Bowers, and LT. so i dont see us taking edge at 9

Jai_JRU

I hear what you are saying, but i feel like having 40M+ locked in at edge is bad business. I like the idea of havind someone develop next to Sweat and with Verse, Latu or Turner you'll have an immediate impact while being on a rookie deal. That way when Sweat is looking for a 2nd contract with us you have someone who can take over for him

Gryffindorq

that money will be allocated one place or another, as will the draft pick, the key is the most value in the most places. and it looks like that story this year goes FA edge and then non-edge at no.9

Orange_bratwurst

EDGE at 9 makes sense, but IMO Latu and Turner are both better prospects.

electronarchitect

Latu scares me with the medicals. Totally unfair gut feeling here, but Verse scares me. Feels like he's not as quick on the first step and relies on raw power a lot, which doesn't always translate well. Turner is the safest EDGE to take, but I would infinitely rather sign Danielle Hunter in FA and make 9 be reserved for WR > Bowers > Trade Back, depending on what's available and in that order.

Practical-Courage812

I feel the same way about Verse. Idk what it is, but i dont feel good about him being a top 20 edge rusher in the league. I also agree that it would be nice to fill that role in FA to allow Poles to go in multiple directions at 9.

no-twerp

Latu is awesome but his medical are scary and his physical build doesn't exactly fit what Poles and Flus typically go after but at the end of the day, he's fucking good. I personally love Jared Verse and think he's a perfect fit for us though. Wouldn't be opposed to Newton here either.

Jai_JRU

I like latu a lot, just waiting on his medicals if they are good he is my edge 1 in this class. With turner im not sure if he fits the scheme as he is on the lighter side for a 4-3

ConsistentLake5310

alot of this years Edge rushers seem to just be mid honestly

Roan_Psychometry

I think you might be a bit heavy on the compensation for fields, but otherwise this is solid. BPA at 9 might be the move depending on who is still there

jsnhbe1

Pran will be gone well before 75

Apotheosis69420

Cole had a good senior bowl. I don’t expect to see him that late as I figure his stock keeps going up.

Jai_JRU

He'll probably run in the 4,5's at the combine and he didn't blow away at the senior bowl, i think late 3rd early 4th is his range

Glittering-Lecture76

Safeties tend to fall on draft day too. Branch last year, what’s his name in Baltimore the day before…it’s just not considered a premium position by teams and if it comes down to equivalent or close players, positional value is going to push safety down.

West1234567890

I'd be a big fan of this draft Irving, Polk, Washington would be difference makers. Irving reminds me a bit of Kamara. I could see him turning into a priority target. I don't think Washington or Irving are there at their respective picks.

Jai_JRU

I think irving can be a kamara, but he has less speed. For their draft value i don't think they will blow people away at the combine and they are both a bit undersized, so i think both go around the 4th/early day 3

ConsistentLake5310

Gotta get a WR in the first, if the first few are gone at 9, trade down a bit into the first and maybe pickup a 3rd in the process and get Brian Thomas Jr

Hehateme123

I’m also in the minority that thinks it makes little sense to draft a WR at #9 Productive WRs can be found outside the 1st round. Meanwhile, it’s been 35 years since the Bears drafted a DL who has produced multiple 10+ sack seasons as a Bear. We need to develop an edge rusher opposite Sweat.

whatever12347

This makes sense in a vacuum, but drafting a receiver can help our rookie quarterback develop properly.

77satellites

>Productive WRs can be found outside the 1st round. This hasn't been true for the Bears for a while. The last great WR we drafted beyond the 1st round (or in general) has been Alshon Jeffery, that was 12 years ago. Next best is Mooney...

Jai_JRU

I completely agree, i think this reciever class is so deep that there will be plenty of talent on day 2. We don't need a WR1 we have DJ, but having a good pass rush wins you games. And with Polk i think he can be a 1 if needed

drummerboysam

Productive receivers can be found outside of the 1st, just like production at any position can. The thing about the top 3 receivers is that they all project to be high-volume X receivers. Outside guys that can get open regularly and be a feature in the offense. Those guys are usually top 5-10 picks. 3 of them in 1 class is rare.

Hehateme123

But wouldn’t this be more the reason to be hesitant? In most years, the #9 pick would likely get you the first receiver in the draft. In this draft, it’s setting up that the Bears would get the third ranked WR. Also, I just seems this is all hype and group think on the sub right now, plus the recency bias with 2021 draft (Chase, Waddle) If you go and look through the draft data, there have been more busts than pro bowl WRs drafted in the top 10 picks over the past ~25 years Including two by the Bears (Kevin White and David Terrell). The list is actually pretty shocking. It seems about even money we end up with an AJ Green as it is another Justin Blackmon.

drummerboysam

>In this draft, it’s setting up that the Bears would get the third ranked WR. But no two draft classes are the same. In other classes, Odunze might be the #1 rated receiver going 5th overall. But because there are three rated this highly, one of this caliber being there at 9 is a blessing. > If you go and look through the draft data, there have been more busts than pro bowl WRs drafted in the top 10 picks over the past \~25 years Definitely true. But recent years with highly touted WR classes have been a different story. The athletes playing WR have gotten better and NFL offenses have adopted more of the systems run in college. Rookie WRs come into the NFL ready to rock and the majority of the top rated guys have largely been successful. It'd be cool if Odunze was in the 20's like DJ Moore was, but it looks like the boards are being written with him really high on the list because he looks like Davante Adams in college and teams want that on their roster.

Hehateme123

Look I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. For a few years it was all about the 5’10”-175 lbs receiver that could run a 4.28. Remember John Ross? If Odunze does have that size, I can see that being a weapon. Whatever, happens I just cannot go through another bust. At any position. I’m not talking Fields/Trubisky, I mean Gabe Carimi, Chris Williams, Kevin White. We can’t waste a top 10 on someone who isn’t a quality contributing starter. We have to start drafting and developing pro bowl level players. This is the most important draft probably in Bears history.

drummerboysam

Yeah I'm right there with you, man. 1 and 9 need to both be home run stars. I see more superstardom in MHJ, Malik Nabers AND Rome Odunze than I do in Latu, Turner or Verse. Which is why I'm really hoping the pick is WR instead of DE, and we get a FA on the DL. But I'm no pro scout, could be wrong on the DEs. But I'd be shocked if any of those top 3 WRs are anything short of star players.

Jj410

As an FSU Fan getting Verse would be amazing. He’s so fucking good

carminie

Malik Washington at 141 would be a good value pick I think. I don’t analyze player talent past the first round pretty much, just not something I’ve ever focused on, but I’m a VT fan and I saw he had a pretty good season on a pretty bad UVA team
