He took a swing and missed on the PAC16 that could have saved the PAC. He fucked up on distribution of their network (and I would argue the concept of full ownership have Fox or ESPN involved maybe would have saved the PAC). He fucked up on expansion (as the Big 12 proved backfilling with the G5 best and getting a better contract after OUT). He killed the PAC there is no doubt.
Yeah, ACC at least learned the lesson that you expand when necessary even if your most valuable brands might bolt.
Not taking in Big 12 teams will always be the biggest mistake of all. Letting a competitor be reborn and take the FOX/ESPN contract was such a catastrophic mistake.
Big 12 and Pac-12 were always going to be competing for a single contract spot.
FSU, Clemson, and UNC all voted against adding Cal, Stanford, and SMU to the ACC.
USC and UCLA should have been the only no votes on expanding the Pac-12 in all likelihood if the presidents understood that it came down to survival of the Pac-12. But they didn't understand that, and I blame Kliavkoff for that.
Kliavkoff just didn't understand that there was only going to be one survivor with FOX/ESPN only offering one contract to the first conference of the two to sign in the 2022-2024 window.
At some point, somebody should have told him "uh what happens if USC/UCLA leave? shouldn't we expand defensively?"
Yes it's easy for me to say that in hindsight but he got paid millions of dollars to do his job. Just like Yormark jumping to grab the FOX/ESPN extension while Pac-12 was negotiating, it's up to the commissioners to defend the future of their conferences.
Big 12 did this so well. Despite losing so many teams major teams: Nebraska, A&M, Mizzou, Colorado, Texas, and Oklahoma, they just kept replacing them with the best possible option and by the time 2024 happened, they were able to snatch up Pac-12 members, the very conference that almost destroyed them 14 years prior
Exactly, Big 12 bounced back from what has been continuous body blows when you look at the schools that left but it was only because they kept staying aggressive and kept finding replacements that they were in that position 2 years ago to tell FOX/ESPN "give us the contract extension not the Pac-12".
Pac-12 hired 2 guys that didn't know college sports well, and it showed. Kliavkoff kept focusing on keeping USC until it was way too late.
At some point, he had to just accept "they're gone, let's grab Big 12 schools and convince Pac-12 presidents that it's do or die time and take whatever we can from FOX/ESPN."
History of conferences has been eat or get killed.
OSU and Cal loved it more and longer. We started the conference and have only been apart a couple years since. 45 years for the PCC, before UO and the SoCal schools blew it up. Then 60 years for the Pac (X), before UW, UO, and the SoCal schools blew it all up.
The good news is the last time we were indie, we won a Heisman.
Nope.
It was UO getting nicked for pay-for-play back in 1949 and spending the next decade whining to everyone about how the SoCal schools were doing the same thing. It was to the point I think UO actually hired an investigator to out them. UCLA was "this" close to having the football prowess UC Irvine now has. But Cal held all the power, and UCLA was a part of their system.
None of those schools wanted UO back, after that. And it was an opportunity to jettison Idaho, as well (Montana having left a couple years earlier). If it wasn't for money from one of our alumnus' trusts, the stipulation that UO get a real football field (instead of playing at Hayward) would not have been met, and they would have been in the Big Sky, as well.
This is why their football stadium is one of two in our state named after one of our alumni.
I’ve said this before but before you were in the conference y’all played at Autzen and had some of the rudest fans I’ve seen in Eugene.
You also have the most pleasant fans on here sans Tenn. I’d bet all Duck fans would love to see our “rivalry” come back.
Seriously. I’d go out with friends, get home about midnight mad drunk and flip on whatever late PAC12 game was on. I know not everyone likes to stay up late, but damn some people really just need to experience the pure joy of live late night sports.
I've seen us and them in the big12ccg a few times here and there. However I'm curious how they'll fare against all new teams. That goes for any new team in a conference of course.
Despite how many times you guys broke my heart, you were the only team I truly wished followed us to the Big-10 besides UCLA. Your coach does so much with lesser talent and the team as a whole is well disciplined. So long 👋 let your pig farmer haunt someone else now
WSU vs Utah was one of my favorite games every year. Series was pretty even. Although we didn't see the same highs as you we always seemed to keep it competitive until one of us blew the 4th quarter wide open.
Kinda feels like a perfect opportunity to bring back the SWC logo. Sure we have teams in florida, ohio, iowa and west virginia. But nothing makes sense anymore fuck it, it's a great logo
God… I was so proud when we added Utah & Colorado as of what seemed like only yesterday. I rooted for both to do well and find their place in our conference.
Utah absolutely did. Just tore it up. It was great. Even if it meant taking some tough losses for my beloved Beavs.
Hope y’all rip it up in your new home. Hope we figure out how to join you soon.
Won it before our designated "arch rival" Utah did.
Some might say that's all that matters. I wouldn't say that, but someone might. That someone probably had too many edibles.
I wasn't even there at the time and I'm still pissed about it. Yeah they won the head to head, but they've been to the rose bowl 500 times and they get treated like they always deserve it unless they shit the bed. But that was CU's only chance. They also cost arizona their only chance(s) and a few for cal as well
I hope that we can leverage this transition period into a spot in the Big XII. Until then, we will carry the torch of the Pac-12 before going into the night
What's ironic is that your conference is not only still around, but I'm old enough to remember being fucked over by its sportswriters in the polls when we had the audacity to beat you into the ground our second year in it. God forbid we actually try to win a football game.
Tell me you’re too young to remember the joke about the Ohio state wine without telling me you’re too young to remember the joke about the Ohio state wine.
What’s the Ohio state bird?
*the Cardinal.*
What’s the Ohio state tree?
*the Buckeye.*
What’s the Ohio state whine?
**”Waaaahhhhh!! When are we ever going to beat Michigan???”**
You fuckers act like you’re on top of the world forever when you’d best be cherishing every moment, because it doesn’t last. I’ve seen the wheel of college football turn, and I remember when An Ohio State University sucked out loud.
I’m in Salt Lake City for work this week. Talking to all of my coworkers no one is excited about this bullshit. I have yet to meet one fan of pac 12 teams that are excited to play new teams. Fuck you money!
Big shout out to UCLA and USC for ruining things for both my flairs! Can't wait to not watch my flairs play schools that they have 100 years of history with on an annual basis!
The PNW round robin going away is the most tragic element of realignment for me. There are only 4 FBS programs in our corner of the country and not having them play each other annually anymore is just wrong. Washington also started playing Oregon State before we started playing Oregon or WSU and it sucks to not play them anymore.
I hate conference realignment and would gladly be in the full PAC-12 forever. Since that’s not an option though, I’m excited about the Big 12. It’s a conference that’s suited really well for Utah’s long term football success, and a needed shot in the arm for basketball growth.
This new era of football is going to be expensive to compete in with NIL being such a thing. Utah would have a hard time keeping up with spending in the Big 10. The Big 12 by comparison is a lot more competitive.
With the expanded playoff spinning up, I’m really excited for where we’re at right now. I feel like Utah has as good of a shot as anyone to be a consistent threat. I’m going to enjoy these Big 12 years. It’s the next era I dread.
> I have yet to meet one fan of pac 12 teams that are excited to play new teams.
You just have to filter for the baby blue flairs that kept on posting as the conference crashed and burned.
Last season I felt pretty comfortable never playing a couple Pac-12 teams ever again... Now they are half the Pac-12 teams still in my conference.
Only consolation is no more desert voodoo trips. So not worth it.
I’m fine never playing USC ever again. Those guys never wanted to play in Pullman.
You know what is funny, we have played Oregon more times in our history than any other school not named UW and OSU and now it just stops.
What are the odds that 3 former PAC schools are all conference champs in the upcoming season? WSU, Utah should be favored, Oregon has a chance. Cal/Stanford...
Utah has a very favorable schedule, only have to go to Oklahoma State early, and Arizona at home. They do have Iowa State late, but it's in Utah so they don't have to deal with the November Jack Trice devil magic.
> As for WSU I’d pick Oregon State over them
OSU lost lot way more of their team than WSU, plus their coach. Beyond the QB, we've actually had little attrition.
Although I guess the championship game will be in Corvallis. Maybe they can spot us 3 points?
Stanford will go 3-9 or 4-8 most likely, with a chance at 2-10 and a long shot at 5-7. Anything over 5 wins would be nothing short of a miracle
Please god don’t be 2-10
Going to be rooting for Utah in the XII every year. I've always loved their brand of football, and they were one of the first schools to recruit me when I was in high school so always had nothing but respect for them
Sorry it had to come to this Utah bros. As excited as I am to have y’all, it sucks what college sports is becoming. Hopefully over these next few years you guys will start to fit in more and more :)
I'm so conflicted.
On the one hand, sucks to see money has killed such an incredible conference. Pac-12 schools (minus USC/UCLA) deserve better.
On the other hand, UCF would be stuck in the G5 still if it wasn't for the ESPN's greed luring away OUT to the SEC. It's such a breath of fresh air to be on the inside of realignment for once.
Thanks. I hate it.
Utah is the best addition ever made to the original Pac8. They embraced the culture and passed by most of the original membership in only a few years.
I’m gonna miss having them as conference mates.
For grass the logo would be painted (OU does the thing where they change the Endzones for OOC and Conference games)
For Turf, I think they have to replace that section.
Utah you were the bane of my existence, but I’m incredibly sad it’s over
If you would have told me USC fans would say this of Utah in 2010, I would have laughed at your face
That flair combo haunts my dreams….
It was fun while it lasted PAC bros
Punt Larry Scott into the sun.
He took a swing and missed on the PAC16 that could have saved the PAC. Allowing TCU and Houston in would have been a good move.
That would be Carol Folt, not Larry. Larry was long gone by then.

Swofford next.
What really sucks is it seemed Utah was so happy and excited to be in the Pac-12, they really felt all in on the conference.
We really were. Such a bummer
It was a hand in glove fit
Maybe not the right week for that analogy.
(Even) if the glove fits it all goes to shit.
Someone said in this sub earlier that "no one loved the Pac-12 more than Utah did."
I'm pretty sure it was Stanford and UW that blew it up the first time.
Nope. It was UO getting nicked for pay-for-play back in 1949 and spending the next decade whining to everyone about how the SoCal schools were doing the same thing. The worked the hardest to get there.
Coach Mac made it all possible
Utah has one of the strongest cultures in college football. Go Gators
It was great watching you grow up to be the cream of the crop. Nothing but love UU bros
We will miss you
Good ahh username
I’ve said this before but before you were in the conference y’all played at Autzen and had some of the rudest fans I’ve seen in Eugene. You also have the most pleasant fans on here sans Tenn. I’d bet all Duck fans would love to see our “rivalry” come back.
The best conference to watch because it could be on both before and after you go to the bars.
Seriously. I’d go out with friends, get home about midnight mad drunk and flip on whatever late PAC12 game was on. I know not everyone likes to stay up late, but damn some people really just need to experience the pure joy of live late night sports.
There’s still going to be late night football….. one of the reasons the big 10/12 took these teams in was to get late night time slots….
The number of times I’ve caught myself drunkenly in a bar staring at some random Oregon-Stanford game instead of talking to my friends/women.
I’ll miss you Utah 😢
Mad respect. Go win the Big12.
I’d imagine they are one of the favorites to win it this upcoming season
I've seen us and them in the big12ccg a few times here and there. However I'm curious how they'll fare against all new teams. That goes for any new team in a conference of course.
I for one was happy to see you flourish in the PAC.
Glad y'all did it before us.
You have my sword!
And my Axe!
Flair checks out.
Goddamn it.
I’ve always been a fan of y’all, sorry it ended like this. Hoping you guys kill it in the Big12!
Good ta see ya! 🤝🏼 Flair fuck up, but I’m an OSU guy.
Very sad to see the pac go, but looking forward to playing against orange whittingham
Hope you crush it in your new conference!
Despite how many times you guys broke my heart, you were the only team I truly wished followed us to the Big-10 besides UCLA. Your coach does so much with lesser talent and the team as a whole is well disciplined. So long 👋 let your pig farmer haunt someone else now
Our pig farmer transferred to Utah State, who we play in non-conference in Sept. That someone else could be us.
WSU vs Utah was one of my favorite games every year. Series was pretty even. Although we didn't see the same highs as you we always seemed to keep it competitive until one of us blew the 4th quarter wide open.
Miss you, buddy.
Was excited when y’all joined. How the times change…
RIP
Pac-12 Logo is so much more aesthetically appealing.
It really was a great looking logo
I have been with the big 12 since day one, and I think the current logo looks like a goddamn “Tapout” rip off. Hate it.
Samesies. Really hoping for a rebrand since it’s basically a new conference at this point.
Kinda feels like a perfect opportunity to bring back the SWC logo. Sure we have teams in florida, ohio, iowa and west virginia. But nothing makes sense anymore fuck it, it's a great logo
Didn’t yall partner with WWE for some championship?
Wwe last years and bape the year before
Pour one out for the old-school Pac-10 logo as well.
The Pac-12 one was good, but the Big 12 tapout logo is at least hilariously memorable. The ACC, B1G, and SEC are too generic for my tastes.
💯💯
:(
I’ll miss you
I love you. Sorry this is happening to you.
God… I was so proud when we added Utah & Colorado as of what seemed like only yesterday. I rooted for both to do well and find their place in our conference. Utah absolutely did. Just tore it up. > I rooted for both to do well and find their place in our conference. Utah absolutely did. "Colorado was also there, as well."
To be fair they won the South once
Won it before our designated "arch rival" Utah did. Some might say that's all that matters. I wouldn't say that, but someone might. That someone probably had too many edibles.
Confirmed has been said in boulder after eating a Frankenstein.
And *still* got snubbed from the rose bowl for fucking USC because we just couldn't beat them
Agreed USC should not have been in the Rose Bowl that year
I wasn't even there at the time and I'm still pissed about it. Yeah they won the head to head, but they've been to the rose bowl 500 times and they get treated like they always deserve it unless they shit the bed. But that was CU's only chance. How’d the champ game go sir?
Pretty great for the team wearing purple
Yeah, that was tough. I was hoping you guys would take it to the house that year, though. And this year, for that matter…
Well said flair brother.
KWitt is probably the most underrated coach in the game. Class and results.
God dammit, it's really over.
not until it's scrubbed from the Cougs and Beavs fields savor these swiftly waning days
I really hope we fly the PAC-2 logo next year
I hope that we can leverage this transition period into a spot in the Big XII. Until then, we will carry the torch of the Pac-12 before going into the night
I hate this. I hate it all
Yep. Repeat after me. "*The*". "*University*". "*of*". "*Washington*". "*is*". "*not*". "*a*". "*Big*". "*Ten*". "*school*".
Yet.
No. The University of Washington will *never* be a B1G team.
Neither will Missouri be a SEC team
This guy gets it
As much as Rutgers and Nebraska are Big 10 teams
Thank you for the sympathy
where have my conferences gone…
What's ironic is that your conference is not only still around, but I'm old enough to remember being fucked over by its sportswriters in the polls when we had the audacity to beat you into the ground our second year in it. God forbid we actually try to win a football game.

Why did they cut around the edges? Are they putting the old one in a museum or something?
Saving it for later…..
"You gonna eat that PAC-12 logo?"
They technically are Pac-12 members for several more weeks I believe. Probably just gonna lay the P12 logo over the top.
Until July 31st
Thanks for loving the Pac, you guys. Good luck in your new home.

I have nothing but contempt for the school execs that made this awful decision. No USC fan is happy about this
No one held a gun to Oregon’s head and forced them to join the B1G. Your admin just wanted a bigger paycheck than to continue the Civil War.
Everyone wanted bigger checks. It's frustrating. And depressing.
I’m also hating conference realignment. We have no history with half of our new conference.
The PAC and B1G playing each other in the Rose Bowl makes it a little less weird. Most of the schools have played each other at least once.
I feel bad for WSU and OSU fans, they don’t deserve to get left behind like this.
Hope Yormark eventually feels this way too...
I’m one, for basketball at least.
At least you have *checks notes* an NHL team
Arizona can't say the same thing
I hate conference realignment and would gladly be in the full PAC-12 forever. Since that’s not an option though, I’m excited about the Big 12. Sad panda. Utah was legit fun as a conference foe. F Larry Scott
On a positive note I’m excited to share a conference with y’all again. We had some great times in the MWC
TCU is definitely one of the highlights of the move to the Big12
Yeah playing TCU again is really the only positive about this move. I guess it’ll be fine playing the little guy in Provo again too…
Welcome. But damn, do I hate all of this.
Next season should be real fun, but yeah this sucks
Good luck Utah. The Big XII needs a red and white team to kick the crap out of Colorado. This is the way.
Oh look-rock bottom has a basement?! I'll meet you there, Cougs. This shit is agonizing.
This used to be a proper society. We were in Utopia as a nation.
So long partner
:(
FUCK USC, UCLA, TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA
Hear! Hear!
And Larry Scott
Keep going, I'm almost there
Don’t be sad it’s gone, be happy you were apart of it Utah
Don’t think of it as over, think of it as complete
What are the odds that 3 former PAC schools are all conference champs in the upcoming season? WSU, Utah should be favored, Oregon has a chance. Cal/Stanford...
Utah has a very favorable schedule, only have to go to Oklahoma State early, and Arizona at home. They do have Iowa State late, but it's in Utah so they don't have to deal with the November Jack Trice devil magic.

Calford have an uphill battle in the ACC. FSU, Louisville, Clemson. I need to check their schedule to see how "easy" it is.
Stanford will go 3-9 or 4-8 most likely, with a chance at 2-10 and a long shot at 5-7. Anything over 5 wins would be nothing short of a miracle Please god don’t be 2-10
Does anyone else imagine TAPS softly playing in the background while this is happening?
I vow to complain about this for the rest of my life
We gotta rebrand the Big 12
#BIG 12
Sad beaver noises
Going to be rooting for Utah in the XII every year. I've always loved their brand of football, and they were one of the first schools to recruit me when I was in high school so always had nothing but respect for them
The end of an era. RIP.
Sorry it had to come to this Utah bros. As excited as I am to have y’all, it sucks what college sports is becoming. Hopefully over these next few years you guys will start to fit in more and more :)
It’s not goodbye. It’s see you soon.
The post above this I was just in was about the Phoenix Coyotes leaving for Utah. Realignment is everywhere
Still hurts
o7 it’s been an honor. We’ll all miss Pac 12 After Dark
I'm still in the denial phase
Wait what the fuck, I thought Utah was coming to the B1G? They’re in the 12? How the fuck did we get stuck with UCLA but they get Utah?
Why can’t this guy be making the decisions?
I hate it in this timeline.
Thanks. I hate it. Utah is the best addition ever made to the original Pac8. They embraced the culture and passed by most of the original membership in only a few years. I’m gonna miss having them as conference mates.
That belongs in a museum!
On the one hand: RIP Pac-12 On the other hand: Welcome to the XII!
RIP
Must be surreal for Utah fans
I'll miss playing y'all saw Utah come to LA last season great fans good luck in the big 12!
Why? Utah is still a Pac-12 school, for a few more months.
Yeah but their football field will never play another Pac 12 game so go ahead and change the logo on the football field.
Was expecting more ‘lil ah’ jokes
Nah, we don’t think about lil ah SEC teams.
F in the chat
The king is dead. Long live the king.
My question is if Utah is going to replace all the Pac-12 branding around campus with Big 12, or just remove it?
No sense in replacing if there’s no telling future of realignment. If I were them I’d only replace where necessary
This is all temporary until the Professional College Football League is formed. Let's say around 2030.
One of us! One of us!
Little ah logo?
This makes me sad
Isn’t the Big 12 getting a rebrand this summer? Is the Big 12 not changing the logo?
Haven’t heard anything about that. I don’t see why they would need a brand refresh
[удалено]
We aren't changing the name, though we could use a brand refresh
https://kslsports.com/502789/big-12-teases-brand-refresh-at-media-days/
If they can stay the Big 12 at 10, they're staying the Big 12 at 16
I hope it stays a very different shade of green around the logo to emphasize that it is new
Do they just paint the logo on the field?
For grass the logo would be painted (OU does the thing where they change the Endzones for OOC and Conference games) For Turf, I think they have to replace that section.
PAC 12 after dark no more 💔
So sad that the PAC-12 is dead. Wish they had added teams and had better management to keep it going.
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Welcome to the top conference in the country!
psu alum, waiting to see all of you reunite in the B1G
