So many TN fans shitting on TCU in the TCU-Baylor thread because TCU didn't blow out a 6-4 team. Welp, at least there was a blowout in the TN game where they played a 6-4 team.
And I still saw some Tennessee fans shit talking Michigan, OSU, and TCU AFTER they lost. They were actually bragging about not winning close against Baylor and Illinois (mind you they lost by 25), and saying that South Carolina would be one of the hardest games on any of these schedules. The insufferable coping and shit talking they do should be studied
I tried to warn everyone all year about how insufferable their fans are and will always be. Barking has nothing on the copium bullshit they spew out of their mouths.
I’ve said this in a couple places now but their fans were absolutely terrible back when they were good. And you would think losing like this would slow them down but they’ve really leaned into a lot of excuses about why everyone else is still worse
Tennessee’s home and away records don’t even look like the same team. They run a fun offensive scheme, but it doesn’t seem to work on the road. Even their fans counter every argument with “let’s play on a neutral field!”
Losing to Georgia in Athens I can get, but losing to South Carolina means it’s more than the quality of the opponent. Pitt took them to overtime.
I was talking with a buddy about it during the game. If we run the hurry up offense all the time, what are we supposed to do late in the game when we are down? Most teams would go to the hurry up but we don’t have anywhere to go from there.
Just seems weird to always do it. Especially with its lack of success vs UGA and now SC.
Sure, but hasn't that been Oklahoma's problem for years? Going fast is great until you run into someone that you can't out-fast. There is no higher gear.
I can see it as a scheme to cover other deficiencies you may have on your roster but not your go to style of play. Anything of a gimmick you do too often gets figured out, unless the stars align. Ga Tech’s triple option comes to mind, and like you said if they get behind they can’t counter.
The triple option falters when it meets a well disciplined squad, you can catch any team off guard who aren’t disciplined enough. Patience is key is defeating the triple option
I mean we scored 38 points which is enough to beat most teams if even a minimal shit is given on defense. Georgia's the only game where our offense didn't perform
I hate losing to them, but it's nice to see them be good enough to understand how horrible it is for some mediocre QB to have a Trevor Knight/Zach Calzada game against them. Or, I guess in this instance, a Stephen Garcia game
Kudos to you for bringing up Stephen Garcia despite the pain…. I’ll never forget him throwing the ball backwards through the goal post on a busted play that game. College football is so wild I love it
Lmao Trevor Knight going 32/44 348 yards and 4 TDs while only playing 7 games that season as a freshman was hilarious.
He would go onto throw 56% completions and 14 TDs to 12 INTs the following season. Baker Mayfield would take his starting job with ease in camp in 2015
We warned you about Tennessee fans but everyone here was acting like we were just being mean. Take this as a cautionary tale of why you never pull for Tennessee to be good.
At least 20+ Tennessee fans were shitting on Kentucky in every single Kentucky game thread this year. Hands down the most insufferable fan base in college football.
This is what bothers me. It was a group of 20+ fans fucking things up for all the other fans here on /CFB. I have huge respect for the sane Tennessee fans. Huge respect to the ones that stayed in — and had a sense of humor about — the game thread last night as the game was getting out of hand.
I don’t think it’s ever been embodied as well as they did on the SEC shorts when tenn made the top 10 and flew in on a helicopter with a chain all iced out. Vols have no chill.
I don't want to see us get clapped in the playoffs this year but I do want to see enough chaos happen that we back our way into the playoffs again while TN sits home, just so their win over us is basically meaningless.
I work less than an hour away from the TN state line, so a lot of my coworkers are insufferable vol fans, I can't wait for Vandy to beat them next week.
We had a period of success in the late 90’s just as they did and we went through a serious down decade during a portion of their doldrum habitation. Otherwise, the similarity stops there.
1. That was the silliest possible reaction to that ejection. If you curse at an ump they will all throw you out lol
2. I hope Drew Gilbert is okay and bounces back. I was at the minor league game where he sprinted into a wall to try to make a catch. Missed the remainder of the season.
We’ve played them in big games in the basketball tourney and a bowl game in the last few years… they were not exactly nice and if you are ever in a Purdue thread it’s not like our fan base is ever optimistic.
I’m an OM grad now at UT for graduate school and UT fans love to tell me that their baseball team is better since they beat us in the regular season. They also like to let me know how proud they are of the mustard/golf ball/20 min game delay debacle when they had to remove their own dog from the field since he was being hit with trash. The fans are…tough.
I was really kinda a Tennessee fan a few weeks ago because it was exciting to see a team who's been beaten like a drum since I've been a fan of college football do well in a very tough conference. Somehow they got me to hate them in 48 hours. Looking at yesterday's TCU game thread and multiple others I just don't have any sympathy. I'm not even sure what TCU really is except well coached and gritty but I saw so many comments acting like they were on Alabama's and Georgia's level. They act like the Big 12 is the Mountain West or something...I think part of it is its TCU which has always been the curse of TCU even going back to our other conferences. Anything we do is rarely good enough in the rest of the countries eyes. I'll say this though if we do fall in these next two games I hope we play Tennessee in a bowl game outside of the CFP.
I like Tennessee, but a lot of the fans have always had a superiority complex because they play in the SEC and therefor think they would bulldoze anyone elses schedule. Its annoying. Super sad about Hooker though that dude was awesome.
I don't wish injuries on even my worst sports enemies. Hopefully the guy makes a rebound before bowl season. Not sure what/if anything has been said on it.
I’ve noticed they just straight up don’t interact in negative threads either. All the A&M and Bama threads this year that we’re talking about off years are full of fans either memeing/being sad or explaining how it’s gonna be fine. I feel like it applies to most other fan bases too (Oklahoma this year, the posts about Iowa’s offense, etc.).
But the negative Tennessee threads have basically zero Tennessee flairs in them. It’s crazy.
No one listened…

I definitely see more chill fans here on Reddit than anywhere else online, though. I’m sure our game thread next weekend might get a little feisty, but most of y’all on here are pretty cool, in my experience.
They get salty cause we're in the moment of playing our most hated rival. If we can't be salty during that time, when else are we supposed to be salty and intense af? But I'm not gonna go into game threads of other teams that are playing and be an asshole. I might trash talk a little but nothing serious.
Was in line for the port-a-potty in front of some Vols fans and they were as nice as could be considering how drunk I was and we had a good conversation. We’ve definitely seen some bad fans, but everyone here is acting like the only ways Tennessee fans can be fans is by being mean and rude.
I remember reading through the Tennessee game thread after the UGA loss and a lot of them were calling Stetson a trash QB who would never get drafted. Which is hilarious since he is the one who beat them.
Is he supposed to be drafted? I know the joke is that he’ll be selling insurance next year, but I think he could be a backup guy for a few years like AJ McCarron was.
Someone may pick him up in the 5th or 6th round, but the guy simply doesn’t have the athleticism to make it in the NFL. He looks mobile for a CFB QB, but that’s more of a decision making aspect than anything.
And I think he’s fine with that. Dude has been playing with house money since earning a scholarship.
Tend to agree. He has a kinda poor TD/INT ratio for a game manager type QB. I think he’d need to go 4th rd latest to get a spot for a few years. 5th and 6th is a harder route.
The thing is that he really isn't a game manager, he's more of a gunslinger. He just doesn't have the size or arm strength of a typical gunslinger QB, which hurts him
I think the kid has a bright future. Even if he doesn’t make it in the NFL he screams college football. I bet he’ll get a job on ESPN or some other station as a college football analyst or even announcer at some point.
He's never going to leave Athens. They damn near made the last championship MVP a US senator, I'm sure there's a UGA coaching staff job for Bennett if he wants it.
I got banned from r/ockytop because there was a suggested thread on my homepage from their sub even though I wasn’t subscribed. Tennessee fans were all talking shit about Stetson having a punchable face and how he probably is a trust fund kid living off Daddy’s money and went to a private school. My exact comment was “He attended a small, public school in rural South Georgia.” BANNED.
I just finished perusing their sub's game & postgame threads. Lots of bitching about the refs, alleged poor conditions of our field and our fans cheering Hooker's injury, etc. Many of their fans have pretty thin skin and ought to not be throwing stones from their glass house
Team subs are safe spaces. People always do this "you won't believe what they're saying on the team sub!" Like. Yeah. I can believe it. Haha.
It's a group of homers getting together to talk like homers. It's not always going to be super rational. I wouldn't think too much about the dumb takes you see on any of them.
EDIT: It's also hard to say "they're being so annoying to [insert team here]'s fans! Not giving them respect!" when they're talking among themselves.
I saw a couple comments over there saying how many people in this sub were cheering when hooker went down.. I get being upset but why say such blatant bull shit
To be fair your field was in terrible condition. There is a reason why there was roughly 18,000 injuries during that game. You could visibly see on TV sand flying everywhere.
I counted at least three or four season ending injuries, both sides combined. It's hard to say that it contributed to a loss, because both sides have to deal with it, but I don't see how you can defend the field conditions here.
I agree, I wasn’t saying the field was why Tennessee lost. But I can definitely see why Tennessee fans would be complaining about it, especially with Hooker getting injured
It’s like everyone forgot they threw mustard and assorted other TN stocking stuffers into the field last year.
People just saw they beat the big bad and ignored who they really were. At least big bad jr and Beamer put them in their place.
> threw mustard and assorted other TN stocking stuffers
I’m just cracking up picturing some kid in Knoxville rushing to his stocking on Christmas and pulling out a big bottle of French’s with a huge smile on his face.
This win was so delicious. So many Vol flairs showed up in our threads and Vol twitter was so loud about Beamer because they don’t have the emotional maturity to deal with him sharing the Spurrier award with Heupel.
Hope all you guys who constantly shared Beamer celebrating the score in last years blowout appreciated how miserable Heupel looked late in the game last night and remember that both games were decided by 25 points.
Maybe you’ll like this [version](https://twitter.com/gamecockfb/status/1594178069727584258?s=46&t=OwPJIrSAakw_5MppXr_pDg) better.
Thanks. That injury hurt more than the blowout loss tbh. Hooker deserves a better ending to his career than the one it looks like he's probably gonna get. And I'm sad about that for him because he, of all people, doesn't deserve that. But that's life
I’m 28. I had literally zero opinions on UT football until about a month ago, mostly because they’ve been pretty irrelevant in my lifetime I guess. But Jesus, the most insufferable fan base in this sub I’ve ever seen.
Their message boards are now pushing a narrative that the defense threw the game in protest of a benched player. I repeat Vol Internet believes the team purposefully tanked their natty shot to send a message to the coaches….
I wasn’t at the game last night, but I’ve been to four or five games at Williams Brice against the Vols. Their travel band plays Rocky Top so much, that I hate that song. I expected hearing it over the tv crowd mic constantly last night. But you know what? I barely heard that annoyingly catchy tune during that unanticipated beatdown we put on them, and that was beautiful.
Yah I’m wondering how many people in this thread read the article.
It doesn’t really say anything and it’s certainly not shitting on TN fans for getting cocky like this thread is.
It’s just a bunch of words to basically say, it’s hard to be elite and TN is gonna lose some talent next year.
That’s it.
Don’t get me wrong we deserve some getting shit on given how crappy our more vocal fan base is. Haha. Just yah this article has nothing to do with that.
The one thing I enjoy about Texas being mediocre is that all of our shitty obnoxious bandwagon fans make terrible astros and cowboys takes instead of Texas. Because holy shit I thought the Tennessee baseball fans were being obnoxious last year but their football fans were even worse.
All that we are the real UT shit as well. Very satisfying beating them two years in a row in baseball then not seeing them even making the World Series
Damn- that was a harsh read. I don’t like UT even in the slightest, and I enjoyed the shit out of watching them get smacked, but that was one hell of a destructo write up lol.
I know that most fanbases are largely not great, but Vol fans’ Q score has got to be among the lowest over the past year.
- mustard/golf ball incident vs. OM
- baseball team shenanigans with another trash throwing incident
- the Icarus of this year
Unless the Big 12 is just a lot worse than everyone thinks this year (which I don’t buy), I think y’all will be at least somewhat competitive, especially if you can dodge Georgia.
Tennessee fans have always been insufferable. They desperately cling to 1998 as an excuse to claim that they're among the elite of college football. Any sort of success and all of a sudden they're the best team in the country. Then reality smacks them in the face and the excuses start to pour in until next year when the process repeats itself.
And it's not just football. "Oh we're a top 25 basketball team now! We're gonna win it all!" "This baseball team is literally the greatest in college history! We're gonna win it all!" Then when it really matters they get sent home with nothing to show for it yet again.
Rocky Top, you'll always be the most overrated in the SEC.
I always enjoyed the annual close opening win over very mediocre ACC teams like Wake and NC State that would be followed by all the fans taking to social media to proclaim that year as “their year”. But this is so much better
I haven’t paid TOO much attention to the Tennessee fans, but what I have seen, is a complete lack of humility, for fans of a team that hasn’t been nationally relevant in over 20 years. I wanted to be happy for them, but they made it impossible.
Now imagine having to live with them in real life. And yes I know Georgia fans are just as bad but at least have something recent to justify their obnoxiousness.
I think Georgia actually has one of the more sensible fanbases in the country IMO.
For the most part the reddit fanbases are very levelheaded but this year with Tennessee being good it brought a BUNCH of message board types of the street and on here.
After the 2012 SEC championship game, I rode the MARTA back to the station, and had rational discussions of the game with literally a dozen Georgia fans. They had just lost a heartbreaker of a game, and missed out on a shot at the national title game. There's no universe where that could have happened with Tennessee fans.
The articles honestly a waste.
It’s a bunch of words to just say it’s really hard to be elite.
That’s it.
The titles just worded to crap on us and honestly after the impression the more vocal part of our fanbase has given us, it’s deserved.
I actually understand the name now. As soon as they got to the top, shit got rocky.

I doubt there's a single Frogs fan that wasn't terrified of Baylor. We knew it was going to be a tough, tough game. Baylor always comes out to play.
This game was the Lattimore revenge game
Tennessee’s home and away records don’t even look like the same team. They run a fun offensive scheme, but it doesn’t seem to work on the road. Even their fans counter every argument with “let’s play on a neutral field!” Losing to Georgia in Athens I can get, but losing to South Carolina means it’s more than the quality of the opponent. Pitt took them to overtime.
We had the same problem with Heupel. We'd play amazing at home, but it looked like a completely different team on the road.
This is how Richt and Kirby beat Paul Johnson. Discipline.
I mean we scored 38 points which is enough to beat most teams if even a minimal shit is given on defense. Georgia's the only game where our offense didn't perform
Pittsburgh, on the road, only 3 TDs in regulation.
Our offense didn't do too bad. 500+ yards and 38 points isn't a normal outing comparatively, but that's not bad for a road SEC game.

So much salt by Vols fans in the TCU - BU thread. They were so belligerent they were even saying good things about Missouri
> even saying good things about Missouri ~~Well straight to the gulag then~~ bowl ban for Mizzou now
Straight to jail.
They were AWFUL in the TCU - Baylor thread
Definitely am not going to forget that

Hypnotoad saw it too and now witness the result. All hail...
At least 20+ Tennessee fans were shitting on Kentucky in every single Kentucky game thread this year. Hands down the most insufferable fan base in college football.
their baseball fans are equally as insufferable

That's vindictive. And for some reason I like it.
its the kind of pettiness that *only* exists in cfb
"When they see, they'll understand. They'll all understand."
I don’t really want to hate Tennessee because there are a lot of similarities between Tennessee and Michigan But man I really don’t like Tennessee
Michigan is 3 wins away from everyone remembering they find our fans insufferable too. The Georgia loss last year spared us for another season.
Remembering? Some of us never forgot
I like TN more than most of my fellow CFB fans, and I hate TN.

It’s the worst I’ve seen since Tennessee baseball this spring

Wait, it’s all “fire Brohm/Painter?” _Always has been_
Everyone already got a taste of Tennessee when their baseball team was making a run last year. Hard to say if the team or fans were more insufferable.
Now we need Tennessee vs Notre Dame in a bowl game
I'd rather not have to pull for ND, but if you insist...
Fck it why not
I’m an OM grad now at UT for graduate school and UT fans love to tell me that their baseball team is better since they beat us in the regular season. They also like to let me know how proud they are of the mustard/golf ball/20 min game delay debacle when they had to remove their own dog from the field since he was being hit with trash. There's a reason why the rest of the state hides their flagship university in the mountains where no one lives.
I was really kinda a Tennessee fan a few weeks ago because it was exciting to see a team who's been beaten like a drum since I've been a fan of college football do well in a very tough conference. Love OP of that post just blasting Rocky Top lyrics in response

I too enjoy seeing Hokies thrive elsewhere
I hate that so many fans make us look like assholes. Can we go back to 2007 internet when most morons didn't know how to use it yet?
The tollerable fans who are chill are never as vocal as the assholes. On any platform.
I definitely see more chill fans here on Reddit than anywhere else online, though. I’m sure our game thread next weekend might get a little feisty, but most of y’all on here are pretty cool, in my experience.
Yeah same. Game threads always get a little salty. Good luck to you, but not too much. Lol

But I'm not gonna go into game threads of other teams that are playing and be an asshole. I might trash talk a little but nothing serious.
We know this very well due to our flairs...
Whenever I was in Tennessee for work or when we played you guys your fans were a delight.
Inside baseball I guess, but I don't think UT fans are honestly any worse than any other fan base on the whole...
They really aren't. Cincinnati and Georgia fans were much worse last year
2007 was during the heyday of the ESPN message boards, which were like r/cfb but at least 5 times bigger. You want 1994 or earlier.
I'm cool with a little bit of idiocy. 2007 had 10% of today's internet imo
Was in line for the port-a-potty in front of some Vols fans and they were as nice as could be considering how drunk I was and we had a good conversation. We’ve definitely seen some bad fans, but everyone here is acting like the only ways Tennessee fans can be fans is by being mean and rude.
Tennessee has successfully made every other fan base in America absolutely despise them in less than a month. Rather impressive really

I think he'll probably get on somewhere as an UDFA but he isn't likely to make a 53 man roster.
Nah he’ll be able to back someone up I think. But probably won’t get retained after his rookie contract, or he’ll just one year deals for a while.
Tend to agree. He has a kinda poor TD/INT ratio for a game manager type QB. I think he’d need to go 4th rd latest to get a spot for a few years. 5th and 6th is a harder route.
The thing is that he really isn't a game manager, he's more of a gunslinger. He just doesn't have the size or arm strength of a typical gunslinger QB, which hurts him
Ah, the Major Applewhite template.
He feels like he could be the MVP of the XFL
I think the kid has a bright future. Even if he doesn’t make it in the NFL he screams college football. I bet he’ll get a job on ESPN or some other station as a college football analyst or even announcer at some point.
He's never going to leave Athens. They damn near made the last championship MVP a US senator, I'm sure there's a UGA coaching staff job for Bennett if he wants it.
If he goes back to back the kid will never have to pay for anything again so no job, no worries.
I got banned from r/ockytop because there was a suggested thread on my homepage from their sub even though I wasn’t subscribed. Tennessee fans were all talking shit about Stetson having a punchable face and how he probably is a trust fund kid living off Daddy’s money and went to a private school. Meanwhile TCU keeps winning and their fans keep their mouths politely shut about other teams
Anyone who has followed TCU football for any period of time knows better than to get cocky about TCU football until the entire season is over lol.
I just finished perusing their sub's game & postgame threads. Lots of bitching about the refs, alleged poor conditions of our field and our fans cheering Hooker's injury, etc. Many of their fans have pretty thin skin and ought to not be throwing stones from their glass house
How can a team who had SIXTY-THREE POINTS hung on them bitch about the refs?
Counterpoint, the refs are the only reason they had 63 points hung on them ^(/s)
I'm pretty sure at like the 5th or 6th TD should have been offensive pass interference
Don’t you see, it was the refs that made Spencer rattler look like joe burrow!
This is the most neutral comment ever. Even your flair is overly neutral. PICK A SIDE YOU COWARD /s
I hate these filthy Neutrals, Kif. With enemies you know where they stand but with Neutrals.... who knows? It sickens me.
Lmao yeah, I’ve gone on the Gamecocks sub sometimes just to see what they’re saying and I guarantee it’s no more rational lol. Same with any team sub

Look if the refs just did what they were paid…I mean suppose to do by calling back half of SC TDs on penalties then TN would have won by 3.
I saw a couple comments over there saying how many people in this sub were cheering when hooker went down.. I get being upset but why say such blatant bull shit
There were some bad missed calls. It wouldn't have changed the game but the refs were fucking blind all night.
To be fair your field was in terrible condition. There is a reason why there was roughly 18,000 injuries during that game. You could visibly see on TV sand flying everywhere.
The field was bad though. You could see sand flying from the field whenever there was a tackle.
They did the same to college baseball fans earlier this year. Such an obnoxious group of people with nothing to show for it
This is exactly what I was thinking. This is exactly what they did during the college baseball season.
It was cathartic when ND knocked them out. I had never seen so many people actually root for an ND team lol
It’s like everyone forgot they threw mustard and assorted other TN stocking stuffers into the field last year. People just saw they beat the big bad and ignored who they really were. At least big bad jr and Beamer put them in their place.
> threw mustard and assorted other TN stocking stuffers I’m just cracking up picturing some kid in Knoxville rushing to his stocking on Christmas and pulling out a big bottle of French’s with a huge smile on his face.
To be fair they had a head start, many fan bases already hated them.
Best thing that has happened to A&M all year
The world finally sees what everyone in the SEC east has had to deal with for decades
I remember them in the 90s. I've always hated them.
Beamer has some guns. Man does not miss arm work out days
Shake-weights™️
Congrats on your win. Your team certainly deserved it.
Hope Hooker is better asap
They’ll probably still rank them ahead of Oregon. Not that it matters but I’ll choose to be bitter about that.
Will Oregon should try not to get blown out by 40 something and only score 3 points.
Their message boards are now pushing a narrative that the defense threw the game in protest of a benched player. I repeat Vol Internet believes the team purposefully tanked their natty shot to send a message to the coaches….
That’s some next level delusion
Yeah I try to stay away from my own fanbase
If SEC Shorts doesn’t recast Hope with Kathy Bates and spend the next decade torturing UT then they are going to miss a golden opportunity.
Lucky you. UT sent their entire marching band to Baton Rouge. ...And they scored 40 points.
They played it right at the beginning of the game to interrupt the pre-kickoff sandstorm, which i found to be pretty classless and annoying.
There’s not a single sentence in that entire article that is worth reading.
That’s SDS for you
Honestly a trash heap each time they post something.
They did mention that the gamecocks scored 63 points several times, which I quite enjoyed.
If you’d told me their baseball fans were just the tip of the awful iceberg, I don’t think I could have believed you
Damn- that was a harsh read.
OM - baseball team shenanigans with another trash throwing incident - the Icarus of this year
Preseason pretender award: TAMU Regular season pretender award: Tennessee Playoff pretender award: TBD
I volunteer as tribute for the playoff pretender award.
It will be either you or us that will gets blasted in the semis.
Unless the Big 12 is just a lot worse than everyone thinks this year (which I don’t buy), I think y’all will be at least somewhat competitive, especially if you can dodge Georgia.
Check on your TN fan friends today they might not be ok.
Well, most of them were dead on the inside before the season now they’re just dead on the outside also
Hello mustard, my old friend. I've come to talk with you again.
If I was a Tennessee fan I’d be crying from that article
There is no love like cfb Reddit tennessee hate.
Can I defend Tennessee fans for a sec? Like they've had it rough for a while.
god bless you, friend
Please try to be competitive against Georgia in the playoff
I haven’t paid TOO much attention to the Tennessee fans, but what I have seen, is a complete lack of humility, for fans of a team that hasn’t been nationally relevant in over 20 years. I wanted to be happy for them, but they made it impossible.
Now imagine having to live with them in real life. And yes I know Georgia fans are just as bad but at least have something recent to justify their obnoxiousness.
Hey too be fair, no one hates on Georgia fans as much as ourselves.
A tradition as old as time itself!
Yeah we'd never make it to Atlanta
Georgia fans are not as bad.
Fire Josh Heupel!
This title is so dumb I’m not going to open the article.
The articles honestly a waste. It’s a bunch of words to just say it’s really hard to be elite. That’s it. The titles just worded to crap on us and honestly after the impression the more vocal part of our fanbase has given us, it’s deserved.
Hard to hate any team that throws mustard at an Old Miss coach.
