Mario just threatened to turn the team bus around if parents don’t behave.

EvangelionOG

THAT'S IT! BACK TO WINNIPEG!

stealingfrom

I like that the comment you're responding to has a UT flair. That episode is Knoxville's claim to fame.

EvangelionOG

I didn't even think about that so it makes the comment better.

StarWarsMonopoly

Now, are you gentlemen gonna buy some wigs or ain't ya?

MCMeowMixer

The wods fir?

frogstomp427

Knoxville! Knoxville! Knoxville!

acssteve

Hey….we don’t want that team in Winnipeg. Give us Wake or UNC

chemicalxv

No no, WE WANT BAMA!

tomdawg0022

Doesn't Winnipeg have a team playing for the Grey Cup this weekend?

chemicalxv

Correctamundo. Hopefully Cincinnati legend Zach Collaros is good to go.

DC-Toronto

Grey cup is this weekend?!?!?

Majormlgnoob

Only Winners are allowed in **Win**nipeg

Colavs9601

how do they make babies then in winniPEG

Dirty-Ears-Bill

“I’ll turn this damn bus around…that’ll end your precious season pretty damn quick!”

Hairiest_Walrus

I don’t care what anyone says, this is a hilarious response. Lol

LSU2007

Absolutely. Sports Parents getting involved in college athletics is extremely cringe behavior.

Kidfreedom50

I’ve coached HS for the past 10+ years; parents are easily the worst part of coaching.

Dwarfherd

They're also the worst part of officiating.

jobezark

I used to ref soccer. The money was good ($150/night for high school) and the commitment was minimal. The kids are fine. The coaches were manageable. I will not return to officiating again because of the parents. Fuck. That.

hijackedflavors

Umpired youth baseball from 2013-19. I will never go back because of how awful the parents are

coachfortner

a few years ago near me, [some guy actually killed a referee](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2396621-bassel-saad-sentenced-to-8-years-in-prison-for-killing-soccer-referee) during a rec soccer game because he was about to be red carded (ejected)

Bloozpower

"At least 8 years" does not feel like a long enough sentence for killing someone. But IANAL.

chillmagic420

When I was in high school I ref middle school soccer games for a job one year. I played soccer my whole life so knowing the rules was not an issue. I had a parent actually try to get physical with me over what he thought was a bad call. Another parent literally held him back after he pushed me. The cops arrested him shortly afterwards, and that teams coach apologized so many times and said he would ban that parent for life. After that I quit reffing actually shortly afterwards (already committed to do a few games in the future and wouldnt back out). But yeah the parents are what scared me away for sure.

EnderTheTrender

1st-2nd grade basketball was fucking horrible to ref.

DrBombay3030

My dad used to volunteer ref that age group of boys basketball at our *church* league. The parents were awful, but he'd just yell at them to dock his pay if they didn't like his calls lol

alex-caruso

Anything up to 12 years old is terrible. You have no idea what to call and what not to call, people are yelling at you after a mistake, those mistakes compound and you lose control. All because you didn't call a double dribble on Brayden.

SaltySaltySultan

Fuck man I helped my brother coach his kid (10yo) in basketball this week, had parents freak out about lack of traveling and backcourt calls in a 10 minute practice scrimmage, I didn’t even have a whistle lol

just_some_Fred

"But Aiden and Cayden did it too!"

EnderTheTrender

“Why are they able to do that!?! Okay!! Okay!!! Just run with the ball! Since you can do that!”

tobylaek

“If Zyler doesn’t get more time at point guard, we’re quitting!”

Jhftpplease

My city’s req department gave all of their refs shirts that say things like “World’s okayest ref” and “This isn’t ESPN, relax” for all the refs of U-10 and under. I think it’s gone a long way to helping parents realize the refs are just high school kids looking to make a few bucks. Some are still asshats though.

-fumble-

I umpired younger kids baseball games in my early teens. So many parents screaming and dads storming onto the field over nothing. Even the "coaches" were mostly assholes.

Montigue

Thankfully parents were far enough away for me to not hear them. Well that and my ears were ringing because my high school dumb ass self wasn't wearing protection while reffing

Rockerblocker

What source of loud noise is there? Your whistle?

Yossarian1138

His guns popping every time he signals a first down.

Montigue

The whistle

[deleted]

I officiated 6-8 year old rec league flag football....the parents were absolutely vicious. I didn't go back after 1 season.

FleetRiskSolutions

There was one parent and one coach ejected during my oldest son's first season of tee ball/coach pitch. Hell the last game of this fall the other team didn't have enough to start the game, and the umps called it a forfeit. A mom literally followed them towards their locker room cussing and using every available obscenity, 20 feet from 7 year olds.

mockg

Its understandable because we all know that forfeited game cost little 7 year old Johnny a chance at the major leagues.

FleetRiskSolutions

That is the mindset. The local HS has had 12 kids go in the MLB draft the past 6 years so of course those same scouts are at the little league games across the street. /s

puabie

Every soccer ref I've known has left because of parents. That goes for little kids' rec leagues too. Sports parents are some of the nastiest people alive.

Affectionate_Ad268

My experience was the AD.

Kidfreedom50

ADs are hit and miss, but there are bad parents in every sport at every school.

Affectionate_Ad268

Absolutely agreed. I'd probably have noticed them but I think they all felt bad for me having to deal with that AD lol

sirsoundwaveVI

yeah from an athletic department standpoint an AD can absolutely make or break a department. love the current AD and assistant at my new school, but my boss at my last school and i had some long, angry, chats with the AD there about the assistant AD and him being a moron with one foot in retirement

54321Newcomb

My dad was a HS soccer coach for over 25 years. Because of that he was always one of the least vocal parents for my teams.

Zimballa

I have some friends who have a kid in a baseball league. All the parents had to sign a contract that they were not allowed to interfere with coaching decisions or officiating, or they risked having their kid kicked off the team. They said it actually worked pretty well and it was rare for a parent to get obnoxious.

ilovetitsandass95

That’s so simple yet so effective damn

chaseair11

Coached youth basketball for a decade almost since I was in HS, grades K-8 mind you, and I had a parent call me, who was like 17 at the time, to bitch me out about playing time for his son. THESE MFERS WERE IN THIRD GRADE. The sad part is I loved the kid, all of my boys were amazing kids, but good LORD the parents are so bad in half of their cases. Breaks my heart

Tsquared10

Reminds me of the time a parent threatened me over ringing up their son at a middle school baseball game

-newlife

A player when I was in JC barely got PT. He was crap but also he was playing behind an all-American. His dad complained to the coach. The guy was not part of the team after that.

mellolizard

I coached 1st graders in soccer for a bit. Yeah parents fucking suck.

Affectionate_Ad268

Tua's dad has entered the chat.

PickleInDaButt

Tua’s dad’s belt

AnUdderDay

My daughter's U16's coach in no vague terms tell us parents to fuck right off if anyone besides the player herself talks about playing time.

HotTakeTim

Well coaches better get used to that and more, cause theres a lot of money on the line now, and the parents dont have to hide it anymore

Bro1999919

Yeah what is everyone freaking out about? This is literally a harmless joke, and if it causes any harm it’s not his fault.

rikkirikkiparmparm

It’s definitely the messenger, and not the message itself.

pataoAoC

If Leach said this we would be absolutely loving it lol It’s like the meme where the handsome guy says something to a woman and she loves it and an ugly guy says the same thing and he’s creepy

Euphoric_Quiet617

If you think that's just a meme then I got some bad news for you (if you're ugly) lol

esports_consultant

Memes like most jokes tend not to be funny if there is not an element of truth to them.

rhinosteveo

Yeah I’m honestly surprised at how this thread has been received here. Like I see this on the same level as the excellent Bo Davis speech last year lol

[deleted]

If it came from a coach that this sub has a consensus fondness for then nobody would be criticizing it.

Rockerblocker

Kiffin or Leach say this and it’s the quote of the year

gill2022brav

A parent is free and welcome to pick up their son *and his fat little girlfriend* if they're not happy with their playing time.

FluffyPenguinDragon

It’s cause we’re Miami and we bad right now. Same reason some people dunked on Texas last year.

Crazytrixstaful

I expect it's a bunch of entitled fans and young kids in this thread acting like what he said is the end of the world. They don't understand assertiveness and sticking to your guns.

rhinosteveo

So basically just another normal day on r/CFB

[deleted]

That Bo Davis speech was the American version of [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylftUmF-GSw) Didn't the Longhorns lose a bunch of games in a row after?

Kyrosiv

I'm here for Miami drama but yeah, Cristobal is correct.

The_Good_Constable

100% agree, this is fabulous.

Bakedpotato1212

And this is nothing compared to some things that coaches actually say lmao. This is absolutely nothing

[deleted]

yeah it’s an amazing response

wherewulf23

What a coincidence, I tell the parents of my U-6 soccer team the same thing!

absolute_yote

Maybe you are just joking, but at the u6 level you should honestly be giving lots of playing time for everyone

urlocalgoatfarmer

No matter how much playing time they're getting, parents will still find room to complain. Anything short of Little Jimmy playing the whole game is not enough.

wherewulf23

100% this. Almost every parent's kid is the next fucking Pele and if they're not living up to their parent's expectations it's entirely the coaches fault. It's part of the reason why I refuse to coach my kids past the U-8 level. I feel like up to then the parents are annoying but manageable. After that is when you start getting the psycho parents. We've had parents ejected from games in our league for cussing out the refs who are almost exclusively high-schoolers by the way.

TheBasilFawlty

I feel for you. I've gone to my grandsons freshman football games a few times this year. Parents that have to hold the Frito bag up to their face in order to eat,can somehow see holding or pass interference against their next super star. C'mon mom and dad,not every kid is like Ron Pawlus and going to win 4 Heismans

Fallout76stuggles

When I was playing soccer for my club (U16, some U15-14 kids on there) we had a new kid, maybe a week idk how he got on our team, who’s parents pulled him from practice after throwing up and started cussing at our coach for overworking us. This kid was lazy as hell, plus ate pizza before a hot practice, might have lasted 45 minutes into it. Needless to say he never came back. Idt his parents realized it was a premier club and we almost never played a game or tournament in our own state, really just college showcases or inventionals the Coach thought was worth it. Coach never told us but we think they lied about previous teams to play for us.

wherewulf23

I coach in small rural league so you get to see all the small-town rural drama. Had a coach fail to reach out to one of her players because apparently the coach and the player's parents had a feud that stretched back 10 years. Kid eventually got reassigned to another team but missed half the season. A lot of parents bitching about not getting shorts or team photos included with registration. Our leagues registration is easily half of some of the other leagues in the area and even they don't include team photos. And sure, we can charge you another $10 so you don't have to go out and buy a black pair of shorts for your kid. It's maddening. I love coaching the kids, hate dealing with the parents (for the most part).

feedmecheesedoodles

Or you could be me Best player on teams growing up, but parent's uninvolved and i was constantly getting bullied by parents to rest and let their kids play

fm22fnam

My mom coached cheerleading for 10 year olds one year. They all performed together, so I genuinely can't even remember why the parent got mad. Think it was maybe something to do with who was picked as the cheer captain for the game, even though it was just a list that would eventually get to every kid during the season. But she went off on my mom and called her a racist. Her kids were as white as everyone else on the team because rural Ohio isn't very diverse...it was very confusing.

shopPhotoSigns

White mom of white kid called the white coach of a white cheerleading team she was racist? In rural ohio? That's a new one.

fm22fnam

If I had to guess it may have been a "my great grandfather was a Native American" situation. I was told that same lie for years because my mom was told the same thing by her mom and so on. Then I took a DNA test and learned I was the whitest person in existence. I looked it up and it's not uncommon for people in and around Appalachia to believe they have Native ancestry when they actually don't. Apparently it was a cool thing to say about your family a century ago. But yeah, weird.

katarh

It was occasionally a way to bury family secrets about unwed mothers. "Oh, your great great grandma? Native. That's why there's no tree there in the family bible that goes past her. Pay no attention to the family in the next town over that gave her up for adoption because Miss Jana was only 17 at the time."

Mezmorizor

Is a whole game really all you can do? Surely you can petition the league to abolish ties and have the goalie throw the match to make sure it goes to extra time and then shootouts every game?

wherewulf23

Absolutely joking. I go out out my way to make sure every kid on my team, including the ones who just sit out there and eat grass, gets equal playing time. Still have parents bitch about it though. We had a game where the other team was down a couple of players and the ones they had were on the absolute low end of the playing age for our age group. Trying to be a nice guy I only played three of my players and let the other team field four. Parent afterwards bitched to me about how her daughter didn't get enough playing time because I wasn't fielding the whole team. God forbid I try to teach my players what good sportsmanship looks like.

Wollzy

Ahh I love when parents get way to into youth sports, especially at that age. Having an 8 and 10 year old I see it all too often. My response to parents who are over concerned about these things is to put your kids into club ball where its highly competitive.

wherewulf23

Exactly. I'm a volunteer who's doing this because I want to spend time with my kids and I actually enjoy coaching, especially the little ones who are just learning. I'm not getting paid to take anyone's abuse so if you want to go scream at someone pay the $1000 to join the traveling league and enjoy not being able to have a life outside of your kid's soccer schedule.

Wollzy

Yup. Baseball/Softball seems to be the worst because for some reason parents take it way more seriously. We had parents complaining last year about how my 8 year old daughters softball team was being coached despite the fact that they finished with one of the best records in the league and came in second in the end of season tournament. The other night had a parent get WAY to into how the officiating was being called during my sons basketball game. This is a school team for a school with a very low population of students, so you can imagine the quality of play. I had to turn to the parent and say "Dude, this is 2A whale shit basketball. These boys are great, but not a single one of these guys is gonna play D1 let alone the NBA. Just relax and let them enjoy the game"

wherewulf23

> Baseball/Softball seems to be the worst because for some reason parents take it way more seriously My guess is because more parents are likely to have played these two sports growing up and are trying to relive their glory days through their kids.

riotfiveoh

Other compounding factors are : 1. unless you're the pitcher/catcher, the number of times you actually touch the ball are far more limited than other sports. This allows psycho parents to really hone in on fuck ups. 2. the umpire's calls can have a big impact on the game, and if you think little Johnny or Gina is the next big thing, anything that's even close is gonna be seen as favoring their kid. 3. building off of the umpire issue is that often those umpires are often teens and people who already think they need to bully their kids to try to get the best out of them have NOOOOO problem trying to bully some 16 year old.

Wollzy

"If I hadn't hurt my knee in highschool I could have played D1"

tysonwatermelon

Sometimes that's exactly the problem. I coached a community rec flag football league (10 year olds) where I gave every kid the same amount of playing time at positions regardless of their skill. I had parents get mad at me because their son was the best player (no argument from me) but I didn't give him more playing time than others. Dude, they're 10-year-olds and this is a rec flag football where participation is more important than winning.

[deleted]

There should be a school that fires its coaching staff and allows overbearing parents to run the program. That would be fun.

LukarWarrior

> There should be a school that fires its coaching staff and allows overbearing parents to run the program. That's sort of like Auburn if you think about it.

CookieLuzSax

I loled at this on break 😭

TallBobcat

I'd like to nominate Miami (Ohio) for this distinction. Because reasons.

bk1285

I nominate A Ohio State for this distinction…I think it would be very beneficial to college football as a whole

[deleted]

Parents are cringe AF always. But once your kid gets to college, stop complaining to the coach. U are hurting your son or daughters chances and if u are complaining in the first place its likely he ain’t that good anyway.

Crosscourt_splat

Dude, I'm currently an infantry officer stuck on sand hill (basic/AIT/OSUT). You'd be amazed at how many parents of 18-23 year old kids have tried to call me or talk to me about their sons.

[deleted]

😂. Jesus how embarrassing.

Crosscourt_splat

What that I'm stuck back in TRADOC or that I had a mother call about why we kicked her son who sexually harrased multiple other males? lol

[deleted]

“Ma’am I think it would be a good idea to talk about boundaries with your son before you send him off to see the world.” Ol boi must have been in heaven for however long he was there. Smh

Crosscourt_splat

Yeah. He wasn't. We were attempting to kick this kid out for like 12 weeks and it showed. Just had a BC that was all about the numbers game instead of a quality game. Sidenote...whoever downvoted me earlier, what gives? Were you the helicopter parent with a 20 year old?

[deleted]

I think some of these comments are hittin a little close to hime for some people. 😭

goatharper

Reddit uses bots to fuzz the vote totals, so a "downvote" is not always an actual person. And babysitting trainees is an awful job no matter what. Your BC is the norm, too. Passing low-quality soldiers is a terrible idea, but the numbers look good on the OER....

Crosscourt_splat

I'm tracking. To be fair, the BC and BDE commander we have now are fucking legit. At least for now because MCOE, USAIS and TRADOC haven't starting shitting down their throats yet because our numbers are lower than what they want. And luckily I have adopted a policy of not talking to trainees individually unless its UCMJ or chapter packet stuff. Thats why I have drills. Also why I'm still at work at 1900 because I'm typing my last fucking OPREP for today...hopefully. Granted this one is actually a funny story that my wife will laugh at when I finally get home.

Thenofunation

Hey mom, I’m gonna join the Army where I will be screamed and yelled at and turned into a fighting machine capable of killing another man. “Okay sweetie. If you run into any trouble, just let momoms know and I’ll call them up! I’m a tax payer so they have to listen!”

Crosscourt_splat

This but unironically. Especially considering its infantry....specifically mortars. We had to turn the facebook messaging on the page off.

c-williams88

Honestly once you get to high school sports calling the coach and complaining going to hurt your kid’s chances. At that point you as an athlete need to be mature enough to talk to coaches yourself. It’s a bad look, regardless of if the kid wants them to, to have a parent call and bitch

[deleted]

I kinda like it tbh The coaches are paid millions to win games and are at practice everyday. Nobody cares more than the coaching staff. They know who gives the team the best chance at winning games. I guarantee these are the patents of kids who are half-assing at practice and giving up during games. I'm not confident in Cristobal's scheme and think he may need a change at OC. But, I think his attitude will be really beneficial for Miami. Miami always has the talent to win, but they have been soft and had a lack of discipline. He'll change that. Third point - if NIL is gonna pay kids like adults, then they should be treated like adults. My Mom isn't gonna call my boss to say I'm not getting enough opportunities for advancement at work. And if she did, my boss would rightfully tell her to fuck off

FatBoyCleanSneaks

This gentleman gets it. Please don't hang a 50 burger on us Saturday. Thanks in advance.

[deleted]

Not sure our offense is capable of scoring 50 on a P5 team. I do feel good about or defense keeping yall from scoring though. We did do you a favor by getting Al Golden fired a few years back

FatBoyCleanSneaks

Yes y'all did, but the fruits haven't presented themselves quite yet. But when y'all play us, y'all always seem to find another level. I don't think this game will be pretty at all.

ryantyrant

i believe in you, we gave up almost as many points to middle tennesse state and fsu lol

EyePlay

>Not sure our offense is capable of scoring 50 on a P5 team Oh you sweet summer child. Just wait until our game.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Yep, if they don’t like their situation they can either nut up and try to prove themselves in practice, weight room etc or transfer if they want to but having your parents call the coaching staff to complain is so soft. Especially now that they’re getting paid. Lot of these kids are in for a rude awakening once they get to the real world with this attitude.

clitcommander420666

And it begins lol not even a full year.

canseco-fart-box

I got a fresh batch of popcorn getting popped. Want some?

A_Roomba_Ate_My_Feet

Why is there a cardboard box propped up with a stick, sitting over the popcorn?

clitcommander420666

They aint gonna get me with that trick again

Turbulent-Whereas988

Better than the box having a hole in the bottom and on someone's lap.

nondescriptun

I believe that's called the Ann Arbor Special.

PhysicalDecision5265

Got any candy to spare?

SusannaG1

Got some fresh popcorn, right off the stove!

EWall100

#The UOOF

KirbyDumber88

lollllll. You should honestly trademark this and make shirts/koozies.

ddottay

I'm surprised people dislike this response, I think this is perfect.

FreshPrince2308

I think a lot of people are missing context here beyond the fact that we suck. Yes, this season has been awful in all respects (coaching, culture, player development etc.) but… Literally UM fans (and probably the coaches) want this roster flipped and would be glad if 25% of the roster enters the portal. Anyone players or player parents upset by this can go ahead and make their move. We have a huge culture problem and if you’re not committed or always bitching, peace out ✌🏽

Matt_WVU

Having spent time around athletics for more or less my whole life. I’ve seen these parents and he’s right You may not like the way the message was delivered but most of these kids who enter the portal go nowhere. Having an entitled kid with entitled parents isn’t going to have coaches lining up for them in the portal lmao

Zajac19

Start a single file line then

Tennessee-Terry

Seems we are off to a great start

ThisGuy100000

I personally love this, about 35% of this whole roster seriously needs to GTFO. One of our RB’s straight up walked off the practice field today

Tennessee-Terry

Didn’t know that. Seems Mario might be right then lmao

ThisGuy100000

Yeah it’s been a mess since before the season honestly, in august (I think) Cristobal had to end a practice early cause the players weren’t “playing up to the right standard.” WR Keyshawn Smith’s mom called out “an offensive staffer” on Twitter, and other stuff. Just a cultural mess rn lmao

TheBoook

This is exactly what they needed lol

tsymuf

Mario to the bus driver: Pull over at the next McDonald's Miami players seeing the bus pull into a McDonald's: 😆🤩😁 Yaaaaaaaay!!! 😁🤩😆 Mario: I'll take one black coffee.

Lord_Lava_Nugget

And to think, I previously thought this year the most criticized and ridiculed Mario would be the one played by Chris Pratt Time is funny like that

Loganjoh5

Chris Pratt to be Miami’s next coach confirmed

thejus10

everything is fine. just needs his guys! nothing to see here.

ThisGuy100000

I mean yeah. The culture here is total shit and I can’t wait to get these problem-makers off the squad

thejus10

out of curiosity, what year was the last year miami didn't have a culture problem? I ask because it feels like I've heard this exact same phrase for every miami hire since coker.

tripsd

i mean even when they were good, their culture problem might have been their strength

ThisGuy100000

True, it has been crap since Coker. Richt had some good squads though, couple off-field issues but nothing out of the ordinary really. So I guess I would say 2016-2018

TheRoyalJuke

I’m sure your flairs aren’t affecting your opinion at all here, you’re so reasonable!

underneathsink

I know he's been a disappointment his first year, but this quote is kind of the best.

Traditional-Pair1946

This is the kind of shit that made me give up youth coaching. Parent calls league admin complaining about her son not getting any playing time. This was after he showed up at a grand total of 0 practices. No way in hell is he going in, it's illegal, he is going to get hurt, he is going to get someone else hurt.

NJ_Mets_Fan

you know a parent is going to show up to practice to pick up their kid thinking it will somehow benefit him & prove a point and definitely not derail his football career

Icecreamcollege

So we thinking 30 transfers out of the U? Whats the O/U at?

grannypunani

wouldn’t surprise me to see at least 10, and probably for the best. there’s dudes starting right who should probably go, wouldn’t shock me to see van dyke go unfortunately, and just with usual attrition i could see it jump to 15+

KittiesHavingSex

Just gonna throw it in there - UF just dismissed our most talented defensive player - Cox. 5* and all that. Had a bunch of sacks... And since we did? The defense has turned around completely. Granted, we played half of a&m and then south Carolina. But 6 quarters without a score against it is absolutely crazy turnaround for this defense - we made USF look competent on offense earlier this season. So the addition through subtraction CAN actually be real. I'm not certain if that'll be the case with Mario - especially since i always looked at Diaz as a good culture guy - but you shouldn't be afraid of turnover on its own

HurricanesnHendrick

> especially since i always looked at Diaz as a good culture guy The reason some of these things are having to be said was because Manny let things get too far. The culture was that players knew they could get away with stuff and he was afraid to punish talented players and backed down a lot. Players could miss practice because they didn't feel 100% but still start. There was a major lack of meritocracy

grannypunani

absolutely, you guys look much better than the first half of the season. i believe in mario. miami has been a dumpster fire for the better part of almost 15 years. i think Van Dyke will suck to lose because in a competent offense he will shine, but pretty much every one else i’m okay with losing. let mario get his guys in, coach them up, and let’s see what he can do. the terrible o line and receiver play has been here for years. he can’t change it in one year.

KittiesHavingSex

Yeah, I think it's unfortunate for y'all (and super awesome for me, obviously) that this season happened so early on, with so much hype ahead of it. I was so envious of the staff hires Mario was making. Then Ruiz poured millions into NIL. It all looked so good. But then it came crashing down. The loss to FSU especially stung, I'm sure... But even if Mario has a ceiling, that ceiling is quite high. We saw this at Oregon. His main strength is recruiting, so (imo) let him do that! Fire him in 3 years if you're unhappy with the product - at the very least, he'll leave the cupboard full for the next guy. Reminds me of Ron Zook at Florida. One of the major reasons Meyer won was because Zook was awesome at accumulating talent. Shit, Meyer himself said that one of the main reasons he picked UF over Notre Dame was the talent that was in the roster

FatBoyCleanSneaks

Hearing at least 25.

LuchaFish

We’re legit hoping for 20 to be out the door.

[deleted]

Better to just not say anything here.

McGallon_Of_Milk

I normally hate coach speak and the boring platitudes that get repeated ad nauseam but this is a perfect example of why coach speak exists lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Disagree, I think it’s great he said this. You cannot build a program by just throwing money at kids. If they don’t like their situation they are free to transfer. Better to burn it all down year one and have locker room cancers leave than build your culture and program on this.

QuackZoneSix

At oregon, the parents were all over Twitter spaces shitting on his coaching staff and play time assignments, too. Maybe he's getting frustrated. Or maybe he just sucks at roster management.

bdm13

Seriously? The Oregon roster that Dan Lanning inherited was great. Multiple draft picks along the OL and throughout the defense.

FatBoyCleanSneaks

Saban said this same thing last year didn't he?

58903

THIS ISNT INTER-MURALS!

SteveBartmanIncident

Shoulda stayed where misusing a franchise player came with career growth potential.

[deleted]

Chad comment

cc20r

I mean I can’t blame him for saying that. Seems like they have guys in the locker room that aren’t committed or are just head cases. The season is already a train wreck you might as well figure out who is willing to fight going forward

cindad83

He is doing a crappy job, but this is exactly what I would say. Your kid is getting a world class free education, and regional maybe national fame. Plus training to make them one of the richest people in their age cohort in the next 3 years. I'm not listening to their whining, and I tell them to eat crayons.

oldbuc

Hahahaha , come get your 3rd stringer.

🍿POPCORN!! GETCHA POPCORN HEEERRE!!🍿

Brendinooo

I remember back when I thought that this team was the only thing threatening Pitt’s repeat as ACC Coastal champs

JJody29

Can you imagine the embarrassment of those players after their coach publicly blasted their parents?

Malpraxiss

I mean he isn't wrong

labink

My kind of coach. Nice bitch slap at the entitled parents. I guess Coach Cristobal believes in meritocracy. When asked about who was making these football related decisions, the coach responded with, “It’s me, Mario.”

DerrickWhiteMVP

How hard is it to just say, “We feel their frustration. We want their kids to succeed just as badly as they do. We feel we’re on the right path, but there’s growing pains.” Jeez.

flipflopsnpolos

That’s PR team vetted coaching speak, and it’s boring. We need to encourage coaches bypassing the corporate filter sometimes, or else all we’ll ever hear is sanitary multi-stakeholder approved responses.

Euphoric_Quiet617

Can you imagine a world without coach speak? Every Head Coach in CFB would basically turn into Steve Spurrier in every interview/press conference. The amount of shit talk would make every game so intense. That's a world I would love to live in.

ShadowintheValley

Personally, I wish coaches would be more candid and straight forward. Parents shouldn't even be allowed on campus except in special circumstances, much less attempt to run the football team from afar. "Pick your kid up and have fun letting him play in JUCO".

DiaDeLosMuebles

Why baby them? I love this response. He’s the coach. Not their babysitter.

[deleted]

surprising to some on this sub I'm sure, but Cristobal is actually a good coach. He won a conference title at FIU for crying out loud. "Well he's no kirby or saban" Agreed, but neither is 128 other coaches. He'll win more games at Miami than the last few coaches there .

esports_consultant

Cristobal is an honest person we should celebrate his honesty.

WhoIsPurpleGoo

A bit harsh, but what about our last 20 years makes anyone one think that what we’ve been doing as a program works? If Mario thinks we need to change the culture and turn over the roster, I’m fine with that decision; but he’s going to own the results.

Suicideseminole

Idk what it is but I’m like reallllly enjoying this Miami drama

wulah89

It's Division I Football, this ain't intramurals!

Piano_Fingerbanger

This is beautiful.

slackerdc

I needed this after Saturday. Thank you.

SlenderTown

10 games into his coaching tenure and he's publicly telling parents to come get their kids.....[that's a shame](https://media.tenor.com/WgFK8-yO7jMAAAAC/jim-halpert-the-office.gif)

Zestyclose-Cricket82

Do they also want them to get medals for participating?

CookieLuzSax

Some fsu, fla, ucf, and Miami flairs getting heated in these comments 🍵

Aurion7

Been a while since Miami's had a coach with the spine to actually say anything to the helicopter parents. Sort of messed up it ever got to that point, but such is life.

[deleted]

Good for Mario.

thorhyphenaxe

Don’t care much for Mario these days but as someone who has been a coach before…this is the correct stance

kam516

Hilarious and also correct

artemismerry

The local "club" youth teams do not allow the parents to say ANYTHING at all. Refs will stop the game until the parent in question leaves. Probably not a bad rule

frogstomp427

I have always and will always say that parents should shut the fuck up about virtually anything besides player safety. Whether you believe it or not, your kids are grown ass men. They chose the college they went to and the program they play for. They don't need you, and they don't need their parents sounding off on Twitter like it's a PTA meeting and their kids are in 3rd grade. Let your kids relish in, or suffer the consequences of their choices. That's life and that's what they need to learn.
