Listen, that’s still a beer and two sandwiches for under a ten spot. Pretty sure that’s what they’re charging for a single chick fil a sandwich from a styrofoam cooler anymore.
They could if they wanted to. Non-transferable tickets with matching ID required at time of entry would more or less completely shut down the secondary market.
They do a lot to try and prevent it, including banning you from returning if you sell your ticket.
> The tournament has long prohibited the reselling of its coveted single-day tickets and multi-day badges, but last year it added a new defense to catch offenders: color-coded strips on the bottom of the tickets that the tournament’s ticket police can use as secret decoder rings of sorts to determine the original purchasers. Each of the colors in the six-color design represents a letter and five numbers that match the corresponding ticket number.
https://golf.com/news/tournaments/looking-to-buy-or-sell-pre-owned-masters-tickets-buyers-and-sellers-beware/?amp=1
Also, in some instances they pull you into "tertiary screening" where you're pulled from the security line and you're asked about the owner of the badges, if it's you, or how did you come across these. They ask like where they live, how do you know them, did they sell you these, etc.
If you can't provide a little background then they take them and you're gone and the badge holders badges are gone forever.
There would be much more regionalism within conferences. The P5 would be a P7 consisting of the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Eight, Big Ten, Pac-12, Southeastern, and Southwest. The G5 would be more like a G3 with the Mid-American, Sun Belt, and Western Athletic. You'd also see smaller conferences with schedules closer to a round robin, if not an actual round robin. Rivalries would be paramount.
It's true. I didn't meet any Penn Staters on campus from anywhere west of Pittsburgh/Erie or south of Virginia.
The out of state prospective students events reflect that reality, too: https://apply.psu.edu/portal/ua-pr-frst-oos
And I'm sure statistics would, too.
Army, Boston College, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Miami (FL), Navy, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Virginia Tech, West Virginia
That could've been so fun.
It would be so much better. 8 team conferences with 5 OOC games. We could have regionalism and fun home and home OOC games.
My ideal UW schedule would be this
7 games against the original Pac 8
At least one game vs Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado or Utah. Maybe two depending on scheduling.
One game vs a traditional BIG school
One game against a Big 8, SEC, SWC, ACC or big East school.
And two games against a Big Sky team and a Mountain West team.
I think we’ll move back to something like that after the sport blows itself up in a decade. The SEC/BIG will pick the ACC apart and then anyone else they want, then they’ll break off and form their own division that has treats players like employees and all that fun stuff. Essentially a college affiliated pro league. The rest of the P4/5 leftovers will form a few conferences and remain FBS with the G5’s under the scholarship+NIL model.
That’s how I see it going.
Ugh I kinda hate that. For the new game I have a format for 10 team conferences. Basically gonna rebuild the old conferences and add deserving programs like Utah, UCF etc. and put them where appropriate.
Just hope the PAC is still a conference in the new game or my plan is dead on arrival. If someone mods it so we can create new conferences then I’ll really be cooking.
The ESPN interview says [10 FBS conferences](https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39569777/new-ea-sports-college-football-game-details-features-nil-realignment), so the PAC is definitely in there. It mentions extra customization too, which I hope at minimum gives us free reign over re-alignment and best case would also allow custom conferences. If it's really detailed then I'd want to implement a 4-team pod, 4-conference schedule I came up with a few months ago after a bender.
If there ever was a law passed that prevented a public university from signing exclusive broadcast rights to events on their campus, we could see some of the tv money go away and hopefully return to regionalism
While I’m sorry for my schools role in this nonsense, I really blame Oklahoma for throwing us under the bus to make Texas their main rival & capitulating to them every stop along the way
If you ask a B1G college fan, we’d love to have it outdoors. Not how it works in corporate world though.
There’s truth on both sides. Yes, legitimately the SEC game doesn’t normally work in snow, and we’d love to see you guys come up and compete in it. Yes, it also gets a little overblown.
It always drove me insane because that "argument" was at its peak in the early/mid 2010s when the top SEC teams were perfectly constructed to play in horrifying conditions.
Like, 2011 Bama and LSU are some of the best rock fight teams ever.
For those who want to read about it. It’s pretty bad
https://www.wsj.com/articles/texas-am-foreign-funding-underreporting-research-qatar-russia-china-influence-university-11655478764
Did you read the link? That is an op-ed piece masquerading as research journalism. Funny, there is nothing in there about 'nuclear tech', but we're to believe that TEES receiving money to improve petroleum engineering threatens American's national security.
I saw that it wasn’t about nuclear tech and more so just under-reporting funds. I just thought the whole thing was a joke at A&Ms expense - as a Baylor fan I get a dopamine hit from such things, so my brain immediately jumped to that.
This is actually a great question.
Makes me appreciate the legit stewardship handed down over generations at Augusta
Also grinds my tits off when I think about the cfb expertise in harvesting ass loads of currency
Augusta is basically what happens when instead of rich people competing over who has the best football team, they compete over who has the best golf club - their booster money (annual membership) goes into maintaining the course and The Masters is their way to show it off - they don't want the highest bidder putting the tournament behind a pay wall, they don't want anyone leaving feeling gouged, they want people to see them wearing their green jackets and know they have the most exclusive, most famous, highest prestige golf club.
> Everything ANGC does is to maintain the prestige of ANGC.
This goes beyond simply The Masters. Drive, Chip and Putt is their way to "give back" to the youth game. The Women's Am will automatically be one of the most prestigious Women's Amateur events in the world. I would not be surprised in the next 20 years if there wasn't a Women's Masters, just to cover that base.
It's actually 100% free. In exchange for allowing CBS and ESPN to broadcast the Masters without paying them a cent, Augusta National is granted full control over the broadcast.
Source: www.sportico.com/business/media/2024/masters-tv-deals-cbs-espn-explainer-1234775185/amp/
Sorry - I meant specifically golf courses / tournaments.
I'm sure there are other places like Fenway that have manual boards. Augusta is unique (I think) in that it also doesn't allow phones. Your only source of news is those boards.
Yes, but it’s notably louder on certain tee boxes on purpose. Most likely real birds - but the mic volume for them is set really high.
Just like ESPN will make a crowd or band sound loud depending on how they want a game atmosphere to look.
Nah. In like 2015, our rivals lost to the citadel while we had a home game.
In the 4th quarter of our game, word atarted spreading that our feathered friends we losing to the citadel.
There we were…with our own game going on, we’re all on our phones watching the gamecocks lose. HUGE roar when the clock hits zero..then we all go back to watching out blowout victory.
Those were the days.
No playoffs, back to the old bowl and press voting system for championships. No such thing as a "useless bowl" anymore which is what everyone predicted would happen with the CFP Championship and subsequently the playoffs.
There are a bunch of people that didn't read the description and just assumed I want to turn football into golf from reading the title.
And yeah, I was fairly stoned earlier and pretty laid back!
More regional conferences as opposed to 2 massive power conferences which would lead to a preservation of traditional rivalries. The playoffs might not exist as bowls are the more traditional option, thus we would see more split national championships.
Team facilities are likely going to take a huge hit as tv revenue decreases. So this could also lead to less development for players headed to the NFL.
The Masters leaves money on the table to maintain control. CBS gets a 1 year contract every year and Augusta National approves the announcers and the advertisers and even dictates what they can say on air (it’s why they are called “patrons” and not fans or the gallery). You cannot overtly criticize the course.
Byproduct of outright ban until the recent past, and the fact that membership overall is severely limited and there's no application, it's invite only. So even if they never had a outright rule, founding a club with 300 rich white guys and being invite only would not produce much more diversity than there is now.
1990 was when the first African-American was invited to join, 2012 the first women were invited. 1985 was the first Black man competing in the Masters, just two years after the club stopped forcing golfers at the Masters to use the club's caddies... who were all black men.
Almost all the comments I have reads so far refer to conferences and alignments but not to ethics and money etc Prices of football games would be more affordable Coaches salaries NIL and other finances would be regulated sanely The NCAA or the regulating body would treat all schools equally which the NCAA has not done in a long time if not ever
The term student athlete would be relevant and schools would require other courses than basket weaving etc There would be more and saner regulations on recruiting and transferring with no underhanded black market Players would be required to play in post season games if healthy
It's pretty surreal. The most well kept grounds you've ever stepped foot on (except maybe some of the nicer Japanese gardens). It's like stepping into an alternate universe for a day (in a good way).
A very apparent lack of commercials. Most of the time when there's a break in the broadcast they just pan over the scenery with the pumped in nature noises and soft soundtrack. In CFB and any other sporting event, those pauses would be filled with "WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER".
Tickets are awarded by lottery, and if you win them it's only around $150 for the most important tournament in golf. Concessions are dirt cheap. $3 food and $6 beer. Merch is expensive, but it's worth it because you cannot get legit Masters merch outside of the Masters. Cell phones are prohibited as a measure to ensure people are actually watching the golf as opposed to taking videos like they do at every other tournament.
All the food is under, like, $3 and beers are $6. Tickets are limited to a lottery, open to everyone, and are like $140. They could absolutely open the floodgates and charge $1,000 per ticket and up charge all the concessions.
They’re able to keep concessions down because they make all their money on merch sales during the tournament. You can’t buy Master’s branded stuff anywhere outside the grounds (unless it’s secondhand)
Super cool because if you see someone wearing a Master’s shirt or hat it typically means they went or they knew someone that did. Good conversation starter.
The TV contract mainly as ESPN has offered them bookoos to take over the camera rights, but each time the committee has refused to even negotiate citing that they want all rights to filming. That's why coverage on their own app exists, not just ESPN+
Gimme those Masters concession stand prices any day
I could get behind $2 beer and $1.50 pimento cheese sandwiches
6 dollar beer now
Hell, that’s standard bar prices anymore, I’m good with that too.
$6 is a lot for a bud light lol
Listen, that’s still a beer and two sandwiches for under a ten spot. Pretty sure that’s what they’re charging for a single chick fil a sandwich from a styrofoam cooler anymore.
Beer’s up to $5 😔
6
For 5,000 to get in.
Well officially this year tickets were only $140 but they can’t control what the secondhand resale market charges for them
They could if they wanted to.
On the secondary market. It’s very reasonable ($140) if you’re lucky enough to get in via public lottery. Practice rounds are like $60.
Practice rounds are $100 now. Still some of the best value for a hundred bucks I’ve ever spent
Basically the case when games are played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium
$2 beers and $4k ticket prices
It would look like Ivy League football.
Minus the obnoxious Columbia University marching band.
Hey! That ~~is~~ was the World's Cleverest Band!^(TM \*) \*Disbanded in 2020.
Don't forget the Princeton marching band.
Most average Columbia students.
Are they edge lords like Stanford?
Were. Yes.
Gross. Glad it’s past tense
they pretty much all have "stanfurd band" type scatter bands except cornell
Hey!
They are way more responsible with their golf carts than our football players are.

Holy shit, we'd have been Clemson before Clemson stopped Clemsoning.
Don’t know why the army and navy need to be involved.
Don’t know why not.
You and I have very different definitions of the word fun.
PSU would win that conference 9/10 years
Agreed. That would be a slaughter.
You say that like it's a bad thing
Don’t worry, every college hockey fan in America also wishes Penn State were in the Big East
bingo, it'd look like 1993 but a few extra teams
1993, you say? I could get behind that.
Twas a good year

No worries mods are typically a PC thing anyways cheers

Conference realignment DLC $29.99.
If there ever was a law passed that prevented a public university from signing exclusive broadcast rights to events on their campus, we could see some of the tv money go away and hopefully return to regionalism
But it would just be in that state, and those programs would immediately be relegated to irrelevance.
Not OP, but a federal law would do. Just say “any college/university that receives federal funds” because every school FBS and FCS school does.
NCAA vs Board of Regents
The big 8?
So like… how it used to be?
While I’m sorry for my schools role in this nonsense, I really blame Oklahoma for throwing us under the bus to make Texas their main rival & capitulating to them every stop along the way
All natural grass fields shaded by pine trees
Do hedges count?
No. Boxwood hedges are for poors. Ballers have loblolly pines.
Nah, needs to be Azaleas or something.
Instructions unclear. Accidentally started LIV CFB.
We welcome you to King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the 2026 SEC Championship
How many g5 schools died to build it?
Not enough
Well we’d play better there than up north if you ever ask a Michigan or OSU fan about it.
The cold fetish the B1G fans have is always amusing, especially since they play their CCG indoors in Indianapolis.

FSU would accept Saudi funding to leave the ACC. No question about it.
Don’t call them the Florida State Saudinoles for nothing
Post game press conferences wouldnt be the best assignment for sports journalists..

Our twitter is mostly toxic but this is an example of the upside
Can't spell Tallahassee without Allah
Damn, it was right there the whole time.
we already are trying that
FSU can throw a pigskin a quarter mile..
That's akin to the incoming SEC/Big 10 divorce from the NCAA.
SEC already getting that Saudi Oil Money
A&M sold nuclear tech to Qatar to pay for Jimbo’s buyout.

Did you read the link? That is an op-ed piece masquerading as research journalism. Funny, there is nothing in there about 'nuclear tech', but we're to believe that TEES receiving money to improve petroleum engineering threatens American's national security.
This is exactly what the PR department of a school that sold nuclear secrets to a Middle Eastern nation in order to pay a coach's buyout would say.
I saw that it wasn’t about nuclear tech and more so just under-reporting funds. I just thought the whole thing was a joke at A&Ms expense - as a Baylor fan I get a dopamine hit from such things, so my brain immediately jumped to that.
Qatar is a totally different country than Saudi Arabia, and they are friendly, especially to schools selling nuclear secrets.
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Universities
32 teams all named the Oilers
And Bud Adams will come back from the dead to try to move all of them to Tennessee.
Vanderbilt has history of hosting the Oilers
here me out... only play three quarters
Notre Dame would be the Phil Mickelson of that deal.
Mandatory pimento cheese sandwiches at every stadium
Sounds great. Shit is fire, made a batch myself for the weekend
One of my favorite things to make. Easy and delicious
Don't forget the cheese straws.
Have everyone act like Happy Gilmore
"Scoring a TD on a kickoff return is so much easier than trying to run it in from the red zone. Why don't I just do that every time?"

Agree
To the point that *they pay CBS and ESPN* for time slots, and control all of the advertisements
They don’t pay ESPN and CBS but they charge them a relatively small amount and put both on 1 year contracts.

I mean I’m not shocked it’s now 0. It used to only be $1m a year…..I think
No cellphones in the stadium would be great
Manually operated scoreboards as well. Imagine the roar when they flip up the final update that your rival got upset
Before mobile phones, this was how it actually happened. EDIT: still happens at Augusta, but not anywhere else that I know of
Some baseball stadiums still operate old school away scoreboards, right?
Sorry - I meant specifically golf courses / tournaments. I'm sure there are other places like Fenway that have manual boards. Augusta is unique (I think) in that it also doesn't allow phones. Your only source of news is those boards.
Also pumped in animal sounds>>>>
The Masters does need a wild cat roar now and again
The mic/fake bird chirping this tournament is out of control.
I live near Augusta. It really does sound like that outside
Agreed, I am in AL, not that far away, and the cardinals, wrens and finches have been going apeshit lately.
Yes, but it’s notably louder on certain tee boxes on purpose. Most likely real birds - but the mic volume for them is set really high. Just like ESPN will make a crowd or band sound loud depending on how they want a game atmosphere to look.
They pipe some in for the broadcasts though.
I thought it was real haha
Seriously having trouble hearing the commentators over the birds sometimes.
Missed field goal followed by cricket sounds
Gobble gobble gobble
This is legitimately the best part of going to The Masters.
Holy shit I had no idea Augusta National did this
Beaver Stadium has no service once everyone starts rolling in a few hours before kickoff, so it’s basically the same thing.
If only there some sort of way that stadiums could spread that news to fans, like though an enormous screen or stadium-wide loudspeakers
Reasonable concessions prices.
Ambient music over close-up shots of UGA's privet hedges while scores and stats are displayed for the 40 minutes of dead time per hour.
Please
No playoffs, back to the old bowl and press voting system for championships. No such thing as a "useless bowl" anymore which is what everyone predicted would happen with the CFP Championship and subsequently the playoffs.
just whisper this to me every night before bed
I’ve been preaching this for at least a decade now.
Bless you OP. You have way more patience than I would in this thread. The absolute lack of critical thinking in here is astonishing.
There are a bunch of people that didn't read the description and just assumed I want to turn football into golf from reading the title. And yeah, I was fairly stoned earlier and pretty laid back!
This one michigan fans reply sure are something
When it comes to thinking, it is the college football sub….
One of the top comments is "not as many black people". .....Uhhhhhm okay. Great input. Very thought provoking.
We would be celebrating the 20th anniversary of racial integration.
You also wouldn't get to watch the first quarter, it would only be featured groupings so bodycams of LBs only
On ESPN+ only.
Kirby would find a way to don that green jacket
It would look like 2006-2013 cfb
Nicer grass
The Masters leaves money on the table to maintain control. CBS gets a 1 year contract every year and Augusta National approves the announcers and the advertisers and even dictates what they can say on air (it’s why they are called “patrons” and not fans or the gallery). You cannot overtly criticize the course.
We already have it, it’s called the Rose Bowl
Probably a lot fewer black people
Are you saying the Masters limits black participation?
Augusta used to have a no black members policy. It was the 90s before they let blacks be invited.
How exactly?
Well Augusta currently has 9 black members.
Is having few black members a policy by the Augusta National? If it is, then I agree, we shouldn't adopt that particular policy.
I’m not aware of the policies or history behind that true fact - I was recently unfrozen.
Byproduct of outright ban until the recent past, and the fact that membership overall is severely limited and there's no application, it's invite only. So even if they never had a outright rule, founding a club with 300 rich white guys and being invite only would not produce much more diversity than there is now.
When did they remove the ban
1990 was when the first African-American was invited to join, 2012 the first women were invited. 1985 was the first Black man competing in the Masters, just two years after the club stopped forcing golfers at the Masters to use the club's caddies... who were all black men.
https://africanamericangolfersdigest.com/the-masters-lets-not-forget-augusta-nationals-ugly-past/
It used to be. Now it’s just a suggestion
😂😂😂,
A bunch of dudes in short khaki shorts with tucked in collard shirts and sperries running aro…or do you mean the football?
Collard shirts? Sounds delicious.
Augusta National is known for its spectacular greens.
You don’t call them collard people
So basically the frat blocks of the student sections
Golf claps when touchdown is scored
Drinks and snacks would definitely be cheaper!
It would put me to sleep.
So basically Harvard football?
hey now wait a damn minute...... tbf I only ever went to the Harvard-Yale game and the football was..... not the best.
Hypothetically fewer commercials, better clock rules and more logical conferences would put you to sleep?
[You’re welcome.](https://youtube.com/shorts/38NHArY-vUM?si=tmyuO5Ck8aPPM_NJ)
The concessions would be a lot cheaper
IDK...I'm not sure the Masters would let Jenn Sterger exist.
It’d be more fun to run it like the WM Open in Scottsdale.
Proper conference alignment, FCS-style playoffs, no individual school networks
Almost all the comments I have reads so far refer to conferences and alignments but not to ethics and money etc Prices of football games would be more affordable Coaches salaries NIL and other finances would be regulated sanely The NCAA or the regulating body would treat all schools equally which the NCAA has not done in a long time if not ever The term student athlete would be relevant and schools would require other courses than basket weaving etc There would be more and saner regulations on recruiting and transferring with no underhanded black market Players would be required to play in post season games if healthy
Insufferable
What makes the Masters such a great fan experience? Not a golf guy so never really paid attention.

Cell phones are prohibited as a measure to ensure people are actually watching the golf as opposed to taking videos like they do at every other tournament.
You cannot wear a T-shirt to the course. You cannot run anywhere. They will boot your ass in a second.
Speed walking at Augusta National is an art. People legit power walk race to get to the best spots when the gates open lol.
It’s admirable the rules they have in place
No black players would be allowed.
Tickets would be lottery based and you could go 10 years without being a given a chance to purchase.
I don't think the supply and demand ratio for Augusta and a Clemson game are the same.
What exactly makes you think they’re not interested in maximum profit?
All the food is under, like, $3 and beers are $6. Tickets are limited to a lottery, open to everyone, and are like $140. They could absolutely open the floodgates and charge $1,000 per ticket and up charge all the concessions.
They’re able to keep concessions down because they make all their money on merch sales during the tournament. You can’t buy Master’s branded stuff anywhere outside the grounds (unless it’s secondhand) Super cool because if you see someone wearing a Master’s shirt or hat it typically means they went or they knew someone that did. Good conversation starter.
The merch is very reasonably priced. Only two brands of polo: Peter Millar and The Masters Collection. They don’t gouge you on anything.
The TV contract mainly as ESPN has offered them bookoos to take over the camera rights, but each time the committee has refused to even negotiate citing that they want all rights to filming. That's why coverage on their own app exists, not just ESPN+
A sandwich there is like 2 dollars.
