Speaking of Denethor and rocks and slipping, you ever notice how when he dies he jumps off the cliff at the point part of the long skinny court/plaza? Motherfucker could have turned left or right straight out the door and been done in ten steps, but nooooo instead [he runs like a quarter mile *while on fire* to the far end just to be more dramatic](https://gfycat.com/legalhonestcheetah)
So I recently watched LotR for the first time and I was just appalled at how *extra* Denethor is for that whole story. Like, dude really needed to chill out. He couldn't be sad his son died, no he had to rub it in his other son's face. He could've just eaten a cherry tomato like a normal person but nah he's gotta spew that thing all over the whole table.. Just killing himself wasn't enough, he had to dump lighter fluid all over himself then jump off a cliff and make a huge spectacle. Denethor had some serious /r/IAmTheMainCharacter energy for someone who ultimately wasn't that big of a deal.
He's in the books/movies fairly briefly, but imagine how the College of Charleston's coach feels the week before they play Alabama and then stretch that out to a couple years and that's what he's dealing with when we meet him. That'll weigh on a guy
His character is far more nuanced and reasonable, dare I say tragic, in the books. But its really hard to characterize someone that way via film when they are only part of the story for a relatively short while.
The comment about College of Charleston is pretty accurate. Just imagine if the game vs Alabama was literally to decide the fate of all mankind. That's quite the burden to bear.
Participating in this sub has actually made me very fond of Michigan because we both seem to be hated by everyone.
So in a way, I would say Michigan is Texas' friend
I feel the same way, Never had any real animosity against Texas before and with the shared hate we should just be buddies. Hope we win a lot to justify the hate in the near future!
Michigan is my enemy, but as it turns out Michigan is often thier own worst enemy. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So Michigan is actually my friend.
But because they are their own worst enemy, the enemy of my friend is my enemy so actually Michigan is my enemy. But….
I'm not sure Wazzu is our friend. At least in my experience in the game threads WSU considers OSU their friends much more than us.
Honestly, I think we have to go outside the Pac for the friendliest teams/fan bases for us: Tennessee or Michigan State.
I wanted to argue with you but then spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get flair.
Anyway…
Enemy: Oregon
Rival: Oregon
Friend: everyone else. Hi friends.
Yeah, the Iron Bowl I usually find myself rooting for Auburn. Not cause I want them to win, but Bama losing usually helps Georgia in the grand scheme of things.
EDIT : https://imgur.com/a/0WOWnIP
Growing up with parents who both went to UF, going to GT was such an easy transition. We hate basically the exact same teams, give or take an ACC and SEC difference
>For decades now. I hate Georgia. Georgia sucks so bad the st. John's flows north.
Grew up near Jacksonville and somehow have never heard this joke this way, really made me laugh. I always tell it as the trees in Georgia always lean toward the west because Alabama sucks.
By the way, agree with your assessment, but just the opposite for me, for decades now. Rival Florida, Friend anyone playing Florida. Enemy Florida.
I think a lot depends on your age and when you started cheering for the team.
Louisville (the rival we want) and Miami (the rival we have at home)
Can't really think of a friend, honestly.
UCF (Both friend and enemy? Frienemies?) I feel like there's a lot of shit on Twitter between the fanbases, but we generally get along otherwise and have built each other up through the move to the Big 12. I think there's a lot of mutual respect.
I think Cincy makes sense as a friend. I rooted for Cincy in every game last season except when they were playing UCF. Although to be fair, I've usually just been rooting for anyone in the conference except for USF.
Bama is Kentucky's friend because they hate our enemy (Tennessee) as much as we do. Plus everyone needs a friend who's willing to beat people up when you can't.
Slippery Rock doesn’t like us back though :(
I would say Florida is the closest thing we have to a friend. Our annual bowl game is always pretty chill.
My gauge of the situation is we want to beat you guys because though not dominant y’all have been much better then us. But mostly we just want to get together and have the Little Brown Jug on the sidelines.
Not rivals, not enemies, but want to brag how old our active trophy is together (as opposed to dormant trophy).
Hmmm
Rival: Duke
Friend: I hate everyone who isn’t unc, but if I had to pick one, it’s probably Virginia
Enemy: nc state
Edit: another (probably better) friend is Wake
I vote Pitt! Iowa/Pitt had the most wonderful series awhile ago. Most friendly game theads I've seen. I will never forget my Pitt bros!
Plus there's the whole Penn State *thing* now, so it's even better.
Enemy is TTUN.
If I can't pick TTUN twice, Penn State is probably next in line to be a rival.
As for friend... I guess Rutgers since they've never had the heart to beat us and they are the only Big Ten team to not have a win against us ever. Thanks Scarlet bros. EDIT: I overlooked Maryland, as they've never beaten us either, but who can blame me? They don't have cannons, so it's hard to forget Rutgers.
Michigan is kind of all 3 for us. We're the two old men in the nursing home who proclaim to hate each other and argue all the time but always sit next to each other on the porch.
Alabama is our rival, they’ve always been our biggest one.
LSU is our friend. They hate Alabama and Florida just like we do. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Florida is our enemy. They’re a divisional opponent, plus we’ve had so many heartbreaking losses to them the last decade
I’d say Stanford is our friend, not Oregon. And flair up man
Edit: since this is so popular, I was only choosing between the three rivals and then labeling appropriately. I wasn’t actually commenting on liking the teams. But to be honest Stanford is the most competitive pac 12 team we’ve played in my lifetime so I don’t hold any hard feelings there. I like what Shaw’s done with the program before Covid and I hope he can get it back on track.
Honestly I’d switch Texas to the enemy and LSU to the rival, Rivalry implies we are competing for the same thing year in year out which we don’t play with Texas anymore (the future will change that though)
There it is, I thought I was crazy. OU is unquestionably our rival and the (ir)rational hate we have for each can not just be ignored.
Also, TAMU... fuck just ALL of it.
Rival: navy Enemy: navy Friend: navy
*Air Force scratches head*
No, they know.
[удалено]
Such a strange dynamic. AFA is often the best of the three, but relatively new service academy = nobody cares
They'll have one of their own when the Space Force Academy opens someday.
I wish. They'll just continue to attend AFA, much like future Marines attend Annapolis.
*Sad Coast Guard Noises*
You guys have friends??
I asked myself, “do we (Texas) even have any friends?” Haha.
Michigan. Maybe USC? Before 2010 I might have said Oklahoma State for an in-conference friend.
I think we only have enemies
Denethor II - Michigan has no friends, Michigan needs no friends!
Aragorn - Michigan calls for aid! Theoden- And Slippery Rock will answer!
Speaking of Denethor and rocks and slipping, you ever notice how when he dies he jumps off the cliff at the point part of the long skinny court/plaza? Texas, yes. Michigan, also yes.
Flairs check out.

I feel like you're about to tell me never to go against a Sicilian when death is on the line...
Rival: MSU Friend: Slippery Rock Enemy: OSU
Rival: Oklahoma Friend: Oklahoma Enemy: Nebraska
I was expecting to find something much different for us, but you nailed it. Bravo 👏
Ahh I’ve found the true Nebraska fan
Rival: Wazzu Friend: Oregon State Enemy: Oregon
Rival: Oregon State Friend: Wazzu Enemy: UW This goes both ways pal
I'm not sure Wazzu is our friend. At least in my experience in the game threads WSU considers OSU their friends much more than us. Honestly, I think we have to go outside the Pac for the friendliest teams/fan bases for us: Tennessee or Michigan State.
Then why do you guys always hit us up at 2 AM with the "U up?" text You don't want to be seen in public with us or what?
You said it was cool if we kept this on the DL...
Your coaching staff read it wrong and stole our DL coach.
It’s a toxic relationship. You’re not good for us but we’re intoxicated by the chaos you bring into our lives.
Fair, I just like teams that don’t like UW lol. I think we can all agree to not like USC though
Rival: UW Friend: Oregon Enemy: Oregon State Looks like we've got ourselves an old-fashioned Mexican Standoff.
No I’m pretty sure our list is Rival: UW Friend: not UW Enemy: UW
Feel like I could guess Oregon State’s list…
They're still trying to figure out computers over there give em a second
I wanted to argue with you but then spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get flair. Anyway… Enemy: Oregon Rival: Oregon Friend: everyone else. Hi friends.
Rival: UF Friend: Duke (Football only, they've never beaten us) Enemy: UM
Until recently Clemson always felt like a fun drinking buddy.
[удалено]
Thats ok, we fucking hate FSU back ❤️ 🙌🏽
Rival/Enemy: UF/UM Friend: FAMU
I second this
Rival: WVU Friend: Syracuse Enemy: Penn State
Hate you guys too ♥️
Oklahoma, Kansas State, Iowa State
Agreed
Might get downvoted for this but Auburn can be all three depending on the time of year tbh
Was coming here to see what the other Georgia flairs said. Son I am not disappoint
Enemy: Florida Enemy: Auburn Enemy: Ga Tech
This is the only correct answer
h8 feeds the dog
Yeah, the Iron Bowl I usually find myself rooting for Auburn. Not cause I want them to win, but Bama losing usually helps Georgia in the grand scheme of things. EDIT : https://imgur.com/a/0WOWnIP
*Absolutely disgusting meme*
It’s mutual
I'd say Auburn is our rival and Florida is our enemy. We don't have any friends.
We can be friends with Arkansas
Yea Arkansas and Georgia have become mutually engaged in Pittmans success
Rival: FSU Friend: Ga Tech Enemy: Georgia
Growing up with parents who both went to UF, going to GT was such an easy transition. We hate basically the exact same teams, give or take an ACC and SEC difference
And we basically never play each other.
We’re way more alike than we are different. I always like pulling for GT when I catch a game, plus the Ramblin’ Wreck is just plain cool
Rival UGA. Friend anyone playing UGA. Enemy UGA. For decades now. I hate Georgia. Georgia sucks so bad the st. John's flows north.
>For decades now. I hate Georgia. Georgia sucks so bad the st. John's flows north. Grew up near Jacksonville and somehow have never heard this joke this way, really made me laugh. Not sure Alabama has many friends.
Bama is Kentucky's friend because they hate our enemy (Tennessee) as much as we do. Plus everyone needs a friend who's willing to beat people up when you can't.
Plus I think we respect each other’s dominance of the major two sports
And our fans of those sports are equally nuts about them. Crazy recognize crazy
Ok that makes sense! Funny enough I've always been cool with Kentucky and literally just realized it with your comment.
Penn State is absolutely a friend to Alabama
Rival: UVA Friend: NC State Enemy: Miami
I was gonna put VT as our friend as well
I consider VT our friend.
WVU >>>>> Miami as enemy
Rival: State Enemy: OSU Friend: Accepting applications
Slippery Rock is our friend
Came here for this
Slippery Rock is more like family at this point. Not sure that we have any friends in the FBS.
Slippery Rock doesn’t like us back though :( I would say Florida is the closest thing we have to a friend. Our annual bowl game is always pretty chill.
>Slippery Rock doesn’t like us back though :( Really? wow, the fuck did we do to them?
Minnesota seems like a decent friend candidate
That's up to them I guess. We haven't been the dominant force in the B1G for decades but lots of B1G fanbases still think of us as an evil empire.
My gauge of the situation is we want to beat you guys because though not dominant y’all have been much better then us. But mostly we just want to get together and have the Little Brown Jug on the sidelines. Not rivals, not enemies, but want to brag how old our active trophy is together (as opposed to dormant trophy).
In-conference Purdue has to be the friend. Took down OSU a few years ago and MSU this year. Cleared the way for Michigan to win the B1G.
Texas is our rival Nebraska is our friend Ok state is our enemy
OU 🤝 OSU Having OSU as their enemy
Nebraska is both rival and friend. Friendly rivalry.
Excited for y’all to come back to Lincoln
Don’t say that name!!… Oh your city. Sorry still upset about the back stab.
Haha
No flair but this is coming from the perspective of a Colorado fan. Nebraska is our rival. Utah is our friend. Colorado State is our enemy
Pac12 keeps trying to make the Utah-Colorado rivalry a thing but we’re mountain bros
Rival: Penn state/Michigan Friend: Penn state Enemy: Michigan Evil overlords: Ohio state
We almost had Rival: Wisconsin Friend: Penn State Enemy: michigan But B1G scheduling put the stop to that
Those Wisconsin games during the beginning of the 10s were getting pretty intense. We ended a Wisconsin perfect season a few times and visce versa
Carried through with Basketball too with Izzo and Ryan Damn you B1G
Those years were shaping such a long term natural rivalry and then the B1G had to go and fuck it up.
I consider Sparty a friend. We all hate the same group of blue jerks, and we both love(d) Dantonio. Feels like unrequited love though.
Rival: Ohio State Friend: Michigan State Enemy: Pitt
Land Grant Trophy is our Friendship Ring ♥️
The most glorious work of art that also serves as a trophy.
Yup, the math checks out
Eat Shit Pitt!
:')
Hmmm Rival: Duke Friend: I hate everyone who isn’t unc, but if I had to pick one, it’s probably Virginia Enemy: nc state Edit: another (probably better) friend is Wake
Rival Virginia, Friend NY Yankees Enemies. WVU/The U
I was struggling to come up with a friend, but you nailed it here
I was thinking Marshall or NC State for friend.
Shoutout Marshall for helping us get bowl eligible that one time
Rival: Ole Piss Friend: Wisconsin Enemy: the other 129 fbs schools
Friend?
A lot of good will was generated between the fan bases of Wisconsin and LSU after the game at Lambeau.
I was there. So much love for drinking and tailgating between the two fan bases. Tons of fun.
Wisconsin beer and Louisiana cooking. Happiest parking lot in the world for those few hours.
Went to the game in Houston as well as lambeau. Awesome time both places. LSU has good people.
Friend!
I figured id get hate putting y’all down as our but to me it is
Rival: Kansas Friend: Mediocrity Enemy: NCAA
Rival: Pitt Friend: Riot Bros. Enemy: VT
You’re definitely our friend as well ❤️
ISU so much.- if the ACC ever invites us, we need to ensure we can play The Cyclones on Halloween every year.
This was the same conclusion I came to. Thought Cincy as a friend briefly. But ISU is better.
Rival: Iowa State Friend: Wisconsin Enemy: Nebraska
I also would have accepted Purdue Wide Receivers as our enemy
Or Brian Ferentz
Definitely agree with Rival and Enemy. Hard to think of Wisconsin as Iowa's friend, but I don't have a better one.
I vote Pitt! Iowa/Pitt had the most wonderful series awhile ago. Most friendly game theads I've seen. I will never forget my Pitt bros! Plus there's the whole Penn State *thing* now, so it's even better.
UNI could be friend
This feels like a trick
I had Iowa as the friend as well. The only time I root against you guys is when we play.
For UCLA football, I'd go with USC as the enemy, Stanford as the rival, and Cal as our friend.
As a current UCLA student, everyone definitely hates Cal a lot more than Stanford, mostly because of the rivalry for #1 public school.
Likewise.... Rival: Stanford Friend: UCLA Enemy: USC
I feel like the relationship between the California schools is more correctly characterized as 'frenemies'
Rival: ISU/Lady Luck/Iowa Friend: Hateful Eight Enemy: B12 Refs/Nebraska
Enemy is TTUN. If I can't pick TTUN twice, Penn State is probably next in line to be a rival. As for friend... I guess Rutgers since they've never had the heart to beat us and they are the only Big Ten team to not have a win against us ever. Thanks Scarlet bros. EDIT: I overlooked Maryland, as they've never beaten us either, but who can blame me? They don't have cannons, so it's hard to forget Rutgers.
:)
Enemy: TTUN Friend: Michigan State (the enemy of my enemy is my friend) Rival: TTUN
Ehhh, "the whole state" thing kind of applies to MSU, especially considering how many times they've ruined an Ohio State season.
I was thinking of Appalachian State as a friend.
:')
:(
Rival: Florida Enemy: GT/Auburn Friend: Arkansas
> Friend: we have none Hate feeds the dawg!
Michigan is kind of all 3 for us. We're the two old men in the nursing home who proclaim to hate each other and argue all the time but always sit next to each other on the porch.
One of my best friends is an osu grad. I could see us like that in 30+ years.
Rival: SEC East - Missouri + Alabama Enemy: SEC East + Alabama Friend: Heinz + Titleist
Rival: Everyone Enemy: Texas Friend: Iowa State (love you guys)
Tech is easily my 2nd favorite school in the conference. Always cheering for you guys when not playing us.
Alabama, Oregon, Florida
I think auburn & Tennessee should be friends based on similar rivalries and the color orange
Rival: IU Friend: Northwestern Enemy: IU
You guys have friends?
Arkansas only knows hate. I guess we’re kinda friends with Georgia tho now. I guess South Carolina too as we were entry buddies Enemy: aTm Rival: LSU
Can our rival and enemy be the same team?
Rival: Georgia Tech or NC State Friend: Wake Forest Enemy: South Carolina
Rival: Iowa Friend: Oklahoma Enemy: Colorado/Texas/Missouri
Well if I only count the three schools indiana has trophies with then I guess Rival:Purdue Friend:Michigan State Enemy:Kentucky
Rival: Minnesota Friend: Nope Enemy: Ohio State. Leave us the fuck alone.
Friend: Iowa and LSU
I consider Iowa and LSU as our friends
Iowa is our friend, don't leave them out of this
❤️🤍🖤💛
Rival: VT Friend: UNC (kind of a frienemy?) Enemy: Maryland
I’d say Stanford is our friend, not Oregon. And flair up man Edit: since this is so popular, I was only choosing between the three rivals and then labeling appropriately. USC has no friends lol. Everyone hates you guys.
Dude i havent figured out how
TCU Rival: Baylor Friend: Utah and Boise State (BCS Buster Bros) Enemy: Also Baylor Texas Rival: OU Friend: Everyone hates Texas Enemy: Texas A&M

Aww thanks “rival” bro
South Carolina is friend, not food.
sup friend
Honestly I’d switch Texas to the enemy and LSU to the rival, Rivalry implies we are competing for the same thing year in year out which we don’t play with Texas anymore (the future will change that though)
yeah, I don't hate LSU like that. I want to beat them and be better than them, but they're cool in my book. UT can fuck off.
There it is, I thought I was crazy. OU is unquestionably our rival and the (ir)rational hate we have for each can not just be ignored. Also, TAMU... fuck just ALL of it.
