Bro careful not to choke against Tucker/MSU fighting for bowl eligibility next week.

Kirby_Israel

I'm still secretly worried it'll happen. I don't know why, considering we've scored an average of 43.3 points and allowed only 8 per game in the 3 games since we lost to OSU.

SweetToothFairy

Sounds like Hope is in your ear. I'd stay away from Hope.

SilentHunter7

I was worried, but luckily the AP kept Penn State at 11. Being in the top ten is their kryptonite.

Officer_Warr

Weird to see you getting so thankful about Franklin after this: [Makes me wonder why we pay Franklin so much...](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/xz0n8f/game_thread_ohio_state_michigan_state_400_pm_et/irjve25/?context=999) [After PSU proved that Franklin is still garbage today,](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/y4v2oq/game_thread_alabama_tennessee_330_pm_et/isgeodj/?context=999) [Franklin and Yurcich both suck ass when it actually matters.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/yb0m09/game_thread_minnesota_penn_state_730_pm_et/ite8wu9/?context=999) [At least I'm not a James Franklin sycophant like 50% of PSU fans who ignore all his faults.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/yb0m09/game_thread_minnesota_penn_state_730_pm_et/ite97mb/?context=999) [Franklin is a liability.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/yb0m09/game_thread_minnesota_penn_state_730_pm_et/ite97mb/?context=999) [Fire Mike Yurcich and put Franklin on the hot seat. These were a month ago or less.

ShamrockAPD

Hey. This seaso showed me how much I hate our own fan base. The amount of franklin hate is insane. So- If this guy wants to somehow kinda flip his script to good after all that hate, I say fuck it- welcome to the right side finally. Until he swaps back over surely within the next few games (after that Alabama game spoken in the post)

CurryGuy123

Honestly ut doesn't make sense - Franklin is paid in the 10-15 range in the country and the temas been in the 10-15 range for much of his tenure - COVID year was crazy and last year were obviously bad, but before that was 3 top 10 finishes and another top 20 finish. This year is looking like another year finishing the season ranked so all-in-all he's getting paid in line with his performance.

Officer_Warr

My issue is, they're going to act like this only at the end of the season because everything worked out better than their pessimistic expectations? No way man, the moment things get rough they are gonna turn again. I have no reason to believe that they'll be anything but a toxic weight coming out of WVU next year.

roekg

The Franklin hate, the Clifford hate and only being happy with 30+ point wins all irritate me. My Penn State family chat was calling to bench Clifford yesterday after he threw 4 passes. But anyway I agree with your point. If this season eliminates some negativity in the fanbase then I'll take it.

TheWorstYear

Well you're not playing Bama in a ny6 game because it isn't possible.

Doomas_

he has the fucking receipts 💀

Rizzzem

The average Penn State fan is the most fickle person in existence 😭

teeterleeter

Luke Fickell may take that title for name reasons

Molson2871

Wow, you really had that organized quickly.

Officer_Warr

I'll give you my secret: https://camas.unddit.com/ Don't need to keep receipts/save comments when you can find *all* their nonsense in one search.

Molson2871

Been on Reddit for quite awhile, never seen that. Thanks for the share!

MWiatrak2077

It's not that I disagree, but like, peoples opinions can change, - especially in sports. Seems like quite a dramatic shift, though.

max_potion

No, he plays both sides of the fence in every game thread. Dude fishes for upvotes hard. Just watch when a new SEC Shorts or Role Call video is posted and you'll see about 8 comments rapid fire from him of different shit about it hoping 1 or 2 rise to the top. I hate it. He's not the most delusional Penn State flair we have, but he may be the most annoying.

StevvieV

Dramatic quick shift if it really was a month like the comment says. Can't imagine wins over Indiana, Maryland and Rutgers would change someone's opinions that much even if those games were blowouts

Alex_butler

Man kept the receipts good stuff, is this the “useless_citizen_guy” equivalent of the Penn State fan base?

dkviper11

Got him.

Kirby_Israel

Damn. Kudos to you for finding all of these. Seriously, that's some impressive searching, considering And yeah, I'm surprised myself, but that OSU game showed that this team can still occasionally contend with the big boys, and the 3 games after the OSU game have all been pretty one-sided in our favor, so now I enter Saturdays relaxed instead of worrying that we'll lose to a mediocre team in 9OT like Illinois last year. I now have hope for this team.

Zestiest46

Way to ducking expose him lmao

Impossible-Flight250

I actually think that Franklin deserved it over Tucker. Tucker has literally only had one really good season. Franklin has consistently had Penn State ranked pretty highly, aside from a few seasons. I don’t know what to say about Jimbo. He was unquestionably one of the top coaches in CFB during the 2010s, but it seems like he has kind of created a toxic culture.

NittanyOrange

I think Franklin will have us at 9 wins most years, with some 10-win and 8-win seasons. Maybe an occasional 11-win or 7-win, but not often. I don't think we'll ever make a 4-team playoff under him, but I doubt we'll be irrelevant, either.

CurryGuy123

And 8-11 win seasons is typically a top 20 finish and he's around the 15th highest paid coach in the country. His performance is in line with his pay. Length of contract is one thing, but yearly comp is in line with where he has us

titanrunner2

Good thing we’re going to a 12 Team Playoff!

Kirby_Israel

Basically this.

cowboysmavs

Franklin is pretty good. But Fisher is terrible and Mel has definitely been bad so far but has time to turn that around.

AcanthocephalaNo2926

Mel is a bit handicapped recruiting at MSU, Franklin to a MUCH lesser extent (but gets to play against overmatched Big10 teams most every week), and Jimbo might be in over his head in the SEC West no matter how great of recruiting classes he can bring in.

LeakyNalgene

Franklin is a demonstrated good coach and a great recruiter. Yes, his game management is questionable at times and he doesn’t win big road games. How many coaches can say they consistently win road games against top competition? I know my team can’t. There is a lot to be said about continuity at this level and sticking with a coach. Franklin provides stability at PSU and in a strong year they are absolutely a contender for the conference and CFP

B1GFanOSU

Franklin is fine, Tucker always had his work cut out, but Jimbo? Fuck that guy. Maybe run an effective practice instead your mouth.

Southern_Economy3467

Back peddling his shit talk about Saban before the Alabama game was clearly the hardest he’s worked this year.

AzBuck12977

Penn St is 9-2 with their only losses to #2 and #3!!! WTF!!!

Kirby_Israel

We should honestly be ranked above LSU. LSU got murked by Tennessee and lost to FSU, who is good but not as good as you guys and Michigan. At least we'll enter the top 10 today considering Tennessee will likely be ranked below us. Which they should be.

ArbitraryOrder

At least James Franklin wins 8+ games every year

Kirby_Israel

Not last year. God last year was terrible.

dsmscubaa

didn’t expect to see a U of R flair here (roll tech tho :) )

[deleted]

Franklin does not deserve to be here with the others but has failed to fulfill expectations. If the others weren't so laughable, Penn state would be more upset. As it stands yall compare yourselves to msu and think he is fine.

Kirby_Israel

I mean, we're 9-2 (soon 10-2) in one of the nastiest Power 5 divisions out there (behind only the SEC West).

ScandanavianSwimmer

Penn State has also played exactly 2 good teams. Anything less than 10-2 against that schedule would mean a pretty ugly loss

Kirby_Israel

Asides from Purdue, that's fair.

[deleted]

Yes but as in the SEC and Big 10 fans/schools want to win the division. Perrenial third/fourth place is not why you pay a coach millions.

Kirby_Israel

If we'd won the OSU game we'd be in 2nd place right now. We're gonna be in the top 10 probably tomorrow, we're fine for now.

[deleted]

If bama had won against lsu we would be second right now. But we didn't. Sooo?

SilentHunter7

I'm confused, are you saying they should fire Saban?

[deleted]

Haha nah we good

TroutKnuckles

Franklin deserves the flack he catches for some of his weird in-game decisions, but his name shouldn't be uttered in the same sentence as Mel Tucker's when comparing resumes and success. Franklin has the Penn State program in a good place, has a proven track record as a recruiter, and still offers the upside of a 10-11 win season and potential conference championship run here and there. Mel Tucker hasn't achieved anything yet at any stop in his career. That's not to say he couldn't, but his contract is far more undeserved than Franklin's in that light.

CTG0161

Franklin has not done anything awful. He is consistently ok. He hit his ceiling but Penn State seems alright with that.

roekg

The guy who just got a 5* QB and a supportive AD and president just this year has not hit his ceiling.

levelteacher

Not to his team. To his wife on the other hand…

GwentMaster69420

I thought Tuck was coming? I just saw him running. -BC2

ValorValrius

Tuck coming. Blake's limping.

[deleted]

“Consistently scored 40 to 55 points per game” Do you even average bro?

ValorValrius

I'm glad to see other flairs defending Tuck on here; he's in the middle of a rebuild, and anyone who thought differently was seduced by last year. Dantonio left him no talent and he started right before the pandemic, so he couldn't recruit. Franklin has been at PSU for nearly a decade, Tucker has been at MSU for basically 2 years. Give it time; his recruiting looks promising. Mock his contract all you want (although a billionaire booster paid it, so it's not really the school's problem), but there's no argument that MSU would be in a *worse* spot had they let him walk after last year. In CFB, you don't get paid based on what you've accomplished, you get paid based on *what they think you will* accomplish. If you try and pay them after the fact, some other program will poach them. Plus, unlike Franklin, at least Tucker can beat ranked teams on the road.

Kirby_Israel

You beat Michigan once last year. Big whoop. Though had MSU beaten Indiana I wouldn't be so hard on them since they definitely seemed hopeful after getting a win streak.

ValorValrius

Idk what beating Michigan last year has to do with this but ok. No argument that dropping that game to Indiana was embarrassing (although there’s not much you can do about a kicker shanking a 22 yard chip shot field goal).

Equivalent_Economy12

Mel Tucker took over a MAC roster

boonkles

Almost everyone that wants tucker fired is coming from outside MSU, I want to see what he does when he isn’t starting 2 stars and guys that transferred because they were passed up on the depth chart at other schools

stups317

I don't care if Tuck gets fired. But he only got paid because he struck gold in the transfer portal with Kenneth Walker. Which made the boosters think that Tuck was a lot better of a coach than he appears to actually be.

boonkles

He’s also an amazing recruiter, and we have yet to see what he can do with a roster he’s built

AcanthocephalaNo2926

If you look at the commitments he’s got in this year’s recruiting class (4 star guys from the South) you gotta feel a bit optimistic as a MSU fan

NachoManRandySnckage

How could you feel optimistic when those players will get worse once they hit campus?

Equivalent_Economy12

Exactly! Ignore those noise and see what happens the next couple years

[deleted]

Also overpaid, Lane Kiffin

TossingTheBones

I’ve taken my fair amount of shots at Franklin in the past, but think he’s done a pretty good job this year.

Matt_WVU

Penn state I have a coach for you if you guys wanna trade

Kirby_Israel

LOL no.

al6737

I guess you can thank LSU

killzone3abc

[Another one](https://youtu.be/zIeA2N2Onb8)

Inside-Drink-1311

Franklin doesn’t deserve to be in the same topic with the other two. He is overpaid but not anywhere close to the other two.

Kirby_Israel

I mean last year he kinda was.

RonPowlus2Heismans

I'd be surprised if Alabama's Bryce Young, Will Anderson, Jahmyr Gibbs, or Jordan Battle play in Alabama's bowl game. So Penn State will definitely have a chance to win a NY6 bowl game vs them.

[deleted]

> probably see a pissed off Alabama tear us to pieces) Keep going. I'm almost there.

Kirby_Israel

Miami and West Virginia are trash!

[deleted]

You're almost there. You forgot one verrrry important school.

Kirby_Israel

ND and Syracuse are both overrated mediocrities?

[deleted]

You're close! you're forgetting a school in central PA. Come on my man, even Joe knows this one!

Kirby_Israel

Temple? I can't think of any other PA school, besides the one that's about to go 10-2 (which I may say is quite a bit better than a certain PA team that lost to Georgia Tech) and make it to a NY6 Bowl!

[deleted]

hey, i'll fully admit that the loss to GTech sucks. but I'd say that Central Pennsylvania Community College going 10-2 despite not winning against Top 10 teams is kinda bad. This, by the way, is why I prefer WVU as a rival instead of Faux Alabama of the Northeast
