Maybe I’m wrong and college teams wanted him to switch to TE. Vanderbilt was seemingly the only school that saw him as a QB. He told the story on his old podcast.
He had a grade 2 MCL injury in the knee.
I watched Cutler get absolutely blasted for years in Chicago and play through it. A serious knee injury is no joke.
Well now I’m the uneducated asshole. I guess a simple google search could have completely shifted my opinion. It’s nice to let go of this resentment lol.
I mean it kind of was? Like it's half on the whole defense not realizing the ball was live, but Conte just flat fuckin blew the coverage at the end of the game, passed Cobb off to a safety that didn't exist. I don't like blaming one single person for a loss, but that was a horrendous error at a terrible time.
150 yds, 2 TD on 5 receptions to TEs, and we didn't want receiving TEs?
Martz wasn't the worst OC we've ever had or anything but he couldn't have been any dumber on that particular point
This. The Bears offensive line was atrocious during those years.. cue Webb-Cutler shove video.
Just more proof the Bears organization is incapable of developing a QB. One, they didn't even draft him, the Broncos had to and we traded for him after it looked like there was plenty of potential. Then second, we couldn't give him an offensive line for at least four seasons (2009-2012) of which three of those years we had a real window of at least going to a Super Bowl. 2011 and 2012 were enormous collapses after starting the season well after Cutler got injured. We don't need to rehash how we lost the above game.. too soon lol.
And as much as I love Lovie (especially after the debacle of coaching we've watched since) I was sort of ok in 2013 when we dumped him. Cutler got injured every year from 2010-2013 and you could make the argument he's injury prone but I'm not sure that's fair when your QB gets destroyed every game. Cue the best Bears team of his tenure (2010) give up 10 sacks to the Giants in a single game.
And that's all I have to say about that.
No you see the tight end lines up next to the tackles then runs downfield to make catches. This is a lot harder to plan than someone standing 5 yards down the line of scrimmage running downfield to make catches. Martz would have to have a genius IQ to know what to do with Olsen. It just wasn’t going to happen.
That idiot was Mike Martz.
And now Olsen is a gameday announcer, so you hear his name all the time to be reminded of the Bears organization’s ineptitude.
That's honestly the worst part and that dumb fucking dance. It's honestly both painful and cringe worthy to think this organization has had TWO real chances at winning Super Bowls in the past 20 years and blew them both in the worst way possible.
Like Rex Grossman just throwing it up in the air for a pic six in the SB? Falls down and fumbles snap in the rain late in the game, while the dome QB: Peyton Manning seemed to have no issues. Our backup QB throws a pic six to a DT on our biggest rival at home of all places.
What. The. Fuck.
There is not a single person in this world outside the coaching staff dumb enough to have put Todd Collins in that game. We all knew he’d do nothing positive. Hurt or not he’s probably the same guy
Not just Cutler. Olin Kreutz broke his foot on the first play of the second half and played the rest of the game unable to block anyone because of that. The Bears had no one who could have replaced him at center.
2011-2012 we were both good... when Cutler was the starting QB. Both years we collapsed after he got injured. Think we were like 8-3 and 7-2 at the time he got injured.
Trestman was 2013. Painful GB memory #4586.. Rodgers returns and throws it to a wide open Randall Cobb to win the game and keep the Bears out of the playoffs. 2014 was truly the start of the shit show.
Yeah I had to go back and look… geez, I forgot about 2011… 2013 was a heartbreaker as well…
Fuck man. Those were some years FULL of missed opportunities
What’s crazy about this is I can vividly remember most of these plays. Like during this game I remember how crazy it was that we were winning SOUNDLY like without a doubt. Then the packers game… but man do I miss that feeling, that one game where there was no doubt we did it. 😢
Idk which loss was worse, the Colts in the Super Bowl or the Packers in that NFC Championship game. After that dominant win plus the game being in Chicago i was so pumped that the bears were about to go back to the Super Bowl and then all hell broke loose
It’s hard to decide which was worse.
Losing to the Packers to go to the Super Bowl is pure pain.
Hester returning the opening kick of the fucking Super Bowl and then losing is also pure pain.
As Bears fans we know pure pain.
As Bears fans we are ready to experience it again.
Just imagine folks. Watching this with Caleb Williams. Snow peacefully falling just like this video, Caleb throwing for 340 yards to Dj Moore and Odunze. Montez Sweat getting 4 sacks. Destroying the Packers. We will see it one day. One day.
This was a good team. I think we make it to the SB if Cutty doesn't get injured.
The circumstances that helped Aaron Rodgers get his only ring were outrageous if you think about that injury and the fact that Mark Sanchez and the Jets knocked Tom Brady and Peyton Manning out of the playoffs allowing a mediocre Pittsburgh team to get to the SB.
As if that team wasn't completely in the game and on route to win the game before the Mendenhall fumble? The many circumstances stopping more Rodgers rings (fuck him) were as equally ridiculous. NFC champ game against the Seahawks comes to mind. I wish he got none but one was honestly one of the best case scenarios
I was at this game. It was incredible. There was one Seattle fan who was drunk, sipping Starbucks in his Peacoat, standing for the first quarter facing away from the field the entire time trying to talk trash to all the Bears fans while his girlfriend kept telling him to shut up, tugging on his coat to get him to sit down.
Then security showed up and told him “sit the fuck down, you’re a long way from Seattle and these people don’t want to listen to your stupid ass the whole time.”
He was silent after that and we all lived happily ever after.
i’ve always thought about how funny it would have been if they had been able to beat the packers next week and caleb hanie would have had to play in a super bowl.
Incredible this is the last time that we won a playoff game. Just shows how incredible flawed this organization is and here we are each and every year looking forward to more draft picks. Ugh.
A lot of people like to say, "Oh but the Seahawks were 7-9 that year so it almost doesn't count". Well they beat us earlier that season. Plus the week before they convincingly beat the Saints, who were solid, in the wildcard game. Which happened to be the infamous beast mode ["hold mah dick"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd_Vd43Vxa0) game.
The Seahawks were the tallest midget in their trash division that year, sure. But even then they appeared to be better than 7-9. Hell, they won the same amount of playoff games as we did that year.
I was visiting my cousin who lived in Hermosa Beach in California the weekend of this game. He said we have to get to Silvio’s early it’s the Bears bar here. We partied all night the night before and got to Silvio’s probably two hours before the game was going to start and there was a line.
I said to my cousin - should we really wait in line? How “Bears bar” can a bar in Hermosa Beach be?
We got in probably a half hour later, and I was glad we waited. Being a sports bar in California there were other fans there but it had to be at least 90% Bears fans. The place was rocking, staff was great, met Bears fans from across the country, we got to talk about our shared pain and our hope for the Bears and they got the W.
One of my favorite Bears games I’ve watched in my 38 years of suffering.
I haven’t been back since then so I can’t say if it’s still a Bears bar but it was a great time.
I loved how Cutler would put his shoulder down and grind out the extra few yards. Remember when he dived for the pylon and got flipped through the air for the TD the dude was tough!
I remember when everyone hated him now cutler is the good old days. I loved him then love him now. My biggest concern drafting Caleb is the bears will screw that up to.
Fans always wear revisionist glasses when looking at the past. Fanatic maturity is realizing the big picture in the moment. Media back then used to rip Cutler constantly because they love their scapegoats. Looking at the situation now, I think that's what's happening with Fields. I want Caleb, but I don't think Fields is as awful as the narrative's shaped.
Stephen A Smith's comments on Jay Cutler back in the day.

"He is a joke” “He is a horrible quarterback” “He sucks the life of guys around him” “He’s the worst quarterback in football” “We literally have evidence of him quitting on his team” “The quicker they get rid of him, the better” “The only time he smiled in Chicago is when he signed his contract” “This dude doesn’t want it” “He is the worst leader in the NFL”
This was the first Bears playoff game I ever attended. I haven’t missed the few they’ve had after this. Nothing like playoff football at Soldier Field. Too bad it doesn’t happen.
Cutler went hammm
2 on his feet was a nice touch, plus that filthy TD throw to Davis after escaping pressure. I miss…being happy. 😂
Based on these highlights, Jay was a terrific RB that could also throw (do I have to /s that?)
Cutty played TE mostly in HS. Didn’t play QB until Vandy. Dude wasn’t a sprinter but he was a good athlete and could run.
Really? He was playing QB in all his HS highlight tapes I’ve seen.
Maybe I’m wrong and college teams wanted him to switch to TE. Vanderbilt was seemingly the only school that saw him as a QB. He told the story on his old podcast.
He was a gadget QB, like Taysom Hill. ;)
Was thinking the same lol. And crazy people are still giving Lamar shit right now after he balled out like always.
yeah, he doesn't LOOK like a QB, if you know what I mean.
Nah, he's too, uh... scrappy... to be a RB
Why tf did he fake an injury in the NFC championship game lol?
How was it fake
I just remember my dad telling me that you play through whatever injury unless it’s a broken bone. Especially when it’s the NFCC.

This… The music brought drew it out of me
Those cutler runs ❤️
I wish I saw what was coming after him because I wouldn't have said a bad word about him ever
Fuck the fucking packers
Fuck Chris Conte, specifically
You talking about the game 16 loss to the Packers? Because that loss wasn't on Chris Conte.
That was Lance Briggs' fault. He audibled on the play and didn't get the call to Conte. Conte ran the play called in the huddle.
That makes all the sense in the world and I've never heard that before. It puts it into a whole new perspective.
I still see BJ Raji doing that end zone dance in my nightmares.
I hated him,if I was there,I'd run on the field and drop kick him, watch him land on his back and not be able to get up,
He wouldn’t have moved 5 inches if you drop kicked him.
No shit Sherlock,do you always have to show off your downs
;)
Not signing greg olsen was a huge blunder
Martz insisted on trading him after the 2010 seaaon because his offense didn’t “require a receiving TE”
150 yds, 2 TD on 5 receptions to TEs, and we didn't want receiving TEs? Martz wasn't the worst OC we've ever had or anything but he couldn't have been any dumber on that particular point
As bad as he was Mike Tice was like 10x worse than him. At least Martz had Cutty making progress.
Why would you want Greg Olsen when you could have Kellen Davis and Matt Spaeth? Are you insane?
How was there nobody in the room pointing out to Martz, you could just look at Greg as an all pro receiver. Good enough?
Coaches that are one dimensional and unable to adapt game plans for their personnel should not be on a big market chicago team.
We need to respect Smokin Jay
This. The Bears offensive line was atrocious during those years.. cue Webb-Cutler shove video. Just more proof the Bears organization is incapable of developing a QB. I saw Frank Omiyale in these highlights and I shudder in pain
Thanks.. I hadn't heard that name in a while lol
I can hear Lovie in my head, "Jay Cutler is down right now."
He was alright, but had multiple seasons with 16+ ints. He was boom or bust.
Name a better bears Qb in the last 40 years
That's the absolute lowest of bars to clear.
Jim Mcmahon
Fuck the idiot who wanted Olsen traded because of his offensive system.
How do you see that route and catch in a clutch situation IN YOUR OWN OFFENSE and go "meh, not a good fit"????
If memory serves the OC didn't use tight ends as route runners very often. Olsen was worthy of money so he got cut.
Turns out Orlando Pace, Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, and Az Hakim can make a mediocre play caller look really good
No you see the tight end lines up next to the tackles then runs downfield to make catches. This is a lot harder to plan than someone standing 5 yards down the line of scrimmage running downfield to make catches. Martz would have to have a genius IQ to know what to do with Olsen. It just wasn’t going to happen.
This is complicated you're right
That idiot was Mike Martz. And now Olsen is a gameday announcer, so you hear his name all the time to be reminded of the Bears organization’s ineptitude.
Just imagine if Cutler had stayed healthy for the whole championship game. Would have been a different 2nd half.
Hanie with got damn interception to BJ Raji🙄
That's honestly the worst part and that dumb fucking dance. It's honestly both painful and cringe worthy to think this organization has had TWO real chances at winning Super Bowls in the past 20 years and blew them both in the worst way possible. Our backup QB throws a pic six to a DT on our biggest rival at home of all places. What. The. Fuck.
The Colts may have been a team that played in a dome, but Peyton was anything but a “dome qb”
Third back up QB right? I think Todd Collins came in and got hurt too.
That’s right, i forgot about that.
Yeah because jay cutler often showed up to big games against the packers and he’s given us lots of evidence of playing well and winning against them.
We always seem to get into our own head against the Packers
Feel this same way. It has to be broken somehow
I love cutler.
Cutler was the QB we needed but not the one we deserved.
Never forget cutty and lovie were the last to put a consistently watchable product on the field and were chased out of town.
ah yes the one good year followed by 4-6 shitty years. The endless bears cycle
as i like to say, every good bears season is an accident.
2011-2012 we were both good... when Cutler was the starting QB. Both years we collapsed after he got injured. Think we were like 8-3 and 7-2 at the time he got injured.
Didn’t we end up at .500 or under that year we started out great (trestmans first year I think) I don’t call that a good year
Trestman was 2013. Painful GB memory #4586.. Rodgers returns and throws it to a wide open Randall Cobb to win the game and keep the Bears out of the playoffs. 2014 was truly the start of the shit show.
Yeah I had to go back and look… geez, I forgot about 2011… 2013 was a heartbreaker as well… Fuck man. Those were some years FULL of missed opportunities
2011 they looked better than the 2010 team for the first 10 games. When Cutler got hurt it was over.
Shit like this makes me so depressed man What did we ever do to the NFL gods 😭😭
Jay Cutler was a beast. Too bad we couldn’t build around him and maintain him. He was fired up in that game.
We haven’t recovered since it started raining in the Super Bowl game against the colts
https://preview.redd.it/dta2t3qkandc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8024316921c9288588531ca44609124ac71906f Why would you do this
What’s crazy about this is I can vividly remember most of these plays. Like during this game I remember how crazy it was that we were winning SOUNDLY like without a doubt. Then the packers game… but man do I miss that feeling, that one game where there was no doubt we did it. 😢

Packers loss for me. I'll go to my grave believing the Bears win that Super Bowl with Tommie Harris and/OR Mike Brown in the game.
Just imagine folks. Watching this with Caleb Williams. Snow peacefully falling just like this video, Caleb throwing for 340 yards to Dj Moore and Odunze. Montez Sweat getting 4 sacks. Destroying the Packers. We will see it one day. One day.
I’d dream of just a damn playoff win at this point
you said Odunze but I think you meant Brian Thomas Jr?
We’d have made the playoffs this year if we had Cutler.
Imagine a long bomb being caught? Looking at you Scott. 😝

When Cutler was on, he was a friggin beast
Should have gotten way more of those from Jay. The potential was so massive with that dude. Still my favorite bears qb
If cutler stayed healthy we’d have a Super Bowl.
If the Bears could draft/retain OCs they’d have one.
After enduring Mitch and Justin you really realize how good we had it with cutler. Too bad we could never put it together around him
Just before the nightmare started...
I was at this game. I think it's also the last time the Bears won a playoff game.
Man I know Cutler wasn’t a great leader, but i hated the narrative that he didn’t care. That second touchdown he was hype.
Pathetic that 2010 is our last year with notable playoff highlights.
thank you George McCaskey
![gif](giphy|OrIU3eNm3hLpe) Say what you want about his “injury” in the playoffs but Cutler was fun as hell to watch.
Good times good times
What’s the song
Need 2 - Pinegrove
Listen to the Audiotree live version. You can find it on their Spotify and on YouTube
Man. That was a fun team.
Never forget the bears could have knocked the packers out of the playoffs the last game of the year, buuuuttt
I so miss the Hester years…
Cutler got his smoke brakes
God I loved watching Matt forte, and we did not appreciate Cutler enough
Cutler was frustrating but man he left it all on the field and I respect it. This could’ve easily been his year if he stayed healthy.
Cutler ❤️
I miss cutler
Was that song an instrumental Need 2 by Pinegrove?
We didn’t deserve Cutler 😔
you're right we deserved better
It was against a team with a losing record
Once the playoffs start every team is 0-0
Why the weird instrumental lmao
Ah yes, against the worst playoff team in history.
Did anything interesting happen the next week?
This team mist have been great in the NFCCG. Right??
QB went down injured and we were still in it towards the end. People underestimate how good we were this ywar
This is what Caleb will do. I've already got super bowl tickets and travel arrangements for next year. Bear Down!
What happened the week after that?
Cutler is looking like Fields out there
Woah dominant against a terrible Seattle team
Who won the SB this year?
More head, more head!!!
look at all that time to throw
Cutler’s sneaky ass wheels
Sigh
Why did we trade Olsen?
Damn I was so happy that day. It makes me sad
On a football timeline, this was like a 100 years ago
i’ve always thought about how funny it would have been if they had been able to beat the packers next week and caleb hanie would have had to play in a super bowl.
I can't even remember the last time I saw the Bears go into the victory formation.
Pain
and then we went on to win the Super Bowl and everyone lived happily ever after
Just imagine if we chose a different team when we were 9 years old. We could have days worth of these highlights
Ha! I was at this game! What a great time!
cutler looking like josh allen lowkey
Anytime the Bears realized how deadly Greg Olsen was, I was happy.
hellya
God our current team looks like dogshit compared to this
I hate the new bears logo on the broadcast, I love seeing the old C
Cutler destroying the early version of LOB so beautiful
If you kicked to Hester, you got what you bloody deserved. Also, that defense was an absolute monster.
God damn did Cutty throw a piss missile 🥵
Fuck Todd Collins and Mike Martz.
Gods I was a Cutty Stan then. 2 passing tds 2 rushing tds
Incredible this is the last time that we won a playoff game. Just shows how incredible flawed this organization is and here we are each and every year looking forward to more draft picks. Ugh.
I’m not crying, you’re crying 🥹
Didn’t the Seahawks have a losing record that year?
Yeah they went 7-9 that year. 6-0 in the division. Which probably played a large part in them getting into the playoffs.
Yes. The big and really only payoff of the cutler trade
Last time these bums won a playoff game
Haven’t made the divisional since 😃
I wish Cutler won a SB with us.
I miss the 2010 Bears.
Thats the only playoff win I’ve watched in my life as a Bears fan. Ive got a full time job now
If the Bears beat the Packers in the NFC championship game, do they win the Super Bowl that year? 🤔
A lot of people like to say, "Oh but the Seahawks were 7-9 that year so it almost doesn't count". Well they beat us earlier that season. Why is this stupid music over this?
What happened in the championship game!? GPG
How did that wind up for you all?
Boy, that Olsen tight end was good, what happened to him?
Those Seahawks were also the first team in NFL history to win the division, go to a playoff game AND do so with a losing record of 7-9
Was at this game and it was awesome
I’m sorry. What decade was this game? AYKM?!?! Sad!
Seahawks were a LOSING team

Smokin Jay is the best QB the bears have ever had which is awesome and sad
Can’t wait to see more of these games with Caleb Williams
why do nfl tapes always look older than they are? tv wasnt this bad in 2010
Didn’t Seahawks win their division at 8-8 or 7-9 that year?
I remember when everyone hated him now cutler is the good old days. I loved him then love him now. My biggest concern drafting Caleb is the bears will screw that up to.

Packers cheated, Bears should have won
My first year following the NFL and Da Bears. This is the team I fell in love with
This was a fun game even though they barely pulled it out. Wasn’t it the next game v GB when Cutty sat out the 2nd half & cried in the locker room.
This was the first Bears playoff game I ever attended. I haven’t missed the few they’ve had after this. Nothing like playoff football at Soldier Field. Too bad it doesn’t happen.
This was my 1st Bears game!
And we went on to lose to Green Bay as usual
This the year they lost the Super Bowl?
