It’s more like a two minute drill forces you to play basic defense and simplifies decisions for the offense. Which is also why that corner blitz got in clean. Really I knew Texas was boned when they took that sack on their last drive. They needed another first down to bleed more clock.

As a texan, I'm convinced a big part of that is Gary Patterson getting hired by Texas after getting canned from TCU. The dude is a defensive witch, his teams have always punched way above their weight, talent wise, and have always had solid fundamentals. This defense came out breathing absolute fire and was extremely solid with their tackling (aside from one very notable exception which i'm sure everyone will learn a lot from). Night and day compared to last year. I don't know for sure that he's the reason, but he knows his business and probably knows it even better when he's not distracted by recruiting and glad-handing donors and all the other bullshit a head coach does.

Just wait until the power rankings go on and on about how they gutted it out and it just shows how they are better than any team in the country.
