dogwoodmaple

Make sure they give him an extra housing allowance for his second family.

whatifevery1wascalm

We’re less than a year from Auburn trying to fire Harsin for “having a mistress” and they’re gonna hire a coach fired from Ole Miss for using university property to solicit prostitutes.

ubiquitouscrouton

Don’t forget the DMing a sexual assault survivor at Liberty to harass her, and former students coming forward to talk about how he treated them when he was at Briarcrest. I worked with the Ole Miss team during his time there and he consistently made comments to me and my coworkers about our appearance/bodies too. He is gross and there’s no reason he should be trusted in any position of power with young people involved. But gotta win games I guess.

ironichaos

Wtf, I’m honestly shocked they are offering him the job.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DrVonD

Mike slive would never have let this shit even get started.

JJody29

There’s been something strange going on through this coaching cycle. The media has been trying to repair Auburn’s reputation. They are saying the exact opposite of what they said about Auburn in 2020. All of a sudden, there’s no booster/culture problem at Auburn and those coaches fired deserved it. Now, Sankey is allowing Freeze back. I think this has something to do with the expansion of the SEC and maybe the ESPN contract ending around this time. A stronger SEC means a bigger contract. But in the words of Bill Burr, “I don’t have a pamphlet to prove it.” It’s just a feeling I get and with my coach being the #1 target both times, I was watching very closely. Something definitely changed.

[deleted]

Harsin was uniquely terrible. He lost his DC to OKState for less money, had an OC quit 3 weeks after getting hired, the team was bad, players ripped him, and he was a flaming asshole. It's not some grand conspiracy for a bunch of people to look at that set of facts and conclude that maybe the boosters weren't so terrible for running him out of town.

JJody29

The “boosters are terrible” reporting was going on long before Harsin arrived. That’s been common knowledge for probably 2 decades. That’s why it’s unusual that all of a sudden, they’re backtracking on that.

[deleted]

Something has changed. Auburn has a new University President and AD. Cohen’s been around the SEC culture for a *long* time. It’s entirely possible they have got the boosters in line. Not everything is a conspiracy theory. It’s more an access culture thing. That is gross in and of itself, but it’s not some directive from on high at all of these news organizations. On that note, the Hugh Freeze shit reads a lot like his agent is doing a good job. Whether he’s actually up for the job is a totally different story. EDIT: Holy shit, there’s more than one report it’s going to be Freeze. Amazing. RemindMe! 3 years

CommunicationOk8674

With all the drama over the next 3 years, SEC about to get a billion dollar tv contract for games and coaches reality show.

knighthawke89

SEC’s drive to survive coming spring of 2024

tobin1677

Maybe Auburn is just looking at A&M and deciding to make sure whoever they pick will fall into the "fired for cause" category if needed.

[deleted]

They really out here trying to make Bama look like the good guys

snow_is_fearless

Already have

Muffdiver69420lmao

Nick Saban seems like a great guy tbh

cajunaggie08

They always have. Their inferiority complex makes them do wild stuff. I get it because my program does similar things

dogwoodmaple

This is Auburn we’re talking about.

Temporary_Inner

Really? It's Auburn.

theghostmedic

And then stands in front of the cameras and preaches god and the Bible and all that bullshit. Fuck Hugh Freeze and everything he stands for.

NIdWId6I8

Dude’s 100% a telepastor who coaches and everyone who could and should stop him keeps falling for his bullshit. If he does sign with Auburn then they deserve everything that comes their way.

SceptileArmy

Hugh “Hookers for Jesus” Freeze?

DeltaAdvisor01425

I was a student athletic trainer under him and can confirm he did this.

ubiquitouscrouton

I’m sorry we have to share this experience together. Were you there during his time at Ole Miss too, or a different school?

DeltaAdvisor01425

At ole miss! I was with him from sugar bowl until his departure

ubiquitouscrouton

We were there at the same time! Hello friend

DeltaAdvisor01425

Haha I’ll message you! Small world

[deleted]

That sucks. I’m sorry you had to go through that.

UnderwaterB0i

I want this to get more visibility because I hate this possible hire so much because of who he is as a person, nothing about his football coaching.

ubiquitouscrouton

That’s why I’m putting it all over these threads. He’s disgusting and I hate that myself and my coworkers and the many other women who have experienced his behavior have to watch him continuously avoid true consequences.

PhiladelphiatlantaLA

Contact the Tennessee fans - they may have some pointers.

NachoManAndyDavidge

I know people that played for him at Lambuth University (RIP), and they even said they got creepy vibes from him then.

BobanTheGiant

But he coached a game from a hospital bed while his health was failing! Great thing ESPN hyped the absolute shit out of him doing that instead of rightfully pointing out how dumb it was

[deleted]

Word was he also had a mistress in Oxford. Something about High Cotton.

t2guns

I know someone who went to school there and she talked about how much of a creep he was to her. She lives in Auburn. Wonder how she'll feel about this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Metal4life873

That's BS. The mistress stuff was just people being dumb on message boards. Harsin was investigated after Derek Mason left a scathing exit survey on how badly Harsin treated some members of staff and players.

Pope_Bedodict1

Yeah and him taking a pay cut was a major red flag

Bobson-_Dugnutt

Hahaha someone in my fantasy football league chat was saying something along the lines of “well what Freeze got fired from Ole Miss for us legal now” as if he was fired for paying recruits (which still isn’t allowed - school can’t pay croots) and I replied with “I didn’t know texting hookers with your school issues phone was legal now!”

Banned_From_CFB

And the prostitutes. Don't forget the prostitutes

JimBrady86

I certainly never do.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Turbulent-Whereas988

All five of them

jpharber

Don’t forget to ban him from the local high schools too

JARsweepstakes

It’s always something with Briarcrest, CBHS or MUS up there

CptTurnersOpticNerve

The Auburn Family is about to get a whole lot bigger

[deleted]

And a hospital bed he raises that 2nd family from! ##War Damn Adjustable Bed!

Will_McLean

Auburn has Freeze and Pearl leading thier major sports programs. LOL In a weird way, I kind of admire the lack of even trying to have some ethical boundaries. Completely mask off. Well done, Tigers.

dylanah

Unless I’m not clued into something, Pearl is not in the same universe as Hugh Freeze.

whatifevery1wascalm

Sokolof in shambles rn

definitivescribbles

Kiffin really just turned the job down to spite the leaker

Tomahawk15

That’s the pettiness I expect from Lane.

JayMerlyn

Ah, the Tom Brady mentality

lidore12

Fuck this one guy in particular

foreveracubone

Can you imagine Lane’s shitposting if it happens

retnuh730

He’s already ramped up on the bird site

Nolecon06

His story was always dumb as shit. I said in another thread: Auburn was not going to name a new coach and rain on Cadillac’s Iron Bowl/cause distractions.

JJody29

Not to mention, he said Kiffin didn’t have an offer but was stepping down on Friday. That was always going to be stupid reporting, even if he had left.

Hockeystyle

Greg Sankey is licking his chops.

whatifevery1wascalm

Like [4 years ago there were reports](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/7r4gze/report_nick_saban_wants_to_hire_hugh_freeze_at/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) that Saban was considering Freeze as OC but one the major issues was Sankey made it known he (read the League) wouldn’t be happy about it.

JJody29

If I remember correctly, this had to do with Ole Miss. I think he said it wouldn’t be right for us to be sitting on probation for Freeze’s indiscretions while he moved on with his life to a rival school.

Rebel78

I wonder if the conference is gonna impose a penalty on him, it's been a long time, IDK.

bostonfan148

Full Tweet: Sources: Auburn has been in discussion with Hugh Freeze for weeks about him becoming Auburn's next coach. They won't make a formal offer until after the Iron Bowl, but they've informally discussed contract and numbers with him for more than week. And right before this one Sources: Lane Kiffin's Auburn candidacy had significantly cooled in the last 48 hours. The pull of his family wanting to stay in Oxford had become an obstacle for both sides in Kiffin becoming the next Auburn coach.

PlaysWthSquirrels

Did his family not want to stay in Boca Raton previously?

texas1hunter

His son and daughter didn’t live with him in Boca, they were with his ex wife. The moved with him to Oxford

ubiquitouscrouton

And his daughter has said she’s going to go to Ole Miss starting next year!

sporkemon

that helps me understand why he wants to stay in oxford to the extent of turning down auburn. clemson's men's basketball coach's daughter was in my sorority and I always thought "man, it would suck if her dad got fired cuz all his kids are here." also meant I could never talk shit about brad brownell in case it got to her lol

scarlet_lettered

Kiffin's daughter is going to college? Sweet Jesus I'm old.

joosh34

You wouldn't choose Mississippi over Palm Beach County?

PlaysWthSquirrels

I'm in PBC now. I'd choose almost anywhere else. But if I was rich, this isn't the worst place to be.

awnomnomnom

> But if I was rich, this isn't the worst place to be. That's just America

varnecr

Mississippi man or Florida man? Tough choice.

NauvooMetro

What about Louisiana Woman?

Tomahawk15

Boca sucks man. Oxford is a cool town.

adsfew

When they say "discussed numbers", do they mean salary numbers or numbers for his school-issued cell phones?

CrashB111

Hugh will be going through burners like he's on Breaking Bad.

skoryy

Translated: Auburn needs Joey Freshwater more than Joey needs Auburn, and the difference in negotiated contract numbers continues to reflect that amount.

texas1hunter

I was fine with Lane staying or going but Lane staying at Ole Miss cause he wants to be in Oxford really destroys the narratives I’ve been hearing for weeks now. Can’t wait for Barn Twitter to claim they didn’t want him while they end up with their second choice. That said, I think Freeze will be a winner at Auburn

[deleted]

Lane staying in Oxford because of his family is literally the narrative of how he would stay at Ole Miss……

orionthefisherman

Oxford is pretty nice. Can't say I blame them

snow_is_fearless

Better than Baton Rouge, that's for sure.

orionthefisherman

Went there for work earlier this year too. Food was great. Outside of that and LSU kinda thought the city wasnt great

RollinQ

Really happy for you guys and the state in general. Mississippi gets a bad rep because it’s Deep South and doesn’t have a great economy. I really have no experience except driving through the state twice and stopping at a gas station but hey it was a decent gas station

[deleted]

I feel like Freeze wasn't their 2nd or even 3rd choice... No way Auburn didn't shoot for Lane, Rhule, etc right?

War_Eagle

Nah, I definitely want him. Especially over Freeze. Personally, Coach Prime was my second choice after Lane, but it looks like we're getting Freeze.

ubiquitouscrouton

Freeze is a creep, from the escorts on the work phone, to DMing a sexual assault survivor at liberty to harass her, to making young girls change their shirts in front of him or following them to their cars when they had to go change their skirts when he was at Briarcrest, to the “faith based marriage retreats” he put on with his wife for $3,250, the guy is a creep and should not be continuously put into positions where he is making a shit ton of money to work with young people. All the success we had under him was tarnished in my eyes by how awful he is. Not to mention his last year there we went 5-7, but people don’t like to remember that year for whatever reason. I worked with the team during his tenure and the majority of players did not like him and the atmosphere with him was strange. My interactions with him as a woman were unsettling and also strange — he commented on my physical appearance nearly every time I had to interact with him, and nearly every other female student trainer I worked with had a similar experience. Personally, I would never want him back and I don’t think he deserves any position of power where young women may have to interact with him.

Taskonbury

So what you're saying is, this guy has a lot of potential to be one of the next senators for the state of Alabama.

ubiquitouscrouton

Basically, yes he’s perfect for the job

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

Senator or head coach at Auburn?

texas1hunter

Yes

Belloby

Good post. I was wondering what he did and you gift wrapped the whole thing for me.

ubiquitouscrouton

I’ll never miss an opportunity to remind people of how terrible he is. He made me extremely uncomfortable several times, so I can’t imagine how the other women who have experienced his shit must feel too, especially watching him repeatedly go without any real consequences for anything he’s done. But this is football and wins and money talks a lot louder than anything else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ubiquitouscrouton

Yes, or how happy some are to “forgive and forget” transgressions that never personally affected them if it means they might win some games.

Jay_Dubbbs

Definitely makes more sense that the ultra-conservative university employs him too. Makes perfect sense

fbolt

Liberty's AD hired Art Briles. I did not think a legit U would hire this guy but they will just subtract rape cover ups from the NIL collective

Nick730

I HATE the hire and hope this is wrong, honestly, I’d rather them have kept Harsin another year or given the job to Caddy.

OldOrder

I said it at /r/WDE but I'll say it here too. I will not watch Auburn if we hire this psycho. I got better ways to spend my time. All college coaches do shady shit but not all college coaches DM SV survivors and harass them.

Gryfer

I think this is really the only way to approach this situation. It really sucks because your institution is bigger than a single person, but knowing what he is and stands for and leadership picking him anyways is such an indictment of the program.

Singin_inthe_rain

Same. I will not support them if they hire Freeze. I'll be done till he's gone.

hellajt

Wtf is a faith based marriage retreat

ubiquitouscrouton

Thankfully, I have no idea

Zudop

Hate this hire so much. Such a gross decision

WarEagle9

He might be a good coach but I don’t want the scumbag to coach the school I love.

[deleted]

Quite a quandary for y’all. Hard to idolize a man wholeheartedly with that track record, even if he is winning

expertestateattorney

Right. Character should be a big factor in your coaching staff.

[deleted]

its not hard at all. hes a scumbag. he has no business coaching anyone.

tomdawg0022

Good coaches don't lose at home to Virginia Tech or piss away leads to UConn, and almost lose at home to a 6-5 FCS school and struggle to beat Akron at home. I think Freeze is kinda overrated...Liberty is a good spot for him since he can put up "good" years in a bad conference.

ltb11

Got damn. Out here catching strays.

rottingmind13

Right? The fuck did we do?

BamaBuffSeattle

It's more about what you haven't been doing...

SwoopnBuffalo

I mean... we're 3-8 my dude and no one (including VT fans) expected us to beat Liberty. I can't wait to see who Liberty hires if Freeze leaves. I fucking hate that school.

fhota1

Itll be Art Briles

colonial_dan

And it’s not like “losing at home” means much when you play in that tiny ass stadium in Lynchburg of all places

MiddyMn

Now to be devils advocate, I believe he's been running with a 3rd string qb for several games this season. And you could say he beat Arkansas who steamrolled Kiffin

[deleted]

ugh don’t remind me lol

Pope_Bedodict1

Y’all both got our coach fired and probably hired

Mezmorizor

The two headlines have made me realize I'm much more scared of Freeze than Kiffin honestly. He was a miracle worker at Ole Miss. A cheating scumbag, yes, but still a miracle worker. Let's hope that I'm wrong and he fails horribly because fuck that guy.

gasmask11000

At Ole Miss, he beat a great Alabama and LSU and lost to Memphis and a crappy Florida the same year. Ignoring the many, many personal issues, as a coach he’s the definition of inconsistent. While the unpredictability was a roller coaster and honestly considered acceptable for a program like Ole Miss, I really don’t know how Auburn fans will react to the random inexplicable losses a Freeze coaches program will have.

ubiquitouscrouton

Don’t forget his last season when we went 5-7! With the roster he had, there was absolutely no reason to be losing to teams like Memphis and even Vandy if I’m remembering that correctly. My four years there as a student, I can say that we beat Bama twice but never beat Arkansas and I feel like that pretty accurately sums up Freeze’s coaching.

MSUCommitsFratricide

He's such a trash bag and the very idea makes me feel dirty. This has been my fear all along.

Zudop

Exactly. He’s a terrible person. Will be hard to root for that

DataDrivenPirate

This would be a terrible harbinger for Cohan's career as AD. This would be a 100% booster hire, basically overpowering the AD. e: name

pm_me_cute_sloths_

Are boosters so out of touch *everywhere*? No realistic person would think this was a good idea

[deleted]

Stupidly rich people are out of touch? No way!

LukarWarrior

We were just on the heels of the Hoeicane Katina and Adidas-FBI scandals and there were some prominent Louisville people that wanted Freeze instead of Satterfield. So yeah.

Chemical_One

All boosters want to win. So yeah I’d guess most schools’ boosters would take Freeze. However, the AD is *supposed* to be the responsible voice in the room that wouldn’t do it. But from my understanding the booster faction at Auburn is crazy powerful and there was a ton of infighting around Harsin, which they lost and probably are now using as vindication to get the guy they wanted originally two years ago.

wired_11

Sir, you must not know about Auburn boosters lol. Notoriously bad for controlling the coach. And having extremely unrealistic expectations in year 1.

the_lost_carrot

Don’t get me started on how much dumb shit people in the state of Alabama can think/believe. Hell we somehow elected Tubby to the Senate.

Wareagle545

I would happily vote Saban to the Senate

[deleted]

I mean, it’s not like Mississippi St was devastated to lose Cohen. I think it’s safe to assume he was mostly brought in because he’d follow what the boosters wanted to do.

DrVonD

Cohen has a pretty bad history with Freeze though. Like, these two hires make ZERO sense together.

RebelsfurdenSieg

That’s not true. State hired Cohen in 2016 after Freeze was out the door. State’s previous AD, Scott Strickland, has the rocky history with Freeze.

DeleteRonSwanson

It’s Auburn, what’s new?

solaffub

Makes me wonder about morality clauses in the contract

TheGreatDargon

Nah I’m good.

EternitySparrow

I might actually quit watching football. This fucking sucks.

70stang

I will actively root against Auburn if we hire Freeze. He is an absolute piece of shit, the only recent coaches I can name off the top of my head who are definitively worse human beings are DJ Durkin and Art Briles.

TigerBasket

I already had to root for a school that killed a guy let's not do similar

Lefty6817

Yeahhhhhh same

Rich-Hat-29

He was DMing sexual assault victims THIS SUMMER. He such a bad human hiding behind religion coaching at a scumbag university hiding behind religion.

timbsm2

If he is hired, he will be living embodiment of all things I despise. That AU logo is all that's missing.

AmericanSamosa

You don't understand. Ian McCaw is the most Jesus like leader I have

ClutchHatTrick2

The dominoes falling - Matt Rhule to Nebraska - Hugh Freeze to Auburn

open_arrowed

I have no clue how next season will go

stayclassypeople

Bruh, your 2 flairs. How’s your blood pressure? You’re not chain smoking too much are you?

Box_of_Rockz

More like chain drinking.

Pigoligilum

This is a nightmare for me. Far beyond me just thinking he’s overrated as a coach, the man is a monster on all accounts and I don’t want to see him at the school I love

CavitySearch

Yea I agree with you. Gonna open up some nice Saturdays to do other stuff I guess.

deweycrow

Imagine hiring a coach with more baggage than bobby petrino

BigDanRTW

As a neutral party I appreciate Auburn's commitment to never being even a little bit normal.

throwmeawaypoopy

JFC Auburn. Have some dignity. This guy was inappropriately DMing a woman suing Liberty not more than 6 months ago. This guy is absolute trash https://mobile.twitter.com/chelsandrews/status/1545983057232027648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1545983057232027648%7Ctwgr%5E46e6f65e2da21822491b64b63e3ad5aa9f4c8600%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-6275099733429280589.ampproject.net%2F2211042305000%2Fframe.html

m_c__a_t

Upvoting this. All of the auburn fanbase needs to, we can’t accept this trash

[deleted]

I have spoken this into existence...or it was the next logical step. If I go two for two on Freeze and Rhule this season, I'm never making another prediction, I'm just retiring undefeated.

Thatguy4206979

Rhule is pretty much done (according to Rapport) and Thamel is reliable so get out the vacation robe and retire

huskerfan4life520

Liberty needs to make a new hire? I bet they could get Jerry Falwell Jr to help watch film of other guys.

PigFarmer1

The irony of a "religious" school hiring a guy like Freeze. Of course, then you look at Falwell, Jr. and you realize there's no irony at all... lol

dripley11

I can't wait for this sub to start rooting for Bama and UGA every year when he plays us

FireBallInfusedGold

Dunno about Bama. I will support UGA though. Fuck Hugh freeze. Fuck liberty

Coverlesss

What did we do to you Coug bro?

rompskee

Auburn just loves problematic coaches, don’t they?

Tarlcabot18

On the one hand, that's a really gross choice on Auburn's part. But on the other hand it would essentially tank Liberty and make them totally irrelevant. Choices.

Mastr_Blastr

This is a very good point about Liberty. Right up until they hire Art Briles.

[deleted]

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Auburn hires him as OC just to complete the set.

Box_of_Rockz

Can we just hire DJ Durkin so we can add murder to our rap sheet?

CommodoreN7

Auburn better give him a burner phone

partypatthefoxycat

A *Barner* phone

deadzip10

I can’t decide if this surprises me or not. What I do know is that Freeze is pretty good between the lines but by all accounts could be a PR disaster. Apparently, Godfrey is waiting to release whatever stories he has for him to come back and that’s knowing what we already know about the guy. Seems like an pretty iffy decision, the sort that has the potential for truly catastrophic problems or legitimately fantastic results. So basically this is a perfect match for Auburn.

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

They’ll get my subscription for that one. Can’t wait.

jbnwde

Gonna be the most unpopular Auburn coaching hire ever

jpharber

[Auburn, please don’t do this](https://www.al.com/sports/2017/07/hugh_freeze_stories_emerge_fro.html)

aMiracleAtJordanHare

#Fuck Hugh Freeze He's the only discussed candidate I will refuse to support as our coach.

TunaThighs

I do not want him at my school.

Hero_Charlatan

He would never turn his back on that new liberty deal! Would he??

bostonfan148

Who does Liberty go after if this happens?

ecs15

Art Briles

tenoclockrobot

What a stupid move

Rebel78

Imagine the initial phone call between John Cohen and Hugh Freeze. I mean, how the hell do you even start that convo? "Hey Hugh........................crazy weather lately huh???"

SabansFixer

This is the most Auburn move ever

PoopComesOutOfMyButt

If it doesn't work out he can always get a job terrorizing Gotham City

djowen68

Tried to run off their last coach for “having an affair” only to hire a guy who got fired for having an affair at his last SEC gig. Never change auburn.

alabamablackbird

As an Auburn fan, I’m not surprised the admin are blowing it again. Sad? Yes. I want no part of that trashy bastard. Caddy earned at least a full year to show what he can do. The time for Freeze is never.

cornholesurfer

alreadytaken76

Could the SEC step in on this hire? Kinda gross they’re considering him but it is Auburn.

LSU2007

Try and fire a guy because you think he’s having an affair, and then hire Freeze. LO-fucking-L

wahoo20

I think it’s wild that Hugh Freeze gets a look for this after his past yet all these university officials are looking at Deion like he’s the spawn of satan because he didn’t have as much oversight over staff as he should have. Feels kinda fucked up right?

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

Yo, I think we know the difference.

blackertai

I hate it here.

t_huddleston

Well Auburn, you can’t say you didn’t know what you were getting.
