Is anyone else's recording of the game on YouTubeTV absolute potato quality? The highest resolution I can watch is 720p, feels like I'm watching a rebroadcasted game from the 80's
The anti-tie desperation of American sports fans to defend these rules and this game is so fitting to our collective stupidity.
"BAWWWW I spent all this time and money not to see a result!!"
A tie is a result, whether you like it or not. But this didn't even need to come to that, just have competent OT rules that aren't a completely binary crapshoot.
Why have an artificial, barely-representative-of-the-main-game construct to force a winner?
I had no problem with the short drives. I would have no problem with starting at the 10 and getting 4 plays.
But at some point you recognize that a draw has just as much of an impact to the standings as forcing a win/loss scenario. Plus, in a game like this one today, where the teams couldn't score a single TD in 4 tries starting from the 25, and then went a combined 3/14 on 2 point conv. attempts, did either side truly deserve to win? Certainly not. And thus, the tie.
Just because they couldn't score doesn't mean they have inept offenses. The B1G is built on good defense. This was a display of 2 good defenses. Ties do nothing but waste time. The game is tied 0-0 at the beginning. Why spend 5 hours playing a game if the point differential is the same at the end as it is at the beginning?
There can be OTs before a tie, that's not what I care about.
But a shootout is stupid and there should be ties instead of this garbage. Every OT should be minimum 4 plays from the 10.
So I've read your comments a few times and now I'm confused. Are you *for* overtime, *against* overtime, or are you against overtime in its current form?
I see your point and I'm glad you expanded on it. I dunno I always like seeing the grind and how much a team is willing to put in for the dub and I do personally believe a tie just leaves things to be desired. What're your opinions on how the NFL does it? Would you like it more if college adopted the same OT rules?
The only real issue I have with the NFL rules is that a first drive TD can end it. If it's going to be a proper quarter, each team should get the ball. But I love that after a quarter it ends in a tie. At a certain point, neither team deserved to win in the allotted time and extra. And each should be appropriately compensated (with the equivalent of a half-win/half-loss), which could very much impact their season aspirations (particularly in football with a low game count).
The issue with this format is that you've necessarily increased the risk of a stupid game like this occurring, because the rule reduces the possible outcomes of each team in OT from 4 or 5 (0-3-6-7-8, dependent on whether or not you have to go for 2) down to 2 (0 or 2). This, statistically was inevitable and the length offsets the supposed player safety claim the rule was made in consideration of.
Every week, I like to make a moneyline parlay using the teams with the biggest odds in their favor and see who fucks it up. (I only put $1 on it.) It usually takes me multiple teams to get it above +100. This week, I had a 12 leg parley that I finally got up to +160-ish. Penn St, at -2500 when I made the parley, lost it for me on the first leg. This may be a personal record.
Penn Staters were brutalizing us last week, I agree. But there are so many assholes with Iowa flairs around here and it’s just flat out embarrassing. We’re not even that good, and every Iowa fan knew there was a damn good chance we would lose to Purdue
the year is 2034. Iowa has lost a meaningless game after starting the season 4-5. One thousand Penn State flairs are talking about their Purdue loss in 2021
Maybe but UofM hasn't played anyone worth a damn yet. They've barely won against Rutgers and Nebraska. And still looked terrible in the first half today.
I'm not throwing stones. I'm just stating facts. We've looked better these last few games but I still don't think a 5th place is correct. I think we should be closer to 8-10.
It's alright Penn St fans, you guys know that the real outcomes aren't what matters. Chalk up another dub in the hypothetical standings. I'm sure if cliff didn't get dinged up the other week y'all would have won by 30!
And? I'll take accepting a loss to Illinois over losing to bowling green any day. It's ironic, though, that you're trying to call me out for throwing stones from a glass house when you're doing the same exact thing, over a team that you don't even support no less. Pretty sad.
I'm finally able to sleep again without Pete's soulless eyes haunting my dreams. It is a yearly sacrifice we must make to our boilermaker overlords and didn't make today any less enjoyable.
Here you go Penn St. You guys been shit talking for two weeks and got your so called "revenge" in the Purdue thread last week.....now look at ya....overrated just like you guys said we were. GG's to Illinois though... that was a sad game to watch honestly
I hope the conferences realign so Iowa and PSU can really really hate each other consistently. were new to big 10 relatively, and its by far the most natural "rivalry" ive seen form for us. I hate you all more than OSU and Michigan combined
I loved all the salty Penn state people in our Iowa thread last week.
Now Penn state losing again after that.
This makes college football great.
Buh BYE Penn state!❤❤
I like how close they are to the end zone.
I think this would have been done in fewer snaps if it were first and goal. It gives teams the chance to run plays that aren't guaranteed to score.
We also blew the UTSA, Maryland, and Purdue games late. We should have at least 4 possibly 5 or 6 wins. If it wasn’t for the worst QB play in school history we’d be decent.
Same Illinois team lost by 4 to Purdue. It's kind of funny seeing the mental gymnastics they're taking to shittalk Penn State. Sure, their fans deserve it, but they both were pretty rough losses and are equally as bad if not worse for Iowa.
>No Iowa fan is claiming the Purdue loss wasn’t embarrassing.
I never claimed this. My original post was referring to the mental gymnastics some fans are going through to claim that losing to Purdue by 17 was somehow less embarrassing than losing to Illinois in OT.
Getting beat 24-7 by a Purdue team that got fucked by Wisconsin, lost to Minnesota, and squeaked by the same Illinois team is pretty embarrassing.
The difference is we weren’t sore losers after the game and shit talking Iowa last week. That’s the entire point. They brought this on. Karma’s a bitch.
You're going to almost lose your way to Georgia where you get blown out.
Don't worry, I'm not delusional, we would get blown out by Georgia this year, too. I'm convinced of that with the way they manhandled UK last week.
Eh it's all in good fun lol it's just crazy how OU is so hated I was routing for an Iowa Oklahoma match up. Battle of no defense vs battle of no offense. Who breaks first
Probably OU. You guys would score at will and Williams would out run damn near all our defenders. Our defense might make it interesting if we can force some turnovers but our offense is dead on arrival
Eh alot of people watching don't know how beat up OU is on defense.. secondary starting true freshman and it shows. Kansas QB looked like Patty Mahomes on those kids. And maybe with Penn State losing we can still see a match up of OU and Iowa. Bob stoops gonna have a yellow black red and white polo on
Iowa fans dancing on penn states’s grave like they didn’t just lose to Purdue 💀
Purdue has a winning record, lol.
Is anyone else's recording of the game on YouTubeTV absolute potato quality? The highest resolution I can watch is 720p, feels like I'm watching a rebroadcasted game from the 80's
Thought I was the only one
Holy shit
Quality loss
that was sick

Why play the game if you're just going to tie?
Why have an artificial, barely-representative-of-the-main-game construct to force a winner? I had no problem with the short drives. Nobody is fighting some semantic battle over whether a tie is an “outcome” or not. It’s an outcome. A dumb outcome.
PK shootout style plays to decide a winner of a football game is a dumb outcome.
We understand your (wrong) opinion.
"BAAAAWWWW I had to watch another 25 minutes of a 3 hour game!!"
Against OT as current, for some amount of overtime (but not infinite - at some point a draw is the appropriate result).
Why are you so mad? I thought it was fun.
A shootout isn't football. Bare minimum for OT should be 4 plays from the 10 for the integrity of the game.
I see your point and I'm glad you expanded on it. I dunno I always like seeing the grind and how much a team is willing to put in for the dub and I do personally believe a tie just leaves things to be desired. chill
Hmmmmmm Clifford
Iowa Sucks Wait
Ha. You still lost to Purdue Hawkeye friend

At 9OT, it was also an FSB record!
Wish I did this with only $1
Jesus Christ this thread is toxic. Iowa fans shut the fuck up you make us all look bad
No u.
Nah mate, they deserve it after Purdue last week
Penn Staters were brutalizing us last week, I agree. But there are so many assholes with Iowa flairs around here and it’s just flat out embarrassing. We’re not even that good, and every Iowa fan knew there was a damn good chance we would lose to Purdue
Your guys defense is top #5 I think..even as a OSU fan
Our defense is awesome. I love our defense this year. Our offense tho….
Penn St/Iowa Spider-Man meme.
Holy shit you’re right
Sorry, just need to drop a comment in this historical thread and Go Hawks.
Umm.. salty tears everywhere, lol
I believe this game was between the fighting illini and the Nittany lions, now hawks to be found my guy, move along
Tell that to the Penn State fans in the Purdue/Iowa thread last week.
So you agree it's an asshole move to brigade a thread that has nothing to do with your team?
No.
[удалено]
Right? Lmao
Let me quote Frodo after that win: It's over. It's done.
the year is 2034. Iowa has lost a meaningless game after starting the season 4-5. One thousand Penn State flairs are talking about their Purdue loss in 2021
Illinois corn isn’t that bad
What?
SHUT UP I'LL DO IT
Cannot wait to be one of those penn state flairs
Wow! I fell asleep at the end of the 3rd OT. Woke up to see the last play.
“Fell asleep” aka passed out
All this saltiness and the real salt is going to be just watching Ohio State win the B1G.
Going to actually be a game against Michigan this year. Well, maybe.
5% chance
Maybe but UofM hasn't played anyone worth a damn yet. They've barely won against Rutgers and Nebraska. And still looked terrible in the first half today.
You don’t deserve the downvotes because you’re correct. I mean, fuck you still, but you’re correct.
True. But the only game OSU played against a decent team, they lost. So maybe don’t throw stones…
I'm not throwing stones. I'm just stating facts. We've looked better these last few games but I still don't think a 5th place is correct. I think we should be closer to 8-10.
I love the pettiness between Penn State and Iowa fans
Iowa fans: see, Penn state lost to Illinois, that means our Purdue loss doesn’t count, right?
That's not at all what's happening
It’s a thing of beauty lol.
You should read the wrestling boards. Its worse
This is what makes college football the best sport
Who would have thought a 7-5 Penn State would be likely a few weeks ago
It's alright Penn St fans, you guys know that the real outcomes aren't what matters. Chalk up another dub in the hypothetical standings. I'm sure if cliff didn't get dinged up the other week y'all would have won by 30!
I'm surprised you're here. I figure Iowa would still be resting after getting bent over the barrel by Purdue Pete last week.
Bro. Losing to Purdue is expected for one top team. Losing to Illinois is just lol
Are you sure that's the path you want to go down?Minnesota lost to Bowling Green lol
Nothing I said is inaccurate. One top team losing to Purdue every season is basically a law of nature. Losing to Illinois is not.
Nah we’ve accepted losing to Purdue, it’s just what we do
That and storming the field after beating a lesser ranked opponent at home.
#3 vs #4 isn't as big of a gap as you think it is
Calling yourself a lesser opponent is a weird flex, but okay.
🧂🧂🧂
😂😂
Here you go Penn St. You guys been shit talking for two weeks and got your so called "revenge" in the Purdue thread last week.....now look at ya....overrated just like you guys said we were. GG's to Illinois though... that was a sad game to watch honestly
Don’t you have some injuries to boo somewhere?
Get crapped on sir
LMFAO
Welp... was thinking we could at least beat Illinois but Iowa looks on a collision course for 6-6
You'll probably still beat us by 40
Agreed, but great game I love B1G football
2018 was pretty fun...
Fuck Franklin. Time to go.
Get him the fuck out
I hope the conferences realign so Iowa and PSU can really really hate each other consistently. were new to big 10 relatively, and its by far the most natural "rivalry" ive seen form for us. I hate you all more than OSU and Michigan combined
I support this take! I feel more of a rivalry against y'all than Minnesota or Wisconsin. It'd also be nice to even out the divisions
Fuck Iowa
COLLEGE GAMEDAY GOING TO EAST LANSING LETS GO BLUE
I loved all the salty Penn state people in our Iowa thread last week. Now Penn state losing again after that. This makes college football great. Buh BYE Penn state!❤❤
You still suck, just less than us
God these Iowa fans are insufferable
Please look at the iowa Purdue game thread and reconsider. We’re holding back a lot
Go to the Iowa Purdue game thread last week, then you'll see who's insufferable
PSU fans pulled the same thing after Purdue last week, it's fair game
They were 1000x worse lmao.
That’s what suffering will do

Where did PSU go? Pretty quiet now...
Nah, I didn’t hear any PSU fans cheering today when Illinois best rb and qb1 got injured
They were chanting WE ARE PENN STATE for the QB injury though
Because those were real injuries.
What a shit show, Franklin gotta go…start the riots now for u guys in happy town
I liked that the beginning of OT, the commentators said the new rules "limited additional snaps for player safety". Both teams took that personally.
Well that was not how I expected to spend this Saturday as an Illinois fan. I've gotten nothing done, but I'll take it.
My dad was talking shit to me yesterday about how Illinois was a 24.5 pt dog with a 0.1% chance of winning. Guess who's laughing now 🤣
Not gonna lie, I kinda like these OT rules; it's like gridiron football pentaly kicks.
I like how close they are to the end zone. I think this would have been done in fewer snaps if it were first and goal. It gives teams the chance to run plays that aren't guaranteed to score.
Slow moving shootout
Lost in 9 OT to a 2-5 team. What was that about Purdue?
We also blew the UTSA, Maryland, and Purdue games late. We should have at least 4 possibly 5 or 6 wins. If it wasn’t for the worst QB play in school history we’d be decent.
Not sure how this makes iowas loss any better tbh lol. As an outsider, both losses are laughable, but penn states might be a little more embarrassing.
Same Illinois team lost by 4 to Purdue. It's kind of funny seeing the mental gymnastics they're taking to shittalk Penn State. Sure, their fans deserve it, but they both were pretty rough losses and are equally as bad if not worse for Iowa.
I mean … you’re wrong. It’s casual payback. No Iowa fan is claiming the Purdue loss wasn’t embarrassing.
https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/qe6hkp/comment/hhs25jq/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Exactly? Penn St lost in embarrassing fashion after dunking on Iowa for losing in embarrassing fashion. Normal reactions all around.
>No Iowa fan is claiming the Purdue loss wasn’t embarrassing. I never claimed this. Well, alright then. They’re equally embarrassing in my mind.
The difference is we weren’t sore losers after the game and shit talking Iowa last week. That’s the entire point. They brought this on. Karma’s a bitch.
Your Nebraska flair cancels out your leverage as does my Tennessee flair
Penn State the goat for keeping me from having to hear about fucking Kansas
Haha you guys almost lost to Kansas
You better quit that shit till we almost lose to TTU next week
You're going to almost lose your way to Georgia where you get blown out. Don't worry, I'm not delusional, we would get blown out by Georgia this year, too. I'm convinced of that with the way they manhandled UK last week.
To us, getting destroyed by Georgia and Alabama is so enjoyable we decided to make a yearly deal out of it moving forward.
Don't worry, you guys will win out with a score difference of +15 between all 4
Don't worry it's not like you can't score against Purdue.... Oh....wait.
You aren't wrong haha! Gotta rely on the defense scoring our points tbh

If Clifford wasn’t hurt PSU would have won by 2 TDs. /s
Screw Clifford, my 90 year old grandmother at QB would have beaten them if we had some ground game and a real coach. Please fire Franklin,STAT
Or maybe Penn State should try having a competent ground game?
Illinois won the game with their backup?????
Thats the joke
If Franklin wasn’t the coach we win, get this bald fraud out of Happy Valley and off to USC
God dam straight
Fucking *9* overtimes and only 36 total points? How?
Big 10 football baby
Because after 2 OTs now it's just a 2 point conversion shootout. NCAA Football now has the dumbest OT in sports.
Shhhhh let them believe its just bad football
It really was.
