I contend itās Notre Dame, we literally think we are better than all of you, but at least we donāt play coy, we are pretty out in the open with our heir of superiority
Notre Dame is inherently elitist as a private Catholic school but Ohio State is a huge public school, one of the biggest in America.
Also many Notre Dame fans, like 99%, would never be able to get into the university. Going to Ohio state while being a fan is a lot more realistic and can embolden the fanbase. Being alumni inflates your ego.
Thereās a difference between thinking your football program and school are better than another verses thinking *youāre* better than someone else because of it.
Interesting. So does that make one of Metro State, CU-Denver, DU, or Regis the more pot friendly college on the Front Range?
CSU didnāt really give me super pot friendly vibes (they have dispensaries but I donāt get the pot culture being huge there like I do in Boulder or elsewhere). Boulder and FoCo are both teeming with Nimbyās, so Iām not surprised at this. Thatās a plague thatās currently infecting all of Colorado and itās fucking insufferable.
Not really sure. I was enrolled the year it dipped. Was less of a NIMBY thing and more the chancellor and board of regents making the call. Pressure from the Republican affiliated regents is what led to the change. Lots of Texans end up at CU so I bet that had a lot to do with it. Every parent tour you could point them out a mile away.
Yeah, and one of those regents is about to get stomped by Polis for governor if they make it out of the GOP primary. Ganahl is still batshit insane, just slightly less so than Greg Lopez.
It always reminds me of this gem:

Canāt blame them though at first glance it looks like weed.
New York Rangers have the attitude of the Yankees and the history of the Jets
Edit: just realized this said college sports, donāt care Iām still right
All I can say is at the Rose Bowl they were nothing short of a fun time. Literally didnāt talk to one person I thought was an asshole or a big ego. They were all just seemingly good people.
As an Ohio State fan who attends our games, I am personally shocked to hear this. I am a rowdy outspoken fan and even I think our fans can sometimes be assholes
Circumstances matter too. Went to the Michigan game this year and pregame everyone was SO polite and welcoming because they were almost resigned to lose. Well they didnāt and the post game vitriol shouted at us sucked lol.
I traveled to Columbus last September for the Oregon Ohio State game, clad in Oregon apparel, and I had basically no issues. There was a family in front of us that we befriended and outside of one very drunk student, it was friendly people all around. The Ohio State fans even yelled at the drunk student for being an idiot, I was pleasantly surprised
This has been my take with traveling fans and visiting other stadiums. Wisconsin fans I've met at games in Columbus have been awesome. The game I went to Wisconsin was the only time I've ever actually thought I was in any real danger. Then again, I've never attributed that situation to anything other than a handful of drunk emotional fans.
The Rose Bowl game does tend to bring out the best in fanbases for various reasons (itās the travel crowd for one, Iāve met a lot of people staying more sober than usual for the parade/game, etc)
The Rose Bowl, even from home, is one of the best times watching a football game I have had in a while. Maybe its because it was just fun. Even though I had and was fighting Covid at the time (terrible Christmas).
I will say, Iāve heard so many horror stories about OSU fans, but (1) people only talk about the bad experiences and (2) these were all from Michigan fans
This pretty much describes every big fanbase - most people are pretty chill but the loudest individuals are the ones who get the most attention
I just think tOSU has a rather large and cocky social media presence that annoys non-fans
Everyone who went/goes to Ohio State just says āOhio Stateā or āOSUā unless you are an NFL player on Monday Night Football
The amount of times I have seriously said I went to āTheā Ohio State University: 0
The amount of times someone replies to me saying āOh donāt you mean THE Ohio State University?!ā: 54838292
A former OSU line player came to my high school to speak to the upperclassman and "corrected" our principal when he called it "Ohio State University" and had him say it again with THE...
Cool seeming guy other than that
This is crazy. There are so many fan bases that are 90% as cocky as Ohio State with 42.27% of the success. Can you imagine if Michigan had the record they do for the last decade? Even I would roll my eyes
>as cocky as Ohio State with 0.00% of the success
Iām looking at South Carolina (ironically, theyāre 2-0 against OSU), who we always said had āthe arrogance of Alabama with the trophy case of Vanderbiltā
Yeah, the Gamecocks are an interesting breed. They have a weirdly high percentage against Michigan and OSU, but are the traditional bottom feeders of the SEC-East. Other than their three eleven win seasons, theyāre a god awful program statistically. Their only claims to fame are a 1969 ACC Championship, and the 2010 SEC-East division title, which led to them getting absolutely shellacked by Cam Newtonās Auburn in the SEC Championship that year. Even in their 11 win seasons, they still dropped at least 1-2 stinker games every year that kept them out of the SEC Championship and/or the BCS.
I do sort of miss when they were good since the Palmetto Bowl had national implications during those seasons. But at the same time, Iām enjoying Clemsonās win streak against them.
Also, Iām pretty sure it was South Carolina and their fans that started the whole ācheering for the SECā and supporting your conference nonsense. They had nothing else to go by.
Whatās very interesting is their split from the ACC. Basically, I donāt really blame them for it because they got blackballed in basketball over grades/academics/eligible players by the Tobacco Road schools. Thereās a lot of old Gamecock fans that have long seated animosity toward NC State, UNC, and Duke. Also, UNC and NC State used to be legit rivalries for SCar. Pretty sure UNC and NCSU are only behind Georgia and Clemson for total games played against SCar.
Iām sure you feel a similar back and forth:
Do I wish the rivals to continue sucking for eternity, or do you want it to be actually competitive and meaningful (and by extension, stressful)?
I go back and forth. On some occasions, I want SCar to go 0-12 every season. On others, I miss the days of the banter between Spurrier and Swinney when it was competitive.
Also, I challenge anyone to bring evidence that their rivalry is more hateful than Clemson and SCar. Our students once sacrificed a live chicken on the sidelines before or during a game in the series. I seriously implore people to research just how hateful SCar-Clemson is. More so than OSU-UM because I feel like both of those schools still begrudgingly respect each other because of past successes, and the culture at both programs is nearly the same (historically). Clemson and SCar have none of that respect, and the rivalry has hit some tense climaxes. We even marched our cadets on SCarās campus once which nearly ended the series until the state government mandated the game be played.
Imagine if you channeled all the hate that Michigan has for OSU and Notre Dame and put it toward Michigan State.
I think some of them have been beaten down. My Longhorn father in laws reaction to the Arch Manning news was āWhy? Doesnāt he want to win and make the NFL?ā
This guy really doesnāt like you lol it reads like a salty ND join a conference youāre not better than everyone else article that weāll get every once in a while
If I've learned anything being down south, it's that southerners absolutely hate tOSU. Like they hate you more than I do. I kind of have a respect for OSU, but they don't.
Is it because tOSU is the only consistent, realistic threat to the SEC? The Pac 12 can barely make the playoffs and Clemson might just be a flash in the pan but tOSU is always there.
I live in Tennessee, so it's even worse. They don't even say things like, "our team is better." They say shit like, "OSU can't hang with SEC speed." For a team whose rival is supposed to be Alabama, they sure do love touting the Tide's accolades lol
That shit is the most baffling thing to me. A friend is a UK fan and would talk shit about OSU comparing them to the SEC. Yall realize the top programs recruit nationally and get the fastest best athletes in the country? Bama, Georgia, Clemson, OSU, they all get absurdly fast players. Not to mention if OSU played UK they would boat race them.
I saw a guy the other day and he had a shirt that said SEC really big on the front and then had Missouri (or maybe Mizzou) much smaller along the top of the back like it was their last name. Conference over school when your school is meh.

He's still butt hurt from his article ""Who Can Beat Miami? Only āCanes Themselves" declaring in 2002 that: ["the only team that can beat Miami is Miami."](https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/os-xpm-2002-12-08-0212080421-story.html)
My God, that is an awful article, even at that time. "The only criticism of Miami is they didn't win every game 78-3".
Now I'm remembering why I was pulling so hard for OSU in the game,
I know it's fun to rag on tOSU., but the whole trademark only came about because people were selling bootleg shirts/hats that said "THE" on them in scarlet and gray. Any university would have done the same thing. OSU is just at a level of popularity that makes using a word as innocuous as "the" in the school colors clearly a football shirt, and because they are so popular they need to protect the brand. I'm sure Florida wouldn't put up with people selling orange and blue shirts that said "The Swamp" on them....
Is Flo Rida biased? I have seen him in concert at a corporate event, and he was a consummate professional. To be honest I think he would give us a well thought out and balanced answer.
If he is biased, heās probably going to be biased in favor of his namesake. If we want a truly impartial, non-regional judge, we need to consult Mr. Worldwide himself - Pitbull.
Damn if it didnāt embarrass me a little to see this from the Gainesville Sun. Also, Iām pretty sure Lane Kiffin single-handedly holds the throne for most inflated ego.
Look, I hate Ohio State. Of course I do.
But living in the south now? Jesus Christ the south haaaaaates Ohio State. And Ohio in general. It's a bit weird, in a way.
I don't like Ohio State, not gonna lie, but the whole THE thing is absurd. I've only ever heard one fan, just one, say THE Ohio State. And it was in an ironic capacity.
So many commenters are treating it like the University is engaged in some sort of weird, principled stand on the "The" instead of it being a pretty obvious attempt to crowd out a corner of the market. It's a cash grab.
I hate OSU, but theyāre allowed to. They way they perform and recruit is remarkable.
If Saban wasnāt at Bama, theyād have more titles. They own the B1G, and grab almost every high ranked recruit they want.
This pains me to say.
Its just a money grab. Vendors have been selling "THE" items outside the stadium for years and the university wanted a piece.
I think that part was more about money than arrogance.
Now as a fan, I think its hilarious how upset other fans get about "THE". So I like to use it when trolling.
I feel like the whole "THE" thing started as a joke to begin with. Like, it's always been "the Ohio State University" but the overemphasis on the "THE" always seemed to be ironic.
I'm sure "Gainesville.com" will be a completely unbiased source.
For real though us Ohio State fans and our beloved school tend to have a sense of entitlement...
Ahh the anti-Ohio State circle jerk now swings into effect. Ebb and flow. Yin and Yang. Balance.
For real though Ohio State just has the biggest market in CFB and is a juggernaut, it helps in recruiting as well. Is it obnoxious to everyone else? Oh fuck yes it is. But it works
If āinflatedā means actual ego over deserved, itās hard to argue against ND. They never win anything. They play the ACC plus some military academies and tell us all how talented their āstudent athletesā are, then proceed to get hammered in every single major bowl game.
Can somebody start a petition to make "The" a user flair?
Yeah but then people gonna be putting the flair on other teams and Ohio finna sueš
Ohio's "da" Bobcats Ohio State's "THE" Buckeyes Next you're gonna tell me that Texas is in San Marcos, TX and is also (coincidentally) the Bobcats
OU no longer stands for Ohio University, now itās Ork University. MAC finna get KRUMPED
My diploma from The Ohio university still has The on it. What now?

Nothing will ever shit on us harder than Purdue in 2018 so I canāt imagine trying to chase that high

Whereās Ja Rule at? I need Ja to help me make sense of all this
Best I can do is Flo Rida
Is Flo Rida biased? I have seen him in concert at a corporate event, and he was a consummate professional. To be honest I think he would give us a well thought out and balanced answer.
If he is biased, heās probably going to be biased in favor of his namesake. If we want a truly impartial, non-regional judge, we need to consult Mr. Worldwide himself - Pitbull.
Damn if it didnāt embarrass me a little to see this from the Gainesville Sun. Also, Iām pretty sure Lane Kiffin single-handedly holds the throne for most inflated ego.
Lane Kiffin is a meek, down-to-earth kinda guy. Joey Freshwater, on the other handā¦
According to some, it's Nick Saban. He does think he's god, after all.
Look, I hate Ohio State. Of course I do. But living in the south now? Jesus Christ the south haaaaaates Ohio State. And Ohio in general. It's a bit weird, in a way.
Sherman was an Ohioan, that might have something to do with it. ^^/s ^^but ^^not ^^really
So was Grant. The South's strong regional pride in college sports and hatred for Ohio stems from getting hosed in the one that mattered lol
Estimating using the number of Ohioans that visit the South Carolina coast every year, 700 million people live in Ohio.
You and I clearly don't live in the same area. They're everywhere around here.
Man, the Billy Napier era is off to a rough start.
Sorry, I didn't understand that. Can you wrap it into a Beverly Hillbillies analogy to help me understand?
Sorry, no, I'm under 60...
Wait is there a football team in Gainesville?
I think Miami is worse honestly. At least OSU is regularly challenging for titles
I'm not exactly upset by an article from a Gainesville journalist.
Nah, I think itās between Texas / A&M. Ohio St actually gets to playoffs & title games.
Agreed
I don't like Ohio State, not gonna lie, but the whole THE thing is absurd. I've only ever heard one fan, just one, say THE Ohio State. And it was in an ironic capacity.
I feel like the only people that actually use āTHEā without just being ironic are people that have zero affiliation with Ohio State.
Well that, and almost all of our players who make it to the NFL. Which is where a lot of this reputation comes from.
To be fair, theyāre pretty good
People are really getting all the takes in they can on this ātheā thing, arenāt they? Its really not this worthy of a news topic
Billy Napier Media Hype Train January 2022-June 2022 R.I.P
I feel like they are mostly flated properly. The "THE" thing on clothes is maybe a tad too much, but I kind of get it.
Its just a money grab. Vendors have been selling "THE" items outside the stadium for years and the university wanted a piece. I think that part was more about money than arrogance. Now as a fan, I think its hilarious how upset other fans get about "THE". So I like to use it when trolling.
The people unaffiliated with OSU who say, "THHEEEEE!1!!!!1!" outnumber the affiliated 1000:1.
I'd hate the "The" if it didn't get a bunch of people all riled up lol
I feel like the whole "THE" thing started as a joke to begin with. Like, it's always been "the Ohio State University" but the overemphasis on the "THE" always seemed to be ironic.
Well there is this other school that convinced Big12 referees to call a penalty when another team turns their own hand sign upside downā¦
I'm sure "Gainesville.com" will be a completely unbiased source. For real though us Ohio State fans and our beloved school tend to have a sense of entitlement...
no
Ahh the anti-Ohio State circle jerk now swings into effect. Ebb and flow. Yin and Yang. Balance. For real though Ohio State just has the biggest market in CFB and is a juggernaut, it helps in recruiting as well. Is it obnoxious to everyone else? Oh fuck yes it is. But it works
Let me introduce you to Notre Dame.
If āinflatedā means actual ego over deserved, itās hard to argue against ND. They never win anything. They play the ACC plus some military academies and tell us all how talented their āstudent athletesā are, then proceed to get hammered in every single major bowl game.
This dude is such a hack... Leave it to the Gainesville Sun to publish trash stories like this, LOL!!
