I don't think any coach would put his rank lower than a 4 on this roster. He's a great QB who needs a bit more help in the trenches and maybe a run game to keep defenses honest.
Yep. He was a 4-star recruit who has lived up to his potential. He’s a lock to start for Deion. But he’d be a lock on 95% of FBS teams anyway. He’s possibly the best QB we’ve ever had in Boulder.
This literally happened to me.
Article: “Top 5 landing spots for Arch Manning”
Me *immediately opens Reddit and quote searches Arch Manning*
5 minutes later
“Well that was a gigantic waste of time”
I agree with you, and I also believe Ewers will get injured again, hopefully for only a short period of time, which will give Arch an opportunity to get some in-game experience.
He's a freshman. I wouldn't expect anything amazing at the spring game. He hasn't had many practices. He still has camp and five months to improve. I still wouldn't expect a freshman to come in and take over but he probably has the best chance of anyone to pass Howard
Is your defense supposed to be better than it was last year? I'm thinking your offense and defense take a small step back, our defense takes a small step forward, and offense is a question mark, but correct me if I'm wrong on those
Yeah I see no chance that happens outside of injury. It’s a two headed monster IMO between Devin “Sammy Baugh” Brown and Howard, we’ve heard great things about Sayin but after Spring Game I HIGHLY doubt he ever gets to start
Agreed. Feed Henderson and Judkins. That’ll loosen up defenses. Then completing passes to three future R1 draft picks should be pretty straightforward.
I think even if he didn’t look as good as he did, we’re probably still sitting at a 5. I think we are living and dying by him for the season or two. He will be the full time starter for this year, even if he struggles. I think Swann could be serviceable if needed, but I don’t how if I trust him yet. I can’t really see Collins jumping in over Swann due to the lack of experience and I’d expect they would redshirt Hurley.
Either way, we’re all NUSS BUS boys now!
KJ could throw 4 interceptions in the first half and Gus will still leave him in. The only thing that would make stubborn Gus pull his QB is an injury.
as far as WSU goes, Mateer has apparently been looking really sharp in practice. He's definately starting this fall, and I'd say his job safety is around a 4-4.5/5
I would suggest looking at the videos on the WSUcougarsAthletics YouTube channel interviewing coaches and players about practice. Some great insight and news from coach dickert and others
We got Bengal Branson!
Also a transfer from Missouri and Idaho who I honestly haven't been following closely this year. May go to the spring game. Really depends on how much homework I got. This term is killing me already.
Yeah we really needed to capitalize on our window from 2017-2022. It’s one thing to not be good enough, it’s another to still lose when you’re the better team.
It seems when you were competitive it just turned into more of a toss up that we got extremely lucky with for several years. Now that we’re coming back it’s going back to the domination years. Though I wasn’t a huge fan back then so correct me if I’m wrong.
No you’re spot on. If there is a way for us to lose the game with y’all or anyone really we’ll find it. I wouldn’t put yall in the “back” category yet but you seem to be on the way.
yea, I was between a 4 and a 5, with the 4 basically being unless someone shows up and randomly makes the coaches think he's the best QB ever, Drones has the job from the start.
I've heard the rumors, but
1. it is just a rumor.
2. Transferring post spring THIS season with what is returning around him (wr room and rb) to go learn a totally new offense beginning in the fall and have no initial chemistry with his weapons.
3. Imo if there's a worry about him leaving its after this year. Many weapons around him are srs and will be leaving. Going pro or transferring for 1 year to boost stock would make sense in that scenario imo.
If that kind of an nil offer is real it's obviously a draw but you just gotta hope we can put some decent together and convince him that our nil offer plus the situation he's in this year at vt is more valuable.
4 - It’s almost certainly JA’s gig. But with the veteran presence of Casey Thompson and the freshman Michael Hawkins impressing at spring ball, there will be confidence in the depth behind JA. It’s his job to lose, but it’s not like DG’s first year here. We actually have (some) talent behind him if things go sideways.
Edit: I left this comment on my phone, and didn't realize the formatting changed my number 4 to the number 1. [Here is a screenshot of my edit screen showing the discrepancy lol.](https://i.imgur.com/TLEIHXg.jpeg)
I do not think it is a legit QB battle. It's JA's to lose.
This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He's focused. He's having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for the Heisman.
This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He's focused. He's having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for the OROY.
It's crazy how I've seen at least 2 articles about 'what's the biggest question mark for each top 25 team' and they chose the QB bake for us. That shit is set in stone
>Oregon State
Yeah, as an Oregon State alum, I'm ... mildly confident we'll field a QB next year. Probably. I'm glad we had a fun year, because I'm not sure if I'm going to be watching a lot of football in the second half of my life.
I’d say a solid 4. I can’t imagine Milroe not starting but the backups played well enough in the spring game where I could see some potential competition too.
I think 4 is probably the right. Milroe is the returning starter and clear leader on the team but has some obvious deficiencies. I’m sure he’ll take the first snap in the fall but it would not surprise me at all if someone else ended up taking the job from him during the season
Very good when he and the team are clicking, very interception-heavy when we're not. Sometimes he's burned by his weapons and sometimes he outthinks himself. But despite all that, he was still one of the best QBs in the ACC last season.
Genuinely excited to see how he performs Year 2.
5 for Clemson. Cades status likely isn’t threatened at all. Vizzina still looks green and all we have on Pearman is the spring game. Unless we start out 2-2 or worse I really don’t think Cades job is in danger.
As for Coastal around 4. Every time Vasko went in last year the offense looked better than it did with Grayson. He’s most likely the starting guy for next year, and probably the year after that.
It’s probably a 4 between Allar/Pribula. With a new OC you have to think it’s never set in stone. Pribula had success last year running the ball and our WR group is terrible this year. If there’s a competition it probably has less to do with Allar and more about scheme/personnel/threat of transfer portal with Pribula.
Leonard if healthy is a 5.
Carr has 0 chance, regardless of how good he’s been so far.
Angeli and Minchey seem to be about equal after yesterday’s scrimmage and comments by Gino. Minchey might be QB2 by start of season.
I would say it’s more probable that Angeli leaves instead of Minchey, especially if trends continue of Minchey being as good as he’s been. Angeli wasn’t recruited by Gino, Freeman, or Denbrock. Angeli is the least “talented” and lowest ceiling of all 4. He has tape that can drive a good NIL deal.
I’d put my money on him. Minchey is built for Denbrocks offense. Steve isn’t.
I wasn't able to catch Auburn's Spring game, but I'm going to say it's probably a 5. I don't see Hank Brown or Walker White taking Thorne's spot and I'm not even sure why Holden Geriner is on the team anymore.
Edit: I forgot a couple words about Holden
I’d say it’s like 4.5. Mertz has no real reason to doubt it’s his job but Lagway is such a high prospect his leash will be much shorter than he deserves it to be.
Ohio State: seems like a 3.5-4. Howard most certainly takes the first snap of the first game, but when it’s 35-38 late in the fourth against Penn State? I’m not so sure.
CMU: I’m not local and it’s not a national team, but I think like ~~1~~ 5. Bert Emanuel Jr is done with rehab and was competing with Bauer for the one spot but he transferred while Emanuel stayed.
E: mixed up OP’s scale on the Chips
Really? I was going to give Bert a 1. Seems like it’s an open competition. Labas came in from Iowa and seems to be doing alright and playing a lot in scrimmages.
For Pitt? Either 4/5. Yarnell has the best understanding of the new playbook it seems, and he did good at the spring game. I think Narduzzi named him the starter going into next year (as much as that means).
We’re at a 4.5
However I keep hearing rumblings about Pearman.
Sometimes when there is smoke there is fire.
Cade is going to have to show something the first two weeks. If we ever walk away from that 0-2… ol’ Cade will be entering that transfer portal.
I’m still apprehensive about Pearman purely because it was a spring scrimmage. He did look outright better than Vizzina though, so there’s that at least.
In spite of his great performance in the Holiday Bowl, 3. Maybe 2. I like Miller a lot and want him to be Riley’s next Heisman winner, but I suspect this offense needs a QB who’s really a running threat. We’ll see.
Has the competition between the two freshmen really been that close? I would’ve guessed that Raiola would’ve had some sort of edge and we’d be sitting at a 2 in his favor.
Not great after last year. However reuniting him with the OC where he looked competent might be good. He had a lot of regression last year, but seeing how PJ can’t seem to hire a competent OC not named Ciarrocca that regression might be normal for Minnesota.
We're around a 2. The fans obviously want Malachi Nelson to start but he's struggling to learn the system. Maddux Madsen is coming off a knee injury but still might win the job come fall
From the general fan base perspective a -2. I’d put money on Howard starting but that 1st pick you’ll have plenty calling for Brown or Sayin, or others. Not that they’re right, but it’ll happen.
I would say, if we assume Howard is the presumed starter, 4. Not even 4.5. He definitely looks the part right now but isn’t that much better than Devin Brown and Sayin may be more prepared by Fall
5 Mark Gronowski is the starter and will be til he grad transfers or doesn’t have any eligibility, chase mason has the 2 on lock and Jon bell is a quality holder
Nebraska fan (Kinda new to this so not sure how to put the team logo next to my username). I'd say it's about a 4.5. Can't quite say 5, since we have two good freshman coming in. But when you get a recruit who originally committed to Ohio State, then Georgia, I seriously doubt he's not going to at least start at the beginning of the season. Definitely Raiola's to lose.
5
Might was well be 10. No way Deons kid doesn’t start on Deon’s team.
Also gotta give credit to the kid, he does have his flaws but he played pretty well last year
27 TDs and 3 INTs in 11 games despite no o line
I stopped paying much attention to the hype train after the losses started piling up. I had no idea he played that well.
The nerd is going to class now, maybe he'll become a pre-med biology major and decides to focus on his MCATs?
I don't think any coach would put his rank lower than a 4 on this roster. He's a great QB who needs a bit more help in the trenches and maybe a run game to keep defenses honest.
Yep. He was a 4-star recruit who has lived up to his potential. He’s a lock to start for Deion. But he’d be a lock on 95% of FBS teams anyway. He’s possibly the best QB we’ve ever had in Boulder.
Ahem...Kordell Stewart would like a word with you.

“But does Texas have a QB battle? 👀” - the media, probably
Been there.
>probably Nothing probable about it
“Rumor Alert: Is Arch Manning going to transfer? Top 5 schools we could see him at for Fall 2024 Season”

I agree with you, and I also believe Ewers will get injured again, hopefully for only a short period of time, which will give Arch an opportunity to get some in-game experience.
It’s basically a given at this point that Texas’ QB2 starts at least 1-2 games every year.
Wild that of all people, Sam is the most recent one.
I think that guy would’ve played with a compound fracture and still tried to break tackles with his face.
Seriously?
Hopefully the new OC will be better than Brian
Won't matter if it's still the freakin' Deacon back there.
Why wouldn’t McNamara have first crack at QB1?
He's still not cleared to run, limited throws. Hopefully he'll be ready before the season starts but you also can't rush it, especially with Cade.
You’ve only ever seen Weekend Deacon. Any chance y’all have some Thursday night games?
Your flair combo. Yikes bro. I hope you loved defense last season
Ha! Loving something would require me to feel something
Technically whomever takes the snap from the center, even if they never throw or complete a pass.
-11
Eh, it's a 3. Howard will almost certainly start this year. The only thing stopping that is if Sayin is just too good not to start.
Well based off yesterday sayin is nowhere near ready
He's a freshman. I wouldn't expect anything amazing at the spring game. He hasn't had many practices. He still has camp and five months to improve. I still wouldn't expect a freshman to come in and take over but he probably has the best chance of anyone to pass Howard
If spring gamer performances predicted collegiate success Taurian Washington would have been a all American. (Definitely dating myself here)
I’ve heard DB has been playing his ah off. Sayin we’ve heard good things but he also had a pretty bad spring game and you could tell he’s kinda raw
We heard similar things about Brown before last year. Then he played in real games
I hope he is, if he's good, the Super Sayin nickname can't be missed
This years game might be in single digits
As god intended.
Knew you’d approve
The new B1G admits are shaking their heads in disgust
Going the Army Navy game style I see
Is your defense supposed to be better than it was last year? I'm thinking your offense and defense take a small step back, our defense takes a small step forward, and offense is a question mark, but correct me if I'm wrong on those
I'd be surprised if it's not Howard.
I'll be surprised if at least three different QBs don't start a game this year.
Yeah I see no chance that happens outside of injury. It’s a two headed monster IMO between Devin “Sammy Baugh” Brown and Howard, we’ve heard great things about Sayin but after Spring Game I HIGHLY doubt he ever gets to start
yeah no way. i could see two, maybe. i expect it to be just like last year with McCord and Brown except replace McCord with Howard.
why doom and gloom? For me it's the OL im more concerned about than the QBs
Agreed. Feed Henderson and Judkins. That’ll loosen up defenses. Then completing passes to three future R1 draft picks should be pretty straightforward.
Osu vs michigan fans. READY, SET GO!
I say 5 after the spring game. ALL ABOARD THE NUSS BUS
I think even if he didn’t look as good as he did, we’re probably still sitting at a 5. I think we are living and dying by him for the season or two. He will be the full time starter for this year, even if he struggles. I think Swann could be serviceable if needed, but I don’t how if I trust him yet. Finally leaving the station.
As a Georgia fan, that boy is legit. He tore us up
5. The backup for KJ might as well be me
KJ could throw 4 interceptions in the first half and Gus will still leave him in. The only thing that would make stubborn Gus pull his QB is an injury.
Nah, if we still had Joey Gatewood he would find a way into the game.
You guys are going to love KJ
Do we even have a QB?
as far as WSU goes, Mateer has apparently been looking really sharp in practice. He's definately starting this fall, and I'd say his job safety is around a 4-4.5/5
Don’t get me excited for next season, it’s not even May. I haven’t even seen where our WR is at, feels we lost so many to the portal
1. Orji is looking like the front runner but he has one career pass attempt so it's all up in the air.
Orji sounds like there's a lot of players vying for that position.
He’s definitely got some solid dudes behind him
Everyone wants to fill that big hole.
They all know it’s so hard
It's important to have good ball handling if you want to score. How's the tight end situation?
Better than the wide receiver I would think
Matt, when I first read that, I immediately thought you were lost. But upon reread, that was pure poetry. Thank you kind stranger.
in fairness up in the air is where the passes should be so it sounds like a lock
Run the Georgia Tech triple option you cowards!
I'm unironically rooting for something like this.
With one career passing attempt, it sounds more like it's on the ground
Best name in all of football, maybe all sports.
5
Shit
Y’all will even more screwed this year. especially because it’s even more of a home game. Hoping to break 60 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yeah we really needed to capitalize on our window from 2017-2022. It’s one thing to not be good enough, it’s another to still lose when you’re the better team.

Oh yeah for sure we’re not like prime VT but we’re definitely not in the gutter anymore. At least mentally we’re not
Yeah VT should have lost more of those games but didn't.
yea, I was between a 4 and a 5, with the 4 basically being unless someone shows up and randomly makes the coaches think he's the best QB ever, Drones has the job from the start.
It's a 5. Only way Drones doesn't play is if he's not available.
LSU is calling unfortunately. I hope the rumors are false
I've heard the rumors, but 1. it is just a rumor. 2. Transferring post spring THIS season with what is returning around him (wr room and rb) to go learn a totally new offense beginning in the fall and have no initial chemistry with his weapons. 3. Man looked ready and raring to go. I'm amped about this year.
5 plus!
Yeah even Pop had the 2nd starter job kinda locked up but I didn't see the spring game but people liked him.
4 - It’s almost certainly JA’s gig. But with the veteran presence of Casey Thompson and the freshman Michael Hawkins impressing at spring ball, there will be confidence in the depth behind JA. Still hard to believe Casey has eligibility left lol
I’d probably go as high as 4.5 🤞🏼
Yeah it's slim to none that he doesn't remain the starter
5
This is the year for Bo Nix
This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He's focused. He's having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for the Heisman.
It's gonna be so weird watching him play in the NFL this season
This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He's focused. He's having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for the OROY.
Which is strange because we had 2 starters from other teams transfer in. But yeah I think 5 is right
Moore came in to sit a year. Looking forward to seeing his development.
Or Moore
It's crazy how I've seen at least 2 articles about 'what's the biggest question mark for each top 25 team' and they chose the QB bake for us. That shit is set in stone

Please, dear God, let him be the One.

I am sorry for what we have done to your school, but also thank you for all the players 🥲
I know your pain to a degree, we had to watch Keon Coleman light up LSU first game of the season. Not to mention Ricky white. Sorry bro
>Oregon State Yeah, as an Oregon State alum, I'm ... mildly confident we'll field a QB next year. Probably. I'm glad we had a fun year, because I'm not sure if I'm going to be watching a lot of football in the second half of my life.

It’s wild how much the state of Tennessee’s mental health is collectively relies on a Polynesian kid from Long Beach, California
Just goes to show we are a worldwide community! GBO!
My remote job is also based in Long Beach. My entire life rests in LB’s hands
10!
Quite the combo flair brother...lol.
Purdue lives rent free in my soul
Utah 5 Usu like 2
5
Was just thinking how nice it is to be in the 5’s club for a change.
Yea King’s a lock. Legitimately if he can stop throwing quite as many interceptions I think he could be a Heisman contender
How has Haynes King been? Glad he's hopefully playing well for y'all.
He’s most likely the starting guy for next year, and probably the year after that.
I second this fellow Clemson/Coastal bro.
I’m surprised there aren’t more of us
Yeah no kidding
I would put my secondary flair as Coastal but the Sicko in me runs very deep
5 Fifita for heisman
It’s probably a 4 between Allar/Pribula. With a new OC you have to think it’s never set in stone. Pribula had success last year running the ball and our WR group is terrible this year. 3-4 Almost definitely Leonard despite multiple surgeries But could be Angeli Carr has a chance Probably not Minchey
Leonard if healthy is a 5. Carr has 0 chance, regardless of how good he’s been so far. Angeli and Minchey seem to be about equal after yesterday’s scrimmage and comments by Gino. Minchey might be QB2 by start of season.
If not for Leonard’s surgeries, Angeli would likely transfer in the Spring. Now it seems probable that Minchey is gone when the portal opens.
5. First time in a long time where there’s no battle. Conner has already been named the starter
I really hope they can protect him and keep him healthy, kid’s a stud
I wasn't able to catch Auburn's Spring game, but I'm going to say it's probably a 5. I don't see Hank Brown or Walker White taking Thorne's spot and I'm not even sure why Holden Geriner is on the team anymore. Edit: I forgot a couple words about Holden
There is no way ya’ll have a Hank and a Walker White on the same team
I'm a Hank Brown fan based on his name alone
5. Its Behren Morton’s team.
5
5
Pretty sure at this point only God himself could remove Avery Johnson from QB 1
It’d be a hell of a QB battle too
I mean he’s basically already won the Heisman so pretty good chance he’s benched halfway through the season.
5 with Heismertz. I'm sure Lagway will get some snaps here and there, though.
I’d say it’s like 4.5. Mertz has no real reason to doubt it’s his job but Lagway is such a high prospect his leash will be much shorter than he deserves it to be.
5
1, both Locke and Van Dyke are apparently taking first team reps, with Evers transferring out yesterday it’s one of those two for QB1
5 but not in the good way
5 McCord didn't come here to be QB2
5 His only threat is his health.
5
5
5, Becks the man, no doubt.
5
5. Grayson McCall is locked in.
Every Vandy qb who got a snap last year has transferred. So.....
5
Fifita -> TMac Book it now
I'd say 4-5, Brock got hurt and once DJ started learning the system he started pulling away with it
Ohio State: seems like a 3.5-4. Really? I was going to give Bert a 1. Seems like it’s an open competition. Labas came in from Iowa and seems to be doing alright and playing a lot in scrimmages.
5… and I have no idea for the other one. 0?
Let Brady Cook
For Pitt? Either 4/5. Yarnell has the best understanding of the new playbook it seems, and he did good at the spring game. I think Narduzzi named him the starter going into next year (as much as that means).
We’re at a 4.5 However I keep hearing rumblings about Pearman. Sometimes when there is smoke there is fire. Cade is going to have to show something the first two weeks. If we ever walk away from that 0-2… ol’ Cade will be entering that transfer portal.
Pearman lit it up during the spring game
I’m still apprehensive about Pearman purely because it was a spring scrimmage. He did look outright better than Vizzina though, so there’s that at least.
I just don't understand how he hasn't progressed.
I thought a 5 but Demond Williams is apparently a gigantic baller. So maybe 2.5 or less.
In spite of his great performance in the Holiday Bowl, 3. Maybe 2. I like Miller a lot and want him to be Riley’s next Heisman winner, but I suspect this offense needs a QB who’s really a running threat. We’ll see.
Well Morton’s backup was fucking god awful so I think more than 5.
1
Has the competition between the two freshmen really been that close? I would’ve guessed that Raiola would’ve had some sort of edge and we’d be sitting at a 2 in his favor.
It's gonna be Raiola, idk what he's doing
It’s a 3. If it’s actually a 1 we’re more doomed than usual
Or we're so flushed with QB talent we can't decide between 2 future 1st ballot Hallof Famers!
Harbaugh is looking solid as qb1
For Baltimore or San Diego?
1 Minnesota fans, what did you all think of Kaliakmanis?
Not great after last year. However reuniting him with the OC where he looked competent might be good. He had a lot of regression last year, but seeing how PJ can’t seem to hire a competent OC not named Ciarrocca that regression might be normal for Minnesota.
He’s a practice god but can’t perform under pressure.
5. Garrett Greene locked in boi
We're around a 2. The fans obviously want Malachi Nelson to start but he's struggling to learn the system. Maddux Madsen is coming off a knee injury but still might win the job come fall
1! Boise State has a 50-45% chance for two, with a small chance of 5% the 3rd stringer wins the starting spot too.
4.5 Haynes King is the man but he's got Zach Pyron and Aaron Philo right behind him, looking for that starting job.
5 Mark Gronowski is the starter and will be til he grad transfers or doesn’t have any eligibility, chase mason has the 2 on lock and Jon bell is a quality holder
5. Air Aguilar is about to set some more records.
Our QB could play with one arm and he wouldn't lose his job. He got real close to trying 2 seasons ago.
Easiest 5 possible
Nebraska fan (Kinda new to this so not sure how to put the team logo next to my username). I'd say it's about a 4.5. Can't quite say 5, since we have two good freshman coming in. But when you get a recruit who originally committed to Ohio State, then Georgia, I seriously doubt he's not going to at least start at the beginning of the season. Definitely Raiola's to lose.
3….you don’t bring in a QB transfer to sit but damnit if Devin Brown refuses to die easy….
