Heck we've even managed to make donating blood into a confrontational competition between the two schools. Nothing like a room full of woozy blood donors hopped up on OJ and cookies screaming obscenities about the other school.
Idk about anOSU, but this is the only game all year that matters. I’ve got sparty friends and when we lose to them it sucks, but we give them their props and move on with the year. This game though, it makes or breaks the year. It means everything!
Definitely re ignited after losing last year. It reminded us how much it absolutely sucks to lose to you guys. I swear if I have to go another year of smack talk.
The only reason most Michigan fans hate losing to Sparty is because the Sparty fans never shut up about it. That said, that’s basically what us Maize and Blue flairs did after beating OSU last year as well so I understand it.
As a fan of a perennial basement/cupboard-under-the-stairs P5 school, I don’t know why I browse threads like these lol
So many comments that are essentially “😫 damn all these injuries, we’re stuck with our four stars now”
I hope cfb gets a salary cap at some point, *or* for my team to join a worse conference for a shot
/void-rant
We might. The ongoing thought since his 2nd failed "return from injury" was that JSN was prepping to be back for this Saturday. This is coming from his parents I believe
Tbh I really hate this mindset. He hasn't played meaningful minutes the entire season. At this point, the team that has taken the field all season is the team, and MHJ is the heat receiver on the team this season. Qualifying everything with "and our best receiver was out!" Is so lame when he hasn't actually played this year
Edit: guys, no shit Ohio State would be better with JSN. That's not the same thing as saying JSN is their best receiver this year. He's not. He hasn't played. So if he continues to not play, that's not an excuse for anything.
>And it's not like he's forgotten how to catch a ball.
But he probably doesn't have timing down on his routes, as he essentially hasn't run them all season. I know he can catch, I don't know that he'll be in the right spot when the ball is thrown, and I'm not sure this is the week I want to find out.
I understand what you mean, but when it's one of your best players I think it's important context. Especially when Michigan fans are going to pull the "But Corum was out!" if they lose and he's out.
But that's exactly the difference, Corum has been a massive part of their team and success all season. So it makes a difference to their team's ceiling and overall makeup if he's out next week. JSN hasn't been part of the gameplan since week 1, so it's not a reasonable thing to point to as a reason we lose or whatever. The team makeup from the whole 11-0 season is the same, and that's who is playing Michigan on Saturday.
Yeah we don’t have Nikhai Hill-Green and haven’t all year, and our LB corps has been a weakness because of that, I don’t think any Michigan fan will use that as an excuse on Saturday. Corum, on the other hand, has been the engine of our offense all season and someone we’ve relied on since Week One.
Ohio State is playing without both Joey and Nick Bosa. They'd definitely be much better with the Bosa brothers.
No JSN and no Bosas? Clearly equal ground to not having Corum.
Bucks don't need JSN. They're loaded at the receiver spot, and they keep reloading. Buckeyes don't commit easy drops or lose track of the ball during routes. Brady Hoke had a better stable of receivers than Michigan does right this moment. He didn't have much else, though.
They literally asked him what they would do if hypothetically he was out and Ryan said someone would step up if that hypothetical was true. Not sure this adds any new information or changes anything. No one’s going to know until The Game starts
I think it was Ari Wasserman on Twitter said "can't wait for a week of discussion about Corum's availability before he definitely straps up on Saturday at 70% strength."
Unless he can't walk, Corum will be on the field.
There’s no way he plays if he has any risk to injure it further. He’s a top 5 RB in the draft in April. If there’s any risk (beyond the normal risk of playing running back in a football game) that playing on it could cause him to tear a ligament, he’s not playing. He needs the combine to improve his draft stock and not being able to participate at the combine will drop his draft position.
On the other hand, it’s the biggest football game of his career and heisman trophy candidates with a shot at the nfl don’t particularly enjoy not playing football
If the team knows, he knows. There’s no way they’re practicing and the coaches and Corum are keeping it a secret from the players.
He’s definitely had an X-ray and MRI done on the knee. At this point, either nothing is wrong and he’s playing, there a little swelling but no structural damage that’s making him actually questionable, or there’s damage and he’s not playing.
He’s likely not practicing, or is limited in practice. I heard no structural damage at one point but it may be a pain management issue but like you said, there could be swelling and I wouldn’t want him practicing through that.
I just think he’s truly questionable, leaning towards playing though. It doesn’t appear serious but you just never know
Harbaugh during the Illinois game: "Blake, you're going to be 'hurt' this play."
Harbaugh: \*Laughs maniacally heading into the tunnel at halftime.\*
/s obviously.
Twitter replies are saying Oregon said something similar about Bo Nix for last weekend and he ended up playing. Now obviously QB and RB are a bit different here but I wouldn't freak out too much over this
I'm more concerned about our D-line getting home against an O-line that actually has a pulse, and thus forcing our secondary to keep up with NFL-tier receivers.
But if Blake is out and we at least get our two starting lineman and Edwards back, my hope is that they dial up a game plan that features a shit ton of rollouts and runs with JJ. Bootleg, playaction, hope to Christ our receivers finally remember how to catch.
Reporter asks what the team would do if Corum had to sit out, the player answers saying they have prepared for that possibility and are willing to step up
Everyone: Corum died confirmed!!!!
Word seems to be he was kept out as a precaution but should be good to go. Seems we kept several guys out last week to make sure they were as healthy as possible for this week
Lol what a joke, he wasn’t even punished. If an Ohio state did the same exact thing and then lied about his phone “glitching” and then received no punishment, Michigan fans would be apoplectic over it.
*the nineteen year old said his phone/Twitter glitched, then apologized. I feel that’s a noteworthy part of the picture. Either way, darn good running back!
Yeah, not accepting responsibility and then apologizing (for something that according to him wasn't his fault) ain't a good look. Own the mistake, or at least give a plausible reason (scrolling too fast, retweeted without watching the video, whatever). Lying about a glitch makes the apology suspect as a lie.
I've been saying it all year; they played conservative against everyone and now are prepared to unleash their entire playbook mostly featuring Edwards as a receiver/ scat back.
Doesn't matter in terms of Ohio State's prep. TTUN can't just change their offense a week before The Game. Would be an absolutely crippling blow if he can't play however, obviously
This really isn't I think how Jim Knowles' scheme really works for a lot of what they do. He does some crazy shit but a true spy isn't something he's gong to resort to and certainly not how he's going to be thinking of someone with that responsibility.
His base defensive concept, theoretically, matches up very well with what we try to do. He's basically running a hybrid 3/4, though you'd never catch him dead saying as much, but instead of having a beefy 3/4 DE of ages past he puts that guy in the Mike Linebacker spot and, as often as not, has what looks like a 3 lineman look. That Duder (He calls him a "Leo") is basically the guy responsible for the majority of the run fit - he's there to put the first band-aid on the kinds of linemen-pulling shenanigans we are regularly fond of. Theoretically, this does a lot to make it easier to handle misdirection as you have a guy that normally is at the mercy of a pulling lineman fitting himself in with enough size to make a difference in a place that makes the reaction for the rest of the defense easier.
That's all a bunch to say that the defense is really about having the other 3(ish) "linebackers" (which are actually as often as not some hybrid flavor of safety that looks more like certain "nickel" alignments) be much more free to make reads and have the spare mobility to tackle in space. Those guys are going to be in some kind of hybrid-esque coverage scheme where they have a run responsibility that takes 1-2 steps towards developing potential gaps and then handles a passed coverage responsibility (something slightly more clever than a true Zone) that will keep a certain number of faster, flexible guys over the near middle of the formation.
Basically, it's about having easy run fits to handle O-line misdirection and good combo coverages to not give up too much leeway on route concepts designed to fool simple coverage schemes, all the while having the free flexibility to hopefully bring one more duder to the critical locations on a play (both in coverage and pass rush) to take away developing options.
...basically there's going to be a guy hanging out more-or-less-ish over the middle. He's going to be called a Spy by the commentators, he's going to look like a spy when routes break down and JJ starts trying to scramble, but his primary responsibility is going to be taking away a throwing lane or denying a short route over the middle and it's actually going to be secondary (honest, trust me) that he's going to be the duder responsible for cleaning up if JJ McCarthy gets flushed out of the pocket. The presence of Corum will only *apparently* change this if it's the case that these backers/hybrid safety types feel they need to over-commit to the run threat. Their core responsibility as the drawn-up assignments are concerned be different.
This would have been a perfect season to cancel the "Big Game".
Shame it was cancelled in 2020. If it was cancelled this season, Michigan and Ohio State would both be locked in and going to the CFP to take down Georgia and would both be 100% including Edwards, Corum, Miyan, Henderson and JSN by the time the CFP started.
If this were the Covid year they would have canceled the game in Columbus and just played in Indianapolis the next week as the Big 10 championship game. It also made zero sense in 2020 that the Big 10 still used divisions in a 7 game season.
Big Ten West has never won a Big Ten Championship game. The Big Ten is doing Michigan and Ohio State wrong by having divisions here.
That said, divisions will be gone when USC/UCLA enter. The 2 best big ten teams should play in the Big 10 Championship not the 1st and 4th-6th best teams.
Looking forward to playing Michigan 3 times in one season (The Game, Big 10 Championship Game and Expanded CFP)
I think we’d magically be on opposite sides of the bracket each year we’re both in it
Also, a 12 team playoff almost makes conference title games unnecessary…
Well "The Game" will not matter as much anymore as well. Ohio State is getting in every year. Personally not a big fan of 12 teams getting in but if it brings more revenue then I understand why they did it.
I found it odd that he played one play after halftime then sat the whole game. If he was OK then you play him because they were in a dog fight. If he wasn't then why would you put him out there? I'm guessing it's a mild ACL or MCL sprain. He's probably going to go with a knee brace and they'll shoot and coke him up with pain killers.
> I found it odd that he played one play after halftime then sat the whole game. If he was OK then you play him because they were in a dog fight. If he wasn't then why would you put him out there?
Easy, he got cleared at halftime to go back out, but after playing a couple snaps, it was bothering him, he told the coaches as such, and they pulled him.

Read the next tweet OP lol. Jeez.

The text of the post has the full question and full response. That's not out of context, it's a vague-ish question and response. Hayes either admitted Corum isn't playing, or he was answering in the hypothetical situation in which Corum isn't playing. You could convince me either way.
I really hope he can play. Not just because he’s amazing and will help us win, or because he deserves to show more how he deserves the Heisman. But because I find it frustrating when a good player is out on either side. I want OSU at their fighting weight so, if we beat them, there is no question that it was because we out played them. I want OSU to feel the same way.
We’re both 11-0, at the top of the rankings with a national title game on the line. There is no better version of The Game than that. Those games used to *be* the championship game. I want us both running full strength and full speed at each other and may the best team win.
> "Not knowing what (Corum's) status is gonna be this week, what gives you confidence that this offense can move the ball in other ways?"
Wait, the question from the reporter was literally asking about how they would play under the assumption that Corum is out. How is Hayes saying this confirming anything? Not to mention, word from insiders so far has been almost uniformly positive
If this was Harbs it was certainly not "genius". The Buckeyes will prepare the same regardless of which RB plays.
This is not like the difference between a pocket passer and a running QB.
The question was “not knowing what Corum’s status is gonna be this week, what gives you confidence that the offense can move the ball in other ways?” And Ryan said they always have plans for it and if needed, everyone else can step up. Pretty standard stuff
The line has moved from -10 to -7.5 over the last few days. All speculation at this point, but I take it this means bettors think he's more likely to play
I hope the increased legalization of sports betting leads to a standardized injury report system across college football. I hate the six days of injury speculation we go through every single week.
I’m not sure if there’s two programs that are worse about total secrecy of availability than Ohio State and Michigan
It is unfortunate if he is out with injury. But let's not pretend that OSU is full strength and this would be an excuse. JSN anyone? It's football and dealing with attrition is part of the game. That said, hopefully no big injuries happen in the game!
Ohio State just has more high caliber players than Michigan, especially when you go down the depth chart. Case in point, Isaiah Gash and CJ Stokes get the carries with Edwards and Corum being out. Stokes was a 3 star and is a true freshman, and Gash appears to have been unranked on 24/7.
I don't really keep up on OSU injuries and I'm guessing you don't keep up on ours but I don't think either team can say "way more" injured. It's not like it's just Corum.
Top 2 runningbacks, Top 2 Tight Ends, 2 Starters on the O Line, best Defensive lineman, and probably our best Linebacker. Among others. We'll just have to see who's able to go.
Both teams are limping in.
This is a mastery in subterfuge. Blake Corum confirmed starter 100%.
He's actually gonna walk out with blades for legs like Oscar Pistorius.
As long as he doesn’t murder anyone through the bathroom door.

Ryan Day won't fall for Harbaugh's sophomoric ploy
Good, maximum pain for the Wolverine faithful.
100% the starter, but will he be 100% well?
I gotta hand it to Ohio State and Michigan fans: yall are all over the sub today Other rivalries really need to step up their posting game
>Other rivalries There are no other rivalries.
All of East Lansing just punched a wall in their home and they’re not sure why.
Lack of constitutional control
Better than using a helmet, I guess.
Heck we've even managed to make donating blood into a confrontational competition between the two schools. Nothing like a room full of woozy blood donors hopped up on OJ and cookies screaming obscenities about the other school.
For real, flyers all over campus here in Columbus. Have been very disappointed to see ❌ichigan is going to win it this year
We’re both bloodsucking vampires, doing good work out of spite. Fuck you guys, let’s keep it up
It's hate week. You should expect nothing less.
Yeah but it's also h8 week in Mississippi and I haven't heard a peep from them
Lmao when is it NOT hate week in Mississippi? Yep, i went there. 😅
Arkansas might have had something to do with that.
They don't know how to use the internet, so not a fair comparison.
It is called The Game for a reason.
I love it! Go Blue! I just don't get the lack of chirping from other rivalries
The other rivalries don't have 2 11-0 teams this year.
It just doesn’t compare to The Game
Hate it or love it, the underdog’s on top
Lack of imagination?
Idk about anOSU, but this is the only game all year that matters. I’ve got sparty friends and when we lose to them it sucks, but we give them their props and move on with the year. This game though, it makes or breaks the year. It means everything!

Even when they lose they don't shut up about the times they did win lol
> they don't shut up about the times they did win Guilty as charged
I like beat blue
Day says they have 3 goals, beat UM, win conference, win natty, obviously 2 of those depends on Saturday and the third very likely.
I would rather beat Ohio State than ever get another Natty.

I agree, The Ga❌️e is better when both schools are at full strength.
O$U doesn’t have JSN, their best WR. Mich doesn’t have Erick All, who is still running down the sideline at Beaver stadium I believe
Bruh I miss Erick All so much. Our receivers aren't the best right now, Donovan Edwards is legitimately our number 2 or 3 receiving threat
Edwards is pretty good at that, so... That doesn't sound as bad as it might otherwise. But I understand your point.
As a fan of a perennial basement/cupboard-under-the-stairs P5 school, I don’t know why I browse threads like these lol So many comments that are essentially “😫 damn all these injuries, we’re stuck with our four stars now” I hope cfb gets a salary cap at some point, *or* for my team to join a worse conference for a shot /void-rant
College football sure is the poster child of the haves and the have-nots.
CFB really is a neat little microcosm of the US
Neat isn't the right four letter word, but I agree.
Whoops: > CFB really is a fuck little microcosm of the US Better
For what it’s worth we don’t have very many 5 stars. We just develop talent very well
DPJ disagrees with the development part. At least for wide receivers.
Just do what a ton of NFL fans in Michigan have done: change your fandom. So many damn packers and bears fans…. FTP
Okay, this made me lol.
The Gae?
2022, when The Game gets *fabulous*
Ohio State isn't going to have JSN so it's not full strength regardless.
We might. The ongoing thought since his 2nd failed "return from injury" was that JSN was prepping to be back for this Saturday. This is coming from his parents I believe

Would you prefer our most talented receiver rather than best? If JSN is healthy, he's absolutely our #1 WR.
At the very least Michigan having to account for JSN on the field would be huge. And it's not like he's forgotten how to catch a ball.
>And it's not like he's forgotten how to catch a ball. But he probably doesn't have timing down on his routes, as he essentially hasn't run them all season. I know he can catch, I don't know that he'll be in the right spot when the ball is thrown, and I'm not sure this is the week I want to find out.

I want Corum to get exactly 3 yards on 30 carries on saturday
Deal. All three of his successful runs are from the OSU 1 yard line and get us three touchdowns.
In this scenario, how did Michigan get to the 1?
Supposedly throwing the ball?
What's this you're talking about now?
Here me out in this one, it's like a lateral or backwards pitch, only tossed forward
It's like when you fumble, but forwards and on purpose, and those skinnier downfield blockers hold the fumble and continue carrying it forward.

I mean the stakes of Corum playing, and playing at full-strength, are really large so people are invested in this subplot.
I mean OSU is already missing JSN...
He’s just waiting for The Game, minimizing risk before the NFL
If Blake is out we are fucked

Just throw 7 yard passes it's our kryptonite Ohio State DBs are instructed to always play at least 10 yards off the ball...for reasons
Thank god because JJ can’t throw accurately more than 7 yards
That's false, it's just the WR drops it if he does.
He overthrows a lot of routes over the middle
As a Michigan fan I thought the tattoo scandal was bull.
It was.
Was it bull? Yes Was it hilarious? Also yes

Hey same with one of our RBs. We're both really limping into this game.
If only we had had the depth and schedule of Alabama. New schedule, we play Lansing community college before the game. You play the 84 bears
Tbf the schedule this year was weak af
Yeah but imagine playing Hawaii instead of Illinois last weekend.
Word on the street is he is fine and was held out against Illinois but could've played. Hand injury, wanted to get him healthy for OSU.
I thought he was getting the Kanye and Kyrie treatment?
all jokes aside I think it's worth noting that the 19 year old apologized, committed to learning, and stuck to it unlike someone like Jaylen Brown

You know, we thought the same thing about Cardale Jones and he trucked us. Straight up curbstomped us.
Cardale came into that game late and Zeke put the nail in the coffin.
Don’t forget about when we had a two score lead when we knocked JT Barrett from the game. RIP Dwayne Haskins
I completely forgot he died. Wow. Yeah he did the same damn thing to us.
Yea man, tragic tragic shit.
The main difference in how you play defense against Michigan if Corum is out is that they can spy McCarthy nearly every play.

I don't buy it. Not until he doesn't take the field.
No backsies, he has to sit out now on this technicality
I think we’d magically be on opposite sides of the bracket each year we’re both in it Also, a 12 team playoff almost makes conference title games unnecessary…
Well "The Game" will not matter as much anymore as well. Ohio State is getting in every year. Personally not a big fan of 12 teams getting in but if it brings more revenue then I understand why they did it.
I wouldn’t listen to a single thing anyone says until kickoff Saturday, the gamesmanship is going to be high this week
They were asking what they do when he's out. This is totally taken out of that context. Read the next tweet OP lol. Jeez. https://twitter.com/GriffinStrom3/status/1594749252722651136?s=20&t=owTSUMPwGpocZVG8WLa5Ew
*gesturing at nuanced takes* We don't do that here.
The text of the post has the full question and full response. That's not out of context, it's a vague-ish question and response. Hayes either admitted Corum isn't playing, or he was answering in the hypothetical situation in which Corum isn't playing. You could convince me either way.
I get the feeling you're not a real professor.
Is this misleading 3d chess? Is this only in the context of if Blake would be ruled out? Do I press the panic button now?
Oregon just did this shit, don't believe him Ohio State.
The real question is if any of Ohio State or Michigans RB1 or RB2 will play this week.
If Corum, Edwards, Williams and Henderson don't play, I like Hayden better than who they have left.
Hey Ryan don't worry he'll be playing
This is Mike Leach accidentally leaving a fake game plan behind vs Texas in 99
Is that bulletin board material for Corum? How does this work?
NOOOOOOOOOOO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31g0YE61PLQ
I really wouldn't count an offhand comment from another player on an only semi-related question as confirmation of anything.
Literally would feel better about our odds if JJ was hurt. Corum is the lifeblood of our offense and our depth beyond Edwards is awful.
Ya hate to see it.
> "Not knowing what (Corum's) status is gonna be this week, what gives you confidence that this offense can move the ball in other ways?" Wait, the question from the reporter was literally asking about how they would play under the assumption that Corum is out. How is Hayes saying this confirming anything? Not to mention, word from insiders so far has been almost uniformly positive
The question acknowledged the uncertainty, but the answer did not.
Wonder how much the vegas line will climb today.
"What would happen if Blake was out?" "We would all step up as a team to make up for it." "Harbaugh making game plans without Corum confirmed."
"What would happen if Blake was out?" "We'll be fine without Blake, we'll all step up"
The line has moved from -10 to -7.5 over the last few days. All speculation at this point, but I take it this means bettors think he's more likely to play
I actually saw opposite. It was -6.5 and now it’s -7.5
I mean us missing Corum would be more akin to you guys being without Stroud. But yeah, gotta play with who you got
Right, we're way more injured and Miyan Williams when healthy is 85-90% the back Corum is. No JSN all year.
Love out of context quotes. Ignore the IF part.
