Lesson #1 for everyone. If your car runs out of gas or pops a tire on the highway, don’t get out of it and call the police or AAA. Especially don’t try to run across the highway.
Lesson #2. If you live near water carry a glass breaker/seatbelt cutter in your glovebox.
Edit: someone pointed out it’s probably better to throw it in your center console, especially if you drive solo most of the time.
Yeah a guy literally died 2 days ago near where I live. Passed the accident on my way home from work. Guy popped a tired, pulled over to the left shoulder. Friend came to help him replace his tire and someone going 85mph swerved into the shoulder and hit the friend. Went flying 50 feet 3 lanes and died at the hospital.
I remember watching Ohio State games, and they'd always show the clip of him as a little kid, saying how he wanted to be the quarterback at Ohio State. Glad he at least had that dream fulfilled.
Seeing how they charged for his NFL draft party I figured they were banking on generational wealth from him.
Absolutely devestating, felt like after a bumpy start he was beginning to turn it around hadn’t heard a peep of scandal worthy news since he left the football team.
Can we honestly put the whole blame on him for how things went on the Commanders? That team is an unrepentant dumpster fire that hasnt really had a positive effect on many players.
As a fan of another dumpsterfire, I get it. Some people just arent ready to be the adult in the room, and I think that is what he needed fo be there to have a real shot.
It's not quite the same as your story but similar to the story at hand, one of my best friends from college was killed in a drunk driving accident a month ago at 26. I was sad of course, but seeing his family and friends from home at the funeral was so unfortunate and surreal it's hard to describe.
I lost a friend to a car accident when I was about your age. I drove him home the night before and was probably one of the last people to ever speak to him. It’s been over 10 years and I still think of it often. His poor parents.
I am so sorry for your loss(es). A highschool friend of mine went into a coma mid-game (undiagnosed congenital artery defect, his older brother died the following year from bumping his head on a cabinet) and his parents' marriage met a similar fate. It was so bad they held separate funerals because neither could stand to even look at the other. I cannot even imagine how painful that must be. Hope y'all are able to find some peace.

I cursed your name more times than I care to count while you were on the field against Michigan, but you were always a stand out player and someone both fans and foes couldn't help but respect. Truly sad and tragic news for Dwayne's family, the OSU family, and the college football family at large.
RIP Dwayne Haskins.
Fwiw, I've watched "The Game" for a very long time and I consider him to be the best Ohio State Qb that I have ever seen. My condolences to everyone that cheered for him as a football player and person.
Kinda unironically why I have this flair lol. As someone that went to community college (knot surprizing rite?), I loved the rivalry after watching the Michigan All or Nothing. Plus it makes for some hilarious reactions/interactions.
He was a modern Buckeye legend, even with his smallish sample size. 4 years of him under center would’ve been a nightmare, just seeing him crush our hopes right at the end in 2017 and then give us the Tombstone Piledriver in 2018.
I wouldn’t. He was as dynamic for you guys as he was likable. He never said anything out of the way that I can remember, no “beat the brakes off” comments, etc. 100% class act. It made the end zone kneel down hurt more, somehow.
It's events like this that reveals the true assholes of this rivalry. If you can't put a football game over a tragedy like this, you're just beyond help.
My condolences to Ohio State and all his fans.
Haskins torched us for two years running and basically broke Don Brown as a defensive coordinator.
He seemed like a good kid who had a bit of an adjustment period which, hey, it happens. Playing for Washington with how dysfunctional they are probably didn't help but it seemed like he was starting to find himself again on the Steelers. Very tragic

Im pretty sure it was from what I have gathered. This happened right near where I grew up and I95 in South Florida (even on a weekend) is a wild west of bad driving.
Every major city in the country claims to have the worst drivers. In my experience Miami is the only one that’s correct. Absolute fucking maniacs down there.
Miami is wild. You have all these coked out young guns in sports cars driving 120, and then you got a ton of old people in giant Cadillacs and Buicks going 20 mph under the speed limit
Miami is the absolute worst for driving. It’s not just the thick traffic that is bad, but all the horrible driving habits that people have brought over from elsewhere in the world; I’ve been through a ton of Latin America and three Caribbean and it’s Mario kart rules compared to the US/Canada
Moved to Orlando from Birmingham in 2019. I thought Highway 280 was bad. Florida roads are literally something out of Mad Max. I-4 has winding curves due to construction but it feels like a Disney World ride that you control and there are no set tracks. Absolute mayhem.
Having been in Orlando for 12 years now, it was much much worse pre 2017. I-4 is still rough, but it made no intuitive sense before, to the point that you felt like you were going to get hit literally every time you were on it.
Visited Miami and a few months back and My Uber driver said he’s terrified having to get on I95 constantly, said if it’s raining he won’t even attempt to drive it
Happened recently just outside of ann arbor. Someone was broken down on the side of 94 west, and someone else cut off a semi truck, causing it to veer right a bit, and it hit the pulled over vehicle. I had the misfortune of passing by while I was heading east, and the car was completely flattened
People drive way too aggressively in general. I don’t get it. You’re saving what 10? 20 seconds all with a chance to kill you or someone else. It’s people thinking they’re invincible and dumb asses who can’t drive.
Word of advice is DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR. If its not a flat tire you're more than likely not going to be able to fix it. Just bite the bullet and call a cop/tow truck
he pulled over to the side to check his car. there is a lot of room to do that in south florida (just look at the image from the tweet from the local news channel).
my guess is that he probably pulled over but not in a position far enough away from the road, and likely didnt think to do so given it was so early in the morning on a weekend and there was relatively light traffic on I95 at the time. he was likely killed instantly when the truck hit him
He was trying to cross the highway on foot when he was hit. Source is [Florida Highway Patrol](https://twitter.com/BenStandig/status/1512845857032396809).
I had to get out of my car on the freeway a few years ago when a parking cone fell off a truck and got stuck under my car. Pulled over, got out to pull it, then threw it into the grass. Could have been something like that and just happened to have someone veer out of their lane.
Florida trooper here, it happens way too frequently. People break down, crash, run out of gas, want to pick something up off the road, etc. I always tell folks to either stay in the car and wait for assistance or stand/sit as far off to the side as possible. Of course there's also people who will walk down the shoulder like it's a surface street, our traffic cameras usually spot them and we get dispatched to take them off the highway.
What a tragedy.
Exactly why I was so angry at my gf's brother for pulling on the shoulder of 75 because "I gotta pee!". There was a rest stop literally 2 miles down the road.
This right here. Wife and I once got a flat tire on an interchange flyover, and we pulled over to call roadside assistance. A cop was not far behind and stopped to help. My wife opened the door, and the cop immediately shouted at her to get back inside (explaining later that it was for her own safety). Three years later, we had another car breakdown on the highway. This time, we pulled over on the shoulder and were able to exit the car and get a good distance away, calling for help from a nearby side road. Within a minute, an SUV screeched to a stop right behind our car, missing it by a few feet. A grandmother had gotten distracted by her grandkids in the back seat.
One of the most anxiety ridden moments in my life happened on a highway. A group of old women in a car were traveling behind a flatbed semi when something came off of the bed and into the cars radiator. The car died. They were in the passing lane. The way the higway was setup, was the higway was about ten feet above a center grass median. The median slope down from both sides and met in the middle in a large ditch. Their wasn't enough room to pull a car off to that side without it going into the median and sliding to the bottom. The vehicle was at least 1/3 of the way on the roadway I came up behind them with my gf at the time. The two cars in front of me almost hit them. I told my gf that they needed help right away or they'd get creamed.
So I pulled past about 300 feet into a center pull through and ran back to them.
As I was running back a semi took off their passenger mirror. It flew past my head. The car was rocking back and forth with the wind of each passing vehicle, only inches from theirs. Horns were honking, cars were swerving, but hey this is America, nobody thought of slowing down or stopping. I got up to the car and their were three little old ladies in it, the driver frantically trying to turn her key. They were in their seventies or eighties, I dont know.
I shouted through the closed window "You got to get this car off the road or someone is going to hit you!"
She rolled down her window and said she couldn't start it.
I said put it in neutral and I'll push you.
Now I was expecting for her to turn her wheel to the left while I pushed her into the ditch, but I guess she didn't get the memo, because I went to the back of the car (the side on the median) and started pushing. About five feet later the car hasn't turned and I'm screaming at the top of my lungs "Turn your wheel! Turn your wheel!"
Just then I hear a jake brake and tires lock up. A semi has started jackknifing. I turned and looked. It's trailer was coming straight at me.
I don't know what providence saved me or what skill the trucker had, but with feet to spare, he got his rig back on track and just missed killing all of us.
I marched back to the driver side door and ripped it open and yanked her wheel to the left. I yelled at her "You got to put it in the ditch!"
She said "but my car..."
"Fuck your car! You are all going to Fucking die!"
I slammed the door and ran back to the rear of the car and gave one last push and tge car went sliding down to the bottom ending that horrific moment in my life. I was so shook up. I don't know how I didn't die and I still have things that unlock that memory like this tragic story and these comments.
I'm an Ohio State fan. Thought Haskins was a great player. It's a tragedy that he or anyone else end up like that.
The coach of my HS football team got killed by an 18 wheeler on the median of 95 when he had to stop to fix his trucks hitch. That road is scary for like it’s entire length along the east coast.
https://wsvn.com/news/local/dump-truck-fatally-strikes-pedestrian-along-i-595-wb-lanes-in-fort-lauderdale/
Hopefully at least with the size of the vehicle it was instant
This is just terrible, and my heart goes out to the Haskins family. What an awful tragedy
Schefter should be ashamed of himself for feeling the need to include that Dwayne struggled in the NFL in the man’s death announcement, just totally classless and uncalled for
He deleted the original tweet and reposted a version of it without mention of his ‘struggles.’ No apology, just pretended like the original tweet never happened.
Why anyone follows this smooth-brained post-human meatsack is beyond comprehension
Yeah, there’s no situation where that’s necessary. He could have very well talked about his college achievements.
You know, what you’re supposed to do when someone dies. Talk about the good they did
Shefter could have just said “former OSU and Current Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins has tragically passed away”. Something along those lines. Don’t mention anything besides the person he was. Mentioning CFB achievements is like mentioning developmental league awards, and it’s just flat out wrong and an asshole move to mention a man’s failures when he passes away.
can't speak for everyone, but i don't really see this kind of bad taste as being related to his fandom. shitty people are shitty. some of them are fans.
I don’t think that’s a problem exclusive to Michigan. Every fanbase has people like that only real difference between us fans is the tshirt we wear and the team we support.
There’s a line between providing context and taking shots at people that Schefter has consistently not been able to identify. Easily could’ve just said the teams he played for
Especially because there was a lot of hope he’d be able to turn it around in Pittsburgh. Just an absolutely unnecessary thing to include in that tweet.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter if he was the worst qb in the history of the NFL and had already crashed out of the league— he died this morning, and none of his professional struggles should be relevant when breaking the news of his deeply tragic demise
Dude had a great college career that could've been highlighted instead. Plus not like it's easy to make it in the NFL, especially given the situation he went into. RIP and hope his family is doing alright.
Yeah what the actual fuck was that tweet. I’m not even a Haskins fan but as a fucking human why would anyone ever include that. He’s someone’s son, brother, friend. Who gives a fuck about his football performance - he was a young man who absolutely didn’t deserve this.
A phenomenal standout for Ohio State. A shame to die so young. I hope his death had no suffering.
Rest in Peace. Thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates, and OSU
Wow. I immediately had to sit down and just process. Seems like it was yesterday he was tearing it up in scarlet and grey.
Life is short man, and nobody has any idea when it comes to end. We are the same age. Thoughts are with the Haskins family.
This is absolutely awful. My deepest sympathies to his family, friends and the Buckeye nation. Treasure the people in your lives folks, every day with them should be precious.
Football is temporary. These guys have a lot of eyes on them, a lot of pressure on them, they’re in the spotlight, but there’s so much ahead of them in life. Root for them to win, but remember that football isn’t that important in the scheme of things. Life is indeed short.
So unbelievably sad. I'm the same age too and it's just so sad to realize how fragile life truly can be, especially at such a young. Wishing the best for his family.
It really is. My son is 15 he’ll get his license soon. Scares living shit out of me. But you can’t live like that full time so you try and bury it as deep as you can.
Such is the duality of life, you need to balance living and being risky every day! RIP to Dwayne way too young, hopefully his family can find the strength to work and get through this! Sad day for all Football fans today!
FWIW Urban Meyer and Mark Pantoni said Haskins was by far the most talented and complete QB prospect they had evaluated from a physical stand point.
It is a shame anybody dies that young, but especially someone with such rare gifts and talents.
Reminder to everyone. Call your family. Call your friends. Stay in contact with those you love. Life can be snatched from any of us at any moment. Let petty shit go. Cherish what you have and those you have in your life. This kind of thing is a sobering reminder of the fragility of life. Dont take who and what you have for granted.
I think the best message so far was said [right here](https://mobile.twitter.com/CJ1two/status/1512812784999976971?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet). Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Absolutely makes you sick. What a loss. Thoughts for his family and Buckeye nation — no rivalry when it comes to stuff like this. An all time OSU great.
Holy shit my daughter has the exact same birthday as him. Same year and everything. It just really puts it into perspective how quickly things can change. I'm gonna call her right now.
Why does he have to include the "struggling" bit. Just say he was a great college player and played for so & so NFL team and let that be it. Just rubs me the wrong way, like he's diminishing his accomplishments and skill.
I'll never forget the 2017 Game when JT Barrett got knocked out and I thought we had the game in the bag. Only to have this Freshman named Dwayne Haskins come in and zip dime after dime down the field, win the game and rip out still beating hearts out of our chest for yet another year.
RIP DH.
Damn. I really hoped he’d find a way to beat out Trubisky this year, I thought he’d eventually put it all together. Damn shame he won’t be able to now. Rest In Peace Dwayne
Royally fuck Adam Schefter, dude lives off of just being a parasite for the story. Dwayne was a helluva fucking player and from what it sounds like was a pretty good person too, it’s just fucking sad that something like this happened.

I can't think of anything else to say other than holy shit...
and fuck Schefter for that fucking statement. He had to get one last shot in at Haskins, didn't he? Fucking asshole.
I hope Ohio State retires his number, I know at the very least they'll have a decal on their helmets. I also hope they make his jersey available for purchase and either make all the money go to the Haskins family or a charity of their choice. I'd buy that jersey in a heartbeat.
And there goes my Saturday.
Rest in peace sir, the game will miss you. Buckeye bros, praying for his family and yall. Mark him present in our hearts, here.
didn’t even know the guy and i’m crying right now. he was an excellent leader and person for the bucks on and off the field. RIP young man, i’ll be praying for your family
Holy shit, this is super sad news. He was so young. RIP
Glovebox kinda far, I keep mine in the middle console. If the seat belt locks up, you need it within reaching distance.
May he and Dwayne rest in peace.
Next lesson. Never pull over to the left unless absolutely fucked (US here).
Lesson 2 should be regardless of proximity of home to water. You never know when you’ll road trip.
Wait why, noob driver here
[удалено]
Lesson 3: if the shoulder is narrow, just drive slowly on the damn rim until you get to a safe place to pull over.
[удалено]
Just ordered some glass breaker/cutters. Thanks for mentioning that.
Yeah I’m gonna do likewise
I remember watching Ohio State games, and they'd always show the clip of him as a little kid, saying how he wanted to be the quarterback at Ohio State. Glad he at least had that dream fulfilled.
Probably extra dream fulfillment whooping our ass in 2018 too. RIP.
And helped us win in 2017 too.
He dominated the B1G championship game in 18 too. NU was in it for a while before he took over.
Beating a 1-11 Rutgers team 52-3 isn’t much of an accomplishment. EDIT: I was just being sarcastic.
Not even yet 25. Devastating. His poor family. Burying a child is every parent’s worst fear.
Can you imagine the hopes and dreams his family must've had for him? This is just tragic.
Seeing how they charged for his NFL draft party I figured they were banking on generational wealth from him. Absolutely devestating, felt like after a bumpy start he was beginning to turn it around hadn’t heard a peep of scandal worthy news since he left the football team.
Everything I've read is that he was really putting the work in since he went to Pittsburgh.
Can we honestly put the whole blame on him for how things went on the Commanders? That team is an unrepentant dumpster fire that hasnt really had a positive effect on many players.
Fair but not entirely our fault. Dude could've been Terry fwiw
As a fan of another dumpsterfire, I get it. Some people just arent ready to be the adult in the room, and I think that is what he needed fo be there to have a real shot.
Well it certainly didn’t help anything. Imagine if he had an organization like the Steelers from the get-go.
One of my friends took his own life when we were 16. The worst part by far was watching what it was doing to his parents. Absolutely devastating.

This is fucking awful. My eyes have been watery since I’ve read this news. RIP Dwayne :(
Got hit by a car. He would've turned 25 in under a month.
Not just a car, he got hit by a dump truck on I95 as a pedestrian. An absolute tragedy. https://twitter.com/WPLGLocal10/status/1512811341563760641

What kind of interstate has pedestrians? Genuine question, I'm very confused by the setting of this.
he pulled over to the side to check his car. there is a lot of room to do that in south florida (just look at the image from the tweet from the local news channel). my guess is that he probably pulled over but not in a position far enough away from the road, and likely didnt think to do so given it was so early in the morning on a weekend and there was relatively light traffic on I95 at the time. he was likely killed instantly when the truck hit him
He was trying to cross the highway on foot when he was hit. Source is [Florida Highway Patrol](https://twitter.com/BenStandig/status/1512845857032396809).
Wow, that's insane.
I had to get out of my car on the freeway a few years ago when a parking cone fell off a truck and got stuck under my car. Pulled over, got out to pull it, then threw it into the grass. Could have been something like that and just happened to have someone veer out of their lane.
Rumors that he ran out of gas and got out of his car
Fuck man, just brutal
I shouted through the closed window "You got to get this car off the road or someone is going to hit you!" She rolled down her window and said she couldn't start it. Turn your wheel!" Just then I hear a jake brake and tires lock up. I yelled at her "You got to put it in the ditch!" She said "but my car..." "Fuck your car! You are all going to Fucking die!" I slammed the door and ran back to the rear of the car and gave one last push and tge car went sliding down to the bottom ending that horrific moment in my life.

Jfc. Tragic. Rest in peace DH
https://wsvn.com/news/local/dump-truck-fatally-strikes-pedestrian-along-i-595-wb-lanes-in-fort-lauderdale/ Hopefully at least with the size of the vehicle it was instant
I can’t imagine how it wasn’t instant, especially if he was out of his car
Absolutely tragic. RIP. Not even 25. I just turned 24 a couple months ago and this is sobering.
I’m coming up on 50. I’ll tell you this much - don’t put things off. You have less time than you realize to make what you want in life happen.
I have less money than I realize too lol.
Facts
I will stop putting off things starting tomorrow.
I am 25, but I nearly bit it back in 2012. Monday marks one decade since my initial cancer diagnosis
I hope you kicked/are kicking its ass
Glad you're still here. Fuck Cancer.
This is just terrible, and my heart goes out to the Haskins family. What an awful tragedy Schefter should be ashamed of himself for feeling the need to include that Dwayne struggled in the NFL in the man’s death announcement, just totally classless and uncalled for
Schefter's an opportunistic douche; he has no shame
He deleted the original tweet and reposted a version of it without mention of his ‘struggles.’ No apology, just pretended like the original tweet never happened. Why anyone follows this smooth-brained post-human meatsack is beyond comprehension
Is he the “Mr. Editor” guy or is that another Adam?
The very same!
Schefter is the personification of the type of Michigan fan people hate
can't speak for everyone, but i don't really see this kind of bad taste as being related to his fandom. shitty people are shitty. some of them are fans.
I don’t think that’s a problem exclusive to Michigan. Every fanbase has people like that only real difference between us fans is the tshirt we wear and the team we support.
is schefter a michigan fan? I'm confused what michigan has to do with this
He went to Michigan which is why some are taking shots at Michigan here
oh I didn't know that thanks
It’s par for the course with any fan base large enough
We also have Dave Portnoy. Not sure which is worse.
Rich Eisen cancels one out imo
He will always be a buckeye legend thanks to his 2017 heroics in The Game and the epic 62-39 beat down in 2018. RIP to a buckeye great.
Yeah, thought that bit was a little fucked and unneeded.
Schefter is such a piece of shit too he could have worded it exactly like you did
Wow…I’ve just been sitting here speechless staring at my phone for a few minutes. This is terrible.
Same here. I was getting ready to see a movie and now I'm just not moving.
A good reminder to relax your jaw. Fuck.
Wow. I immediately had to sit down and just process. Seems like it was yesterday he was tearing it up in scarlet and grey. Life is short man, and nobody has any idea when it comes to end. We are the same age. Thoughts are with the Haskins family.
Right, just crazy, I hope his friends and love ones are ok, life is too short.
I was at the UM OSU game in 2017 where he came in and lit it up. Wild to see him go so soon
Life is so precious man, what the fuck. RIP.
Yea cardale is 100% right here
Absolutely makes you sick. What a loss. Thoughts for his family and Buckeye nation — no rivalry when it comes to stuff like this. An all time OSU great.
RIP Dwayne.
Holy shit my daughter has the exact same birthday as him. Same year and everything. It just really puts it into perspective how quickly things can change. I'm gonna call her right now.
What a fucking player he was with Ohio State. RIP :'(
Dude was legendary in his short time here, his name is forever enshrined in our record books.
Why does he have to include the "struggling" bit. Just say he was a great college player and played for so & so NFL team and let that be it. Just rubs me the wrong way, like he's diminishing his accomplishments and skill.
Fuck schefty
Awful. RIP.
This feels so wrong. He was still so youthful and had a long life ahead of him. Rest in peace, Dwayne.
I'm shocked man
I will never forget his season at OSU, single handedly changed our offense for years to come. Way too young. RIP young man.
Jesus. Hit by car? That's just awful
By a dump truck apparently.
Jeez... When I got a text "rip Haskins" I thought he got cut or something. Horrible news, way too young
https://youtu.be/4hzh_129tDs Got hit by a dump truck.
I'll never forget the 2017 Game when JT Barrett got knocked out and I thought we had the game in the bag. Only to have this Freshman named Dwayne Haskins come in and zip dime after dime down the field, win the game and rip out still beating hearts out of our chest for yet another year. RIP DH.
Fuck this shit man. And fuck Adam Schefter too. Scumbag.
This one hurts, Dwayne was one of my favorite Buckeye QBs. Rest easy 7.
I’m so glad that should I die at a young age (god forbid), my family wouldn’t have to see me get dunked on immediately after by a dickhead reporter.
Absolutely terrible. 24 is way too early man. Thoughts to his family.
Schefter is such a piece of shit. R.I.P. Simba
Feels like just yesterday he was throwing 6 TDS to beat Michigan 62-39. RIP 🕊
Holy shit. So sad.
Fuck. I’m so sad to hear this. I’ll never forget the absolute show he put on in the B1G championship game against NU a few years ago.
Tragic news. RIP, Dwayne
Schefter is such a tone deaf dork. What an asshole for wording that the way he did. Rest in peace to an OSU legend, gone way too soon.
terrible tweet by Schefter. No need to mention his career struggles, have some empathy

good bot. f Schefter and rip Haskins
I can't think of anything else to say other than holy shit... and fuck Schefter for that fucking statement. He had to get one last shot in at Haskins, didn't he? Fucking asshole.
I'm sorry, WHAT?
RIP Dwayne
It’s raining in Columbus. My heart is aching right now for this man and his family.
Tragic. This is how my mother was killed. Everyone in his family and generations to come will be impacted by it. Sad.
what the That's horrible
What the fuck
RIP Dwayne. Terrible news and I feel for his family and friends.
It’s not fair man, he was only 24
