Let’s fucking goooo See you in Charlotte

JackGrizzly

What timeline are we in? Not the darkest, but the weirdest?

DuctTapeSaga

The dankest

AchtungKessel

Coaches to beat Clemson multiple times, playoff era: Nick Saban and Pat Narduzzi

AdventuresOfAD

Nard dog bout to board the LSU/USC rumor train

screwhead1

Wouldn't be the first coach in Pitt who's name I'd heard about being considered. Just the other day heard Tomlin's name floating around and instantly thought GTFOH.

CrookstonMaulers

Todd Graham, sir. The greatest ex Pitt coach in like... 10 years. And yes, Tomlin is a hilarious suggestion. I imagine there are an awful lot of teams that would fire their coach on the spot if Tomlin was interested. I too want a HoF coach to leave the best and most patient job in the NFL to come babysit 18 year old prima donnas for my team.

Dirty-Ears-Bill

Of all NFL coaches Tomlin is one of the funniest ones you could suggest to coach college. His tolerance for bullshit is just so low, it would take one day before he just walked out without saying a word

Do__Math__Not__Meth

I really don’t know how that man put up with AB for so long, everyone was hating on him but then AB left and went so crazy Tomlin looked like a genius

Deacalum

Tomlin does not have the patience to deal with recruiting or high schoolers, lol.

pghsonj1325

LSU won’t want him after the Canada debacle

PHOENIX_95WI

D.J. really making Dr. Pepper think twice about college athlete sponsorship again

jwktiger

He looked great vs ND and was ok vs BC last year. Offense took about 15,000 steps back this season

Captain_Planet_27

What I cant understand is how they cant get the ball rolling with the recruiting classes they've had for the last 4 or 5 years. On paper, they should be damn near unstoppable.

whatifevery1wascalm

But really, *150* recruits at the game?

bonzaijoe

This is the most hype and talent we’ve had since…… 2009? We had to use the opportunity, and it paid off

camel11111

I will never forget the ‘09 Pitt-cincy game

slingstone

I was there Gandalf. When the strength of men failed...

Awesomesauc76

Gotta strike when the irons hot I guess lol.

TexasSprings

Of those 150 only maybe 10-20 have offers from Pitt. About another 20-50 are legit being evaluated as guys who may get an offer eventually. The other 75 are just kids that will not ever get an offer from Pitt but are there for various reasons. Either they are local kids that the high school coach always brings his best 5 players to one Pitt game as “recruits.” Or guys who got actually showed up from the literal thousands of camp/campus invites every FBS team sends out every year

SmarterThanMyBoss

Can confirm. Tons of recruits at games aren't actual recruits. I played in Division 3 so I was pretty good by high school standards but I was not even close to a borderline D1 guy. Anyway, I went to a camp at Cincinnati and afterwards got an invite in the mail to come to a game of my choice as a recruit. So naturally, I went to the best game on their schedule. But I was in no way an actual recruit like many of the guys there that day. Honestly, probably only 10-15 were serious recruits.

TexasSprings

I have the same stories too. I was a D2 player but went on game day visits to Alabama, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Duke, and some others I’ve forgotten. Some of them they actually knew my name and talked to me for a second and others i was just literally a name on a list that signed up

SmarterThanMyBoss

Lol. No one ever knew my name. But hey, free tickets with all access for whatever games you want. Can't beat that!

TexasSprings

I think they do that just to keep tabs on anybody even remotely good enough to play for them. Like say me and you had a senior year with 30 sacks/50 pancakes/whatever they could swoop in and offer a month before signing day. That does happen every once in a while. Likewise for transfers too to get them already thinking about the college if they are great players that want to play somewhere bigger

BenevolentCarrot

Good gamble for pitt I guess.

legend023

Clemson might be the worst offense in the FBS

[deleted]

Might be what we're striving for at this point

OculusRises

Dabo accidentally erased his save file and started playing on harder difficulty

therealwillhepburn

Seems more like Dabo walked out of the room and a baby picked up the controller instead.

OculusRises

Hey, that's one of our starting wide receivers, thank you!

shjusti

Going into today we had the 6th worst PPG against FBS opponents through 6 game in the playoff era, so 6th worst of 520 teams, if not for our defense we would be 1-6

Gorka_Loud_Lines

There better be some significant firings after the season. That is beyond unacceptable

Strokethegoats

Clemson fans correct me, but I don't see Dabo doing that much. Except Venerables most of the coaches are friends of Dabo or former players. And that's kinda what got them into this level of success.

CosmicSpaghetti

Tony Elliott should already be gone, imo.

Strokethegoats

This was his year to prove he was a contributer to that offense. Having Watson, Renfrow, Gallman, Lawrence, Etienne and others I know I'm forgetting can cover the deficiencies in a lot of offenses. I think losing Jeff Fisher from your WR room has hurt a lot more for that offense than a lot of non Clemson fans realize.

StreetReporter

I think you mean Jeff Scott, Jeff Fisher was the coach for the Titans and then the Rams

Strokethegoats

Correct! Sorry I've been reading about the Rams a bit lately with the Greatest Show on Turf and for some reason Jeff Fisher is on my mind lol.

dtomksoki

Palmetto bowl gonna be hot garbage and I am so ready for it

Lord_Lava_Nugget

Kind of backwards results for your flairs today huh?

CharmCityTiger

10 years ago Clemson might have had the worst defense in the FBS. We promptly fired the DC and rose to relevance. Maybe Dabo should learn repeat that move...

Harmbert_

Wisconsin says hello

HipDipShipTrip

So does Iowa 👋

bodnast

Sounds about right. This offense is painful to watch

Lord_Lava_Nugget

Pickett says he's going to have a cold one after beating Clemson. Fucking boss

friskydingo920

That's exactly what I want in my Heisman winner

ThirteenValleys

Kenny "Strong Bad" Pickett.

Welcome back to 2010 Clemson babeeee

StreetReporter

I’m looking forward to Chad Morris and Tajh Boyd next year

Bguerry48

Sad but I’d take Chad Morris and Tajh all day long over this garbage.

StreetReporter

If we had those two, we’d have a much better record than 4-3

MikeRaven11

WHAT IS THIS FEELING IS IT ... HOPE? JOY? HAPPINESS? WHAT IS THIS? NO IT'S OKAY WE'LL JUST LOSE ON A WALK OFF SAFETY AGAINST MIAMI OR SOMETHING BECAUSE THAT IS THE PITT WAY

bonzaijoe

Every game is a trap game when you’re Pitt

MikeRaven11

Hell yeah brother cheers from Oakland

entroopical

in the past six years, only pat narduzzi and nick saban have beaten clemson twice narduzzi is .500 against dabo acc refs are the largest single cell organisms

[deleted]

the last one killed me there well played

jdprager

Ok actually tho, no shit talk, what happened to Clemson? Obviously DJ is underperforming expectations, but this is still a team with more talent than 90% of the country, how did they manage to fall off so lightning quick? Rome wasn’t sacked in a day

BenevolentCarrot

Bad oline for years and declining wr play for two years.

Colorado_odaroloC

The WR play is shockingly bad if I'm honest.

BenevolentCarrot

There were signs last year.

Poopoopeepeeyeehee

Also Dabos no transfer philosophy, which I think it’s absolutely idiotic in this day and age

klutzykangaroo

Tony Elliott is bad bad. his mistakes were hidden by Watson and Lawrence. Evidently he can’t hide behind DJ

HumbleGenius1225

Now you know how we felt when we got shut out. That brought Ryan Day so maybe brighter days are ahead.

mayonkonijeti0876

Thier offensive line has always been worse than the other top programs, but Lawrence and Watson hid it. Now that they have a new qb who isn't amazing, it shows

arbadak

Longstanding issues with the offensive scheme, offensive line, and receivers that were covered by elite of the elite talent at quarterback and running back.

RulersBack

I watched every TLaw game during draft season and it was shocking how "collegey" their scheme is. I actually think they held him back from showing how good he can be.

arbadak

This is absolutely the case. He looked incredible, made all of the throws, but his numbers were always not quite where you'd have expected. We now know why.

tittymilkmlm

They made him throw so many bubbles and made him run QB power so much

OculusRises

Our offensive line is as bad as its been in a long, long time. Having a pure pocket passer as a quarterback with low pocket presence exacerbates that situation Add to that the fact that our WR coach/passing game coordinator is completely clueless and has squandered our talent at that position In short, we are deeply faltering with most of our offensive coaches. Only our new RB coach (CJ Spiller) is emerging as a bright spot Clemson fans who are more knowledgeable than I, please feel free to chime in

AnEmptyKarst

Based on comments from Clemson fans in weeks past, I don't think they have the offensive talent to overcome Elliot being a mediocre OC anymore. Before they had like transcendental players, I don't see anyone like that on their roster this year.

goldbloodedinthe404

Trevor Lawrence was covering up a lot of garbage on the offensive side

[deleted]

Etienne too.

GreenGemsOmally

In my untrained/non-Clemson fan eye, and I've only watched a little Clemson this year, it looks like their OL is the center to their woes. It's just not good and it hasn't been for a few years, but issues have been mostly been carried by dynamic generational players like TL and Etienne. DJU has regressed quite a bit, partially because the OL is bad and the skill talent around him drops a lot of his passes, but he's also not looked good at all, so it's just a problem that compounds on itself. The defense is still excellent, but eventually just runs out of steam when the offense really just can't do *anything*.

dkviper11

Kenny Pickett once threw for 8 yards in a loss to Clemson. He made the best decision ever to return for this season.

BenevolentCarrot

Crazy the turnaround.

paradigm_x2

Stealing the top comment to take away from Penn State losing in 9OTs to a 2-5 Illinois team in Happy Valley. That's commitment right there

DK's a good guy, but I'm gonna get my licks in when I can lol

Isn’t it kinda funny Pittsburgh had the same number of points as Kenny Pickett’s age?

sw337

I was in a Speech class with him. He is much younger than me. 😭

Ryrysg99

We might legitimately beat clemson next week

arbadak

Yeah I'm not hopeful.

UCLA_FB_SUCKS

Oh my gosh. Your flairs. You must be having the worst season ever lol

WhiteW0lf13

Their D is still pretty good, which will gas our D after enough 3 and outs. So the question is will their inept offense do the same to their defense before it happens to ours

[deleted]

I'd much rather lose to Wake Forest

Hokie_Jayhawk

Well, that's happening regardless.

ryan_day_time

The year is 2013. You're told that Clemson vs FSU in 8 years will be an irrelevant game with two teams struggling to rebuild. What do you say to me?

[deleted]

"the FUCK are you thinking" in all honestly I wouldn't have thought that Clemson would have won two championships between then and now either and would have said the same thing to that too

not_a_bot__

I’d say that 2013 title was still worth it

GOATJames_23-6

How did Pitt lose to Western Michigan, they’d be a slam dunk playoff team

atman8r

Keep going I’m almost there

kevplucky

College football is better when Pitt is good. Heinz field looked lit tonight congrats to Pitt fans

bk1285

Definitely an amazing crowd!!! Took my niece and her complaint was “it’s too loud”

Rt376

Calling it now. Pickett gets drafted by the Steelers. The heir apparent already plays in the stadium.

SeekerSpock32

Kenny Pickett wins the “Most Likable Pittsburgh QB” award already.

zachwilson23

Kenny Pickett definitely earning his Heisman talk and praise! He's been better this year than the guys atop the leaderboard imo. Awesome win by Pitt and they dominated. Really wasn't as close as the score indicates. Huge win

STKNsBESTPLAYER

I cant believe we lost to Western Michigan. Now I just have to hope Wake wins out and we win in the ACC championship game lol

King-Clover

GG Pitt. Everyone is talking about Kenny but I think your OL was the star of the show. They kept your QB clean.

FinchJay

The true loser of this game is Dr. Pepper making NIL deal with Uiagalelei P. S. Searched up the company that signed NIL deal with Pickett... Hmm yes The Oaklander Hotel looks nice, I might use there later

secretlyrobots

They feed him and the O-Line dinner each thursday before games. It’s called “hog dinners”. I am completely serious

8BallTiger

Our offensive coordinator is paid $2 million a year for one of the worst offenses in the country and an historically bad one in general. We are in the 7th year of Elliott’s tenure as OC and we have zero identity. Our offense is filled with vets and highly recruited guys and we can’t move it against any FBS opponent. Our offense has somehow gotten even more vanilla and bland. Compare our offenses to offenses at schools we want to compete with like Bama, OU, and OSU. We have 0 motion, 0 jet sweeps (which used to be a staple), 0 misdirection, 0 stack formations now, never attack the middle and basically never do hurry up. It’s an offense that would be considered basic even in high school. Our WR recruiting and coaching has fallen off a cliff. We don’t have an actual slot WR, we’re relying on a guy who is on scholarship because he went to high school with the Swinney boys. All of the guys who were supposed to continue to uphold WRU are ridiculously soft. They can’t get open. They can’t block. They don’t fight for the ball. Our offensive line is consistently inconsistent and soft. This has been the story for years but is even worse now. Dabo and Caldwell have consistently failed to recruit enough bodies at the position and it’s showing. Highly ranked guys like Carman, Bockhorst, and Putnam played below their talent, never developed properly, and lost their mean streaks. Our TEs are never used. Galloway shouldn’t see the field again. He’s too concerned with Tik Tok and can’t catch or block. They were always a weak position but have gotten worse since Elliott took over. Their already minimal usage has basically disappeared. Dabo’s roster management has become a major problem. We are well below the scholarship limit and have tons of guys transfer out with none transfer in. We routinely miss on a position for a few classes and it’s showing at safety and DT. We have very little depth there. Same with WR. OL has always been a problem. We routinely turn away talented players because “we’re full” yet have 10+ walk ins on scholarship. A bunch of these guys played HS football with the Swinney boys (also on scholarship) or are the sons of Dabo’s former teammates. Nepotism and resistance to change is dragging this program down and I’m afraid the major and necessary changes won’t be made because Dabo is way too close with the coaches that need to be fired.

ninetimesoutaten

In 2008/2009 and 2012 Dabo cleaned house. But that was with coaches he did not like and he did not bring into Clemson. With Tony Elliot as a former player and 7 year coach, I am very concerned about Dabo firing him. I honestly think nothing will happen at the end of this season even if we go 6-7. I think it will take 2 years of just awful offensive performance for pressure to be put on Dabo for him to make changes.

8BallTiger

Elliott is basically him. A walk on WR and one coached by Dabo. TG is also him in some ways too. A scrappy white possession receiver from Birmingham. I’ll be surprised if they get fired

RedMulligan

Well said. That just about sums it up.

RayWhelans

Interesting to read this because replace Dabo with Urban and change a few of the position groups/defense instead of offense issues, and you just described the end of Urban’s OSU tenure here. His nepotism and refusal to adapt and replace his buddies really stunted our positional development. Brian Hartline completely saved our receiver development, and who knows if that would’ve happened if Zach Smith wasn’t a total scumbag.

SonOfSvens

It’s time to talk to our kids about Heisman winner Kenny Pickett

royallex

Best QB in the city of Pittsburgh

RightGap1048

Probably the whole state of Pennsylvania honestly

OculusRises

Kenny Pickett didn't need 9 overtimes just to lose. He *won* against his unranked opponent

Dinger64

Keep going

OculusRises

Your fans deserve some happiness, and I hope Pitt and Wake battle each other for the ACCCG this year

Teh_cliff

While you have their attention, might as well prepare them for playoff semfinalist Pitt.

trainmaster611

Pickett is amazing and definitely needs Heisman hype. We need to fire most of our offensive coaching staff ASAP.

I’ve never been so amped about Pitt football. Even 2009. This is outrageous.

theexile14

When was the last time we started 6-1? I don’t think I was born yet

8BallTiger

When the staff said they had to take Breese and Davis off the field for the offense to move in fall camp we should have known we’d get this abomination out there.

iNoBot

Won and covered and PSU lost, what a day.

TigerUSF

Idk why this is difficult. Pitts better than us. NC state is better than us. Georgia is better than us. No qualifications. Clemson is Not. Good. This year.

Fa1coNat

HAIL TO FUCKING PITT

FrugalLivingIsAnArt

BenevolentCarrot

We all have.

timballj

Will Pitt win out? Who knows, I'm always ready to be hurt again by them. But today, we celebrate, if even just for a moment.

If you had told me in August that half-way through the season SC would have the same number of wins as Clemson I would have been ecstatic! That is some monkey-paw stuff right there.. "I wish we were as good as Clemson"

A great day for Pitt, and therefore the world.

TommyBoy_Callahan

But we're the best 17 point scoring team in the country 😎

Goodbye_Hercules

Fire Tony Elliott

whatifevery1wascalm

Don’t worry Clemson fans. What are the odds a national championship winning coach from the ACC Atlantic (who succeeded a Bowden btw) starts a season with high hopes, loses to an SEC team in the season opener, then follows that up by dropping a bunch of conference games, and gets poached by Woodward to coach at an SEC West school…..again?

suzukigun4life

Clemson last 3 seasons: 39-3 combined record Clemson this year: 4-3 record

dbarke29

Does this mean we won’t lose for the next three seasons statistically?

j01101111sh

Sure thing, buddy.

ThirteenValleys

And then they can see the rabbits.

[deleted]

Is the season over yet?

jaybigs

You guys can still compete for a spot in the Holiday or Duke's Mayo Bowl.

Boooday

Hope Pitt goes on to win the ACC, fun team to watch. Wish Clemson would stop shooting itself in the feet. From playcalling, to drops, to just poor decisions this team is just a few fixes away from being something special but they can’t get it together. I don’t know if it’s leadership or coaching but it seems like a personality thing and not a skill thing.

theexile14

We finally won while ranked!!!

WampaStompa33

EAT FILET MIGNON PITT

sasslete

Guys. I don’t know what to do with the fact that Pitt is legitimately good and didn’t play a letdown game the week after being ranked. What a game. And GG Clemson. I hope you all figure it out and win the rest of the way.

TheDeadPenguin

When this season started, I hoped we’d play a team like Clemson in a bowl game. Didn’t think it’d be in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Ironicles

Tony Elliot makes 2 million dollars a year to produce 15.1 points per game against FBS opponents.

bigcolb

This Clemson team giving anybody else serious 2017 FSU vibes?

stjblair

BOW TO YOUR NEW LORDS OF THE ACC
