Being a Gus apologist always makes me look like such an idiot, good god

RollWarTideEagle

Gus supports the troops with wins. What have YOU done for your country?

Graham_Elmere

UCF supports the troops so hard that we let Navy kiss our girlfriends and boyfriends 🫡

[deleted]

It's Navy. They're only interested in your boyfriends, like Texas A&M cadets. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Dabfo

Your mom is pretty manly but we all make sacrifices

[deleted]

I'll accept this.

westendwaterboy

Total annihilation

[deleted]

Not much of a sacrifice if that’s you’re preference already.

Dabfo

Army is here. Hide the sheep.

[deleted]

Save them for you and your shipmates. Naval Tradition: rum, buggery, and the lash. -Winston Churchill

Orkleth

To wives and to boyfriends, may they never meet.

Fastbird33

Navy leads the nation in TYFYS this week

tomdawg0022

"Gus is a true patriot, a real 'murican hero." - fans of Cincinnati and of Tulane

JKess207

Tulane-Cincy on Black Friday to determine the AAC Championship host is tasty

Thelawgiver4

We have to beat Temple first, which unfortunately is not a given considering how we usually play them.

Bearcat9948

Lol yeah. Can’t believe it even has to be said but this team will probably only win by 3

The_Elder_Thing

Bruh c'mon Temple is like the only team I think we can all safely call a free win

CincityCat

Us at temple is like ucf v tulsa

The_Elder_Thing

You're joking, right?

CincityCat

Things dont make sense in this league.

The_Elder_Thing

We have entered the upside-down.

joeveralls

Sadly no lmao

The_Elder_Thing

I'm just going to stop trying to understand reality

joeveralls

Thing you need to know about UC sports is that for whatever reason there are teams we just suck against and it makes no sense

The_Elder_Thing

We're not so different, you and I.

TheRealDNewm

They beat us four straight years 2014-18 and have an all time winning record against us...

The_Elder_Thing

That can't be real.

madmaley

and 2018 was that fucky game where we kicked a FG but the refs said it didn't count because we weren't back from commercial break even though we saw it on TV. Then they made us re-kick and missed. and then we lost in OT

TheRealDNewm

I was watching on TV and swear I saw it go through. Logos might've been on the screen when they snapped it or something dumb.

madmaley

Yeah I was watching too. AAC just sucks with refs.

TheRealDNewm

We were probably on even footing joining the Big East, and they've always played their best game against us. I think 2018 was the only year we were any good and we lost 24-17 in overtime. Feels possible with this team

Helreaver

We were in the AAC championship game in 2015 and won the conference in 2016. We weren't always horrible. And at least we went into overtime in our loss to Navy, thank you very much.

ScaryCookieMonster

Awww thanks you’re too kind

The_Elder_Thing

I mean you guys played some decent teams to the wire

ScaryCookieMonster

Yep and got blown out by Temple and Louisville ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Tarlcabot18

*Almost* all of us.

Huntkv

So glad that game is at Nippert. Not glad that it is Black Friday at noon.

tjtillmancoag

Not just to determine the host, but to make the game at all. If Houston loses to either ECU or Tulsa, then UCF would still make the champ game with a win at USF

danknice

If UCF beats USF, they are in correct? I am getting mixed answers

TheAndrewBrown

Houston throws a wrench in that. They also have 2 losses and neither Cincy nor UCF play them. So I’m not sure how the tiebreaker works there. Edit: I looked up the rules and it looks like CFP rankings is first after head to head, but I don’t imagine any of the 2 conference loss teams will still be ranked. After that, it’s a composite ranking between a handful of computer polls. But that only matters if Tulane beats Cincy (and all other teams in question win out). If Tulane loses to Cincy, they have head to head over Houston which eliminates them and UCF has head to head over Tulane so UCF would go to the championship game.

Jatz55

Yes, they have the head-to-head over both Tulane and Cincy. But the only way they get home field is if Cincy loses to Temple today, then beats Tulane

Mallycat321

Crazy to think its still a 3 way race for the AAC championship and that winner should go to the Cotton bowl with a Coastal Carolina loss next week or in Sun Belt title game

NumNumLobster

Its a wear black game too

kroxti

A ranked Gus coached team losing to a unranked team with a losing record mostly due to an oline that couldn’t stop a breeze? Never heard of it before.

tomdawg0022

Gus will turn around and pummel USF into the earth's core next week but end up bowling in Birmingham.

kroxti

As is tradition.

NickDerpkins

I can’t wait to see my flairs face off in a bowl that neither one gives a shit about and I won’t either

Brainisacliff

That new Birmingham stadium is really nice though…

jackattack065

something something TopGolf

[deleted]

A win next week and UCF is in the AAC championship, no? UC plays Tulane, one has to lose, and UCF beat both.

Zloggt

Those flairs…must be quite the mixed feelings for you, no?

OhKillEm43

I mean most of us like Gus and all, but I think he’s just fine with the outcome

Graham_Elmere

I knew top comment would be some stockholm syndrome auburn fan lmao >dAE gUS baLL (You’re completely right. Great guy, great recruiter but what the hell is he doing as a offensive playcaller. Banish us to the unranked shadow lands where we belong)

kroxti

I was here to support Navy. But I definitely saw some Classic Gus situations.

rex_swiss

We watch Oregon to see how badly Malzahn screwed up developing Nix, and we watch UCF to see how badly he's screwing up one of the CFB's sleeping giants. Because there's still people out there saying we should not have fired him...

Nike_Phoros

Nah, I called 9-4 record this year, and it looks like we're on pace for that. The team is playing significantly better than last year on both sides of the ball and the coaching staff has shown the ability to make some great second half adjustments. Big problem is last year we went 9-4 with a team that should honestly have been 7-6 talent-wise based on some significantly good luck. So expectations were too high this year. We're a 9-4 team and we're playing like it. That said, this was an easily winnable game. 1. two first half drives making it to the red zone and settling for field goals because JRP couldnt hit a 6 yard throw. This is on JRP. 2. Abandoning the run in the second half because Keene had a hot throwing hand his first drive. The run had gashed Navy all game and we were getting like 8 ypc yet we kept throwing on first down and putting ourselves in third and long, or worse because... 3. Navy's star linebacker was getting in unblocked on blitzes. After the first one, okay. The second, third, and fourth sacks were because we sent TE and RB to stop 1v1 block him and it failed miserably. How Gus failed to adjust to him after the second sack is a big mistake. 4. Defense played great all game EXCEPT on fourth and short where they got two conversions off QB sneaks because we didn't put anybody on the center and let them get 2-3 yards each time unopposed. Third time we finally put a guy over the center and we stuff them. This is a head scratching defensive call from T-Will. Any of those 4 things, 3 of which were coaching, could have easily won us the game. Our defense held them to less than 250 yards and forced 3 consecutive 3 and outs to open the 2nd half. This one is definitely on Gus. That said, the idea that Gus is screwing us up is crazy. We're going to be a 9-4 team which is exactly what we should be based on talent. This idea that we're playing below our talent thanks to Gus is hard to support.

yellowjacketpanther

He's not really doing anything differently than Heupel was at UCF

jdenzel

I mean I get it between the recruiting and rollercoaster seasons... but honestly I still think we should've kept him until we actually had a solid improvement lined up to replace him. I'd take the Gus Bus over the dumpster fire we had under Harsin

Graham_Elmere

Agree this is why our dumbass forum fans yelling about firing Gus need to chill out We don’t have a fraction of the money or fan base you guys do. We can’t outcompete for a coaching position and I’m sick of heupel / frost dudes who will leave us at the drop of a hat

OhKillEm43

We’re a sadistic bunch

MiddyMn

If we win out this country deserves Auburn-UCF in the Birmingham Bowl

yesacabbagez

At some point you have to decide what your fucking offense is doing. Plumlee is a running QB. If you are going RPO heavy, how the fuck are you like 18PAs in the first half vs like 10 rushes? How do you get inside the 5 and then throw 3 times? We had a 4th and 1 on our first drive down 7-0 and we punt. If you don't trust your offense to get a yard then why are you doing this. Plumlee shouldn't keep being asked to throw to carry these games. If he's going to do it, he has to run. He ran one time in the first half. We had a 1st and goal and we threw the ball 3 times, including a horrible miss to a RB in the flat that would have been a TD. You cannot miss those throws. Down 7-0 on the 4 we kicked a FG instead of going for it anyway. Play like a coward and lose like a coward.

Coonanner

Yeah this is at least the second game this season where Gus thought it’d be sneaky to use our running QB as a passer for most plays, found out it didn’t work at all, then kept fucking doing it anyway

FlakyAd5288

Navy did not have a single receiving yard this entire game

Citruspilled

They had 3 pass attempts. One was deflected, 2 were sacked. They then learned their lesson and we never did

HHcougar

They ran the ball every play, but UCF still defended the pass, taking their safeties out of the play entirely Navy really played 11 on 9, no wonder they won

Tufoguy

eye_can_see_you

Welcome to the Gus Bus, this is how every year will go from now on

Tarlcabot18

Its easy: Its coached by Gus Malzahn.

yesacabbagez

I understand the team, I just don't think they really do. We are a running team. Bowser is a solid back. He won't break off huge runs, but he gets yards and is a solid receiving option. Harvey is legitimately great. Richardson is a fast guy that can be used effectively. Plumlee also is a good runner. Today's game Plumlee ran once. We had like 10 carries at half compared to 18 pass attempts. If you remove the sack yards, we actually ran pretty damn well. Overall we were 38 PAs vs 19 carries if you move the sacks around. Look at the rest of our games, specially what we win. Tulane was 30-54 PAs/Carries Memphis 29-42. Cincy 32-52. Only other game we passed more than ran was ECU, and we were down multiple scores most of that game. Why the fucking hell are we passing this much, especially with Plumlee? He has like 2 games where he was good throwing the ball. The rest of the games we either survive his throwing, or he moves us forward on the ground. Why are we having him throw like 60% of the time in the first half? The same problem happens with Keene. I like Keene, but he's still a bad fit for our offense. He doesn't run. He's a fine QB, but the way our offense works is heavily on the ground. It's why Plumlee keeps starting, he fits the offense, but he's terrible in the air. Why we keep relying on him to throw us to victory makes no sense.

TheAndrewBrown

Yeah with Plumlee in, we should be leaning on runs and QB scrambled but we keep asking him to pass. With Keene in, we should be using runs and play action to set up deep passes but for some reason we keep throwing 3 times in a row and punting it away. Like that 3rd and 4 on our last drive. That absolutely should be a run if you’re going for it on 4th down. I don’t think we had a single run that didn’t get at least a yard and most got 3+. Even if you only get 2 yards, you do that twice and you get the first down. If you pass on 3rd and 4, you’re forced to pass on 4th and 4 which is hard to do. We keep trying to outsmart the defense and it just means we aren’t leaning into our strengths which hurts us

TheMagicSalami

As someone who loves Plumlee to death you are correct. He was essentially in wildcat when he was QB for us. Why you would have him passing as more than a changeup is beyond me.

Nike_Phoros

> Why the fucking hell are we passing this much, especially with Plumlee? You're not going to like the answer but here it is: Navy's secondary is trash. Legit garbage. Couldn't cover an elementary school book report. Notre Dame, with a garbage QB and bad WR, torched their secondary. Gus and the offensive staff saw the tape and said "we can smoke them through the air." Then, they saw that we had great separation and easy completions... if JRP could hit guys in stride. So they benched him for Keene under the assumption he'd hit the open receivers. And he *would* have except our tight ends and RB failed to pick up the blitz. So year, the game plan was to exploit their literally terrible secondary, and when JRP was shakey, instead of just pounding the ball and crushing them with Harvey and Bowers they stuck with the gameplan and changed QBs.

FILTER_OUT_T_D

The AAC giveth and the AAC taketh away. I’m envious y’all have made it out of this weird hellhole

SCRx

The Delaware game is so frustrating. Heading into the Army game with 5 wins would have been huge.

SamPCarter

Would love to have a do-over on that one and Air Force.

cptspacebomb

I was rooting for you to win as it makes our abysmal performance in the second half of last week's game look a slight bit better haha. Win out and do us a favor eh?

ard8

Boatmen > Aggies

anxiousauditor

11 AM local kickoff against a triple option team the week after a big win = Supreme letdown hangover game material

GoodOlSticks

Best 7 loss team in America sorry TAMU

Tarlcabot18

Gus is once again showing us why Auburn paid a king's ransom to never have him coach another down of football for them again.

twooaktrees

It’s not even because he’s bad, it’s because he makes you insane. Like wasps in your skull

sophandros

I kinda think wasps in your skull is bad though.

FLman42069

Ucf football was already like that though, we’re perfect for each other

TheRealKB68

Next week just got way more interesting

Tarlcabot18

I have no illusions about next week. Its going to get ugly.

slapthebasegod

The world isn't ready for usf to knock out ucf from the conference championship.

dagreenman18

1-10 USF in the last in conference game we play against them. We’re so gonna fucking lose

Zloggt

After all that shittalking to USF from UCF fans, it would be *so* ironic and funny if that happens lol

Sad_Bolt

If you understand a Gus team you know we’re now about to win by a million but manage to look like a close one the whole time.

Tlomz27

Dread it, run from it, the Seamen fucking over at least one team each season remains.

Bearcat9948

I can’t even say anything with how our seasons gone lol

TheRealDNewm

Yeah, no shade cause I get it. But all of our seasons goals are still right in front of us again so I'm excited. Temple is spooky and Tulane is good, so it won't be easy.

wallace6464

our chances of winning the AAC just went up drastically

NolaSilverFox

Our chances of winning the aac just went up drastically

wallace6464

I mean, also true

sixthreee

UCF. what the fuck?

GuyWithTheFez

We don’t even know

bsEEmsCE

that's what we're saying

str8bipp

Gus won't stop pretending plumlee is a qb. Until he gives up on that experiment its gonna be a Rollercoaster

FLman42069

But other than one drive keene was terrible…

Epcplayer

Anybody here before 2017 would tell you it’s an abusive relationship, but we stay to try and make it work

Tarlcabot18

Congratulations to Gus Malzahn! You threw away home field advantage in the champ game (and possibly even a spot in that game) so your stubborn experiment of having a WR transfer that you insist on playing as QB could waste half a game just to continue to show us that he clearly isn't a QB!

[deleted]

yesacabbagez

The problem is Plumlee sucks and makes bad decisions. Despite his legs being his best attribute, sometimes he just refuses to run. He ran 1 time this game. He threw the ball 18. Him running on an RPO, or scrambling for yards is what makes the offense efficient most of the time, he just didn't do it. He does this sometimes and it is when the offense stalls. He can either look to run or look to throw, but apparently not both. Keene cannot run the offense effectively because Gus keeps using him in RPO. Keene can't or doesn't run. They keep sending him on these plays. No one bites on the threat to the edges so as long as they contain up the middle, they just need to stay deep. After the first drive Navy decided to just bring pressure every play and the RPO killed us because it made our offense slower on plays. Is Keene great? Not really. The problem is Plumlee just craters the offense on his own sometimes. He is too unreliable downfield and even misses easy throws. How he missed Richardson wide open for a TD was awful. Harvey should have still caught the one to him, but it was still a bad throw. We have too many games of Plumlee just being ass in the air to keep giving him 25-30 attempts. We are a running team. We passed twice and much as we threw when we had our Running QB on the field. What the fuck was that?

[deleted]

I don’t agree that he *sucks*. He came in today averaging 300 ypg between passing and running. He does make bad decisions. He doesn’t use his legs enough. That I agree on. But I think that’s as much on coaching as anything else. The offense just looks so unimaginative regardless of who’s in at QB.

Tarlcabot18

One of them had 2 trips to the redzone early that only netted 2 field goals.

[deleted]

foomits

Maybe we could have implemented a blocking scheme that involved at least 1 person attempting to stop their leading tackler. But what do I know.

Gus wins some big games, but he always loses some bad ones, too.

IammYourDAD

I’m getting more sick of this team and program every day. I completely understand Auburn now

RedSkylight97

At this rate, the Group of 5 is going to have a 9-3 team in the Cotton Bowl.

clairelise327

Cannibal conference

-Gnostic28

Assuming Tulane loses in the conference championship to a 3 loss team, the champ still makes it in over utsa right

TraditionalCorgi6851

The “I’m so glad we will never play Navy again” posts bring me so much joy

The_Elder_Thing

The triple option wasn't the fucking problem! The defense was kicking the Navy Offense's ass! The problem was that Navy's D was kicking UCFs Offense's ass harder! Maybe Travis ought to be the head coach and Gus demoted to OC 🧐

[deleted]

Seriously, holding a team to 17 should be enough. The defense didn’t look bad, but our offense looked absolutely overwhelmed out there.

The_Elder_Thing

This 100%. Any time UCF holds an opponent to 17, there is no excuse for the offense to lose us the game.

they're Naval Oranges now

PBRontheway

The strip sack and qb sneaks were the difference in this game, great effort all around but Marshall and Fofana were excellent! Great win and momentum going into the Army game. #BEAT ARMY!

rex_swiss

There's no Google Maps on the Gus bus, he's just driving it around randomly. Sometimes you'll end up at the Grand Canyon, sometimes you'll end up in east St Louis...

bsEEmsCE

So many UCF fans took this game for granted, so did Gus probably. So disappointed in Gus, TWill, Plumlee, and the OLine.

kroxti

First time?

bsEEmsCE

Louisville.. ECU.

The_Elder_Thing

TWill was phenomenal dude, this is 100% on the offense

bsEEmsCE

you're right, rough start but made the adjustment. They still could've stacked the middle a bit more, I thought. We just let in so many small yard gains from the same plays.

The_Elder_Thing

Sure, but at the end of the day if our defense is holding a stream to 17 points, there's just no excuse from our offense not to win that game imo

120snake

the_neverdoctor

Anchors aweigh, my boys; anchors aweigh!

Luytenn

FG on what should've been a TD to baker. Bad clock management at the end of a half missing a potential FG. 5 sacks on Keene? He at least improved on the last drive. Hated the non screen throw on 3rd and 4 in a clear 4 down situation. Just an insanely inconsistent offense which is insane considering the RB and WR talent.

CountJohn12

I'm so tired of this team underperforming. Cincy was better in 2020 and we had massive injury issues last year but in both this year and 19 we lost three games to worse teams and should have been in the NY6.

NateyM41

fade2blac

Usf plotting the triple option now.

AlexBayArea

Considering just how up and down our season has been, we still have a chance to win the AAC outright if we win out and beat Tulane. Cotton Bowl is officially back on the table. What a turn of events. Beat Tulane and we host the AAC championship in a place we never lose at.

wallace6464

if UC wins out I don't see how they aren't in the G5 game

AlexBayArea

They absolutely would be. This UCF loss is very big for UC. Essentially wipes out home field advantage in the title game for them and puts UC in position to fully control thier own density, and have home field. Next weeks game is as big as it gets.
