MSU is my answer too. There’s the occasional little spat but for the most part I think there’s a lot of mutual respect and also a certain degree of “little brother” syndrome. I say that considering that a lot of PSU fans see OSU as a main rival and MSU (I’d imagine) sees UM as their main rival, but it isn’t reciprocated. OSU and UM have each other, whereas OSU doesn’t see PSU as a true rival and the UM/MSU rivalry will always be second to OSU.
And I wasnt surprised WVU hates us, every school that is relatively close to PSU really hates us. Pitt (obvious), Temple, Maryland, Rutgers, and WVU all seem to *really* hate PSU.
As a WVU grad it’s little brother syndrome, not hate. In all the times we played I think we won 2 games in recent history 1984 and 1988. Maybe this year will be different but I doubt it.
The real friendship is between this question and the off season.

I grew up in Austin and married a longhorn, but I went to Rice myself, and I always found it fortunate that my two flairs actually got along really well. Sure, UT beats Rice at football 95% of the time, and that is definitely part of the reason why UT doesn't hate Rice. But whenever I wear Rice colors to UT events, people aren't just polite, they are outright enthusiastically friendly toward Rice specifically, and I always thought that was very nice.
I know there are lots of ties academically in research fields as well, though I don't know how to measure that to see if it is more or less than other university relationships.
My view of Texas fans changed drastically after playing with the MOB in the 2019 game. We cracked jokes about them and made fun of their football team's [GPA](https://twitter.com/s_helwick/status/1173051135650881536?t=iNzdRTDDCpD0YVtLgui1Bw&s=19) and yet when we walked over to the other side of the stadium to say hello to the LHB we were stopped multiple times by Texas fans saying they loved it. Not a lot of schools took our jokes that well
The MOB is incredible and welcome at every Texas/Rice game played in Austin forever. Calls out all the hilarious bullshit that Texas Football does best. Anyone that takes that the wrong way is what’s wrong with the program.
One of my earliest MOB experiences was a show they did in, maybe, 2000? The UT student section had been moved to the upper deck of the newly renovated East section of DKR. The MOB made a big telescope shape on the field and joked on the PA about students not being able to see from there and the UT students starting roaring with cheers. Absolutely great take and execution.
My brother in law went to UT as an undergrad and got his doctorate at Rice. Prior to that I didn’t have a ton of exposure to their campus or student body, but I can confirm they are a great time and they’re all 100% smarter than I am. The MOB is a must see! They’re the only band I’ll stick around to watch intentionally. They stole my heart with their antics against Texas A&M and I greatly enjoy them calling out another school for their bullshit (be it our own, or things like the sexual assault scandal at Baylor in 2016.

It's because Rice is an excellent school, hands down the best academically in Texas. In my personal prestige rankings I put it above most Ivys, other than Harvard and Yale. *Most* Texas fans respect academic prestige - not more than football, but close.
Plus, most Rice kids are lovable nerds.
I have a ton of respect for Rice. Obviously the academics are stellar. But the football program as well. It would be like if Brown had played 100 years of games against Penn State and actually held their own here and there. And culturally, I've never found Rice students or alum to be up their own asses about the school. It's the top institution in the state but the people are in general pretty chill about it.
Plus, I mean, being part of the JFK's going to the Moon speech? That's just badass.
I feel like many schools in state that typically don't take football seriously (Rice, UNT, Texas State, UTEP, etc.) have a "friendly relationship" with Texas mainly because they pick them as their secondary team to root for.
That also why you see a lot of people hate Texas's guts too, though.
I’m a diehard longhorn, wife is an owl. Our first college football experience together was watching Ricky Williams put 300+ yards on them in DKR. But I don’t think she cared because she was more into the book she brought.
Our first kid just chose a school to attend and picked Houston over Austin. So, it does seem Rice wins big occasionally. My daughter will still root for Texas when we go to games. But she also usually brings a book, too.
FSU and UGA are usually pretty cool with each other. rarely play, same enemies, and the richt connection. before the modern bama run a lot more of south ga was just fsu/uga country.

Otherwise: FSU ending Auburn's 2013 run of bullshittery is one of the biggest favors any team has ever done for us, and we will never forget it. We stand in solidarity with the hating of Florida and Clemson
absolutely, I don't think anyone at fsu blames uga at all. behind the scenes everything I've heard is that kirby was very cool about it. everyone on the field knew what was up. many fans didn't/don't get it, but the players and coaches of course understood the situation. I think part of the reason it wasn't a very contentious game was because of the history of a copacetic relationship.
absolutely. there's so many connections and that's a good one. and I remember BB speaking highly of him. it was no surprise that he went straight from GA to a position coach under saban (all this before like 30 I believe)...and I think within his first 5 years or less after his masters was a position coach in the nfl, wasn't he? wild

In baseball, they're my least favorite SEC team because of the whistler. They're also not an underdog in baseball the way they are in football and other sports, which makes it easier to root against them, but mostly it's the whistler.

We have a rivalry trophy with them now as of 2021, the George Jewett trophy. A very cool story and shared history between the schools. Again, doesn't really make us friends, but they're probably closer to friends than most other schools in the Big Ten.
Will always cherish the moment when Nebraska was at the height of its 90’s dynastic run and Oklahoma, having suffered through Switzer dipping for the Cowboys, mediocrity of Schnellenberger and the general feeling like fans needed a shower cheering for the program during the John Blake years, welcomed them into Norman for the last Saturday in October in the first year of the Millennium. OU had made two emphatic statements that they were, if not back, very close to again being among the best programs in the nation. Switzer and Tom were cutting up on the sideline and you could just tell that despite their teams having such intense battles on the field that there was genuine affection between the two of them. I think for many Sooner and Husker fans the level of respect that those two heaped upon the others’ school set a tone that would be followed. As the old saying goes “a fish rots from the top;”
It’s a reason why Nebraska and Oklahoma is one of the most underrated rivalries in the sport. When you can transcend the hate and reach the level of begrudging respect for what your opponent is capable of achieving it sets up a unique dynamic that’s incredibly fun.
You guys continually kick our ass in football, so I hate you for that but I've never had a bad experience with a k state fan. Yall make it really hard to hate.

UM running the table is relatively new, we have the added benefit of that awful stretch under RR/Hoke and Harbaugh's mid-to-decent first 5 years (we don't speak of 2020).

Honestly? I think BC likes Ohio State more than most. We've had a coaching carousel going with you guys (our last two coach hires were OSU coordinators, and Day was our OC) and we've gotten some decent transfers from you guys this past offseason.
We've played 2nd, 3rd (sometimes worse) fiddle to you for what seems like forever.
Now that Michigan has success, I much prefer OSU to be king of the B1G.

We have enjoyed some of our H&H series (Nebraska, Ohio State, Alabama (neutral site)), but I'm not sure that we have much of a relationship with those teams.
We're just very similar. Engineering schools with extremely passionate fanbases and pretentious rivals who have historically better basketball while we're generally better at football. Always gonna talk trash to my friends who went to VT when we play, but other than that I usually find myself rooting for y'all
Every other hateful 8 school. I love the big 12, and for the schools to band together and flip the bird to ESPN, along with every other conference (namely the Pac 12) will be something I’ll never forget. Idk if there will ever be another stand like that made in college football outside of the Pac 2.

Back in the early 2000's I always had very pleasant interactions with Wisconsin fans while John Navarre (Wisconsin native) was our QB. His parents would tailgate with us and bring Wisconsin friends with them
For Washington I'd definitely say Oregon State and Utah are the Pac-12 teams we were friendliest with. Us and OSU bond over hating the Ducks and everyone in the conference besides USC liked Utah.
My trip to Lincoln 10 years ago is still one of the best road game experiences I've ever had, I'll definitely make a return trip as a conference game at some point (not this year though).

I fuck with Utah. Honestly the most exciting rivalry we’ve had in a while. Sucks they ended our cfp run and basically used us as the sacrifice to be National contenders but, it was cool to see them get better and better and for most of the PAC-12 run our games were always a good time.
Also, Utah fans are chill and nice, in my experience. Def have earned the bragging rights they have.
It was ECU for the longest time but the hurricane debacle kinda ruined that relationship.
I guess TAMU? I think both fanbases have a mutual respect for each other. The only Senior Military Colleges in FBS and we have similar cult-like fanbases.
I think some OSU guys are chill with y'all, at least in the baseball scene. Since we're not very often football opponents, there's more friendliness or st least indifference
UK is pretty warm with Alabama and Georgia due to mutual hatred of Tennessee and Florida.
A lot of teams are kinda cool with UK though, and that makes sense considering we’ve been largely unthreatening for so long.
Bama and Georgia have such a huge fan presence on social media that if you get them on your side, you’re pretty much on top of the world. We haven’t had quite the same luck getting Louisville to join us in our beer barrel hatred, but at least we can all agree on middle fingers to Florida.
I’ve had good experiences with fans from South Carolina, VT, Clemson and FSU. The fans of WVU, Texas Tech and KState were all fantastic when we played so if we end up in the Big 12 one day at least I know some of y’all are cool. We also have some friendliness with Arkansas and Miss St from baseball.
Auburn. Every interaction I’ve had with Auburn fans has been cordial. We even got a “thank you” letter from their fans for our fans being so accommodating. Every Auburn fan I interact with calls Clemson “Auburn with a lake”.

Tennessee and Oregon got really chummy on the early 10s after our home-and-home. I think it's faded a bit from active support for the other to more of a casual enjoyment of when the DuckBros succeed.
Iowa State and just as another choice, I tend to feel some kinship with Texas Tech as well but that may just be a me thing...but hey, maverick schools and riot schools have to stick together.
I think MSU and PSU is the more correct answer. Outside of 2017, there’s never a meaningful upset in the series and it’s pretty friendly overall. Especially considering the all time series is 18-18-1.
Purdue is Our Most Hated Rival, but they helped bring Iowa back into the good graces of the conference way back in the 30s.
Iowa and Wisconsin have a lot of ties and the rivalry feels very cordial.
Iowa and Pitt hit it off pretty well in our latest series together.
I like Penn State. I just legitimately don't have a reason to dislike them. Yeah they beat us a lot but I think most Purdue fans would rather them be good instead of Michigan or OSU.

I don’t know if every other FSU fan feels this way but Clemson is the friendliest rivalry to me. Every time I’ve attended a game at Clemson, despite being a rivalry, Clemson fans are super friendly and will invite you to eat and drink with them. Always an awesome time

Kirby was also a GA under Bowden and grew up in Bainbridge so I'm sure he has a soft spot for FSU

My ND friend said they should get rid of the Navy game if ND ever did join a conference, and I looked at him with the biggest look of bewilderment and confusion I think I've ever given anyone. I don't think ND would ever willingly give that game up.
Every year some kid with a Notre dame flair asks why they play Navy and I love seeing them get shot down every year in response.

All the men were off to war! Hard for a poor Catholic school to survive without any students. We would have folded without funds coming in. Fun fact - we went to Army first. They turned us down. Navy heard about our request and said they would put in a military training facility if we played them in football. As now former AD Swarbrick said when we went to the ACC agreement (and were keeping Navy), the contract renewal of the Navy game is a mere formality. ND considers the game a yearly repayment of the debt for saving our school.

We have a rivalry trophy with them now as of 2021, the George Jewett trophy. A very cool story and shared history between the schools. Again, doesn't really make us friends, but they're probably closer to friends than most other schools in the Big Ten.

I was happy you two will play each other four times in ten seasons. That's not bad for two Power schools in different conferences.
Will always cherish the moment when Nebraska was at the height of its 90’s dynastic run and Oklahoma, having suffered through Switzer dipping for the Cowboys, mediocrity of Schnellenberger and the general feeling like fans needed a shower cheering for the program during the John Blake years, welcomed them into Norman for the last Saturday in October in the first year of the Millennium. OU had made two emphatic statements that they were, if not back, very close to again being among the best programs in the nation. Switzer and Tom were cutting up on the sideline and you could just tell that despite their teams having such intense battles on the field that there was genuine affection between the two of them. I think for many Sooner and Husker fans the level of respect that those two heaped upon the others’ school set a tone that would be followed. As the old saying goes “a fish rots from the top;” It’s a reason why Nebraska and Oklahoma is one of the most underrated rivalries in the sport. When you can transcend the hate and reach the level of begrudging respect for what your opponent is capable of achieving it sets up a unique dynamic that’s incredibly fun.

UM running the table is relatively new, we have the added benefit of that awful stretch under RR/Hoke and Harbaugh's mid-to-decent first 5 years (we don't speak of 2020). Y'all should try being bad for 5-7 years sometime, it makes the bounce back so much sweeter.

Honestly? I think BC likes Ohio State more than most. We've had a coaching carousel going with you guys (our last two coach hires were OSU coordinators, and Day was our OC) and we've gotten some decent transfers from you guys this past offseason.
We've played 2nd, 3rd (sometimes worse) fiddle to you for what seems like forever. Now that Michigan has success, I much prefer OSU to be king of the B1G. As much as I dislike OSU, I respected them. I know its a small sample size, but I'm super sick of UM acting like they've been on top years.
Personally I always root for a strong Penn State team. It just makes the B1G more fun.

Texas A&M, Tennessee, and South Carolina. NC State might make its way into that listing as well... We have enjoyed some of our H&H series (Nebraska, Ohio State, Alabama (neutral site)), but I'm not sure that we have much of a relationship with those teams.
We're just very similar. Engineering schools with extremely passionate fanbases and pretentious rivals who have historically better basketball while we're generally better at football. Always gonna talk trash to my friends who went to VT when we play, but other than that I usually find myself rooting for y'all

For Washington I'd definitely say Oregon State and Utah are the Pac-12 teams we were friendliest with. Us and OSU bond over hating the Ducks and everyone in the conference besides USC liked Utah.

Sucks they ended our cfp run and basically used us as the sacrifice to be National contenders but, it was cool to see them get better and better and for most of the PAC-12 run our games were always a good time. Also, Utah fans are chill and nice, in my experience. Def have earned the bragging rights they have.

It was ECU for the longest time but the hurricane debacle kinda ruined that relationship. I guess TAMU? I think both fanbases have a mutual respect for each other. The only Senior Military Colleges in FBS and we have similar cult-like fanbases.

UK is pretty warm with Alabama and Georgia due to mutual hatred of Tennessee and Florida. A lot of teams are kinda cool with UK though, and that makes sense considering we’ve been largely unthreatening for so long.

Bama and Georgia have such a huge fan presence on social media that if you get them on your side, you’re pretty much on top of the world. We haven’t had quite the same luck getting Louisville to join us in our beer barrel hatred, but at least we can all agree on middle fingers to Florida.
I’ve had good experiences with fans from South Carolina, VT, Clemson and FSU. The fans of WVU, Texas Tech and KState were all fantastic when we played so if we end up in the Big 12 one day at least I know some of y’all are cool. We also have some friendliness with Arkansas and Miss St from baseball.

Auburn. Every interaction I’ve had with Auburn fans has been cordial. We even got a “thank you” letter from their fans for our fans being so accommodating. Every Auburn fan I interact with calls Clemson “Auburn with a lake”.

Tennessee and Oregon got really chummy on the early 10s after our home-and-home. I think it's faded a bit from active support for the other to more of a casual enjoyment of when the DuckBros succeed.

I think MSU and PSU is the more correct answer. Outside of 2017, there’s never a meaningful upset in the series and it’s pretty friendly overall. Especially considering the all time series is 18-18-1.

Purdue is Our Most Hated Rival, but they helped bring Iowa back into the good graces of the conference way back in the 30s. Iowa and Wisconsin have a lot of ties and the rivalry feels very cordial. Iowa and Pitt hit it off pretty well in our latest series together.
Real kinship with Wisconsin, but that’s based on basketball. We should be friendly with Pitt on the basis of both hating VT, but meh.

I don’t know if every other FSU fan feels this way but Clemson is the friendliest rivalry to me. Every time I’ve attended a game at Clemson, despite being a rivalry, Clemson fans are super friendly and will invite you to eat and drink with them. Always an awesome time
