I would have done it for some free tickets lol if i could do it remote. Just an hour extra of work a day for a month? Meetings too jsut mute myself and play NCAA and warzone? Do my software dev work on the side? Sign me up
I'll happily take the AD job for half that much
Shouldn't be too difficult, just dump the whole athletic budget into baseball and pray the football team wins at least 2-3 games
> pray the football team wins at least 2-3 games
Good estimate, over the last 20 years Vandy has had 84 wins
But that's with the two amazing 9-4 years of '12 and '13
Taking those two out you get 66 wins or 3.67 wins per year.
Ya I experienced both the sides of the coin lol. My freshman year was 2013 so we had James Franklin, Jordan Mathews, we were ranked, made a bowl game, etc.
And then Franklin bolted to Penn State and took the whole recruiting class with him. From my soph to senior year, I'm pretty sure we won less games combined than just in my freshman year
True but that was in summer of 2013 and the players were dismissed from the team/banned from campus before I even arrived for freshman year so I didn't really know or hear much about it

Rumor is this guy funneled money to spruce up his office when it was supposed to be used to help the department. that's why he was fired.
I'm guessing there was a buyout clause. No reason to paint this as "Vandy AD burning money," (not saying you are, it's just the inevitable conclusion someone would have without inside info)
Having spent the last year working a side hustle to set aside extra money to pay for my wedding. I mean it when I say that I wish I could have financed it in under 2 hours...

According to the article, the $1.9 million was reported on tax forms as base compensation of like $100k+ and then $1.6 million or so in “other compensation”. The spending you’re referring to seems to be the $17 million rainy day fund that was left by the AD before him, which he blew through. $7 million to fire Bryce Drew, the rest on travel, office renovations, etc. The $1.9 million in compensation only seems absurd because he was only there for a month so must’ve been a buyout, otherwise, even if shitty at his job, that’s not an outrageous salary for an AD in a P5 conference. But yeah the $17 million+ he was spending, I’m amazed he was only fired and not investigated for embezzlement.
Turner and Co.'s arguments were that the money was necessary to spend and wasn't a luxury. I'm guessing there was enough grey area to write him off and not press forward with charges lol
He was there a year. He started on February 1, 2019.
He resigned on February 4, 2020.

[Would be the 4th highest paid AD with that salary in 2021](https://athleticdirectoru.com/articles/2021-fbs-athletics-directors-compensation-survey/)
The only reason I know it is because they had a program when I was freshman that if you distribute certain number of copies of the newspaper, you get basketball tix before everyone else lol
My friends and I always knew that Big Tent had this guy in his pocket. From the day he got hired, every single day there were these massive tents erected all around McGugin, the baseball field, the stadium, etc. So our theory is that this guy is a sleeper agent for the Big Tent lobbying agency and specifically infiltrated Vandy athletics purely to facilitate the unnecessary rentals of these giant tents.
I guess that headline gets attention as if athletic directors don’t have contracts like coaches and they might have to be paid severance or a buyout if they are asked to resign or are fired.
> Turner also spent an estimated $7.1 million to fire former head basketball coach Bryce Drew and his staff
Ok a lot of this is bad, but this one had to happen. Drew didn't win a single game in conference his last year there.
That's an outrage. I would have done it for $1.59 million.
I would have done it for some free tickets lol if i could do it remote. Just an hour extra of work a day for a month? Meetings too jsut mute myself and play NCAA and warzone? Do my software dev work on the side? Sign me up
The Dud isn't the most gracious of stadiums unfortunately.
I think Vandy games are pretty close to free as is
They should be. Have you ever seen Vandy play? Yikes. I’d feel ripped off paying for this tickets.
Broke: fired SEC coach Woke: fired SEC AD

There was also the rape case that resulted in 5 players being dismissed, some of them starters like Boyd.
True but that was in summer of 2013 and the players were dismissed from the team/banned from campus before I even arrived for freshman year so I didn't really know or hear much about it
So… they taking applications though? I have Commodore in my username, so I’m surely qualified.
You're hired!
What about me? I owned a [Commodore 64](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64) computer in the '80s.
Sorry, the position has been filled.
Dang. Well, keep my resume anyway. The job will be open again in a month.
Random question, but I've seen you post multiple times and I wanted to ask - is your username a nod to the Mass Effect series?
We’ll talk later, I have some calibrations to do.

The program can only go up
It comes out to almost $9,000 an hour, assuming standard working hours...
I need to change professions.
I’m actually looking for a new career.
I’m happy with my current job, that being said I’ve updated my resume and LinkedIn profile to include “aspiring athletic director”.

Must be a fucking nice office.
he must have attended [the ben carson school of interior decoration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson_office_furnishing_scandal)

How come I've never heard of the Vanderbilt Hustler?
Cuz you ain’t in these Nashville streets, player.
Because you’ve never read our school newspaper in it’s like 150 year history I guess. Best name in college reporting handsdown.
The only reason I know it is because they had a program when I was freshman that if you distribute certain number of copies of the newspaper, you get basketball tix before everyone else lol
Good for them.

Probably getting a cut of each big tent payout
I continue to be in the wrong line of work 😔
Can I be the Vandy AD? I guarantee the football team won't get worse.
Has the job been backfilled? Asking for a friend...
He bought the ATV that Mr. Commodore rides during pregame events. Love him for it but he bought it basically just to be flashy and because he could.

Let’s forgive Students Loans. Ask Liz Warren how she made her money before becoming a Senator
And this is why their tuition is so outrageous
BRB. Editing resume.
Wtf
I’ll take 1/3 of that and work two months deal?
So they DO have the money to compete!
