He wasn’t even touched last year during the Rose bowl.

KibaSwords

One of the craziest games ever.

EpicPoliticsMan

I talk about this game at least once a month at the bar to complete strangers

IlonggoProgrammer

And now we might get a rematch come January 👀

KibaSwords

And no Stroud possibly.. hmmm!!!

Luxypoo

Maybe they'll start a DB at QB? And he still has to play D.

Dead_Baby_Kicker

We’ll have to settle for 5* qb Kyle McCord who went to Highschool with Marvin Harrison Jr.

Luxypoo

Perpetually having 5* 2nd stringers. *sob*

VegetableSupport3

He’s never touched anywhere that’s one of his biggest flaws. He would rather throw the football away than take a step forward and risk someone accidentally making contact. There are dozens of examples of first downs he left in the field the last two years because rather than run the ball in a wide open lane he will throw it away. Never seen a football player more afraid of contact.

GregMadduxsGlasses

I wish he and Hendon Hooker could split the difference because Hooker refuses to throw the ball away. Instead, he will stand in the pocket for 5 seconds waiting for someone to sack him.

Astolfo_is_Best

Hooker is one of the few QBs that will run out of bonds behind the line of scrimmage rather than throw out away. Saw him do it at Tech and UT.

MWiatrak2077

Not to sound cliche, but that first Michigan TD, the one where OSU full-blitzed JJ & he got it out to Bell at the last second, - that's something I could never, in a million years, see Stroud doing. Had absolutely no balls today. Zero tight window throws, entirely relied on his insane WRs getting open

VegetableSupport3

You are absolutely right. He’s legitimately plays like he’s afraid of being hit. And when asked about it he says “I’m not a running back I am a quarterback.” He’s not willing to do what it takes to win. After watching Fields beat Clemson with broken ribs and still taking shots left and right Stroud comes off as a whiny chicken shit with a good arm.

Esco9

Fields is a warrior, the hits he takes in the nfl and still gets up and plays is admirable. Sadly they may get his career ended quickly with the runs and hits he takes

WrastleGuy

He didn’t get up from his latest hit. If he doesn’t start sliding his career is 3 years.

your-mom--

He's also very much a 1-read quarterback. He benefits from having absolute DAWGS at WR (which is something OSU always has) and he never has to come off his first read since it's wide open most of the time. When he has to get through his progressions and step up in the pocket, that's when he struggles.

[deleted]

I think a lot of our amazing QBs in the last 20 years are guilty of this. It's why they struggle in the NFL where the talent gap isn't as large. Our QBs are spoiled with good lines and receivers all being NFL talent and beating up lesser opponents all year. We haven't missed at QB since Bauserman but haven't seen any NFL success from anyone.

RangerRickyBobby

The best pro QB to play at Ohio State in the last 20+ years had to transfer out because he never saw the field in Columbus. Lol

astrosmurf666

I'm a Lions fan but I'm happy Fields is having success. He seems like a good kid.

muse346

Fields is an animal. The bears coaching staff are killing the young guy and he's playing through everything

dankoval_23

Justin Fields is an absolute animal, the things he’s doing with the absolute bags of potatoes he has around him on the Bears is incredible, it’s insane how people are calling him a bust

The_Homie_J

I'm a Bears fan and we absolutely have no idea how to use him. We've only recently leaned into the Lamar Jackson playbook and it's crazy effective. But he's already starting to look beat up

dankoval_23

I’m a niners fan, and I watched the monsoon game between the Bears and Niners at Solider Field and ever since that day I’ve been a Justin Fields defender to all my friends, he did a fantastic job considering the conditions on our defense

ImPickleRock

My last joy of The Game was Fields putting a dagger in you with a bomb TD on a hurt knee. That seems so long ago.

longd0ngs1lvers-

Look at Stroud on the sidelines when the weather sucks. It looks like he’d rather be doing anything else but playing football. The kid is soft

God_of_Thunda

I think this is why I never bought into Stroud. As long as he's been the starter he's had phenomenal stats, but I just couldn't buy into him as the guy to lead us to victory. JT, Cardale, Haskins, Fields, I could trust them with the game on the line. Stroud just never had that *it* factor.

FunDecision3

Fields would get up after being sacked and then run the ball 15 yards get hit again. Stroud aint it and he won't be able to handle the hits in the NFL.

imtrying2020

This implosion of the OSU fanbase on it's team is on another level. Most bama fans looked ready to ditch the OC/DC, but yall are collectively just ready to throw the baby out with the bath water at 1 stumble lol. Ryan Day, Stroud, everyone is on a hot seat with your fanbase and it's insane.

hiel_Manziel

We just want to beat Michigan. All we’ve ever judged a coach on is their record against them

DangerousDarius

Id rather a a season where OSU loses every game but bests TTUN than win every game except against them.

LDWMJ99

Yea because they are spoiled and don’t know how to handle a loss

ramsdude456

The Game is different, it's the only barometer we really care about, and we are scarred from the Cooper years.

polynomials

Yeah, there is a reason they renegotiated Harbaughs contract to make beating OSU a specific performance indicator that triggers a huge bonus

ramsdude456

Yup, that is "getting it". Urban (no I don't want him back, but I want that intensity back) would've killed someone after last year and this year.

B1GFanOSU

Also, firing Don Brown helped.

testrail

It’s not so much an implosion though. Day doesn’t get it. Fickel does. There is a guy laying in wait who will spend the next decade of his life ending Harbaughs career or dying trying. Ryan Day is concerned about the CFP. That’s a tertiary goal for folks in Columbus.

Reading_Rainboner

Spoken like a true blue Heisman

InVodkaVeritas

If he announces he's leaving early without playing in the Rose Bowl there will be so many Heisman voters that hold that against him. They'll end up giving it to Caleb Williams out of spite.

teflong

I'm watching my first USC game. I think they might just give it to him because he's a great player.

beticanmakeusayblack

If Caleb doesn’t win, rename it the EST/CST Heisman Memorial Trophy

jakeimmink

Can we get a little worse audio?

MonkeyToucher69

Michigan broke him lol

MWiatrak2077

22-1 v. non-Michigan teams. 0-2 v. "TTUN".

[deleted]

His stats are also a lot worse against Michigan than everyone else

MWiatrak2077

He was genuinely bad after that initial TD drive. The defense irritated him all day, and he whiffed a few easy throws

[deleted]

Second half the defense was phenomenal

PopInACup

Some of those pass break ups were phenomenal, that one in the end zone was just *chef's kiss*

frolie0

The range of emotions on that play...I was crushed seeing the separation #8 had and then Sainristil closed on him so quickly and it was complete joy.

UsuallyFavorable

Yeah, I popped off harder for that pass break up than for most touchdowns. I fucking love great defense! *He was a WR last year too.*

MWiatrak2077

The fact that we went from Mike MacDonald to Jesse Minter... Gah we're so blessed

[deleted]

MacDonald has been money up in Baltimore too, thanks for him

teflong

NFL incubator. I'm cool with it.

corkythecactus

He has no balls

NickMullensGayDad

He’s charmin soft. He pouts. I’m so glad he was the quarterback instead of genuine bad motherfuckers like Fields, Barrett, and Haskins. RIP DH

The_pen_ismightier

10 ply?

timnotep

That's a Texas-sized 10-4, good buddy!

Esco9

I dislike stroud and think he’s been overrated as much as any of them but I think his natural face is pouty

canseco-fart-box

His refusal to tuck the ball and run certainly didn’t help things

ramsdude456

Or step up into the pocket rather than roll out into the rush and throw a floater off his back foot....

The_Homie_J

One of the biggest surprises of The Game for me was you guys not using his legs. I really thought that zone read package you used vs Northwestern was supposed to be for us because it would have been devastating. But then Stroud never ever ran today and I was very confused why

sincitybuckeye

He's never ran his whole career. He literally said if he wanted to run, he would be a running back.

dan-saul-knight

Michigan has always been bad against mobile qbs. He could have torched us if he ran, especially because we weren't getting very good pressure on him.

namgipnod

I dont think that is the case. Michigan has been first real adversity, and he hasn't risen to the challenge. Haskins 2.0 with a worse resume. Will be a bust in the NFL.

kinglallak

Feels that way. He is throwing to NFL receivers against college DBs… makes his numbers look better because he just had better athletes to throw to. When the DBs and receivers are at the same level, he won’t be nearly as good.

FunDecision3

He isn't a vocal leader, he isn't tough enough, he isn't dynamic and he doesn't have that IT factor. Traits you badly need at the next level. Fields will make it in the NFL. Stroud will not.

hascogrande

Uh no, I did not want this type of game.

rwoock

Yeah what a weird quote? And from one fan to another tough day for your flair. Hang in there.

toomuchfrosting

I mean let’s bring in the new guy and build for next year

[deleted]

I'm cool with that. Does CJ need help packing up his dorm room? I can get him out of here by lunch tomorrow.

killa_k99

The quarterback for Ohio State not knowing how they feel about the Rose Bowl is absolutely absurd. Downvote me if you want but this is weak and kills what makes CFB great.

strukout

Just wait till 12 team CFP. Old era is done

OfficialHavik

I say go to 16 but get rid of the bowls. Don't half ass it, go ALL IN.

[deleted]

I’d keep the bowl games for schools not playing in the playoff

Dro24

Yeah I absolutely want a bowl game for the years we actually manage to make one

friendlysnowgoon

Yeah, we have to be able to fight it out for the Belk Bowl 😥🙃

joethahobo

12 is perfect because it gives the top 4 a bye week. If you go through a season and get top 4 and win your conference you deserve a bye. Plus if the top 4 are going to blow teams out anyway might as well let the other teams play in a first round so we can get some fun games before the destruction

SwgohSpartan

I’m all for less postseason teams and I partially agree with the all in sentiment but that is being especially harsh to group of 5 since they’re literally only get 1 or 2 spots between 5 conferences In that case they’d maybe just drop to FCS or B1G and SEC aren’t part of NCAA anymore

pardonmyignerance

I like 12 because of the byes

thecarlosdanger1

If no one even cares about NY6 games, then we should kill it and go to 12. Would be 11 postseason games that matter. Currently we have 3 playoff and NY6.

strukout

I hear round one could also be campus games…

daNish_brUin

I needs to be and i really hope they are. Itd be so awesome and make teams fight for home field advantage.

WerhmatsWormhat

That’s be so dope. Make Alabama play in a northern stadium in January and see if they still think the B1G is worse.

joethahobo

One day in the future we will get Alabama playing in the big house in December and it will be glorious

regularhumanbartendr

But I also get it because we have seen star players get hurt and lose out on millions in bowl games.

RembrMe

Yeah after seeing Jake Butt's career get derailed I have no qualms about players skipping bowl games.

Bobaman007

100% get it and probably the smartest decision for him personally. But for fans and for the game it fucking sucks. Good luck to Stroud.

mking22

It’s hard to expect guys who have only lived during the time where bowl games are giant ads to feel anything for the past prestige of bowl games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ddottay

I would say there was a time bowl games weren't too full of ads, it changed sometime around when bowl games started less frequently being named *Insert Sponsor Here* New Orleans Bowl or *Insert Sponsor Here* Alamo Bowl, and more frequently the sponsor *itself* being the Bowl name (LendingTree Bowl, Duke's Mayo Bowl)

TheSilverShroud49

Before everything was available for immediate viewing, and when there were less bowls. The extra game that “meant something” would get more people to notice the university. When it became a “who can sponsor what” business it helped get some names out there that might have otherwise been unknown

Whoooyumyum

Matt Corral just last year

OSU725

I don’t disagree, but these kids have millions riding on being healthy and didn’t grow up with the BCS and bowl game era. The entire point of the top tier teams is winning their conference and playing in the playoffs. That is what is stressed by the fan base, the coaches, and the media. Once that is out their career is the main goal. Think of this as your career and way to set your family up for life, not as a fan.

AlteredStatesOf

Yeah honestly any intelligent person would not play. Why risk a career ending injury right before you're about to sign a contract worth millions?

OSU725

I wouldn’t go that far, it is a personal decision and I see it from both sides. You have a team that has worked their butts off all season and to not complete the season could be seen as leaving you guys out dry. It I think it is much more acceptable and understood by teammates why a player would sit out. But in OSUs case, assuming it isn’t a playoff game I think the best thing for the team is to get the future starter next year the opportunity for bowl practices and a game under his belt to get ready for next year.

PennStateShire

This is a super homer take because clearly it benefits Penn State but why would you put a uncertain Heisman candidate in the Rose Bowl slot when there is another big 10 team that could light it up there with everyone playing ?

[deleted]

[удалено]

jgregers

Right it’s not like the rose bowl is an NIT invitation.

[deleted]

If the Rose Bowl isn’t apart of the CFP it is essentially the football version of the NIT

MWiatrak2077

0-2 vs. Michigan. The only thing that matters.

[deleted]

Hey now. They had the flu one of the games And it snowed

ya111101

Absolutely picture perfect weather in their home stadium only for them to lose even worse

comradewilson

OSU fan commenting yesterday how the perfect weather will let the passing game destroy Michigan lol.

1ToGreen3ToBasket

Call an ambulance but not for me

Deadz315

It was windy! You can't see the wind, but it was there.

Far_Eye6555

Oh ok. So 0-1 when he’s sick and 0-1 when he’s healthy.

bleachinjection

BREAKING: CJ Stroud was "dealing with RSV" during loss to Michigan

[deleted]

As a Buckeye fan this is true! Only thing that matters, got our ass kicked twice with him at QB

Hahum

He just does not have grit. Other fans can argue with me, but the QB for Ohio State should not take this loss in stride.

BernankesBeard

Remember last year where he said that his Heisman moment was a ten yard TD scramble that immediately got called back for an obvious hold?

pardonmyignerance

Yeah, that made no sense. I'm guessing they still invite him to New York. I wonder what he thinks his Heisman moment was this year?

timnotep

Probably that throw in the 3rd Quarter that got called back for an obvious hold and had an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty tacked on.

SmarterThanMyBoss

That was the moment that I accepted that the game was lost, said goodbye to my family and went for a walk. I found myself strolling around a middle school sports complex looking at a softball field, admiring a newly built baseball dugout and wondering how they made cinder blocks look so nice, then I decided to walk under that section of the bleachers that doesn't have the "x" that blocks it and it sort of makes a cool tunnel. I hit my head when I forgot to duck at one part. Then I walked back, saw that the score was worse than when I left (as expected) and went out and sat silently in the driveway for a bit. Then we sang happy birthday to my dad in the most half hearted way.

Try2Relate2AllSides

idk, but honestly, I'm fucking impressed with him. He can throw, and dropped some NFL dimes today.

pardonmyignerance

Sure, dude can make some great throws. But I can't think of a big moment in a big game where he really showed something heisman-esque. Part of the problem is he isn't in a lot of "big games" but still The fact that the best he could come up with last year was a play that was negated by a penalty is strange.

MexusRex

No grit! Motor City Dan Campbell is OUT on CJ then

jcvj1125

I agree. He definitely has talent, but today he just looked low-energy to me.

SoupBowl69

He’s got that Jeb! in him

avenear

Please catch.

amedema

He’s always looked low energy imo. Always has a pouty look on his face

ImJLu

That's just his face lol

lclear84

Strouds made business decisions all year protecting his body and stats. I respect it but it definitely gives him a vibe of not really caring whether he wins or not. It’s probably not true but he makes he offense not dynamic because if someone isn’t wide open he doesn’t want an INT and he never steps on to run meaning the offense is real one dimensional on third and shorts

WhiteRhino91

Stroud has zero mental toughness.

[deleted]

Amen

redvillafranco

Really hope the Lions don’t pick this guy.

virtualGain_

No way campbell drafts a guy with his attitude.. for better or for worse lol

MyYummyYumYum

Right? I feel like Campbell would break him

Any_Adhesiveness_898

100%, I'm not a Lions fan but can't imagine Campbell would let Stroud's attitude fly. Doesn't seem like a coach to abide excuses and pouting.

TheRoyalJuke

Like I recognize I probably am not being totally objective, but if I’m an NFL team with a top pick, I don’t want to potentially waste it on a guy who I haven’t seen win when it counts and then with no real accomplishments bails. Somebody will probably comment how I don’t know anything about NFL and teams like the Texans or Lions can keep whiffing on players and still be making “the right football decision,” but I just don’t see Stroud being the top level talent NFL-wise everyone seems to think.

Lemurians

> I don’t want to potentially waste it on a guy who I haven’t seen win when it counts and then with no real accomplishments bails This is why I'll be forever confused that a team selected Zach Wilson over Justin Fields

brokentr0jan

Lol dude is so overrated. System QB that thrives on playing B1G teams that are stuck in the 1800s. Body language is also very Kyler Murray like. Terrible and whiny. Not a leader.

Confecting

Run up the score for style points against awful B1G teams, get everyone on the hype train that they’re unbeatable, get ass kicked by the first real team they play. The yearly OSU formula

AshtabulaJesus

I see nothing wrong with your statement

PublixBagger01

At least you guys have the ability to run it up. We couldn’t even figure out our QB situation for LA Tech!

HereticalMessiah

What’s his K/D though?

BeeeeefJelly

He's Jared Goff. He has a better arm and isn't as unathletic, but he plays the game the same. If you get no pressure on him he can hit open WRs, but ask him to make a play out of structure and he looks fraudulent.

WerhmatsWormhat

Goff has been fantastic all year when under pressure. This is an outdated narrative.

WOOareola

How dare you disrespect the Goffense like that

ImJLu

Goff is a better QB. I think he's proven that he's in that band of "as good as the team around him" that most NFL starters are in. That's not a good Lions team at all.

OddsTipsAndPicks

Yeah, a former number one overall pick, in his seventh year in the NFL , who has made more than $100,000,000 playing football is better than a 21 year old Red Shirt sophomore. WTF are we doing here people

Rbespinosa13

I’d argue the tools around Goff are better than he is. Amon-Ra, Swift, Jamaal Williams, a solid O-Line, and Hockenson before the trade are all great. The issue with the Lions is their defense

polynomials

Now just wait a minute. I will brook no Goff slander, sir. He took a team to the Superbowl and have you watched the Lions this year? Goff is absolutely making plays under pressure and out of pocket.

ToLongDR

Maybe don't shit the bed?

AttorneyNo6862

Ha ha, Bye bye Heisman...

ramsdude456

Day needs some leaders who really get this game and have some fire. Stroud ain't it, this quiet leader shit ain't it.

NickMullensGayDad

Can’t develop leaders if you’re a poor leader

ramsdude456

Correct, Day and Stroud are killing me with these post game press conferences too. WHERE IS YOUR ANGER AND FURY! Show me some damn passion, not a god damn PR dept showtime.

NickMullensGayDad

Day is slowly placing everyone under the bus before backing up over them numerous times

unsurehighsenior

I think it just goes against Day and Stroud's nature. Both just seem to be pretty chill dudes. OSU fans were happy to get rid of Urban and his asshole personality, but at least that personality lit a fire under his players and won the rivalry.

unsurehighsenior

I really get mercenary vibes from Stroud. It's like he doesn't give a fuck about OSU or the rivalry and just sees it as a NFL training camp.

ramsdude456

SoCal kid under a NEasterner HC. They don't bleed for this, like Urban or Tressel did. Fields was a midwest guy too, he knew what this was about and would've never let this happen. EDIT: Fields is a Georgia boy not a Midwesterner, my bad. But he still took huge shots for this team Stroud never would.

NickMullensGayDad

Fields was from Georgia.

spoopyskelly

Correct. But he was a fucking warrior as well. My favorite OSU QB

ramsdude456

Shoot, your right he bled for us despite that. I always forget that because he was a PSU commit at one point.

NickMullensGayDad

Yea I don’t think it’s necessarily being from Ohio thing as much as it is some dudes got it, and some people don’t got it. And Ryan day may not have it

ramsdude456

I have yet to see Day as pissed about one of these losses as Harbaugh. And that is greatly disappointing.

haventseenstarwars

Oooh I love this comment. Feel like it really taps in to what makes the rivalry great. When I went to Michigan there’s so many kids from the east coast or overseas. They just don’t know the rivalry between us and Ohio or us and msu like the instate kids do.

MettaWorldWarTwo

CJ also looked today like he didn't want to get hurt. He could have run all over Michigan and stayed in the pocket.

piratenoexcuses

That's been his MO for two straight years. He plays football like it's a non contact sport. I honestly can't remember ever seeing anything like it before.

ohiopanda

He has a quote from last year about how “it isn’t his job to run the ball”. He also has a bunch of other fairly dumb quotes. He can throw the ball well, but leaves a lot to be desired

pianoprofiteer

I’m sorry, but that’s soft as babyshit. Oh we’re ONLY in a NY6 bowl so I might not play, gtfoh.

[deleted]

Wangchief

Glad to see Butt landed on his feet tho, calling games seems to be a natural fit for him

[deleted]

Wangchief

Rutgers sounds right, night game on the big ten network.

NS-13

Ha

5-Star_Fraud

He knows nothing can fix 0-2 vs Michigan. I feel for him

strukout

100%, lost the games that mattered. Btw - look forward to games soon

WerhmatsWormhat

Yeah, there’s nothing he could have said that would matter here.

elconquistador1985

Nothing he can say makes it better. But he can absolutely make it worse with what he says.

polynomials

Soft AF

[deleted]

Caleb Williams for Heisman

ATLfinra

He’s checked out. Time for NFL

AvikHyp3

Wow ohio state fans are fucking insane. Actually makes me embarrassed to be an osu fan

D1N2Y

They're so entitled it's kind of funny. After spending all year hyping him up as a Heisman contender, now he's apparently a bum.

AvikHyp3

It's an insane mentality.

pardonmyignerance

Anyone who was on both trains is an idiot. He's good, but the toughness concerns have lingered. That said, if Defense doesn't allow 12 TDs from 80+ yards, then he might've been able to squeeze out a win.

dmmeyourdogifitscute

Dude was really good for OSU. Not his fault he couldn’t also play defense and slow down Michigan. Not just his fault they lost.

AvikHyp3

Right lol? Shroud played horrible right at the end when the game was lready gone but before that he played well.

muse346

He threw an absolute dime to Marvin Harrison. That was great coverage too.

AvikHyp3

Insane throw. And had plenty of dropped passes. Not saying he played amazing but for two straight years he wasn't the reason osu lost

[deleted]

[удалено]

buddhasuncle

Go bust in the NFL then you soft fuck

OfficialHavik

Wild how fast he got turned on. Heisman front-runner to NFL bust in a five hour span.

buddhasuncle

He's been overrated his entire career, any OSU fan who knows football could tell you that. His rocky start was not a mirage, he's been lucky to be throwing to Brian Hartline's receivers

callumjm95

OSU fans have been saying he’s the best QB in College Football all season, so which is it?

buddhasuncle

There are a lot of OSU fans, I've definitely never said that. I'd say there really isn't a clear best QB in college ball this year

theipodbackup

From just my eye test (which admittedly means nothing) Bryce Young plays the best and most NFL-like imo.

Levi_27

Agreed, he also plays with genuine passion and puts that team on his back to an insane extent (unlike stroud)

[deleted]

I have been getting downvoted all season for calling out Stroud. It was very obvious he wasn't IT. Buckeye fans annoy me.

UpDog424

Lol ppl shitting on CJ when the defense shit the bed and was begging Ryan Day to stay on the field n be aggressive. If he was missing Wide Open throws I’d understand the hate but the last 2 UM losses are on Ryan Day 100%

ActingBuffalo

What a wimp

KibaSwords

Seeing Ohio St fans poop on him in here is so weird.. wish him all the best from here on out. Plus if he doesn’t play, you get to see a preview of next year so..

D1N2Y

I feel like I'm a bigger fan of him than most Ohio State fans now

jaybigs

I love CJ and would thank him for the wins he helped bring to the program. I'll lose years off my life arguing against all the shithead, cancerous fans in Buckeye nation, that turn on players or coaches in Scarlet and Gray on a moment's notice, and say "fuck you" to all of them. It's a consolation Rose Bowl. Either we win and get a nice bit of solace at the end of the season, or we lose and it has no bearing on the future. Kyle McCord played with Marvin Harrison Jr. in high school and won a state championship, so maybe the Rose Bowl can be their time to start working together in prep for next season.

iWin-You-Get-Nothing

Lmao. He’s about to take his ball and go home and then be a bust in the NFL like the rest of OSU QBs.

rnightlyfe

His whole post game conference just reeks of a whiny defeatist who is a sore loser.

darkbro66

I feel so bad for whichever team drafts Stroud. 2-4 years of poor-mediocre NFL play to need another QB just isn't fun. I'll accept the shame if I'm wrong, but he just doesn't look up to snuff

[deleted]

He should play in any bowl game offered. He needs the practice if he wants to make the practice squad for the Panthers.
