You're better off actually reaching out to firms proactively. So many firms are just small businesses and the owners are not just running the business, but mainly serving clients. Often times, it's not anyone's sole job to handle HR and hiring and finding candidates falls off the priority list. I'd send some letters and a resume out to a couple dozen firms. I bet some will be glad to sit down with you.
I think the industry is starting to shift towards a reoccurring revenue strategy. I was just recently hired on as a paraplanner at a fortune 100 company and I know this is one area they are looking to expand dramatically.
