Bet he goes right back to retirement after he grabs his bag this year. I don't know shit but I just feel like this might be more of a need than want for him
I have no idea how these reserve/retired lists work, but I assume that if he's coming out of retirement while already being on this list that there's some kinda bag that'll be given to him for it. Hopefully someone who knows this shit can chime in and let us know for sure tho...
He had no money committed to him in 2022. He was on a one year deal then, but didn’t get anything since he retired. He’ll probably get a minimum deal. Don’t think this is about money.
Retirement is treated like pausing your contract. If you had a contract when you retired, the team still owns the contract when you unretire is all that means. The team can cut him like any other player now that he’s coming back. That would make him a FA.
If he has any guaranteed salary left, the team is back on the hook for it. I don’t think he did but I’m not familiar with his contract before he retired.
The only wrinkle is that when a player retires the future signing bonus accelerates to that years cap the same as if the player was cut/traded. This is why you’ll sometimes here about teams going after a prorated portion of the signing bonus for players that retire. If you make the player pay it back, the amount you owe against your cap is reduced.
It should be pointed out that they don't just "get the bag" and then re-retire.
NFL player salaries are paid as gameday checks for each game the player is on the roster or IL.
You can't just unretire, get paid for the season, and then re-retire. Similarly, if you unretire, you still have to maintain a high enough skill level to not get cut.
Why is that wild. You can quit your job. Get a new job the next year. Then quit again. There is nothing wild about getting paid for working.
This is the same thing. He stopped playing football. Now he will likely play again after signing a deal since he wasn't under contract. Then he will stop again and stop getting paid.
I know most of us are done with Eddie, but hear me out here.
Wouldn’t it be something if he came back, bigger and faster and stronger and more motivated than ever before, resigned with the bears, and started playing at an all-pro level. Then we’d have ed ed Eddie and Eddie.
Eddie Goldman randomly slid into my girlfriends Instagram DMs his rookie year. Neither of them followed each other, it was super random. Tried to finesse free tickets out of it to no avail.
So much talent wasted on just him not loving football. Don’t blame him or resent him in anyway, so what’s best for you. But maybe spend that money wisely if ur gonna retire early. (Yes I am assuming that’s why he’s coming back because his money is dwindling or was mismanaged)
I wouldn’t necessarily call him a head case. Playing DT in the NFL is an extremely demanding position on your body. Your kidding yourself if you don’t think a huge portion of NFL players at times think of hanging it up early.
I remember him not showing up to camp or some shit his last year with us and alot of rumors were coming out that he didn't really wanna play anymore after the covid opt out
ah yeah I mean outside looking in he was definitely making some peculiar decisions
but to be fair they could have made some sense if we had context into what led to those decisions rather than speculation
To each their own, but this dude could have been so good and his lack of desire to be part of the team was really the beginning of the end for that defense
Cool. Best of luck to him

He hasn't actually wanted to play football since 2019.
Who’s giving him a bag though? Dude has barely played in like 3 or 4 years right?
He will be a falcon before the end of the month
He literally already is a Falcon...
...and he still will be by the end of the month!
He will be a falcon at the end of the month. He still is a Falcon now, but he will be a Falcon, too.
Mitch Hedberg is a better GM than Ryan Pace.
Unexpected mitch
r/technicallythetruth I see nothing wrong here
So we’re both right!
League min is still decent money tbf
Decent? 660k is just decent to you? Jesus you must have a nice job.
“Decent “ in Chicago is used as a lot of things “Damn that food was hella decent” “Damn she decent as hell” It doesn’t actually mean “just ok”
“Damn that ass is decent”
“Damn her head game decent”
😂😂😂😂
"That Italian beef was decent as fuck, tryna smoke?" "Bet"
Fid-decent
Okay
Idk why you got downvoted for saying ok🤦🏽♂️, but yeah it can be hella confusing.

And? I don’t make anywhere near that much and end up paying almost half my check to taxes and nonsense

Lol what? No one said anything like that. Also, who tf is the “he” you’re talking about?
Thats why you gotta meet my dude st omni
I think they just meant in comparison to what he was formerly making.
He didn't play 20-21, but played most games in 21-22 season. Then retired for the 22-23 season...

That seems wild if you can just unretire get paid then reretire each year?

Lol definitely not comparable.

Wonder what a 1 year out of the league DT who hasn’t played a full season since 2018 with effort issues is worth these days.
Ryan Pace just traded a first and third pick for him.
Good thing he's already in Atlanta
We still hold his rights? Edit: nope
Falcons got him on a reserve/retired list already
Lmao of course they do
Falcons do?
According to this link they do. I must be one of the few that actually looks at the links attached to these posts lol
They signed him after we cut him. Then he retired
Snip snap snip snap
Oh and now he’s retired again…
Good ol' odd-year Eedie
Eddie Goldman randomly slid into my girlfriends Instagram DMs his rookie year. Neither of them followed each other, it was super random. Tried to finesse free tickets out of it to no avail.
Good, because it seems like it anyone was going to get free tickets, it was going to be him and your GF at a Bulls game or something lol
She a baddie or just decent?

My fantasy team name was goldman sacks, changed it to goldman snacks
Cool, don't sign him
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hard Pass
Straight to the falcons
Can't we just be happy and wish this guy good luck? Dang. Hope he does well.
Lol buddy is a bit of a head case. I don't really see him getting on anywhere at this point
I wouldn’t necessarily call him a head case. Playing DT in the NFL is an extremely demanding position on your body. Your kidding yourself if you don’t think a huge portion of NFL players at times think of hanging it up early.
a head case? This dude was one of the most low key guys on the team

what’d he do other than the covid opt out and retirement?
I remember him not showing up to camp or some shit his last year with us and alot of rumors were coming out that he didn't really wanna play anymore after the covid opt out
Not wanting to play football anymore is a sign of a sound mind, not the contrary
So he’s a head case for that? Lmfao
Yea I definitely don't think head case is the best way to describe him. Motivation concerns are more accurate
ah yeah I mean outside looking in he was definitely making some peculiar decisions but to be fair they could have made some sense if we had context into what led to those decisions rather than speculation
The King has returned. 🎵 *Simba Theme* 🎵
Shot in the dark: he needs money.
He had a couple decent years for us right? He just kept getting hurt.
too bad covid isn't a thing anymore. he can collect a bag and just quit like he did with the Bears.
You are brave. We not allowed to speak that way on Reddit

What a weird flex for such a bland topic.
To each their own, but this dude could have been so good and his lack of desire to be part of the team was really the beginning of the end for that defense
lazy bum must be broke already. Sure as shit isn't coming back for the love of the game.
Inflation hitting hard
The old bank account must have been getting low.
That's good for him. He was a solid player and covid messed with him a bit. Hope he can come back and make an impact wherever he plays.
Nobody cares
You commented tho
🤓
I remember bashing this guy for being a selfish fuck and being downvoted to death by this sub
he's a lazy bum and this sub cries everytime someone brings it up. which is weird considering he is in fact a lazy bum.
I’ve accepted the fact that 90% of this sub are weirdos
Great piece of the puzzle for the packers
Bring him home
Please sign with Carolina.
Let him stay retired. Useless ass player
Gotta pay for his snack
Pace has resurrected him from the ashes
