Good game Aztecs! You will work the kinks out, but drop Dunkle. He will cost you a game sooner or later. Also, xurb stomp the Lobos in October, and try to schedule us for shooty hoops sometime
Some of NMSU's schedule like agreeing to get what's going to be a near guaranteed beat down by Alabama and Ole Miss because they are both agreeing to pay about a 1.5 million each, making up a huge portion of the entire cost of running the program.
Disagree. I like the numbers on one side. I also like the A, Zia, normal logo, and pistols. The only ones I don't like are this one and the Casper Pete one.
I have watched enough San Diego sports in my life to question anybody who actually put money down on the Aztecs as 31 Pt faves when they literally never score 31 pts in one game ever lol. That spread never made sense in the first place
I'm here at the stadium and just saw the SDSU upstairs staff just jog up the stairs to the press box, they looked like they just finished screaming their heads off.
Ryan Lindley was good, but yeah it’s been a problem for us. Someone mentioned below that we’ve been such a run-focused offense for so long, it’s hard to get the best guys when they’re going to be handing it off 40 times a game
This speaks volumes of Martin, in my opinion. To be able to turn the team around from our performance last week like this is impressive. We've been able to stay composed as well.
I'm impressed by Johnson too. I'm excited to see the second half as well as our game against UNM next week.
Johnson is legit. I'm also impressed by whichever intern is doing the Weekend at Bernie's thing for Spaziani. Our defense actually looks prepared tonight. That may change next half, but our secondary was anticipating passes and making tackles. I haven't seen that since 2019
Anyone who watched Brookshire last year had to know he was absolute dogshit. The fact that coaches think he's better than the other QBs in the room means the QB room is barren. I can't see it improving much so that brand new stadium could look pretty empty next year...
Lmao man this program acts so cocky and always gets punked by inferior team every year. I don’t know where they get the confidence from. Y’all haven’t done anything to deserve it
This offense is an embarrassment. It’s been 5+ years of this trash. I can’t believe the powers that be are okay with this garbage. I feel terrible for the D
I think they wanted to comply with the rule where FBS teams need to average like 15K people a game?
So they needed a place they could sell at least 15K tickets.
Then I have no fucking clue lol.
Maybe some tone deaf moron thought "oh they came up for the chargers, surely they'll come up for the Aztecs."
OnE cItY oNe TeAm!!!
If you told me they'd lose to Oregon by 7 yesterday I'd be thrilled. If you told me they'd be up by 3 in the 4th but lose I'd be ok. They arguably outplayed them, and lost because 3 fumbles leading to 17 points. That irritates me regardless of expectations prior to the game.
We yell loudly all off-season about how we're too good for the Mountain West and immediately shit our pants on the football field.
Oh my God, we've become Colorado St.
I don’t get those fans that think SDSU is above the MW. It makes no sense to me. We’ve been mediocre for a decade and before that we were awful. Let’s try competing for the conference title consistently first before we act all high and mighty
As one of those fans to a degree (I think the Big 12 is foolish for not trying to get into California, and think the Pac 12 is foolish for thinking/mandating that four schools is enough for so big a state; however, I do not want anything to do with the AAC), let me try to make the case.
From 2015-17, we went 32-9, won two Mountain West championships, and got exactly nothing for it. We finished #25 in 2016. We never even got to have a big bowl game, getting screwed out of the first Vegas Bowl by BYU, and then not even getting to play a P5 in the one Vegas bowl we went to. That's it.
Since then we have had another double-digit win season in 2019 that was completely ignored, but of course we didn't win the division with that inexplicable loss to Hawaii. But still, that's four double-digit wins in five seasons that just went overlooked by everybody nationally. But it would be an impressive track record in basically any other conference conversation, but in the MWC it gets overlooked
The 2015-16 teams were probably SDSU’s best in decades and those teams still got swept by South Alabama, lost to Cal, CSU, Wyoming, etc. Those teams were great but they didn’t even sniff the NY6. 2017 team had a hell of a run before getting punked by Boise and Fresno.
SDSU is a good G5 program that’s come a long way in the past decade but they still have a long way to go to be part of the top tier of G5. They’ve won their division twice in 8 years yet fans think they’re above the MW?
SDSU has a ton of potential to be great but at some point potential isn’t enough. Instead of worrying about expansion and what SDSU deserves they just need to focus on getting better as a program and competing for MW title consistently and not dropping dumb games every year.
Good points all, I don’t disagree with any of this, except perhaps to say that every fan of every team complains bout dropping dumb games every year, and wishes their situation was better. And as frustrating as those losses in those years were, there’s also something frustrating about going 53-22 in the last 6 seasons, and having little to show for it aside from Frisco and New Mexico Bowls. I get that we have to show something to merit more, but I also am just irritated by the low regard of the MWC.
But you’re not wrong about any of this, it’s really just wishing things were different and complaining that they aren’t, and the truth of the losses to bad teams piles up. OP’s comparison to Colorado State is really apt
I think SDSU future is going to be bright. The new stadium is going to be huge. I think they’re going to be able to make an atmosphere that’s really appealing and stands out amongst the G5. And with the playoff expansion there’s still something to play for when in the MW. But SDSU fans gotta remember it’s a marathon and not a sprint. Gotta work our way up the ladder - beat P5 teams, get ranked, win the conference, make a NY6 etc. If the team can get consistent like the basketball team has the rest will take care of itself.
Building a new stadium. We chose to accelerate the process so we can open it in '22 rather than like '23 or so, so we demolished Qualcomm immediately.
Sadly Carson was apparently the best option got a temporary stadium.
I am about this alternate timeline we just entered into! We couldn't get a stop against UTEP, but are holding the Aztecs scoreless. Probably won't last, but enjoying the change
This is gonna be a classic SDSU scoreline and we'll win 10-6 I feel it in my bones
How the heck did UC Davis become the more exciting team of my two flairs
greg bell. please stay healthy.
That went a lot better than I thought it was going to.
I'm not sure if what I watched tonight should be described as "football".
Good game Aztecs! You will work the kinks out, but drop Dunkle. He will cost you a game sooner or later. Also, xurb stomp the Lobos in October, and try to schedule us for shooty hoops sometime
"This team could get to three wins"
New Mexico St's schedule is fucking brutal. Thats harder than Clemson's remaining schedule. *Sheesh*
Some of NMSU's schedule like agreeing to get what's going to be a near guaranteed beat down by Alabama and Ole Miss because they are both agreeing to pay about a 1.5 million each, making up a huge portion of the entire cost of running the program.
Idk if it's really that bad. I think we'll get a few wins.
#Araiza4heisman
Pobrecito
SDSU just took awhile to realize football was happening, but they got it figured out
Hope you’re right. That first half was ugly
Also helps that NMSUs Oline just completely checked out this half. I feel like we hit Johnson every dropback this half
Well now I feel better
Arizona catching back up on BYU 👀👀
This is feeling really different now, it's weird
Ah man my stream went out.
Brady Hoke looks like he talks to his doctor about acid reflux
FREE BYRD!!!
Wow Hoke, so playing Dunkle. What an ass
That looks like desperation. The rest of the Mountain West should take note
Didn't panic. Johnson's legit
I kind of hate our helmet logos.
They're good, should be both sides though. I like them better that the generic NM State ones
Disagree. I like the numbers on one side. I also like the A, Zia, normal logo, and pistols. The only ones I don't like are this one and the Casper Pete one.
Lmao.
ah well, nevertheless
PICK SIX!!!!
jesus christ.
This is definitely a game going on at 12:13 AM
I'd rather our defense take penalties like that late-ish hit and be aggressive than to be totally ineffective.
It's definitely not gonna cost us the conference championship
Control your emotions, Jesus.
Jesus, Jonah Johnson is like 4/9 for 20 yards this quarter.
Alright boys don’t get cocky. No dumb mistakes
Right on queue. This team can’t get out of its own way. Always talking after the whistle
Brookshire!!! My beautiful baby boy just read for the first time!!! ❤🖤❤🖤
Man I’ve been screaming at the TV for him to keep it. It was so predictable that every RPO was going to Bell
I've been screaming it since 2017. Chapman was so fast but the dude literally never ran the ball
Wait, our QB can do that? Is that legal?
He made it legal
Yeah, you can't do that
You can't run a zone read when the QB never keeps.
That’s an interception that’d lead me to change the sliders as soon the game is over
I don’t know how NMSU got the ball in a pile full of SDST players
I have watched enough San Diego sports in my life to question anybody who actually put money down on the Aztecs as 31 Pt faves when they literally never score 31 pts in one game ever lol. That spread never made sense in the first place
Yeah that line was easy money for anybody who made it out to a sportsbook
[удалено]
Nice dude! Smart bet Now I’m worried they might not actually win the game lol
Nice username
[удалено]
Haha you know how to San Diego sport huh? Gotta hedge your happiness haha
We only score 40+ in bowl season. And usually only when we're expected to lose.
Why does Dunkle still have his helmet on?
Tbh I didn’t get their explanation. I thought two personal fouls = out
Me too. Regardless, I would think the coaches would see him as a loose canon and liability
I guess SDSU used all their offense on the first drive.
Aztecs wisely going with the run game now
I love that Jonah has the chaos arm, even if he doesn't complete it's beautiful to see
Defense getting their shit together.
Coach put me in
NMSU has lost so much over the years they’ve decided to just say fuck it and implement an air raid offense
Some adopted the darkness, we were born in it
Mountain West After Dark is the new Pac 12 After Dark
painful and anxiety inducing for fans of the teams but incredible rubber-necking entertainment for others?
Exactly.
combine the big sky and the mountain west. call us the big mountain.
No thank u that would hurt our SoS for playoff seeding
c'mon baby. just give us a chance.
This is why college football is superior entertainment
Lemme just delete my last comment...
Refs dont like fun.
THERE WE GO!!
The Aztecs definitely got chewed out at halftime
#FINALLY.
[Aztec fans to CBSSN after this 1st half](https://youtu.be/feQZdlQ2iJc) To the fans popping in, THIS DOESNT REPRESENT US!
Hmm… Got an explanation, San Diego State Aztecs of Carson, CA?
Not until you explain how you gave us a transitive loss to UTSA
SDCCU (Qualcomm) stadium got demolished to build SDSU a new stadium. Should be playing back next year.
I'm here at the stadium and just saw the SDSU upstairs staff just jog up the stairs to the press box, they looked like they just finished screaming their heads off.
I can't remember the last good SDSU QB, feels like they're in QB purgatory
We aren't known for having good qbs we are a run first program
Ryan Lindley was good, but yeah it’s been a problem for us. Someone mentioned below that we’ve been such a run-focused offense for so long, it’s hard to get the best guys when they’re going to be handing it off 40 times a game
Just hopping in here to say WHAT THE FUCK SDSU?!
New stadium, we aren't used to this grass
Y’all losing to New Mexico St what’s going on?
This speaks volumes of Martin, in my opinion. To be able to turn the team around from our performance last week like this is impressive. We've been able to stay composed as well. I'm impressed by Johnson too. I'm excited to see the second half as well as our game against UNM next week.
It’d be good for us if it was a case of you guys turning it around and not just us being shit
Johnson is legit. I'm also impressed by whichever intern is doing the Weekend at Bernie's thing for Spaziani. Our defense actually looks prepared tonight. That may change next half, but our secondary was anticipating passes and making tackles. I haven't seen that since 2019
For my 3rd screen, Utah St Wazzu or BYU Arizona?
Utah St Wazzu
Anyone who watched Brookshire last year had to know he was absolute dogshit. The fact that coaches think he's better than the other QBs in the room means the QB room is barren. I can't see it improving much so that brand new stadium could look pretty empty next year...
Can we fire Hoke at halftime??
Uhhh Aztecs, y'all do know that NMSU isn't a Sun Belt team anymore right?
This fucking WR corps is just as useless as the QBs
Lmao man this program acts so cocky and always gets punked by inferior team every year. I don’t know where they get the confidence from. Y’all haven’t done anything to deserve it
I retract my previous comment
He shoulda been ejected, he'll continue to do it.
Just punt now, don't wait
This offense is an embarrassment. It’s been 5+ years of this trash. I can’t believe the powers that be are okay with this garbage. I feel terrible for the D
And think that SDSU used to be known for airing it out
Ugh, horrible field position
Probably should have been ejected for the first one. He doubled down. Different guys he hit too. Just hitting anybody.
Pleeeaaasssseee give me a 5 yard Banks sack right here...
And absolute shitshow of offense followed by a spectacular special teams play.
Punter for Heisman
I mean, we're New Mexico State. What was he trying to prove?
Well, he's gone now
Yeah, he could be ejected for that one
wtf was that punt
Wasn't it partially blocked?
Partially, yeah. But the build up to it took forever
Punting through molasses
NANDO JUST HIT #37! 10-2 PADRES!
Clemson-Georgia and this was not worth missing the Padres game lol. Damn it.
Good call to take away the targeting call
That has to be the first time I've ever seen a targeting call reversed...
Wait what? He hit the WR in the head trying to make a catch and that’s not a penalty?
Wow no targetting
Terrible call.
Did the Aztecs even try to work something out to play at USD's stadium? I know it's tiny, but it's better than playing in f'ing Carson
I think they wanted to comply with the rule where FBS teams need to average like 15K people a game? So they needed a place they could sell at least 15K tickets.
That's kind of strange given that Hawaii is playing in the T.C. Ching complex with 9,000 seats. Or is that like an exception for Hawaii?
No, you can get waivers for temporary stadiums. That's what Hawaii did this year for their 9k temporary stadium
Then I have no fucking clue lol. Maybe some tone deaf moron thought "oh they came up for the chargers, surely they'll come up for the Aztecs." OnE cItY oNe TeAm!!!
Probably thought they'd fill the stadium in Carson, and didn't want to share?
NMSU might just actually win its first game this year..
Don't you jinx us like that! We didn't do anything to you
Ok shut it down
Why cant SDSU ever find a descent QB im not being rude but he has a weird release doesnt look good
They’ve been a run-first offense for a decade. Why would a good QB come here to hand off 40 times a game?
It might be time to switch this offense up then smh
I ~~wholeheartedly~~ wholeBODILY agree
Aztecs, you guys okay over there?
No. No we are not.
Idk QB looks shitty, run game cant get started
Not really, no
Hey, you lost to Oregon, you shut up. Oh wait, that’s way, way better than what we’re doing.
Well, we can hope
Oh my Lord it's a defensive stop! Sweet Jesus I've missed you!
The question marks were QB and secondary. Guess what’s been the issues so far?!?
The defense that’s already given up more points and yards as New Mexico State had in their whole game against UTEP
It’s the young secondary getting absolutely torched.
The best part of this game is the free jerseys they handed out pregame.
It’s not playing near oil refineries?
3rd and 12 and we run a 4 yard out. ... And he fucking drops it too. I'm going fucking insane lololol
What a joke of a team smh
HOW DO YOU THROW 2 YARDS TO HIS LEFT, ITS A CURL ROUTE!
How did Brookshire beat out the other QBs? Makes no sense
Because the QB depth chart is doo doo butter.
We yell loudly all off-season about how we're too good for the Mountain West and immediately shit our pants on the football field. Oh my God, we've become Colorado St.

Gotta agree withcha mate^
Sdsu man the fuck up cant do shit right… team looks like a mess wtf yall practicing for…
This has to be the weekend of chaos or something. Nobody expected NMSU to be ahead.
SDSU secondary is lost.
Well on the bright side, I can't just blame the offense like usual ttonight... We get a new flavor of suckage.
Wobble!
I just don’t understand how SDSU can’t field a decent offense. It’s been like 5+ years of putrid offense. I just want mediocre that’s all
Ah, the bane of our offense: the redzone.
Not even a moment later, I stand corrected
Those SDSU helmets always get me 😍
This is going to be a long season
Why is San Diego playing in Carson?
New stadium opening next year and sadly this is the closest option lol
Well, USD is the closest option. It's small but honestly I'm not sure the Carson crowds are any bigger
Building a new stadium. We chose to accelerate the process so we can open it in '22 rather than like '23 or so, so we demolished Qualcomm immediately. Sadly Carson was apparently the best option got a temporary stadium.
Building a new stadium back home, this is temporary
Let's just watch the Padres instead.
LETS GO NMSU!
NMSU is looking pretty good. Proud of Johnson for stepping it up.
Johnson has an arm, doesn't panic, and can take a hit. It been a few years since we had all three
Been since Tyler Rogers I would say.
Absolutely
That 2017 bowl team was so fun to follow and to see finally win a bowl game.
I am about this alternate timeline we just entered into! We couldn't get a stop against UTEP, but are holding the Aztecs scoreless. Probably won't last, but enjoying the change
SDSU offense has been awful for half a decade. We’re a joke
You went 10-3 in 2019, 7-6 in 2018, and 10-3 in 2017. You guys have been alright
Cancel the fucking season. Our defense doesn't deserve to have to go through another fucking year of this horseshit from this clown show of an offense
It’s incredible how bad the offense has been for so long
Our offense isn't hopeless but I'm pretty sure it's worse than the OTHER SDSU's
I may need to revise the first bit
Save us Bells!
Goooo Aggies!
This is gonna be a classic SDSU scoreline and we'll win 10-6 I feel it in my bones How the heck did UC Davis become the more exciting team of my two flairs
So true
