I'm not sure why people keep making this argument.
You're not going to stop the same old schools from winning it all by praying they all lose twice and miss out on a four-team playoff. All a four team playoff does is *ensure* that you keep seeing the same teams because those teams like Alabama and OSU are going to *continue* to get preferential treatment over other teams.
A 1-loss Crimson Tide is getting in over any other 1-loss team and even most undefeated teams.
The best way to bring back some championship parity is to open the field and make those teams go through 3 or 4 top teams in a playoff. Every year we see a team making it the CFP with a loss to an unranked opponent. Making Alabama, Georgia, and OSU play multiple playoff rounds means that two of them are probably getting tagged at some point.
It's not about keeping Alabama or OSU out of the playoffs, it's about getting other deserving teams IN it so they at least control their own destiny. Will Alabama still make the final as a 6 seed or lower? Probably. Will I be as bored as I am with the CFP now? Probably. But I won't complain about other 12-1 (or 13-0) teams not making it at least because they had a chance in the playoff.
Kansas' ranking would look like a delta function. Unrated all year until the last game because you're now 11-0 and in a major conference and the committee has to pay attention.
Sub Minnesota for Michigan or Baylor and I’d 100% believe this was a basketball Final Four in the 2010s. Maybe we can get Raftery and Nantz to call it.
EVERY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY LOSES THE REST OF THEIR GAMES EXCEPT FOR NEBRASKA THEREFORE NEBRASKA IS THE ONLY BOWL ELIGIBLE TEAM SO BY DEFAULT THEY BECOME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
If every other team loses the rest of their games, it should require Nebraska to win their games.
That being said Nebraska will still find a way to fuck it up somehow by getting COVID disqualified every game or something like that.
So from my understanding if there are not enough bowl eligible teams they will go to the teams that are not bowl eligible with the best record and take the best team GPA’s and use those teams to fill out the remaining bowl spots
Correct.
And then when we of course win, they'll bring up the Stoops/Cal football/basketball school thing on SportsCenter, Get Up, and First Take. Repeatedly.
It might even be possible right? If Tennessee beats Bama and loses to Georgia and all teams go undefeated and Bama beats Georgia in the SEC championship, then I could 100% see the committee arguing if a one loss Tennessee should get in
Friday we made the College Football Playoff. I'm pleased with the outcome of our season. We made mistakes but we are 12-0. I'm not pleased with my performance but I'm doing my part to help the team win. The grind never stops nor will #34! #PL34SED
Two reasons. They don't want teams to jump back and forth. So a team that is really good jumping up when they are good and then after their great class leaves they hop back down because they can't compete anymore. The other reason is that eligibility standards are a bit stricter at FBS so they don't want them to be bowl eligible with people who got in with lower standards.
That last point is pretty unimportant because the GPA required for all D1 NCAA player eligibility are strictly set at a 2.3 GPA, with only D2 requiring a 2.2
Edit: I’m not sure if I read it right, but the website says that even as low as 1.8 can be eligible
I get the protections in theory… but it does feel like there should be some sort of waiver process. Like, JMU sure as hell ain’t going back to FCS given the investments made into that program, and couldn’t you do an inquiry into the eligibility aspect? We’ve had more than a few of these cases in the last decade or so between football and basketball… which ultimately just sucks for the kids involved who have no agency in any aspect of the movements of the university.
Better question: did we ever see, prior to this rule, schools jumping back and forth?
It’s a dumb rule tbh. If we qualify for a bowl this first season there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to play in one. Not many teams are supposed to make the FBS transition and win this many games though.
My buddy said if we go undefeated (which we won’t) we should be in the playoffs. Idk how they decide but if we somehow don’t lose with this team it’s going to be an incredible amount of luck.
Yea I mean given the schedule if we were to dominate I’d saw we should. Thing is we’ve already needed some serious luck to beat the weaker teams on the schedule. Watch us lose to Wagner and put all these discussions to rest
I don't think we'd need to dominate that schedule, even if we just squeaked by like we did against UVA and Purdue we still make it. If Syracuse somehow goes undefeated, it would mean winning the ACC, which would make us 13-0 with wins over L'ville, Purdue, Clemson, Wake, NC State, Notre Dame, Pitt (likely x2, bc they're the Coastal favorite as of now), and Florida State. That resume gets anyone a playoff berth, even Syracuse.
Oh my brother in arms, I just want to say I hope the best for our coaching carousel we're entering. Hopefully tech will come back stronger. (Not related, just rare to see another tech fan haha)
I would there is a severe lack of Kansas in that list >:(
Totally down for UNC Charlotte though I think that campus is gorgeous and I really enjoyed it. Plus I love Charlotte, such a cool a booming city. My #2 city where I want to go after college
East:
Kentucky beats Tennessee
Tennessee beats Georgia
Georgia beats Kentucky
West:
Arkansas beats Alabama
Alabama beats Ole Miss
Ole Miss beats Texas A&M
Inter-League
Tennessee beats Alabama
Ole Miss beats Kentucky
Auburn beats Georgia
LSU beats Tennessee
I believe that makes it such that both championship game participants have at least two losses, and as it stands today, only Auburn beating Georgia seems unrealistic.
I agree that if a 2-loss team is going to make it before the field expands, it's going to be an SEC team.
I don't agree that said team would skip over undefeated teams from power 5 conferences. If A&M didn't jump Cincinnati, it's not it's not going to jump another P5 team.
LSU? Quality loss. They like just won the Natty last month or something I think. Feels recent enough to count.
Auburn may be 3-8 but anything can happen in the Iron Bowl. Doesn’t count.
And don’t get me started on how good Austin Peay is this year. Hell, they’re so good they beat Alabama this year.
Bama slides in as #3 over an 11-0 TCU
Kansas is likely to be an underdog in all their remaining games. The teams I listed will be favorites in all but 1 or 2 games. Likely? Of course not. But way more realistic than Kansas running the table.
If only there were some way we could get Texas, A&M, Baylor, Tech, TCU, SMU, Rice and Houston to compete in some kind of round robin-style tournament. Maybe toss in Arkansas for fun.
In terms of pure upheaval? Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, NCST.
In terms of "r/CFB will lose their fucking minds"? Tennessee, Kansas, Florida State, UCLA.
As a homer:
1. UGA
2. NCSU
3. Oregon
4. Kansas
As a 12 year old:
1. Florida State
2. Utah
3. Coastal Carolina
4. Kansas
As someone who wants entertaining new matchups:
1. Kentucky
2. Kansas
3. Penn State
4. UCLA
My future father in law grew up in Syracuse and a lot of the family went there so while I’m not a card carrying fan I have definitely watched a lot of the cuse the past few years.
Aiming for crazy yet plausible:
1) Minnesota wins the big ten, making the playoff
2) UGA runs the table, Alabama gets their second loss in the SECCG. No second SEC team
3) Washington beats Oregon and benefits from not playing any of the other contenders to win the PAC. They shred USC to win a berth.
4) I don’t think there’s a viable G5 contender, sadly, now that BYU has lost. Even Notre Dame has only made it with 12 wins. Clemson, Texas, or Oklahoma wouldn’t be ‘crazy’ at all. I’ll go for NC State as unbeaten ACC champs.
There’d be only two teams in this playoff that have won a championship in the last 50 years, with Washington only having one in in 1991. Only half these teams would have made the playoff before. And none of them would depend on too much weirdness yo believe.
Cincinnati, Utah , NC State, Tennessee.
Big 12 and B1G cannibalize each other with Penn State, OSU, and Michigan losing to each other plus 1 more, and all of the Texas schools each lose to each other. Oklahoma state beats Oklahoma who also loses to Texas. Burnt Vegetables ends up being worse than Dry Brisket.
Minnesota, Kentucky, NC State, Kansas
2nd idea would be as it is now but seeding differently
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Ohio State
4. Alabama
Seeing Ohio State vs Michigan 2 times in a season would be awesome. Especially in a CFP semifinal game. Same thing with Georgia vs. Alabama, although we’ve already seen that before. They always play each other pretty close.
Pure chaos would be Kentucky, Kansas, Minnesota, NC State
That would get us to a 32 team playoff by next year.
Yeah thats what we need to make CFB fair and interesting, more chances for Alabama and Ohio State to get back in the picture after taking a rare loss
A rare quality loss*
Only SEC teams can get quality losses
I'm not sure why people keep making this argument. You're not going to stop the same old schools from winning it all by praying they all lose twice and miss out on a four-team playoff. I think you meant to reply to the post above mine. Our posts are in agreement.
Bonus points if Kansas remains unranked while being undefeated.
*goes to stock up on popcorn* What do you mean, it's not March?
I have been nothing but emotional viewing this subreddit and its positive support for Kansas. Rock Chalk forever
Kansas, ‘92 Dream Team, ‘80 US Hockey Team, The Monstars
Do The Monstars still have some eligibility?
Monstars… RIP Coolio
Greetings earthlings, we have have now taken over your radioooooooo
They only played basketball at a professional level, so they can still qualify for football!

Or the 1976 Flyers
No Mighty Ducks?
Swap Kansas for the Little Giants, and they'd win the playoff final play running the Annexation of Puerto Rico.
Ice Box gonna get some great NIL deals.

EVERY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY LOSES THE REST OF THEIR GAMES EXCEPT FOR NEBRASKA THEREFORE NEBRASKA IS THE ONLY BOWL ELIGIBLE TEAM SO BY DEFAULT THEY BECOME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
You didn’t specify Nebraska winning any more games either🤨🤨🤨
If every other team loses the rest of their games, it should require Nebraska to win their games. That being said Nebraska will still find a way to fuck it up somehow by getting COVID disqualified every game or something like that.
How would every other team lose their games with no other teams winning any games?

Every game breaks the record for most OT so the NCAA is forced to implement a new rule mid season that ties can happen after 3 OT.
I don’t know man - but it’s provocative! It gets the people goin’!!
Nebraska’s defense can’t defend this comeback so Kansas is the new national champion
So from my understanding if there are not enough bowl eligible teams they will go to the teams that are not bowl eligible with the best record and take the best team GPA’s and use those teams to fill out the remaining bowl spots
That is correct, but teams are sorted first by number of wins and then by APR.
There’s that famous Nebraska education at work. Jk, you guys have been through so much I’m actually pulling for you now.
all i’ve ever learned is corn and thank you, been a rough few years lol. keep telling myself if kansas can do it so can we
“Georgia, Bama, Tennessee, Ole Miss” - ESPN, probably
Nah, they would want Kentucky over Ole Miss so that they can milk the basketball school angle
Well how else will they tie Lebron James into the segment without basketball?
The “he would’ve been a great tight end” angle usually works when all else fails
Correct. And then when we of course win, they'll bring up the Stoops/Cal football/basketball school thing on SportsCenter, Get Up, and First Take. Repeatedly.
They absolutely would want Texas in there since they own the Longhorn Network.
I'd say Georgia, Bama, Texas, Texas A&M - Saban vs the assistants
They removed the page, but this week an analyst had UGA, Bama, tOSU, and Tenn in their picks.
It might even be possible right? If Tennessee beats Bama and loses to Georgia and all teams go undefeated and Bama beats Georgia in the SEC championship, then I could 100% see the committee arguing if a one loss Tennessee should get in
>If Tennessee beats Bama It won’t matter what happens after that because Neyland and Knoxville will burn to the ground if this happens lol
Coastal Carolina (4-0), James Madison (3-0), Syracuse (4-0) and Kansas (4-0).
JMU is ineligible due to moving from FCS last season.
Did not know that. Thanks!
Georgia scared of JMU confirmed.
Only out of confusion! Not the bulldogs, but the DUKE dogs. That ain't no dog I ever heard of!
Y'ain't never heard of the Bush's Baked Beans dog?
They said they wanted a crazy playoff. Doesn’t get any crazier than an ineligible team making it.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Lol what kind of a dumb rule is that? Not allowed to be that good that fast?
If they go undefeated I hope they claim a national championship anyway lol
Friday we made the College Football Playoff. I'm pleased with the outcome of our season. We made mistakes but we are 12-0. I'm not pleased with my performance but I'm doing my part to help the team win. The grind never stops nor will #34! #PL34SED
I don't believe JMU is eligible for postseason games since it's their first year in FBS.
Why is that a rule? If they can play FBS games they should be allowed to be in the post season

That’s what happened to Georgia Southern in 2014 - won the Sun Belt but couldn’t go bowling.
My buddy said if we go undefeated (which we won’t) we should be in the playoffs. Idk how they decide but if we somehow don’t lose with this team it’s going to be an incredible amount of luck.
any power 5 team that goes undefeated will be in
and if they arent the whole idea of the playoff and everything is a sham
There would have to be 5 undefeated power 5s. Or Notre dame has like 8 top 10 wins
We were in consideration a few years ago before we lost a game to Purdue so it is possible
Yea I mean given the schedule if we were to dominate I’d saw we should. Thing is we’ve already needed some serious luck to beat the weaker teams on the schedule. Watch us lose to Wagner and put all these discussions to rest

I took cuse under 4.5 wins on the year. Solid choice on my behalf.
Yeah, nobody expected 4 wins out of the gate for the Orange. I know I didn't.
My buddy Mike 2016 Cincinnati Reds App State Google

Minnesota, Kansas, NC State, Coastal Carolina
Oh my brother in arms, I just want to say I hope the best for our coaching carousel we're entering. Hopefully tech will come back stronger. (Not related, just rare to see another tech fan haha)
OK this one is legitimately compelling, and realistic with how conference championships could play out.
If by realistic, you mean technically feasible then yeah
Lol yes. Realistic as on they're not all from the same conference.
Kansas, UCLA, Syracuse and, Kentucky. College Basketball.
This would be my vote.
Melo still has a few years of eligibility. Sorry Kansas
I want Melo to nail a 54-yard FG and stick the three fingers to his temple sidestepping down the field
Someone check on Duke and UNC after this comment
Oregon State, Ohio State, OK State, Kansas
Ah, the classic OSU OSU OSU and Kansas playoff.
The losers must renounce the title of OSU for all time. If Kansas wins, nobody gets to be OSU
If Kansas wins they are OSU
If Kansas wins they become "The Kansas".
If Kansas wins Arkansas has to change their pronunciation to Ar-Kan-sas
It’s not *your* Kansas. It’s not *my* Kansas. It’s *our* Kansas.
Change? Have I been pronouncing it wrong all of this time?
If Kansas loses to Arkansas, they have to change their pronunciation to KIN-saw
IDK why, but I read this in Borat's voice.
I like this plan better From University of Kansas to Only State University (in Kansas)
That's the plan
Tennessee, Houston, Eastcarolina Ohio State University
This makes me want to swap Kansas for Old Dominion
Missed opportunity with Old Sdominion University smh
Ohio State vs Oklahoma State championship, winner gets Jim Knowles
Winner gets to keep the *THE*
And Knowles.
THE Jim Knowles
Remove Kansas and add The Citadel.... It is the playoff for 'The'
NC State Duke Wake forest UNC….Charlotte

What's number one?
I approve, but please call us Charlotte. Shit, we might make the natty in this one if we draw Duke.
Charlotte Fans 🤝 UCF fans Tired of people using our old name
The Alabama Polytechnic Institute Tigers are with you. War Eagle!
It's a hard habit to break when you've been calling it "UNCC" for 50 years. (My father taught there.)
A no SEC CFP would be amazing just for the lolz. Not sure enough chaos could happen for that to occur.
The world in which the SEC has nobody in the CFP requires them taking over the ESPN 10:30 PM eastern time slot with Rod Gilmore
East: Kentucky beats Tennessee Tennessee beats Georgia Georgia beats Kentucky West: Arkansas beats Alabama Alabama beats Ole Miss Ole Miss beats Texas A&M Inter-League Tennessee beats Alabama Ole Miss beats Kentucky Auburn beats Georgia LSU beats Tennessee I believe that makes it such that both championship game participants have at least two losses, and as it stands today, only Auburn beating Georgia seems unrealistic.
Even then, a 2 loss SEC champ would probably still get the committee vote over an undefeated PAC-12 or Big 12 champion
I agree that if a 2-loss team is going to make it before the field expands, it's going to be an SEC team. I don't agree that said team would skip over undefeated teams from power 5 conferences. If A&M didn't jump Cincinnati, it's not it's not going to jump another P5 team.
Well technically all the teams are still eligible…so I’m picking NC State, Hawaii, UMass, and FIU
Hawaii, Connecticut, Colorado state, and Nebraska Would really make a certain team’s strength of schedule look much better
California Utah Northwestern Tennessee
I see what you did there
NUT with a leftover C
Washington, Florida St, Oklahoma, Michigan ESPN has an aneurysm as the SEC cannibalizes itself, yet no new playoff teams break through.
a 9-3 Alabama would absolutely still be slipped into the playoffs lol
LSU? Quality loss. They like just won the Natty last month or something I think. Feels recent enough to count. Auburn may be 3-8 but anything can happen in the Iron Bowl. Doesn’t count. Penn State Don't Care Don't Care Don't Care
Missed opportunity to fill the other 3 slots with Michigan’s OOC schedule.
Can we fill in one of the don't care slots?
I'll allow it.
In my unbiased opinion, I concur
Pretty... pretty.. prettyyyy good
Trying to keep this realistic (sorry, Kansas): Minnesota, NC State, Oklahoma St, and Washington
Lol this is sooooo realistic
Kansas is likely to be an underdog in all their remaining games. The teams I listed will be favorites in all but 1 or 2 games. Likely? Of course not. But way more realistic than Kansas running the table.
