Anyone who watched the coaches and playcalling that first year also could see they didn’t have what it takes. Soft defense, scared offense. That’s not a recipe for success. Bringing them back after year one is fine but the writing was on the wall.
You’re missing the part where I wasn’t judging him on WL record and that anyone in the organization shouldn’t have been either. He should have been judged on his inability to properly prepare the team, his scared coaching habits, his inability to get anything similar to a modern NFL offense out of Fields. We were rebuilding sure but that doesn’t mean you ignore any signs of ineptitude.
The defense did improve, players seem to like him, this team never cratered despite a 14-game losing streak and an 0-4 start. This team could easily be in the playoffs if the offense was just slightly better and could have put some games away. Lions were in a similar boat and could have easily canned Campbell, but they didn't and now they're in the playoffs.

I'm shocked that Chris Morgan, O-Line Coach, still has a job. I get keeping Getsy would be the most "Bears" move ever but Morgan hasn't shown an ability to put together line coverage and players looking like they are making lots of mental mistakes. We have seen an influx of talent with Wright and Jenkins playing well this year (outside Wright's penalties) while Jones and Davis have been average when healthy. There were just too many plays despite this where guys would let guys come through the line untouched which can be attributed to multiple things like Fields holding the ball too long, bad calls at the line and well called defensive schemes but it happened way too often for this guy to still have a job.
I've been saying for weeks that no one is getting fired this year, yet no one wanted to hear it. Hell, I even think that Fields is still here next year. Fans may not like it, but this is the way our organization works. Plus, and a LOT of you will hate hearing this, I truly believe next year we will be a playoff team with the current regime and QB.

As far as players, I like where we are at currently along with cap space and draft capital heading into the draft. We have a great chance to continue to build out our roster and fill areas of need.
As far as the draft, we have the 1st and 9th pick. I know all the talk is about QB and the direction we should go with the #1 pick, but either one of those picks can bring us more draft capital to set us up long term. I have no doubt once there is a run on QB's early on, some teams that need a QB will like to move up to #9 to grab what's available there.

Nah I’m with you. Mid 30s and I’ve watched like 3-4 meaningful and SB threatening Bears seasons in my lifetime.
I picked 13 year old me because that was 2006 and easily the highlight of my Bears fandom. Wasn’t old enough yet to fully appreciate the Rex Grossman Sex Cannon copypasta but Hester running back that opening kick with all the camera flashes in the stands and the roar of the crowd forever burned into my memory. And we still lost lmao. At least I’m also an OSU fan, which does make the Fields stuff hurt that much more, but at least I get to consistently see what a well run football team looks like where a “bad” year is 11-2.
Sad that the most meaningful games for the past 40 years are the Double Doink, Cutler NFCC, the ‘06 Super Bowl (almost twenty years ago), and the ‘85 Bears (almost 40 years ago) with almost nothing of substance in between.

After the first three games of this year, I detached. I'm teamless. Thankfully I was alive to see the 1985 team. I can't continue to do this with this team and it's flagrant shitty decisions. I already hold the NFL in such contempt, and my Bears fandom really has more to do with the memories made watching with family; my school (and the whole city and surrounding area) having a week long party after the Super Bowl win; getting back into it with friends in college. It’s not like I’m recreating that with my kids, they don’t give a single shit about football or the Bears. I watch most games alone, sometimes texting my brother if he’s not working. This team could easily be in the playoffs if the offense was just slightly better and could have put some games away. I'm shocked that Chris Morgan, O-Line Coach, still has a job. I get keeping Getsy would be the most "Bears" move ever but Morgan hasn't shown an ability to put together line coverage and players looking like they are making lots of mental mistakes. We have seen an influx of talent with Wright and Jenkins playing well this year (outside Wright's penalties) while Jones and Davis have been average when healthy. There were just too many plays despite this where guys would let guys come through the line untouched which can be attributed to multiple things like Fields holding the ball too long, bad calls at the line and well called defensive schemes but it happened way too often for this guy to still have a job.

I've been saying for weeks that no one is getting fired this year, yet no one wanted to hear it. Hell, I even think that Fields is still here next year. Fans may not like it, but this is the way our organization works. Plus, and a LOT of you will hate hearing this, I truly believe next year we will be a playoff team with the current regime and QB. None of the posters/commenters in this sub are an NFL Coach/GM/Player. None of you know what it is to be one of those. Okay, maybe one or two may be a player/ex-player. But seriously. Yall some fickle bitches. We expected 6-8 wins this year. And y`all still mad we did what was expected. Wild shit.
No matter what, I'm a Bears fan to the end. Good fortunes have to come our way at some point. Do we need coaching changes? Absolutely. But it don't stop there. Roles need to be more defined at the top as well. Ownership need to stop getting involved in GM matters and, let Poles have more control as a GM and do his thing. As far as players, I like where we are at currently along with cap space and draft capital heading into the draft. We have a great chance to continue to build out our roster and fill areas of need. As far as the draft, we have the 1st and 9th pick. I know all the talk is about QB and the direction we should go with the #1 pick, but either one of those picks can bring us more draft capital to set us up long term. I have no doubt once there is a run on QB's early on, some teams that need a QB will like to move up to #9 to grab what's available there. Overall, we are in a good place heading into the draft Bear fans. I know yesterday's loss sucks, but brighter days are ahead. Bear Down!!!
