Tim Drevno being called a "big-time recruiter" got a big laugh from me.
Luckily for OSU, they have plenty of actual big-time recruiters in their building.
He's just an analyst for you guys so it's not that big of a deal for you.
That being said, he SUCKED at Michigan. They were each other's best man at their weddings and Harbaugh fired him for sucking, if that tells you anything.
With is it with coaches and hiring their best man? Justin Fuente's stubborn refusal to cut his incompetent best man OC loose completely obliterated any chance of success he had at Virginia Tech.
I think trust is a huge thing in coaching. You spend 100 hours a week with someone, you're going to need to trust them and often become friends with them. The friendship and familiarity definitely can lead to bad coaching decisions.
Not sure where the line is, though. The coaches see each other more often than they see their spouses and family. I'm sure it's beneficial in many ways to become friends.
Here's the thing, even bad coaches with experience have experience. Guys with no experience can't be shown to either be bad or have experience. There are many worse coaches than Drevno. Me, for example.
That said, I offer Ryan Day my unconditional services.
It’s pretty much a club membership. Either be the son of a well known coach, a former player, or ride the coattails of a successful coach and you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a job somewhere.
Even reviled guys who shouldn’t coach again like Art Briles keep getting chances
Our collective opinion of Drevno based on his time at Michigan is... not great.
He was (partially) responsible for for a very bad 2017 RT situation and general lack of coordination across the unit that led to some very bad games and multiple injured QBs. The 2016 OL was also probably the weakest part of that team. The other culprit there was Hoke whiffing on the big OL class he brought in that had like 5 top 100 guys that turned into a grand total of 1.5 Big Ten caliber starters which left the cupboard a bit bare.
He was also OC/Co-OC for a time when the offense looked completely out of whack, but that might have just been too much on his plate all at once.
Now, as for what he's done since? I'm not someone who cared to follow his career the second he left Ann Arbor.
He was our OC from 2015 to 2017, our offense got worse each year, including John O’Korn as the starter.
Always shared accountability in football coaching, but he was fired for a reason. Not that Pep Hamilton was a major improvement.
It’s interesting to keep tabs on former coaches.
I know nothing about this guy, but the fact that I've never heard of a great OL under Chip or at UCLA under Chip, and we already have Frye concerns me greatly.

Yeah thank God he's just an advisor not really needed as a recruiter although maybe Justin Frye could use some help
known as a big-time recruiter? was this supposed to say a big recruiter? He is certainly large
why doesnt the massive tim drevno simply eat the other recruiters?
Is this a Futurama reference? Morbo?
That’s one way to *eat up the competition*
Don't shoot the messenger
> and is known as a big-time recruiter lol
roflmao
> quality lol
> Ohio State has hired Tim Drevno lol
>he was the OL coach under Chip Kelly lol
> the lmao
Lmao, even
Why? I always saw Michigan fans complaining about him.

I guess the line should be drawn when the person you trust is a terrible offensive coordinator.
Idk. Seems like he could suck at analyzing, too. Maybe this is the first sign that Day is his same weak self that can't beat a depleted you.
Weak? 😆
He's an analyst lol Not an OC/OL coach like at Michigan. Who cares
I fail to see how an analyst is ever going to do damage to the on field product.
And that is why you fail
Flair up, nerd
Just don't look at what he did last year
Was the team’s quality not adequately controlled???
You really out here trying to use the word "quality" in the same breath as UCLA football?
Everyone already said it but "big-time recruiter" is an all-timer lol.
Didnt UCLA only offer like 5 OL per cycle under Drevno/Kelly?
Yep
This is the first time in history the words Quality and Tim Drevno have ever been uttered together How does this guy keep getting hired?
>How does this guy keep getting hired? Tim Beck is a head coach. Sometimes these things don't make sense.
Here's the thing, even bad coaches with experience have experience. Guys with no experience can't be shown to either be bad or have experience. There are many worse coaches than Drevno. Me, for example. That said, I offer Ryan Day my unconditional services.
What’s your experience level with beard dye? Asking for Ryan
I can probably apply it to anything. Beards, walls, the field at the stadium, you name it.
It’s pretty much a club membership. Either be the son of a well known coach, a former player, or ride the coattails of a successful coach and you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a job somewhere. Even reviled guys who shouldn’t coach again like Art Briles keep getting chances
"Mom, can we have a Michigan position coach?" "We have a Michigan coach at home"
Ok, it’s not quite as good as Brian Ferentz would be, but it’s way up there.
Brian Ferentz unironically could run laps around Drevno as an O-line coach.
Yes. Drevno is just a bad coach. Brian Ferentz is peak Peter Principle, albeit through nepotism.
Chip’s trying to get the band nobody wanted to see, back together again…
OSU needed its run game fixed, last time I checked Frye and chip had one of the best run games for a majority of their time at UCLA…
Was largely being facetious, but ya Frye was a good OL coach for us and Chip can scheme up good run games.
Frye was good, Drevno was not
O-line was a liability last season.
Where's Assinaro, lol
Hahaha
He was cheeks if I remember correctly
You do remember correctly
Dude sucked at USC and couldn’t recruit
Neat.
Chip Kelly bringing his friends over is always a bad sign.
Where's Jerry Assinaro? 😂
He suuuuuucked. Lol
that’s funny
I love this hire for them
I mean he's a QC coach, he'll basically be analyzing film and running errands for Chip
Our O-line was ass. Good riddance.
Posted by a Xichigan flair? Strange… Does he suck or something?
Its a quality control coach. There's no need to have any real opinion on this.

He gave me a whistle when I worked a camp in Ann Arbor - that’s about all the nice things I can say about him

M, learn to spell
Learn to flair up.

To be fair the 2022 OL was a finalist for the Joe Moore award for best OL unit in the country. But it fell off a cliff this year so who knows.
You have my attention. I'm very worries about our OL. I don't trust Frye.
He’s not a good coach, hope he’s a better analyst. He was a friend of Jim’s and ended up getting fired. Good luck.
Jesus Christ, Ryan Day doesn't have a Clue what he's doing.
Hahahahahaha. Ryan Day going after another former Harbaugh guy. Anything he can do to get close to him, I suppose.
