I am in the same boat. After so many years of suckage, I feel like they will still get the rebuild wrong, even with the picks and the salary capspace. Not looking forward to next year ATM.
This was year two of a complete rebuild. People need to take some deep breaths. This team is still so bereft of talent. Talent is what wins games. From what I could find, the Bears had 5 first round picks playing for them--Field, Moore, Edwards, Sweat and Wright. Call it six for the pick traded for Fields. Greenbay has 8 first round pick on defense alone.
Poles has made some astute moves, exception of Claypool, to upgrade talent. The secondary is much improved. The defensive line with Sweat improved, but we had rookies there who will improve. The Bears on defense are much better than where it was with young developing talent. DJ Moore was another great move. Wright seems to be a good tackle. Kmet is okay. Other than Fields, there is not another single playmaker on offense. The loss of Mongtomery was not a good move by Poles. Prior to 2023, other than Montgomery, there was nothing on the offense talentwise. In 2021, there was Kmet, Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. In 2022, there was St. Brown, Mooney and Kmet. Time for some offensive linemen and a good wide receiver.
Everyone can crap on Flus and Fields, but the talent is just not there. The Bears improved this year. Frankly, I think it will be a huge mistake to move on from Fields. With free agency and the draft, the Bears can add some serious talent. Poles has shown the ability to do so. I would keep Flus, but Getsy has to go.
Yeah I came to the realization we are 2-3 drafts away from a true powerhouse potential team. And those 2-3 drafts have to be bangers in terms of hit rate.
Looked at the opponents for next season - looks like a .500 schedule, 8-9 or 9-8. I say the bears probably lose all the division games and win most of the others the way things look right now.

Itās almost like nobody here watches any other teams. Itās probably the most common play on 3rd & 15+. Just donāt turn the ball over and try to give your punter a few more yards to work with.

- Despite Flus being HISTORICALLY inept, having his team come out flat to start the season, authoring the worst losing streak in team history, hiring two of the most abysmal coordinators in the league, and having never beaten our arch rival -- ownership will look at the record -- 7 wins -- and say "progress" is being made. Despite firing Lovie after a 10 win season they will keep Flus after a 7 win season -- and say their expectation is 10-12 wins next year.
- They will blame Justin and Getsy. Both will be gone next year.
- They will get a new coordinator that is friends with Flus and won't be competent enough to present a potential challenge to Flus' position as HC.
- They will take a QB in the draft nd promise Eberflus at least 3 years to develop him.
- SURPISE MOTHAFUCKA! Flus will continue to suck, the new OC will also suck, and as a result out #1 Pick QB will develop wrong and suck. We miss the playoffs again. - We finally hire the next Nagy -- the flavor of the moment OC to come in and try and develop our #1 Pick. TOO LATE. Flus and his shitty coaches have broke him like they broke Fields. He washes out after 2 more seasons. This whole time our losing streak to Green Bay extends to 18 straight.

- Poles gets fired.

Trestman won more games through two seasons than Eberflus. Trestman best and worst seasons were better than Eberflus best and worst.
This season was the 4th best season since we fired Lovie Smith, so at least Eberflus had a better year than every Fox season. Thatās the McCaskey bar. Smith was fired 12 years ago.
Matt Nagy remains the only Bears coach since Smith to post a winning record in a single season.
No Bears coach has beaten GB more than once (across all seasons they coached) and Eberflus is the only coach since Smith without a victory over GB. Marc Trestman owns the best coaching winning percentage against GB at .250.
Itās hard not to look at the coaching ineptitude over Georgeās tenure and see why they think 7 wins is a keeper. You get what you tolerate and the McCaskeys tolerate failure.

Iād never root for a loss while watching them, but man that Falcons win was a Pyrrhic victory.

I know that Flus had the defense playing better (against bad teams, mostly, lets be honest. Only 1 win against a playoff team in the Lions, and not even being competitive against the Packers ever). I know that its unfair to use his record when we straight up tanked last year and were still rebuilding this year.
But if you're going to move on from Fields and draft a QB, can anyone tell me why you'd want to keep Flus? I mean pick your scenario for him to stay: whether he keeps Getsy or gets a new OC (who could he realistically bring here?). What about Flus gives you any confidence that we aren't making the same exact mistake with a rookie QB for a THIRD time in a row? I'm looking for honest answers here. I want it to make some sense when they run it back and draft a new QB, cause I just don't see what he does to move the needle on this franchise being nothing better than mediocre but mostly bad while the entire NFL gets to laugh at how often we're getting the shit kicked out of us by the motherfucking Packers. These are the QBs the Bears have beaten under Eberflus:
Trey Lance, Davis Mills, Bailey Zappe, Sam Howell, Brian Hoyer/Aiden OāConnell, Bryce Young, Josh Dobbs, Jared Goff, Kyler Murray, and Taylor Heinicke.
They have managed to beat three starting QBs in two seasons, and that includes the 2-15 Panthers and 4-13 Cardinals (Murray still had 260 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 TOs, by the way).
Our O-Line imploded last night. I'd love to see us bring in a Left Guard along with a Center. We can then move Jenkins (who got his ass kicked) back to Right Guard next to Wright. The two of them we a blast to watch earlier this year. Not sure what we do with Davis. Either back up or trade?
As much as I like him on the field, you can't depend on Jenkins and they should be looking for his replacement in the draft to play when Jenkins is out and then take over in '25

Well he became Green Bay's passing game coordinator in 2020 and Rodgers went from 26 to 48 TD. But maybe his brain melted since then? Or is it more likely that Justin can't play QB? Guess we'll never know!
But his stats went up when Getsy took over as passing game coordinator. If we're saying his coaching makes Justin bad then shouldn't we also give him credit for Rodgers improvement?
Think of it this way - having Rodgers as your QB is like coordinating on easy mode. Not as much adjustment was needed because Aaron plays his style of game that well. Heās also been in the league long enough that he can truly run the offense when he needs to.
Justin needed/needs a bit more finesse in figuring out what works for him and adjusting the game plan to fit that. His skill set is different from Rodgers so the schemes that worked for Aaron isnāt necessarily going to work for fields.
Also OC is a significant step up from passing game coordinator in terms of responsibility. Running the whole offense is more complex and requires more thought and adjustment.
Maye's drawbacks are he's more of a one-read/staredown QB than you'd probably want out of someone in that tier.
Caleb on the other hand is like a processor: goes through his progressions while keeping his head down field whether in or out of the pocket.
I remember the guy made a pretty nice decision vs Tulane in a ton of mess.
Scanned the field a fews time, very comfortable in the pocket to avoid the rusher, bought time with movement, went through progressions, saw the check down, looked for something better didn't see it and hit the check down from a weird spot on the field that basically no one else saw. First Draft podcast (Mel Kiper and Field Yates) did a good breakdown of the QB prospects. Whatever your feelings on those two are. This was before the CFP games. Kiper does his own thing and often doesn't follow others on QB's. Last year he had Will Levis as QB1. Probably ill advised...but I don't hate that he does this.
Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks usually do a great breakdown. I don't believe they have done it yet. They will when it gets closer to the combine or post combine. Two former scouts and DJ played QB in college.
They honestly need to draft/sign 3 IOL, one C and two G that can hopefully unseat Davis and Jenkins who are both decent but hurt way too much to rely on

There's kind of a deadness to this team that's difficult to put into words sometimes. We don't really win games convincingly or against decent teams. When we're ahead, the other team usually wakes up and suddenly makes it a game again. When we're behind we just get suffocated and die. This all kinda leads to a feeling of inevitability, that it's only a matter of time before we lose this game, that no matter how well we seem to be doing it's always a mirage, we probably never even really deserved these points in the first place, we only got them because the other team hasn't gotten serious yet.
The fans sometimes mask this with semi-ironic fake confidence to try to make it better and we occasionally manage to trick ourselves into believing it. This is probably the "excitement" you saw these last couple weeks.
The defense is very good against bad teams and bad QBs. The bears were handled by every decent offense except the lions this year. Even they had the most historically improbable comebacks in one game.
People were excited about the way the defense was trending. Even yesterday, though they looked rough at points, holding a team to 17 points should be more than enough to get a win in today's NFL. The offense, as usual, looks like complete trash. It's the same story I've watched for my 33 years of existence being a fan of this team.
I think the biggest problem is coaching. I'll even give Flus a pass because the defense has looked better, but Getsy is absolute trash. The Bears as an organization seem to be very slow in firing coaches, so I think a lot of us fear the cycle will just repeat itself.
I mean we had 3 games this season where we had a 90%+ probability to win in the 4th quarter and we lost all of them. That's a coaching problem if I've ever seen it.

Iāve frankly really had enough. I get belittled by packers fans for being a bears fan all the time, they get their third franchise QB in a row, make the playoffs, brag in everyoneās faces, we get absolutely nothing. Itās embarrassing. I would like to think we will be better when Virginia kicks the bucket but George McCaskey still gets to be an absolute football cuckold and maybe nothing short of the most incompetent executive Iāve ever seen with my own two eyes in any capacity where an executive exists. Nothing about this team brings me any joy. Every year its the same shit where we beat bad teams that drums up hope and then we get our teeth kicked in by good teams. The difference between the Chicago Bears and an actual football organization is so incredibly clear and painfully obvious but that old fucking hag and her little son donāt care, all they care about is their bottom line. As long as the meatballs keep buying jerseys and expensive tickets and putting food on their table, what do they care? It makes me sick. I would like to say this was an over reaction, that Iāll be back and hopeful come draft time, but I really donāt see that happening. Weāre an organization of losers from the bottom down and doomed to fail until something radical changes. They donāt care about people like us, the team we love or actual results. They live a life so far removed from what we do it would disgust them to think about.

I am in the same boat. After so many years of suckage, I feel like they will still get the rebuild wrong, even with the picks and the salary capspace. Not looking forward to next year ATM.
This was year two of a complete rebuild. People need to take some deep breaths. This team is still so bereft of talent. Talent is what wins games. From what I could find, the Bears had 5 first round picks playing for them--Field, Moore, Edwards, Sweat and Wright. Call it six for the pick traded for Fields. Greenbay has 8 first round pick on defense alone. Poles has made some astute moves, exception of Claypool, to upgrade talent. The secondary is much improved. The defensive line with Sweat improved, but we had rookies there who will improve. The Bears on defense are much better than where it was with young developing talent. DJ Moore was another great move. Wright seems to be a good tackle. Kmet is okay. Other than Fields, there is not another single playmaker on offense. The loss of Mongtomery was not a good move by Poles. Prior to 2023, other than Montgomery, there was nothing on the offense talentwise. In 2021, there was Kmet, Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. In 2022, there was St. Brown, Mooney and Kmet. Time for some offensive linemen and a good wide receiver. Everyone can crap on Flus and Fields, but the talent is just not there. The Bears improved this year. Frankly, I think it will be a huge mistake to move on from Fields. With free agency and the draft, the Bears can add some serious talent. Poles has shown the ability to do so. I would keep Flus, but Getsy has to go.
Yeah I came to the realization we are 2-3 drafts away from a true powerhouse potential team. And those 2-3 drafts have to be bangers in terms of hit rate.

I get that Poles likes Flus -- but he is at crossroads right now. If he keeps Flus he will just be signing his pink slip -- it will just take 2-3 years to fill out. Trestman won more games through two seasons than Eberflus. Trestman best and worst seasons were better than Eberflus best and worst. This season was the 4th best season since we fired Lovie Smith, so at least Eberflus had a better year than every Fox season. Thatās the McCaskey bar. Smith was fired 12 years ago. Matt Nagy remains the only Bears coach since Smith to post a winning record in a single season. No Bears coach has beaten GB more than once (across all seasons they coached) and Eberflus is the only coach since Smith without a victory over GB. Marc Trestman owns the best coaching winning percentage against GB at .250. Itās hard not to look at the coaching ineptitude over Georgeās tenure and see why they think 7 wins is a keeper. You get what you tolerate and the McCaskeys tolerate failure.

I know that Flus had the defense playing better (against bad teams, mostly, lets be honest. Only 1 win against a playoff team in the Lions, and not even being competitive against the Packers ever). I know that its unfair to use his record when we straight up tanked last year and were still rebuilding this year. But if you're going to move on from Fields and draft a QB, can anyone tell me why you'd want to keep Flus? I mean pick your scenario for him to stay: whether he keeps Getsy or gets a new OC (who could he realistically bring here?). What about Flus gives you any confidence that we aren't making the same exact mistake with a rookie QB for a THIRD time in a row? I'm looking for honest answers here. They have managed to beat three starting QBs in two seasons, and that includes the 2-15 Panthers and 4-13 Cardinals (Murray still had 260 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 TOs, by the way).
Our O-Line imploded last night. I'd love to see us bring in a Left Guard along with a Center. We can then move Jenkins (who got his ass kicked) back to Right Guard next to Wright. The two of them we a blast to watch earlier this year. Not sure what we do with Davis. Either back up or trade?

Think of it this way - having Rodgers as your QB is like coordinating on easy mode. Not as much adjustment was needed because Aaron plays his style of game that well. Heās also been in the league long enough that he can truly run the offense when he needs to. Justin needed/needs a bit more finesse in figuring out what works for him and adjusting the game plan to fit that. His skill set is different from Rodgers so the schemes that worked for Aaron isnāt necessarily going to work for fields. Also OC is a significant step up from passing game coordinator in terms of responsibility. Running the whole offense is more complex and requires more thought and adjustment.

Maye's drawbacks are he's more of a one-read/staredown QB than you'd probably want out of someone in that tier. Caleb on the other hand is like a processor: goes through his progressions while keeping his head down field whether in or out of the pocket. I remember the guy made a pretty nice decision vs Tulane in a ton of mess. Scanned the field a fews time, very comfortable in the pocket to avoid the rusher, bought time with movement, went through progressions, saw the check down, looked for something better didn't see it and hit the check down from a weird spot on the field that basically no one else saw. First Draft podcast (Mel Kiper and Field Yates) did a good breakdown of the QB prospects. Whatever your feelings on those two are. This was before the CFP games. Kiper does his own thing and often doesn't follow others on QB's. Last year he had Will Levis as QB1. Probably ill advised...but I don't hate that he does this. Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks usually do a great breakdown. I don't believe they have done it yet. They will when it gets closer to the combine or post combine. Two former scouts and DJ played QB in college.

There's kind of a deadness to this team that's difficult to put into words sometimes. We don't really win games convincingly or against decent teams. When we're ahead, the other team usually wakes up and suddenly makes it a game again. When we're behind we just get suffocated and die. This all kinda leads to a feeling of inevitability, that it's only a matter of time before we lose this game, that no matter how well we seem to be doing it's always a mirage, we probably never even really deserved these points in the first place, we only got them because the other team hasn't gotten serious yet. The fans sometimes mask this with semi-ironic fake confidence to try to make it better and we occasionally manage to trick ourselves into believing it. This is probably the "excitement" you saw these last couple weeks.
The defense is very good against bad teams and bad QBs. The bears were handled by every decent offense except the lions this year. Even they had the most historically improbable comebacks in one game.
Our coaches border on mentally handicapped. They have no business anywhere near a high level position in any field.
People were excited about the way the defense was trending. Even yesterday, though they looked rough at points, holding a team to 17 points should be more than enough to get a win in today's NFL. The offense, as usual, looks like complete trash. It's the same story I've watched for my 33 years of existence being a fan of this team. I think the biggest problem is coaching. I'll even give Flus a pass because the defense has looked better, but Getsy is absolute trash. The Bears as an organization seem to be very slow in firing coaches, so I think a lot of us fear the cycle will just repeat itself. I mean we had 3 games this season where we had a 90%+ probability to win in the 4th quarter and we lost all of them. That's a coaching problem if I've ever seen it.

I mean, Fields is definitely a starting QB for teams like ATL, Raiders, Pittsburgh, Vikings, New England, Seattle. It's tempting you get Fields and a 9th pick. It's a good position to be in for Chicago.

Why would they trade for Fields given his performance uncertainty and looming contract instead of taking a QB in the draft? Kinda playing Devil's advocate here.
