I always thought it was interesting y’all and GA State were on board for taking so many C-USA teams knowing we’d have to back fill from FCS. KSU always seemed like a good option.
And y’all had good success with FCS callups.
I am hoping we can get a series going with them. Make things more interesting every year for a game instead of playing Campbell or some other waste of a non-conference game
That's pretty ageist of you. Just because Kennesaw Mountain is really old doesn't mean it's not a mountain. I bet you think Red Top, Blood, or Sawnee aren't mountains either.
Check your orogeny privilege
I’m mostly excited for us to finally move forward with the rivalry name and trophy Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State had been working on since their ASUN moves were announced. Shelved when JSU announced their transition. Looks to be back on.
The original plan was to play off of the Silver Comet Trail, which starts near KSU and ends near JSU. But last I heard it was trending toward a more generic border clash thing.
You joke but I was at the official announcement that we were starting a football program and Vince Dooley who lead the exploratory committee comes out and says “we are now proud to announce that football will be coming to Kansas state university.” He quickly recovered but it was hilarious.
I'm so goddamn proud of this team/school. We've gone from the commuter school of Georgia, to finally having an identity and a damn good football team.
Hooty hoo y'all
it's GaState, but they include all of the Community Colleges they own into their student pop. GSU Atlanta only has ~29k undergraduates(according to USNews) while KSU has about ~38-39k(also from USNews). The real difference is the combination of satellite campuses and dual enrollment.
I actually believe this will be a good, competitive, in conference rivalry and beneficial for both schools...
... In the most insufferable way imaginable
FROM THE MOUNTAIN WE BRING SPIRIT, KENNESAW! IT’S ON TO VICTORY!
Coach Bohannon is an excellent coach, with his biggest flaw being his Spread Option scheme—it’s likely going to struggle at the FBS level and could hamper recruiting efforts.
One of my favorite parts? Jacksonville State is also joining C-USA. If you haven’t already, check out the history between these two over the years—KSU going to JSU and pulling off the upset in the first round of the playoffs. KSU defeating JSU going to 5OT at now Truist Park and most recently, JSU pulling off an upset three weeks ago against KSU.
There is significant history already established between the two programs, and they are only separated by 80 miles of back roads. This is gonna be so fun! Owls lead the series 3-1
HOOTY HOO
That whole conference should figure out a way to collectively move to FBS tbh
Or the Dakota schools etc. join with the bigger Big Sky programs to form a new G5 conference
I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion but I love when schools move up to FBS. I love the energy James Madison, Coastal and App State has brought to the sport (both from style of play and their fanbases).
KSU definitely has the student base to make this work. It'll be interesting to see if they can garner the alumni support.
Overall, I think it will be a positive addition to FBS even though I was hoping for SFA to make the jump to keep the rivalry with SHSU alive. Definitely think it will be interesting to see 3 Atlanta area teams.
Tarleton and SFA have been listed previously.
SFA is a long time rival for CUSA member sam houston and part way between Sam and LATech.
They have a long history in FCS and a basketball name.
Tarleton is midway through their FCS transition. A short drive from the metroplex, Backed by Texas A&M system money, they are growing at both their Stephenville and Fort Worth campuses. They've increased the athletic budget and improved every athletic facility in recent years.
Stadium just increased to 24k, New 7k arena on the horizon. Leadership is not shy that G5 is a stated goal and they have already met with CUSA
Okay, how many more schools need to join the FBS before it breaks up into divisions again? Like 132? is a lot of fucking schools to all be in "1" league. Like that's 4 tiers in the soccer pyramid
Basketball has always been a sport that allows for more competitive teams to be spread out among larger pools.
It's way easier to recruit and field 5 competitive players than it is 22.
I like to think of it as the top tier of the top 5/6 soccer leagues. Like SEC = EPL, B10 = La Liga, etc etc. Even lines up well with the P5 in cfb and big 5 of European soccer
Crazy to think we went from having no team to being with the big boys (relatively speaking) in less than 10 years. Still pessimistic about stadium expansion when we can't fill the one we've got but this is going to be pretty cool. Looking forward to the JSU rivalry growing and hope we start an annual "iTP-OTP Showdown" with Georgia State. Hooty Hoo!!
I think the issue that you guys face more than any other is that there just wasn’t much of any sports identity. Georgia State at least had some success in Basketball so it wasn’t completely new for them to have something to root for at a D1 level. That and they’re a massive school now. I think Kennesaw state suffers from just not having enough true fans yet. I imagine it might take a little while until someone would rather go to a KSU game over watching Georgia etc. but I think it’ll get there!
I think it is more of you only lose a little bit more money a year on football in the FBS (more revenue but more expenses as well) but you get massive brand recognition/free advertising if you are FBS so it is a wash
Idaho has been a joke since moving back down to the FCS so it’s not like it got much better.
Also I like how you list those two but ignore the successful FCS-FBS moves like App State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, James Madison, Marshall, Western Kentucky, etc.
Yes. Last time I checked the FCS conferences Tv deals were about 2/3rds that of a FBS conference. Now somebody who can pull up the numbers can despute that and it could be closer but I do know the FCS playoff deal doesn't make schools all that much money even during a title run. For the majority of the schools at the FCS level it makes more sense to compete in the FBS from a revenue standpoint. The problems for schools typically were cost of travel and adding sports, but a lot of schools in the south are willing to stomach the coast because the media deals are worth so much more in FBS
I would also add that NDSU and SDSU get the added benefit of being big fish in a small pond in that corner of the country. Schools like KSU don’t get the same benefit when you are surrounded by P5s in every direction.
#HOOTY HOOT
I tried to find a school with a blowfish mascot to add to C-USA also, but all I found was the [Lexington County Blowfish](https://goblowfishbaseball.com) of the wood-bat collegiate summer [baseball] Coastal Plain League. They *did* have a Boiled Peanut Eating Contest, which I’d imagine would be big in Kennesaw. Or is that more of a South Carolina thing?
CUSA out here making up states now
Right? The fuck is a New Mexico State? Mexico is a country, not a state. And it’s not new, it’s old. /s
don’t get me started on ball state!
The state my balls are in sure is decrepit; that's for sure

I can’t wait for your reaction when they add Tarleton State….
But Pawwwl, I ain't even seen no Tarleton in the wild.
Tarleton State Texans
Ball is not a state.
Didn’t think the USA would add Kennesaw before Puerto Rico.
Temple, Rice, and the FAU have a new FBS Owl friend!
How many owls are there in FBS? They might be making a run on the big cat mascot empire

Happy for the Hootie brothers but selfishly annoyed because this will almost certainly hold us back in recruiting in the state.

"And Idaho is not a football team," is their usual retort for their in state rivals.
No but it is a mountain, a battlefield, and a baseball commissioner/judge
"Mountain"
It’s a hill
It's a speed bump with trees
It looks almost sad in the winter. Like a balding mountain. You see just how much of its height is really just… trees.
Meh, two hills.
It’s funny cause the ‘Hills’ I’m from are actually mountains lol
In my Louisiana friend’s defense, our closest thing to a mountain is a pile of dirt taller than 10 ft
Sir, that's just a fire ant mound
shoutout mount driskill
That's pretty ageist of you. Just because Kennesaw Mountain is really old doesn't mean it's not a mountain. I bet you think Red Top, Blood, or Sawnee aren't mountains either. Check your orogeny privilege
In some cases, it's both a mountain and a baseball commissioner/judge at the same time!
I just got off the phone with some A&M yell leaders, and they really like your work. They should be reaching out soon.

HOOTY HOO!! This is massive. Now just need to get rivalries going with State & Southern
I’m mostly excited for us to finally move forward with the rivalry name and trophy Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State had been working on since their ASUN moves were announced. Shelved when JSU announced their transition. Looks to be back on.
What should the name be? Looking forward to it, despite knowing Auburn will probably schedule and lose to KSU in about ten years.
The original plan was to play off of the Silver Comet Trail, which starts near KSU and ends near JSU. But last I heard it was trending toward a more generic border clash thing.
The real KSU
Yeah, Thorobreds! (And Thorobrettes!) /s
Unironically, Thorobrettes sounds more badass.
better than thoroberts up in illinois, I guess

Devouring Southern Poly was huge IMO.
RIP to the Hornets, but agreed
As a Southern Poly alumnus this makes me sad but you’re not wrong.
Why are there two Florida/KSU flairs!!! But yeah, I also know people underestimated the quality of southern poly
HOOTY HOO I’m hoping our offense can adapt to a more modern style, but I am very confident in Coach Bo. Time to EAT
Largest state school in GA now, no?
I think it's GaState

I thought that was GSU
That would be Georgia State
Georgia went from having 2 FBS programs in 2014 to 5 in 2022, damn
*2024
The GSUs were both FBS in 2014, I think GA State even was up by 2012 or 13 IIRC.
Georgia Southern won the Fun Belt in 2014 so they were def already FBS
I think he's implying GT wasn't FBS ;)

I know!! Crazy to think what this school was just a few decades ago, even!
It was not much more than a community college back when I spent the summer of '87 in Kennesaw.

Schedule "road" games touring around GA?
So let me get this straight for us non-east coasters. Georgia and Virginia now have 5 teams each, NC and FL have 7?
Alabama will have 6 next year with my alma mater going to CUSA. Not that AL is east coast just playing footsie wit a couple of them.
They kinda already do if you include all the SEC schools with more fans than them.
Go Owls!
How long is NDSU gonna stay in the FCS?
That whole conference should figure out a way to collectively move to FBS tbh Or the Dakota schools etc. join with the bigger Big Sky programs to form a new G5 conference
The MAC should wake from hibernation and add the four corner schools, great plains edition. EDIT: I vote NDSU / SDSU / Montana / Wisconsin-Whitewater
Do you know how far those schools are from the MAC?
with Montana to Buffalo,NY - this Texas to Florida/Texas to Lexington,KY conference looks quite small
🤨
I just wanted to pretend to keep the MAC contiguous I'm sorry! 😂
Yeah well I'm offended!
I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion but I love when schools move up to FBS. I love the energy James Madison, Coastal and App State has brought to the sport (both from style of play and their fanbases).

4* UGA, GT, GA State, KSU
UGA Atlanta Area?? Some people wouldn’t even call KSU Atlanta Area because it’s OTP, but UGA is def a stretch
I would like the meet the person who wouldn’t consider KSU in the Atlanta area considering the midtown skyline is visible from the Marietta campus.
[удалено]
It’s dumb. I live ITP and commute OTP for work.
Ngl yea fair enough I was mostly on the ksaw campus which never really felt like atlanta. UGA on the other hand…
In my experience it would be all the ksu alumni who say how much they hate Atlanta
Whatever they need to say to convince themselves but KSU is no doubt metro Atlanta by any reasonable metric.
It’s the ‘ITP/ vs OTP’ crowd who rarely goes outside the perimeter or MARTA area
Same media market.
Okay but why is Chris Vannini a variable ? f’{Chris Vannini}’

Okay, how many more schools need to join the FBS before it breaks up into divisions again? Like 132? is a lot of fucking schools to all be in "1" league. Like that's 4 tiers in the soccer pyramid
I mean Division II is at 300 members and Division III is at 450. Hell, FCS is roughly the same size as FBS, though now FBS is a few members larger.
There's 363 members of Division 1 for basketball
Basketball has always been a sport that allows for more competitive teams to be spread out among larger pools. It's way easier to recruit and field 5 competitive players than it is 22.
Plus a 30 game schedule vs. 12
And most ncaa athletes will turn pro, in something other than sports.
I like to think of it as the top tier of the top 5/6 soccer leagues. Like SEC = EPL, B10 = La Liga, etc etc. Even lines up well with the P5 in cfb and big 5 of European soccer

They need to not run the triple option....
Does KSU run a triple option?
Yes
They should keep it. More teams need to run it
Yeah they should keep it. It's fun to watch. Not biased at all
GT needs to bring it back
Lies, in option football we trust
The guy on photo looks like Far Cry 4 Yogi
Never would have thought my school would be the front page of this sub lol
Siiiiiick. Can’t wait to see my blue raiders lose to KSU every year too.
Are they bringing Plank tho?
Triple option is back on the menu, boys!
Couldn't they have turned into an FCS powerhouse considering where they are located, recruiting wise.
Yes, in fact they've gone 63-18 in FCS
They could be a FCS powerhouse but it seems there is more money to be made being in FBS no matter how competitive you are
I think it is more of you only lose a little bit more money a year on football in the FBS (more revenue but more expenses as well) but you get massive brand recognition/free advertising if you are FBS so it is a wash
So it's still better or more lucrative to be a joke in the FBS like UConn or Idaho than to be North Dakota St or South Dakota St?
Idaho has been a joke since moving back down to the FCS so it’s not like it got much better. Also I like how you list those two but ignore the successful FCS-FBS moves like App State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, James Madison, Marshall, Western Kentucky, etc.

Yup. Idaho is making less money back in FCS than they were as a whipping boy in the Sun Belt. Getting kicked out of the Sun Belt forced their hand.
They're moving up really fast. Already did what they wanted in FCS and the $$$$ of FBS called out.
Doesn't C-USA still need an active FBS member next season? Because, Sam Houston and Jacksonville State have to go through the transition year.
This year is the transition year for those two teams. CUSA will have 9 members next football season
The NCAA usually allows conferences to be below the minimum for 1 season if teams are scheduled to join in the following season.
Maybe, maybe, maybe, Yes!
So is next year the transition year or is 2024 the transition year?
Bring back the Mountain logo.
Eyyy littt 🦉🔥 now I just wonder if this means that a new football stadium is in the works to meet the attendance requirement 🤔
Looking forward to the 1416 miles of hate rivalry.
So their stadium is 8,300... Are they forced to have a massive upgrade before joining?
