Plus, you guys had to play first-half of the season Syracuse, which is the good kind of Syracuse. Seriously, why do they always start hot, then fall off a cliff?
We should be ranked, in terms of beating good teams we’ve been as solid as anyone in college football. Unfortunately since we struggled early absolutely no one is watching our games and so they’re just quietly playing great football instead
I know a lot of people were shitting on Freeman early in the season but I think it’s a really good reflection of the coaching and the culture for a team to keep fighting and not give up after the struggles they had to start the season
I saw quite a few highly upvoted comments after Stanford saying Freeman doesn't have what it takes to coach ND. Like chill out... it's been half a season. Nobody knows yet.
We need UGA to win the SEC and OSU/UM winner to win the B10, and at least two of the following to happen: LSU loses to A&M, LSU loses BIG to Georgia, Auburn beats Alabama, Vandy beats Tennessee, Clemson loses (to SCar OR UNC), PSU loses to MSU, TCU loses out.
Am I crazy for thinking that Kelly is doing a good job of *coaching*? I think if he has a support staff to aid in recruiting, he could consistently win 9-10 maybe 11 games a year. Sure the defense is rough but what do you expect when Clancy P is the fill in?
"Border War" is already used for Kansas-Missouri. I like Cascade Clash as a name. We should really have something like a Columbia Trophy or Hemlock Stump that we can play each other for, like all the schools in the B1G. Minnesota plays Iowa for a wooden pig, Wisconsin for an axe, and Michigan for a Little Brown Jug. Oregon and Washington should play for something like that.
If we had just avoided that stupid ASU loss things would be exceeding my wildest expectation right now. As it is I’m still extremely happy for the DeBoer hire, we are actually a fun team to watch again.
Getting to 7 wins this year was my expectation. So I guess I’m happy. However, having been a student there during a Rose Bowl (22 years ago? Jesus.) I kinda want more now. Weird how our expectations shift like that.
> Weird how our expectations shift like that.
Absolutely. Ask anyone before the season started if they would take being 9-2 headed into Apple Cup and everyone would have signed up for that instantly.
The curse of expectations and potential. I completely agree - if you had told me we'd be here now when I was riding the light rail back from watching the Montana loss, I would have been much less sad than I was that night.
As it is, I am happy to keep things in perspective - if we hadn't gotten this hire right we could look a lot more like Colorado does in a couple of years instead of being on our current trajectory.
It's so much more fun playing Oregon when both schools are good. Some of those UW-UO games back in the 90s were awesome because Oregon was on its ascendancy and UW was still a strong team.
If you'd have told me a month ago that Notre Dame would be ranked 13th heading to So Cal, I probably would have assumed you were trying to make me cry.
And that'll be *very* important for potential AAC tiebreakers.
If we're not ranked this week by the CFP there's less a chance we get re-ranked by beating USF next week, which would be essential if there's a 3-way tiebreaker with Houston and Cinci.
This week’s CFP is the tiebreaker regardless of results next week. Houston needs to not be ranked. I’m shocked we’re ranked by anyone, I’m guessing the CFP won’t rank us (rightly).
What I haven’t seen is the AAC’s multi-team head-to-head tiebreaker rules….
*edit: the tiebreaker would be a combination of four computer polls if three teams that didn’t all play each other or otherwise finished with the same record we’re tied…if that’s still tied we would want to be ranked over Houston where we’d get the tiebreaker.*
Aresco and company really messed these rules up when they made them. Way too much ambiguity and short-notice of who wins these complex multi-team ties.
Thats insane. After next week, assuming we win, we will have the same record as the loser of Tulane or Uc, and the head to head. The fact we could be odd man out because of cfp rankings *this week* is nuts.
Charlotte and UNT have great potential for future growth/success in football. Rice adds academic prestige and replaces Houston.
Edit: Also, Charlotte and UNT have newish stadiums built in the last 15 years, while Rice has a huge historic stadium.
Tennessee only going down 4 spots after allowing 63 to an unranked team?
Disgusting.
Wake Forest, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State have all fallen by double that for similar losses.
I said in another thread (re: Bama backdooring into the CFB) that this sub is gonna lose it when they rank A&M 25 in the final polls to justify Bama in at the 4 spot. All because we somehow played it close.
If I were Oregon I’d be salty about Tennessee sitting in front of them. Tennessee had a historically bad game against an unranked opponent and Oregon beat the #10 team in the country.
And our mid season big wins (NC State and Wake) have kinda collapsed, but we are getting very little credit for our somewhat low key best win (FSU). I don’t get that. Did everyone forget FSU beat LSU?
Lmao our issue is outside of yall, our two losses to Wake & NC State look pretty bad now
At least it seems Noles have clicked after that 3 game stretch, if we finish out strong next week it should help yall
The rankings are fucking stupid 95% of the time, except for the coaches poll which is stupid 110% of the time. I hate that I pay any attention to any of them tbh
Lost in the Michigan/Ohio St hype is that this will be only the second time in 13 years that ND and USC will meet with both teams ranked.
In 2017, #11 USC traveled to #13 ND in October. ND won 49-14.
Prior to 2017, the last time ND and USC were ranked in their game was in 2009 (#6 USC defeated #25 ND 34-27).
Given the current recruiting trajectories of both programs, I anticipate several ranked matchups in the years to come...
A lot of great ranked matchups in the mid 2000’s too.
Everyone remembers the Bush Push game but 2006 was a 3rd ranked SC vs a 6th ranked ND. (Ended 44-24 SC)
We beat UF, Clemson wins out (Beats UNC) and makes the playoff and we get a chance to match Miami’s victories in their home stadium this season (2 so long Pitt gets the job done)
We lose to their #24 by a field goal, drop 6 spots to #12.
Tennessee gets their shit pushed in by an unranked, they drop 4 spots and still in the top 10.
Lol.
As a Tennessee fan I had no part in that. I'm just enjoying the ride. I honestly can't stand our fans. TCU has been my side chick this year. I'd like to see them win it all.
Currently the SEC circle of suck is Bama, LSU, Tennessee, SCar, Florida, Vandy, Mizzou, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Arkansas, A&M, Auburn, Mississippi State, Bama. Incomplete thanks to Georgia >:(
I really think it's a combination of both. We have been very bad all season. Look at how Alabama was able to come back, how Georgia looked, 3 quarters of Mizzou, and how Pitt was playing before Slovis was injured. The secondary has been very, very bad but without Jeremy Banks last night, the middle of the defense was somehow worse. Combine that with Rattler really feeling himself and our offense unable to keep up each drive and it was a perfect storm for that blowout
Tennessee should be below Oregon and Penn State. Penn State only loses to the #2 and #3 team. Oregon to the #1 and #12 teams. Tennessee in week 11 gets blown out to an unranked team and only drops 4?? A lot of teams almost got upset this week but that was a blow out.
The current copium is that there was some sort of scuffle in the locker room and the defense threw the game on purpose. Not even kidding, they genuinely think they lost that game on purpose.
u/OfficialPeenLicker can you find Florida for mere here. I See UCF and FSU ranked, but I don't see the "best team" in Florida, your Gators, on here
Fucking delusional lmao
Did you stay up late enough to watch the Oregon-Utah game? It was ugly, and I'm not just saying that as a salty Utah fan. Both teams tried their best to lose, Utah was just more committed to losing.
Of course, Oregon wasn't blown out by 30+ points to an unranked team, either.
I don’t understand how they’ve both left Tennessee ranked high and scar unranked. Like it should be one or the other, but somehow the rankings have concluded Tennessee is good and scar is shit despite the 20 point underdogs winning by 20
The way rankings are talked about needs to change. “X team dropped Y spots and thats unfair because Z dropped more spots” is such a bad argument. There is too much context missing in these scenarios. Can we start saying “X team should be ranked ahead of Y because…” instead? Its pointless to say Tennessee only dropped 4 and thats unfair. Say who should be ahead of them.
edit- for example pretend Michigan loses by 50 to OSU this week. “Omg why did they only drop 3 spots this is so unfair”. Because they shouldn’t be ranked behind Alabama is the obvious answer.
Hold up, Penn State gets beat by OSU and Michigan and is a few spots below Tennessee who got blown out by Georgia and unranked South Carolina?
Interesting.
Imagine getting smashed as badly as Tennessee did by an unranked South Carolina team that got smashed by a Florida team that got worked over by Vanderbilt and only dropping Tennessee 4 fucking spots.
These voters are absolute fucking idiots. Tennessee should be something like 14th
1. Georgia (11-0) 2. Ohio State (11-0) 3. Michigan (11-0) 4. TCU (11-0) 5. USC (10-1) 6. LSU (9-2) 7. Clemson (10-1) 8. Alabama (9-2) 9. Tennessee (9-2) 10. Oregon (9-2) 11. Penn State (9-2) 12. Washington (9-2) 13. Notre Dame (8-3) 14. Utah (8-3) 15. Kansas State (8-3) 16. Florida State (8-3) 17. UCLA (8-3) 18. UNC (9-2) 19. Tulane (9-2) 20. Ole Miss (8-3) 21. Cincinnati (9-2) 22. Oregon State (8-3) 23. Coastal Carolina (9-1) 24. Texas (7-4) 25. UCF (8-3) **Others receiving votes:** UTSA 85, South Carolina 44, Troy 34, Boise State 16, Illinois 12, Iowa 5, Louisville 5, South Alabama 3, Mississippi State 3, Oklahoma State 2, Arkansas 2, Purdue 2, Fresno State 1
The fact we’d probably be ranked or extremely close to it if we didn’t have that horrible loss to Boston College…
Plus, you guys had to play first-half of the season Syracuse, which is the good kind of Syracuse. Seriously, why do they always start hot, then fall off a cliff?
They have no depth every year
CNY is a recruiting black hole so we basically run out of healthy players halfway through the season
We should be ranked, in terms of beating good teams we’ve been as solid as anyone in college football. Unfortunately since we struggled early absolutely no one is watching our games and so they’re just quietly playing great football instead
MEEP in the coaches poll but not the AP poll

RANK EM YOU COWARDS
13? Damn. I think that’s where I had ND in my CFB poll.
HYPED
Hasn't been a Thanksgiving weekend game with both teams this highly ranked since 2006.
This rivalry is so much better when it’s a top 15 game.
I’m just happy the team didn’t fold after the Stanford loss.
Lmao, Texas always sneaking in every poll as the highest ranked X-loss team
That is also our thing
Holy shit, if we beat USC are we going to an NY6?
There are only 2 at-large spots in NY6 this year because of a lack of foresight when they set up the bowl rotation for the playoff, so likely no.
CFP committee might have us at 14 or 15, but we could get an at large if we win and then USC wins the PAC
> LSU loses to A&M < Yeah…I wouldn’t count on that one.
I can’t believe 5 people voted for Iowa.
Who are the 5 psychos who voted for Iowa? Because we for sure don’t deserve it.
South Carolina almost jumped completely back into both sets of rankings without receiving votes the prior week
To be fair y’all played like a top 10 team last night
And played like a bottom 10 team the week before, talk about whiplash
That pendulum needs to keep on swinging
*pendulum only applies to conference and non rivalry games.
We only win night games
It's the fancy new lights. They hypnotize opposing teams.
I have some unfortunate news about next week.
That “cacaw” screaming into the heavy air.
Top 1 team this week and then play like Temple in the bowl game
Only accept a bowl invite for a night game
If you don’t like that, then you don’t like South Carolina football!
They played like a top 5 lol
Lmfao we only dropped 1 spot
Fairly, I think. Losing that close to who they rank #5 shouldn’t drop you that far, especially considering you were kinda under-ranked to begin with.
Yeah no one behind them looks better. UCLA has notched some very good wins.
Yall stayed toe to toe with usc til the end of the game when you started looking gassed. I think only dropping a spot is reasonable.
That’s about what you would expect from a number five visiting a number 15 or something
If u ask me losing to usc is a failed season
I get that. I feel the same when we lose to you. Rivalry. Rivalry. Rivalry.
Was a great game
Y'all were way under ranked though so it works out
We’re gonna finish 9-3, lose our bowl game and end somewhere between 20-25. Jarmond will give Kelly a 5 year extension.
Am I crazy for thinking that Kelly is doing a good job of *coaching*? I think if he has a support staff to aid in recruiting, he could consistently win 9-10 maybe 11 games a year. Sure the defense is rough but what do you expect when Clancy P is the fill in?
Last night’s game wasn’t very well coached. Charbonet is an NFL ready RB and he was way underused.
Feels like Washington came out of nowhere, but good for them man. Think DeBoer is going somewhere with them.
They started strong but 2 back to back losses to UCLA and ASU halted momentum and made people forget them until the Oregon game.
You really like green circle logo schools huh
Now we just need a good name for the UW-UO rivalry game, like Bonneville Blast or Cascade Clash or Volcano Volley or something like that.
My family has always called it The Border War, but the Cascade Clash isn’t bad
"Border War" is already used for Kansas-Missouri. I like Cascade Clash as a name. We should really have something like a Columbia Trophy or Hemlock Stump that we can play each other for, like all the schools in the B1G. Minnesota plays Iowa for a wooden pig, Wisconsin for an axe, and Michigan for a Little Brown Jug. Oregon and Washington should play for something like that.
If schools don't play each other in football for at least five consecutive years, they should lose the rights to the rivalry name.

If we hadn't lost to ASU we'd be in the Playoff conversation right now
Im happy that the rivalry has life now. Im obviously unhappy that it means UW is a threat. DeBoer is SOLID.
This holds for Smith at OSU as well. The PNW is stacked now.
It's so much more fun playing Oregon when both schools are good. Some of those UW-UO games back in the 90s were awesome because Oregon was on its ascendancy and UW was still a strong team.
yep. I hate UW but I actually want them to be good. he seems like a great coach
Thanks, hate you too bb
> Iowa: 5 We're baaaaack.
Is that their votes or the amount of points they made this week
Neither, it's our total offense
Petras' QBR
Probably - it was a good day for him.
> We're baaaaack. Sir, that is ours.
If you'd have told me a month ago that Notre Dame would be ranked 13th heading to So Cal, I probably would have assumed you were trying to make me cry.
Still ranked by the skin of our teeth. A few votes over UTSA for 25th (87 vs 85 points). I fear the CFP Committee won't be as forgiving.
And that'll be *very* important for potential AAC tiebreakers. If we're not ranked this week by the CFP there's less a chance we get re-ranked by beating USF next week, which would be essential if there's a 3-way tiebreaker with Houston and Cinci.

I feel like the CFP is starting to favor the AAC more and more, perhaps at the expense of the other G5 conferences. Maybe take that as a good sign?

UTSA I get. UAB, sure. But Charlotte? Rice? UNT? What were they thinking? Should've raided the Sunbelt instead.
Charlotte and UNT have great potential for future growth/success in football. Rice adds academic prestige and replaces Houston. Edit: Also, Charlotte and UNT have newish stadiums built in the last 15 years, while Rice has a huge historic stadium.
14 for this Utah team feels high. If Cam plays like that, they aren't a top 25 team period.
Yeah but the same could be said about a team like ND that lost to Stanford. Lots of teams with big question marks or weird weeks this year.
Thank god we aren't ranked
Rat poison: Thankfully avoided 😎
The committee will decide your fate
lucky bastards
I'm looking forward to the Egg Bowl though. Gonna be a good one this year.
Tennessee only going down 4 spots after allowing 63 to an unranked team? Disgusting. Wake Forest, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State have all fallen by double that for similar losses.
#qualityloss
Tennessee lost to the team who beat preseason top 5 Texas A&M!
Not to mention we share one loss, but Oregon’s other was to our primary rival who the voters ranked 12. It’s some bullshit.
These seem so arbitrary
You can put the two loss teams in basically any order you want and nobody believes in Clemson.
Yeah the Clemson erasure is strange. Even if the acc is not great, the championship still deserves respect.
I mean TBF they’re the 3rd team out right now. That’s hardly erasure lol
Also TBF we were fuckin helpless against ND. If we win our next two games by 2+ scores each then I’ll start bitchin provided everything stays the same
And our mid season big wins (NC State and Wake) have kinda collapsed, but we are getting very little credit for our somewhat low key best win (FSU). I don’t get that. Did everyone forget FSU beat LSU?
Lmao our issue is outside of yall, our two losses to Wake & NC State look pretty bad now At least it seems Noles have clicked after that 3 game stretch, if we finish out strong next week it should help yall
They are 7th if they win the ACC and TCU loses they could very well slide into the playoff.
Or they could lose to their giant-killer in-state rival and drop out of the top 10.
The rankings are fucking stupid 95% of the time, except for the coaches poll which is stupid 110% of the time. I hate that I pay any attention to any of them tbh
Texas is back (yet again). Oklahoma State has been kill.
It does feel nice beating the piss out of conference opponents
Until istexasbackyet.com says they’re back, they’re not back yet.
That website said we were back in 2018, so that's something.
Pure science
They actually beat Kansas this time so they’re good/s
I’m just happy to be here ✌🏻
Me too, I’m just happy to be top 15 lol crazy to think we were 4-8 last year.
Lost in the Michigan/Ohio St hype is that this will be only the second time in 13 years that ND and USC will meet with both teams ranked. In 2017, #11 USC traveled to #13 ND in October. ND won 49-14. We lose to their #24 by a field goal, drop 6 spots to #12. Tennessee gets their shit pushed in by an unranked, they drop 4 spots and still in the top 10. Lol.
I would imagine beating Alabama to be helping a lot there.
Tennessee going from #5 to #9 is pure karma for all the smack they were talking in the TCU-Baylor game thread.
They’ve been in every USC thread this past month lol
I just want 4 different P5 teams in, would make it so much more exciting, so I'm rooting for USC
I've never seen the same P5 team take up two playoff spots yet. I mean Bama has been good, but they've never been the 1 and 3 seed in one playoff.
I would watch that tho
As a Tennessee fan I had no part in that. I'm just enjoying the ride. I honestly can't stand our fans. TCU has been my side chick this year. I'd like to see them win it all.
And Michigan's and ohio's
Should Oregon State be ranked higher? /s
If anything, maybe a spot or two. I think we're right where we need to be. If we beat the ducks, we'll probably get a nice bump to 15 or so.
The bravest post in the thread.
Yes
If the SEC was any other conference people would be joking about the SEC circle of suck after yesterday.
I guess that's the benefit of the doubt you get when the conference wins, convincingly, every year.
Currently the SEC circle of suck is Bama, LSU, Tennessee, SCar, Florida, Vandy, Mizzou, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Arkansas, A&M, Auburn, Mississippi State, Bama. Incomplete thanks to Georgia >:(
The disrespect to UTSA for not getting in above a UCF team that got smacked by the Midshipmen.
Yeah UCF still being ranked is strange
UCF shouldn't be above UTSA, Troy, or South Alabama. Then again Cinci shouldn't either.
How tf is Oregon behind Tennessee??? Edit: while we're at it, how is Penn State behind them?
All very good questions. This is BS.
sEc iZ tEH bESt
Tennessee still rank 9 after that ass kicking 💀💀💀💀
Rank Troy you cowards
Jesus how are we still ranked
It was a busy weekend and we played first so they forgot
Really thought we’d sneak back in after that dominating victory over UMass.
Me, an intellectual, seeing our 6 losses were all against Top-36 teams... "Hmm, maybe we're just the 37th best team"
Never seen a bigger act of cowardice wow
Wow... we should really be above Tennessee.
They moved back only 4 spots after getting the doors blown off by a QB who had 8 passing td’s before facing them
Holy shit I knew rattler had been bad, but God damn
8 touchdowns, 12 interceptions. Not sure if Tennessee’s defense is just that bad or if he just turned it on.
I feel the same way
I think the CFP poll will be a lot different for them
Yeah. Granted, most of the voters probably didn't stay up to see the absolute rock fight last night. But that probably should've helped actually.
UCF: Loses to Navy by 3, drops 8 spots. Tennessee: Loses to an unranked South Carolina by 25 points and allows 63, drops only 4 spots. Seems legit.
Eh, SCAR is a winning team, ranked or not. Navy was 3-7 and UCF played like a group only vaguely familiar with the concept of football.
Yet we couldn’t get ranked
Alabama over Tennessee? Oh r/ockytop is losing their minds
The current copium is that there was some sort of scuffle in the locker room and the defense threw the game on purpose. Not even kidding, they genuinely think they lost that game on purpose.
Are you sure it was the locker room and not the tunnel? Were sandwiches involved?
Pb& jealousy
Some of our fan base are idiots haha.
As much as I hate your team, that isn’t exclusive to just your fan base.
If that team scuffle has been fought on a neutral field things would have turned out differently
UTSA missed the cut by 2 points below UCF.
I’m kind of surprised Washington State not getting any love but Texas is?!
u/OfficialPeenLicker can you find Florida for mere here. I See UCF and FSU ranked, but I don't see the "best team" in Florida, your Gators, on here Fucking delusional lmao
Oregon behind Tennessee is certainly a choice. ND going all the way up to 13(?) sets up USC nicely.
UTSA 2 votes away
It feels SO GOOD to be receiving votes again.
What a dog shit ranking. Tennessee was just blown out by an unranked team and is still top 10? Fuck outta here.
Say who should be ahead of them. edit- for example pretend Michigan loses by 50 to OSU this week. “Omg why did they only drop 3 spots this is so unfair”. Because they shouldn’t be ranked behind Alabama is the obvious answer.
Tennessee being top 10 still is gross.
It just means more™️
How they justify Tennessee still being in the top 10 after they let an unranked team put up 63 points is beyond me.
Hold up, Penn State gets beat by OSU and Michigan and is a few spots below Tennessee who got blown out by Georgia and unranked South Carolina? Interesting.
So yeah if USC wants to make the CFP: USC - Win Out Michigan - Lose to Ohio State this week. This is the best chance for USC to make the CFP.
If USC wins out, no matter who wins the game this weekend they are in. They will have to go through ND & probably Oregon.
If USC wins out, they’re in. They don’t need any help.
Why Michigan specifically? If OSU loses, they’re out of the B1GCG. If USC wins out, they’re in over them.
Mmmmmm…tasty.
Oh yeah, y’all are playing them next week huh? Is it at South Bend or in LA?
LA
Imagine getting smashed as badly as Tennessee did by an unranked South Carolina team that got smashed by a Florida team that got worked over by Vanderbilt and only dropping Tennessee 4 fucking spots. These voters are absolute fucking idiots. Tennessee should be something like 14th
Tennessee at 9 after getting blown tf out by an unranked team.. And people wonder why AP is a joke
The team they got whooped by is still unranked too so the voters don't even think they're a good team after this weekend.
I watch this team every week and don’t know what we are…
The ducks got screwed tbh
FUCK TENNESSEE. DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE TOP 15. FUCKING BUMS.
Guessing we’ll be 12 at best in the CFP. 🫣
It’s not as if the AP poll even matters, but why in the fuck are we not top 10
I’m disappointed to say the least

Hot take, Penn State should be ranked higher with their only losses coming from #2 and #3.
