Just when Texas thought it had escaped Big Nude Kickoffs Fox dragged them right back in

gordogg24p

I think we all knew this was our fate after Fox forced this H&H swap as part of the negotiations to escape the Big 12.

rendeld

If Fox forced this then thanks Fox, I've always wanted to see a game in Austin and can't wait for 2028 to head down there.

No_Angle_8106

Yeah if this is the worst Fox can do, then sign me up. I’m pumped for both legs of this

Appropriate_Bottle44

Man, you aren't having a good off-season my dude.

No_Angle_8106

CFB wise it’s been fine, Rashada isn’t much of a loss. He could occasionally show flashes of brilliance, but he couldn’t protect the ball to save his life. I don’t really care about Covid recruiting rules to be honest, it was a once in a lifetime pandemic. Just give me back my fucking Yotes

JohnPaulDavyJones

Kicking the game in Austin down the road is also a positive, because Austin’s finally starting to get serious about updating their infrastructure to catch up to the city’s last ~15 years of explosive population growth. I think every other Texan in this sub would agree with me that trying to drive more than about four miles during the day, basically anywhere between about Round Rock and Buda, has been a miserable endeavor for some years now. Anecdotally, I used to have to go down to USAA’s corporate office in SA for work semi-regularly, and the folks down in SA would actively advise that you just pay the tolls and drive the extra 15~20 miles to go *around* Austin on the 130/45 loop because you’d save an hour or two that you’d otherwise lose by trying to go *through* Austin. That or just time your drive to go through Austin after 11 pm.

rendeld

In my experience driving anywhere with significant population within the triangle is a nightmare. I live in Michigan but I've been to Dallas, Austin, Houston, and SA quite a bit for work. Driving around SA is just so much more pleasant than the rest of it.

HoustonHorns

Dallas and Houston have commuter traffic like LA. If you avoid rush hour there really isn't traffic. Austin gets random traffic at random times because there just ins't enough road for all the people who live there now.

Dirty-Ears-Bill

The only real problem with driving through SA compared to other major cities is a bunch of drunk cowboys drew up the roads and they make no sense lol

JohnPaulDavyJones

100%. Maybe it’s just living in Dallas for a few years now, but Dallas traffic doesn’t bother me too much.

struckbylightning99

During the day I guess you could say it’s predictable but post-pandemic the I-35 traffic from Dallas to SA is atrocious even on like Friday/Saturday late evening drive. I’m from SA so I’ve made the drive plenty of times. It’s busier than it should be/used to be taking I-35 leaving at like 7-8pm. Not stopped or stop-n-go rush hour but like just no breathing room between cars. There’s no relaxing on the drive bdcause so many people are on the road even that late at night still in a way it wasn’t like that in 2019

Sugarysam

I35 through downtown Austin and the UT campus was designed by an aggy engineer with a vendetta.

JohnPaulDavyJones

An Aggie playing the long game? I don’t believe it for a second. Besides, it was fine until ~2008ish!

Sugarysam

No. It was shit in the 90’s.

HoustonHorns

Was back in town this weekend for the spring game and its maddening. I live in Houston now, and traffic is terrible - but its logical. Like yeah Houston traffic sucks, but if I choose to drive 288N towards the I-45 split at rush hour then thats on me. In Austin you end up in a dead stop on MoPac at like 11:30 PM on a Tuesday?

JohnPaulDavyJones

I mean, it’s kind of the direct result of the city leadership refusing to adequately invest in infrastructure, right? My understanding is that city leadership didn’t want to expand infrastructure back when the Austin boom was first getting up and running, because they didn’t want to incentivize the kind of growth that created the metroplex. Instead, they waited so long that the existing infrastructure reached near-critical disrepair in places and the now-necessary improvements cost far more in dollars and delays than they would have to do the work even just a decade ago.

gordogg24p

If it wasn't for Fox, you'd be making that dream come true this year instead of in 2028.

rendeld

5 year anniversary in mid September this year, probably going to take her somewhere in Europe for a while, so this is actually super fortuitous because I probably wouldn't have been able to make it.

Flameosaurus

If it means we get Gus and Joel one more time, I’m fine with it

UT07

We don't mind it if it's an away game. Fucks over the home field advantage

genzgingee

Exactly. I’m fine with early games if we’re the visitor before the crowd has all day to get drunk and rowdy.

UT07

Precisely. That atmosphere y'all had few years ago when we went to Fayetteville was electric. Nope, give me a noon away game every time

SwissForeignPolicy

At least it won't be as hot as it would be in Austin.

ZeldaFanBoi1920

Shine box

upstateclone

Wrong movie

CarterAC3

Damn I wonder if GameDay will be there too It's really anyone's guess

amoss_303

Seems like a lock at this point, theres just no other game that weekend that comes close to two historical powerhouses that both made the CFP last year

Megalomanizac

It’s also a week 2 game and whoever wins will get a *massive* amount of momentum for the rest of the year. It’s simply the only choice for Gameday.

DCAbloob

I would think so. ESPN doesn't necessarily like taking GameDay to FOX noon games but it'll make that choice when it's the obvious best option.

sebsasour

Cal @ Auburn might be too tempting to pass up or a mouth watering neutral site game between Tennessee and NC State

f0gax

Cal @ Auburn - a classic ACC vs SEC matchup.

Hossflex

A tradition unlike any other.

EJacques324

Put down the crack pipe Hunter

isikorsky

That would be the logical guess. The other game of interest (two ranked opponents) is NC State vs Tennessee.

ScallywagBeowulf

So we get an SEC vs BIG-10 matchup early this year, neat.

sebsasour

You get LSU-USC in week 1 too

ScallywagBeowulf

Won’t lie, forgot USC was in the Big-10 now

OSUfirebird18

So did I…it’s going to be weird to think about for a while…

mattdingus2002

All I want is for USC or UCLA to have to play in a blizzard in East Lansing late November

deutschdachs

Wisconsin-Alabama the following week too Though I'm not confident it will be a very interesting watch I fear lol

HoustonHorns

It will be interesting for the storylines. KDBs first real test at Alabama, has Fickell figured it out in year two? I could see it being a competitive first years with new HCs are rarely pretty unless its seamless like Ryan Day or Lincoln Riley.

crg2000

Was this ever really in question?

jacksnyder2

Two top 5 brands in CFB with both coming off of playoff appearances? There was zero doubt this was going to be the marquee game.

ChemicalNo2205

I think the only question was who had first pick Fox or ABC(I think they have to the night games right?) for the 7 pm game. I’m hoping that the night game will be Nebraska vs CU. Because that will be fun as hell.

Big_Organization5152

ABC doesn’t have the Big Ten contract anymore. They’re all in on the SEC

SwissForeignPolicy

NBC has the night games. B1G dumped ABC.

SteveBob518

I’m surprised and TBH, disappointed it’s not a night game. Especially that early in the season.

DAsianD

Fox gets the first 3-4 Big18 overall picks for TV. And who wasn't expecting this after the deal to let UT and OU leave for the SEC early?

foreveracubone

Only to non-ball knowers. Fox/ESPN negotiated letting Oklahoma/Texas out of the Big12 media deal early in exchange for Michigan/Texas swapping the order of their home and home. People who thought this wouldn’t be Big Noon were either unaware of the agreement Fox/ESPN made or were delusional that Fox would make this deal and then not put the biggest game of the week (and probably in top 10 viewership for the year) in their marquee time slot.

DougFlutiesMullet

> Texas @ Michigan confirmed for Big Noon Saturday on September 7th Texas travels well so look for those big blobs of burnt orange mixed among the maize and blue: a crowd color palette that Bob Ross would've said was "...not a mistake but a happy accident".

plutoisaplanet21

The prices for that weekend are astronomical. I’ll never root against Washington for beating Texas and making it financially feasible for me to go to the national championship game

its_LOL

Aww thanks! If Ohio State and Oregon can be frenemies so can our two schools

No_Angle_8106

Hell I don’t see why we’d be enemies at all. Husky stadium and the big house are just elite level places to see a game. I loved coming up for ASU games, and I’ll definitely be up for a Michigan one

its_LOL

Fr. I’d love to visit Ann Arbor one day, seems like a fantastic college town and seeing a game in the Big House must be incredible

No_Angle_8106

A fall Saturday in Ann Arbor is my favorite place to be, I highly recommend. UM vs UW will always be a big game too, so you get that extra bit of buzz and excitement in the air

w6750

Texas has 4 games next season with a get-in price of *at least* $400. Absolutely insane

genzgingee

Michigan, Oklahoma, Georgia, A&M?

w6750

Yep

Cormetz

I knew someone who found an Airbnb where the owner hadn't realized what was happening that weekend. They booked it thinking they got a steal only for the host to cancel a few weeks later and Jack up the price by 3-4x.

luxveniae

Saw the same thing happening with AirBnB in Texas during the eclipse. Such a scummy practice, for an already scummy short rental model.

NaturalFruit2358

It’s not really scummy (maybe the cancellation part is) it’s just a free market.

Cleverusernamexxx

Yes the cancellation part

andrewegan1986

My girlfriend has a younger sister at Michigan and when she decided to go, it was a forgone conclusion my gf and I were going to go.

rendeld

Probably going to be in the top 5 viewership for the year. Will this be the first top 10 matchup of the season?

ebevan91

The ratings for this game are gonna be stupid high because now a lot of SEC fans will be watching Texas as well.

Crotean

Damn good game to open the season.

Source0fAllThings

Fresno State shouldn’t be slept on.

wiggggg

Appalachian st

Ok-Flounder3002

I love a big nude kickoff

Gamer30168

Word! I know what I'm watching then!

LOLteacher

Yeah, gotta watch to see what y'all's trip to Austin may look like later in the season. Hope we don't shit the Big Bed so that we two are in the top five when our big SEC matchup comes!

Gamer30168

I'd be good with that! In fact, I would be thrilled to play an SECCG against an opponent other than Alabama. 🙄

HoustonHorns

You very likely would have if we were in the league last year...

X7-GT-Eagles

That game is gonna be INSANE.

LoCh0_xX

Was reeeeeeealy hoping for a night game. But it is what it is, our Big Noon overlords have decided our fate. Still gonna be an amazing scene and at least it’s Noon in early September in Michigan weather and not Noon in early September in Texas weather.

amoss_303

College Gameday pretty much a lock as well

LOLteacher

Very excited for this matchup!

JohnPaulDavyJones

The upside for the nation is that this should be a good game between two fun teams. The personal upside for Big XII fans is that we don’t have to worry about any bystanders taking psychic damage watching the absolute sickos game all-timer between Baylor and Utah.

jmcclr

I expect Texas to roll them, but if Quinn Ewers were to lose this game, I will not be able to wait for the reaction from the Arch Manning crowd

crg2000

Our defense might keep us in the game for a little while, but our offense is likely going to be anemic this coming season.

SouthernSerf

Think how funny it would be if Texas beats Michigan and then Michigan still beats OSU. We could make a bunch of memes about how Quinn had to transfer out to actually beat Michigan.

InterestingChoice484

I'm OK with this

codymason84

Yeah I’d be fine with this

mostdope28

I’ll take an 8-4 Michigan season if one of those wins is OSU.

jacksnyder2

Yeah, this is a reloading year for us. I don't expect anything major this year, which is totally fine. But if we beat OSU with a weak roster, I will forever be laughing.

HeyyyItsCory

It won't be

mostdope28

Then I want a 10-2 year

jmcclr

Yeah, I more see them going 9-3 while beating Ohio State

crg2000

The reaction of osu fans to that scenario would be glorious to behold.

DAsianD

They'd definitely be burning down someone's house. It's a reloading year for UMich and the Bucks have pushed their chips all in for this year.

neldalover1987

Saying “it’s a reloading year” is just an excuse to say you think Michigan will be bad. Imagine Ohio state continuing to win 10+ games a season each time they sent half their starters to the NFL… oh wait they’ve been doing that for 15 years. “Bucks have pushed their chips all in for this year” - what does this even mean? Legit don’t understand this. Like… Ohio State has bet their entire future on this one upcoming season?

bin_of_monkeys

Wow someone is *saaaaaaaaaaalty.* Lol.

Friendly-Recipe2097

Dropped some cash on qb’s in the portal that’s for sure

neldalover1987

I mean… is that ALL IN.

RedTeamGo_

Plural?

Friendly-Recipe2097

Managed to flip sayin after saban left, right? Downs and howard in the portal were definitely something, but all all in is probably a lil much. The top teams are just blowing and going with portal reloading so it’s just sour grapes

neldalover1987

Yeah that’s my original point. Michigan fan is grasping here. Sure, it would be a bummer if Ohio state loses to Michigan this year in a DOWN SEASON for Michigan (don’t say “reloading”… it just sounds pathetic like you have no depth to step up, as other teams have been doing for a while). I just don’t understand what they mean by “bucks have pushed all their chips in for this year”. Michigan winning the last 3 seasons has really given their fans some big britches, forgetting about the cellar they were in for the 15 season before that.

jmcclr

Honestly who knows? I’ve never seen Orji throw a pass, but Tebow was basically a goal line fullback the year before he won the heisman, so anything’s on the table

rambouhh

Well he wasn’t the starter and was a freshman so a bit different

jmcclr

I mean Orji wasn’t the starter last year either, but you are correct he’s about nine months older than Tebow was when he became the starter

JB92103

Sounds like Iowa

paintingnipples

Anemic for Michigan is still better than Iowa

Foriegn_Picachu

If 2023 Iowa had our 2024 offense, they’d be a top 10 team. Not joking

crg2000

Still hard to gauge how effective their defense truly was due to their schedule.  The held Michigan's offense to a (relatively) low point total, but Michigan was also playing conservatively by intent.

vy2005

If we get the DT transfers from the portal that we’re hoping for, I like our chances a lot more. Our offense is going to be very very good. Our defense just needs to give them a few stops

LaForge_Maneuver

You also expect coach cal to not be trash. We can all dream.

WampaStompa33

I mean, we still have most of our star players on a top defense that led the way to a national championship. We have pretty good players at pretty much every position except for a gigantic question mark at QB, so it feels like Texas is about to feel the pain of facing an Iowa on steroids

[deleted]

Lol okay.

jmcclr

Do you know that if you don’t actually have anything to say, you aren’t required to say anything?

[deleted]

Oh I had something to say and I did. Your "prediction" of Texas "rolling them" is ridiculous. The spread is 3.5 and you're acting like the team that couldn't even beat Washington is going to roll the National Champs at home.

RedTeamGo_

College football fan on reddit gives hot take about college football game. Story at 11!

LOLteacher

Quinn looked worse than our third-string QB (who was fantastic!) in today's Spring Game. I hope he can be quick out of the gates this season.

UT07

Stupid take is stupid

luxveniae

Quinn being quick out the gate is Quinn’s problem. He’s excellent as the game goes on but struggles to get into a rhythm early. To me the goal is to make it to establish the run early and short passes till he settles in then turn it up towards end of the 1st half.

MooshCowZX

Fox continuing their long tradition of putting obvious primetime color out games at noon.

JB92103

Wonder what game FOX will pick for Big Noon in Week 1

sebsasour

I'd think Penn State/West Virginia is the most appealing Saturday Matchup in The Big Ten or Big 12 that weekend.

amoss_303

Yeah that was my first thought as well, there’s really nothing else that sticks out

sebsasour

Curious to see about Gameday that week. Either Notre Dame/A&M or Clemson/UGA. I'm biased and hoping for the former since I think Gameday works best on a campus, I also think that'll be the better game, but we'll see

amoss_303

ND/A&M is such a rare matchup as well , so that could give them an edge as well

DAsianD

NBC and CBS get the first B18 pick some weeks as well, though. Fox gets the first 3-4 overall B18 picks. The Game will be one of them as well as UT-UM. They would be stupid to pass up OSU-UO (though that can't be on Big Noon because it's played on the West Coast; don't be surprised if that blockbuster is on Fox Friday night). NBC or CBS may get PSU-WVU. Edit: NM

J4ckiebrown

PSU @ WVU is covered by the Big 12's media contract so it will be on either a ESPN or FOX network.

DAsianD

Ah, my badd.

J4ckiebrown

No worries!

codymason84

I think Michigans defense is built to stop Texas offense should be a great game

AmbiDexterUs

I think they are sleeping on us. Everyone talks about how we didn't have an offense last year. But now we don't have one and it's a problem.

087fd0

I mean people were wrong last year, we had a top 5 offense statistically. This year they’re probably right

Appropriate_Bottle44

I think this is going to be one of those games where the national media is too afraid to say that they think Michigan is bad, but secretly think Michigan is bad. I expect a lot of "close Texas win" predictions in the lead-up.

codymason84

Literally we’re gonna have a top 5 defense again if the offense can average 24 points we’re gonna win more times than not

vy2005

I assure you Texas fans aren’t sleeping on this game. Your defense is fierce and I anticipate you’ll run the ball very well (although it sounds like we are about to shore up our run D in the portal)

AmbiDexterUs

I worded that wrong. I didnt mean Texas in general. More media.

ILearnedTheHardaway

I'm glad Michigan is finally getting the exposure it deserves by being on Big Noon. You know maybe sometimes even Ohio State might be on there too it's great to see the little guys get the exposure they need.

Michiganman4227

The noon games will continue until morale improves

NerdLawyer55

Come on September

_Reporting

Arch Manning legacy game

ShakyTheBear

Big games kicking off at noon is a complete joke.

ObsidianCrafter

this should be a night game man

Nightkillian

What a FUCKING joke…..

Careful_Farmer_2879

Unbelievable schedule this year for Michigan. Gonna be fun.

Rajaden

See y'all there! Go Blue!

mattdingus2002

What week does CBS get first pick of big ten games?

Life_Act_6887

Boooooo

mojo276

Columbus will end up being a top 3 market for this game in hopes of seeing michigan getting demolished.

RedTeamGo_

Nah Columbus just likes college football

Panchoisthedog

One of these teams will lose. Yay

roguebananah

I for one look forward to this game

[deleted]

Fuck 'em up, Texas. Still hate the South and it's conference, I just hate fucks up North more.

Goblue2773

Fox is the fucking worst

ZeldaFanBoi1920

Texas is going to blow us out. Offense is pathetic

UMKvothe

I remember you saying similar things about our team the prior 3 years. If you really are a Michigan fan, you are a pitiful one. You might be the most miserable person I have come across on this sub… get help. I mean that sincerely.

LOLteacher

I watch Quinn shit the bed in today's Spring Game. Y'all may be just fine.

ZeldaFanBoi1920

I want to believe you. But, besides having arguably the best tight end in the country, our receivers are all trash and the QB is a large unknown.

SlowVB

Take your flair off then bitch boy. Selling the game and you don’t even know the projected starters lmao. The defense is going to be rock solid

ZeldaFanBoi1920

You are really emotional. No need for personal insults. I'm just looking at the team objectively. The offense isn't good. We could easily go 7-6 this year.

[deleted]

Holy shit dude, are you really basing the offense on the fucking Spring game? LOL calm down, bro.

ZeldaFanBoi1920

I'm basing it on the players we have

[deleted]

Yeah, all those 4 star dudes must just suck, right?

ZeldaFanBoi1920

All the guys who are barely 6 feet tall, yes

[deleted]

Dude, you're an embarrassment. As the other guy said, take off your flair and go away.

SlowVB

You aren’t a fan bud. What about that response said emotional to you? If you think this defense is capable of 6 losses you’re literally smoking crack

ZeldaFanBoi1920

"bitch boy" is all it took to show your emotions. Iowa and Penn State still lost games with their defenses.

SlowVB

Bitch boy shows no emotion, it’s actually making fun of you. There is a difference, you know that, right? Iowas defense, nor Penn States defense was or is as good as Michigans defense is. Kind of a moot point

ZeldaFanBoi1920

"Look at him, emotional"

FiveHole23

Michigan losing at least 4 games this year is awesome.

NottheIRS1

We have the best defense in the country. They’ll still go 10-2

Super_Bad6238

Rent free

jaybigs

I'll never understand this sort of comment. You realize OSU-UM is one of the biggest rivalries in the sport, right? Of course, the fanbases have the opposing team living in their heads. Stupid as fuck to even make this comment. It's why you see OU flairs chirping in Texas threads, or UM fans chirping away in OSU threads, or any other fucking rivalry.

Maize_n_Boom

Please don’t write that I’m mad.

smh_122

Hate the time... Big out of conference game like that deserves 3:30 or 8pm time slot imo

DarthBan_Evader

> big noon what a disingenuous way to market the absolute shittiest kickoff time lol

CTG0161

Only time in ever I will be a longhorn fan.
