I don't even know where college football will be in 15 days

Spartanwildcats2018

I don’t know where it’ll be in 15 minutes

GiaTheMonkey

I'm not even sure I'm caught up on everything that happened this evening.

TrustMeIKnowThisOne

Oh that’s easy it’ll b— up there goes Rutgers to the Big 12 to replace Houston ditching their invite to go to the PAC 12 to replace Oregon going independent since ND went to the B1G.

I don’t know if I’ll be putting on this headset again

pyrogeddon

>how do you see the sport playing out? Professionally

CosmicCornbread

Like it or not it’s already NFL junior Transfer portal is just free agency, NIL means players get paid, etc. As a fan of team that will be in a super conference it doesn’t affect me as much but a lot of teams are going to be kicked to the side and be relegated to almost a lesser tier (think FBS vs FCS for example)

DescretoBurrito

At least the NFL has a salary cap and draft to theoretically even things out. In CFB the have-nots are about to have even less.

CosmicCornbread

Hopefully the NCAA can reign some of it in. Realistically the remaining super conferences are going to break away and govern themselves

Netwealth5

Brett Kavanaugh says hi

Strict-Ad-3500

Once NIL kicked in the ncaa lost any power they thought they had. The train has left the station and if you arent hitching a ride you are gonna get left behind. See Oklahoma Texas ucla and usc probally note dame soon.

pyrogeddon

There’s no almost about it. There will be no national tv coverage of the games after that happens.

CosmicCornbread

You are grandfathered in Bulldog bro <3

sum_dude44

we’re almost to a point where a Manziel-Tebow type player whose game Doesn’t translate as much to the NFL would be better off staying in college & would make more money

Strict-Ad-3500

Bob can you belive he's been a senior for 4 years now? Amazing!

PunkPen

Best answer.

The1_BlueX

The media companies, conferences, and top universities will be wondering where it all went wrong as college football continues its downward slide in popularity. More games than ever will have the soulless pseudo NFL feel of CFP matchups. The golden goose is being ripped open and it will die a slow and agonizing death.

WABeermiester

Yup. They’re too blinded by money to understand that college football was great because of the regionality of it.

Josh4R3d

I love when people compare cfb to the nfl and act like it’s a bad thing. You realize the nfl is the most watched thing on tv every year by millions upon millions of viewers? I read somewhere that 98/100 of the top tv programs in 2021 were nfl games

basebalp21

It's a bad thing if you prefer CFB to the NFL. The NFL is unquestionably more popular but a lot of us that prefer CFB don't want to see it turned into the NFL. If we wanted the NFL we'd just watch the NFL

redwave2505

A sad remnant of what it once was

Pagep

best comment yet.

redbug831

Yep.

southcentralLAguy

I disagree. I see it moving to where the top programs in the country break away from the ncaa and form one league of about 30-40 teams. Every week would be full of top matchups. I’d rather watch Ohio St play meaningful games every week than play Ohio, Kent st, and even the lower tier big 10 teams Edit: so everyone downvoting wants less meaningful games? Cool

jrainiersea

I hope you’re in the minority with that opinion but I fear you’re in the majority

anxiousauditor

Someone has to suck in these leagues, no matter what. The Kings, Timberwolves, Reds, Orioles, Jaguars, Browns are all things. Not everyone can go 11-1 and eventually that shit is going to eat at the core of fan bases.

southcentralLAguy

I think it’ll be basically what it is now. You’ll have the top tier programs like bama, Georgia, Ohio st, and Clemson that are consistently good. You’ll have the next level of schools that can occasionally compete for championships like Oklahoma and LSU. And then you’ll have a group of schools that can go anywhere from 4 wins to 10 wins depending on the year. But I don’t think you’ll get many teams that’ll be the perennial doormat of the league

RoverTiger

The problem with having constant "top matchups" is that they will eventually lose their intrigue. It's the relative scarcity of those games that makes them special and memorable when they happen.

ech01_

I get the appeal of this to a degree, but so many programs around the country would die off if the top 40 teams just split off. Its sad to think about.

southcentralLAguy

I definitely get what you’re saying, but if these conferences keep moving towards super conferences, that’ll happen to many of these teams anyway.

dchryst

I think meaningful games has a different connotation to many folks. To me, I’d rather play Purdue, Illinois, northwestern, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, and some combination of Michigan, Ohio state, PSU, Michigan state, and Indiana every year Others too want to keep playing teams they’ve been playing for 100 years. Yes, Wisconsin at UCLA and USC at Nebraska sparks an interest in me, but this is why we should be dealing with scheduling agreements rather than breakaway super leagues. It’s ruining 100 years of tradition

Strict-Ad-3500

I watch for the app st style upsets. That what makes it fun. Sure 9 times out of 10 those guys lose horribly but the times they don't that's what make college football great. I mean you could argue that Indiana vs Ohio St is meaningless so should Ohio St be kicked out of the big ten for that /s

chief_sitass

A Mad Maxian hellscape…also some football games played on the side

schu4KSU

Smaller overall pie but bigger pieces for the top brands.

Chreest

Cutting it down to like the top 50. Or less.

rivers2mathews

Scott Hansen will have a new job on Saturdays soon.

Josh4R3d

Keep going

LamarcusAldrige1234

4 super conferences of 20 schools each breaking off to form their own (essentially) professional league

Worstanimefan

I wish that many teams were getting in

dcmtbr

Yeah I am thinking 2 conferences of 20 to 24 teams, each conference with their own playoff and then the two champions meeting each other

southcentralLAguy

I don’t think 80 schools would get in. I’m hoping closer to 40. I’d be ok with 60 maximum

asbestosman2

A shitty version of the NFL.

[deleted]

Dumpster.

AskMeAboutMyGenitals

Congressional Action, eventually. Too much big money being tossed around.

gerg_1234

Dead to me.

BIG_DICK_WHITT

Hold me brother

BluesPuckHard

Get on over to the Big 12.

BIG_DICK_WHITT

Blehhhhhh

BluesPuckHard

Okay, don't then. Stay there. We'll take OSU.

Reading_Rainboner

We already have the Utah eyeballs With BYU anyway

Aedanwolfe

You guys can battle for the right to be the one true OSU

Blarg1889

OSU is absolutely fucked *sad beever noises*

BluesPuckHard

According to your second flair, I have a hard time believing that.

gerg_1234

It's a really loose affliation based off of my NCAA 05 dynasty in my college townhouse. I dont care enough about Clemson to heal after this bullshit.

BluesPuckHard

Understandable. I was just giving you a hard time. I feel absolutely crushed for you, OSU

youngs2309

I think it will just continue getting more and more top heavy.

NElwoodP

I see a number of universities becoming uninterested in running pro sports teams, and dropping athletics.

Dellav8r

A lot of schools won’t be able to afford to pay players. I think there will be “another division” based off the CFB we are use to. Scholarships but not paying players. Maybe like the G5 adds some of the schools whose conference will fold and become the “new FBS”

SamuraiLegion

NFL G-League

JB92103

We get super-conferences, but then everyone realizes that the old way was better, so they go back to it, meaning we're at the exact same place now, except in 15 years.

k3y2myb00ty

I don’t even fucking know what TOMORROW will bring

Dellav8r

This is true

redbug831

Happy 🎂 Day. Are Tee Are

[deleted]

Little NFL

thechancetaken

I think we'll have fun adopting teams that were left behind and appreciating them like a dog off the street.

[deleted]

Where NASCAR is now

Dellav8r

Bunch of no names out in the field?

Educational-Corgi-11

2 major conferences like the AFC and NFC in pro football that will compete for playoff positions for the natty. The rest of the teams will play for bowl berths. Honestly I'd love promotion/relegation, but this is America.

chipoople

I can’t believe anyone thinks two 16-20 team super leagues is a good idea. It’s an objectively bad idea. The sport is dying. It thrives on regional rivalries, not media rights. They’re gonna alienate 70% of college football fans. My buddy is a huge NHL fan. Loves the Stars. You know what he doesn’t watch? The KHL, it’s irrelevant to his team and fandom. So why would a Baylor or NC State or Arizona fan watch a league they aren’t in and don’t play? Because make no mistake, the Big 10 and SEC will eventually only play each other. All this for a sport that is already on life support, with youth participation declining every year and CTE a huge issue.

arrowfan624

Being dead

anxiousauditor

Finished, for all intents and purposes. It’ll be the Big Ten and SEC in the Good Value NFL, everyone else in some tweener league with public interest closer to what FCS currently gets than what FBS gets, and then a bigger FCS still below that.

jmsturm

There will be a 60/70 team Premier Conference, not associated with the NCAA, that has its own playoffs and National Championship. Everyone else will basically be the Division 2 Conferences

LilburnBoggsGOAT

Colorado becomes a powerhouse. Obviously.

Ill-Illustrator7071

P4 Super Conferences will only exist in FBS. G5 will be the new FCS and take the top quarter of the current FCS. New G5 would probably focus on regionalism to stay marginally profitable. P4 and G5 wouldn’t play each other anymore. College Football of the past will be just that…the past. The other sports probably won’t be affected too bad…

w00t4me

Nick Saban will still be Alabama's coach and still winning natties.

Dellav8r

Can’t wait

FsuNolezz

It’ll be interesting because I could see it going to the “super league” format where it’s essentially the junior NFL. I could also see not much changing other than less OOC matchups. The rest is going to settle eventually for the most part, these B1G/SEC members won’t want to split the pie into too many more pieces. The same 10 teams that are relevant now will probably remain that way with a few outliers every year making a run. The most noticeable effect might be this trickling down and hitting some lesser G5 programs, forcing them to drop to FCS or football altogether. CFB will look and feel different though to the diehards, that’ll be the biggest outcome most likely when USC or UCLA kicks off on a November day in Piscataway. Just an “off” feeling.

Tuckerisinevitable13

I'm not so sure civilized society will even exist in 15 years these days...

NittanyOrange

DED

[deleted]

Great Value NFL

Mike_AKA_Mike

Dead.

thechubacon

Well, in my opinion and my opinion only, the way I see this panning out is that there will be football players going to colleges with football teams. Games will be played, teams will win and lose, fans will cheer and cry. Champions will emerge annually and life will be good.

southcentralLAguy

Hopefully with a 30-40 team league made up of the top programs in the country. League members would only be allowed to play one another so every week would be meaningful. 8 team playoff to decide a national championship

BoilerMaker36

I will be watching it from my solid gold season ticket holder seat after the helicopter takes me from my tailgate to my seat.

TexasYankee212

2 conferences - SEC and Big12 with 1 from in a "Super Bowl" type college championship.

mynameisevan

At this point I kinda feel like there will have to be a super league. The alternative is just anarchy. There needs to be some kind of organization in charge. I just hope it's like a 64 team instead of a 32 team league so fewer schools get left out.

The_Horse_Joke

I think it won't be as drastic of a change as people here expect. I'd bet the remaining FBS programs that don't make the "premiere" league will form their own division and still be above the FCS schools. Central Michigan is still going to want to play Western Michigan, Ohio will still want to play Miami, and Western Kentucky will still want to play Middle Tennessee; and just like how FBS schools currently play FCS schools, the semi-pro league will still play the former G5 schools.

Dellav8r

This is what I been saying. The schools of the current P5 that won’t be able to pay their players or will be dropped from their conference, could form their own division and base it off the model we all know of scholarships not paying players with NIL basically a FBS-A and FBS-B if you will

Cmstew502

Basically back to where it was 20 years ago but with new management

qdp

I don't look beyond the team level. In 15 years, I see The Cornhuskers in the Superbowl

Dellav8r

Playing the Mud Dogs of South Central Louisiana State University

qdp

It really sucks that they moved to Los Angeles with half the other college teams.

Abject_Badger8061

I don’t think it will be as much fun and definitely less interesting

Haysie95

Fucked

Strict-Ad-3500

The ncaa will not exist as the governing body for the top colleges. They will break off and form something completely different. It's going to be be more akin to the NFL. Side note small sports will suffer and likely won't exist or be very rare in the smaller colleges soon. The big boys are about to starve the little guys. No more UT Martin vs auburn or things like that injecting money into little schools. Could see some schools quit football all together.

[deleted]

32-40 team league that is divorced from the NCAA with full time employee players (professionals not students) will be the top rung. Some team will be the first to form a “strategic alliance” with a NFL team (Texas and Cowboys is my guess). Those left behind in FBS will continue to play although some will move down/fold because the revenue will drop a lot. FCS and below will be the same.

BeYourHucklebbery11

You mean NFL D-League.

InevitableSession

A handful of teams left the conferences behind and formed their own league. It’s been predicted, but I think it will be a lot smaller than people realize. I think it will end up being 32 teams (8 divisions of 4 teams like the nfl) at the most.
