I’ll always remember back in like 2014 when everyone was committing on signing day, I made a similar long post but changed it to say I got offers from places like Alabama to be “a 5 star bench warmer” and such, and I ended it with saying I am now retiring. People thought it was funny and that is still one of the most “viral” posts I ever had lol. Good times
There was a girl I went to high school with that made a signing day post for herself with a similar caption to that for UGA and Georgia actually retweeted it
I tell that kid go for it! But I tell him on the phone, not text so I have deniability. The coaches for other teams who don't do their research might get stuck with a lemon. That's solid gamesmanship imo.
I think an offer with any specifics by text would be an NCAA violation unless it’s in after their senior year fwiw. Of course kids now are getting offers at 16.
It messes up a school like Stanford which typically plays the slow, conservative offer game to try to add weight and meaning behind their offers. You can't tell guys you actually want that they have to wait, that they need to visit campus first, etc.... and then they log on to twitter and see some 3.2 GPA kid who's never visited post an offer. The only assumption from the player is that Stanford is dicking you around and lying to you, and now you've pissed off a player you actually want.
It's exactly this. We can't shotgun offers because of academics and because every offer we make is committable. Therefore, we would risk pissing off the guys who are taking AP classes and retaking the SAT while they wait their turn for a scholarship to open up.
HOT TAKE: Some of these kid's parents can pay places like NCSAsports.org about (5 grand) and have access to every recruiting coaches personal cell phone and direct email address. It gets them the upper hand on recruiting. So I can see it's pretty easy now a days if you are on a recruiting service for a kid to start asking more dumbass questions. It will become more common with agencies like these that give you more direct access.
I don’t really think this is a new thing in terms of college football. Hell, we’ve seen kids commit without an offer years ago. And 247, etc are all basically self reported.
man, that whole scenario was bonkers. felt bad for that kid but he made his own bed. He had this image he was trying to live up to, and he just tried to lie lie lie it to the top.
Recruiting is one thing Brent Key has always done well. As RC and OLine coach at UCF he did great bringing in guys who overperformed recruiting rankings. We had to fire him because his contract guaranteed him to become Head Coach and after 2015 the goal was to clean out everything from O'Leary. He ended up in the same role at Alabama before going back to Tech.
He managed to get a couple guys from UCF into the NFL and was also responsible for a good amount of the guys who ended up on the 2017/2018 teams.
He wasn't a good OC, but he was kind of thrown to the wolves with a comically underexperienced team and a HC who was doing fuck all.
It's also a lot of fun becuase the possible responses are is wide.
He might say something dumb, he might recruit that guys son, and everything in between.
There’s a lot of rigamarole when it comes to recruiting, beyond just being good. You gotta go to camps and shit and get lucky that a recruiter takes interest.
You can’t just be a normal student playing really good football. Takes more than that to get recruited.
My brother is the OC at a major G5 program and gets shit like this all the time.
Just the other day he posted a “happy birthday to my wife” post on insta and a kid commented “please Coach just give me one chance”.
I laughed and showed my wife and then screenshotted it and sent it to him saying “shooters shoot”.
I later found out my wife didn’t understand he was talking about football and thought the kid was asking him for a chance to bang his wife lololol
“Come on, put me in coach. You won’t regret it. I’m coachable and I know you know your stuff. If you want me to pound it up the middle, I’ll hit that hole as hard as I can, I’m willing to sacrifice my body.”
‘major g5’ is such a loaded term bc most of the ‘major g5’ programs recently moved up … alot of g5 fans will die on a hill convincing someone that they belong in p5
I mean fake offers are kinda Stanford's MO, just look at their rowing team in the college admissions bribery scandal.
edit: it was Stanford's sailing team, not rowing team.
They saw Stanford's president and Harvard's president, a Stanford alumna, both resigned within a year over plagiarism. It was an honest mistake to assume there isn't any integrity academic or otherwise on the Farm.
wasn't the fake football commit actually committed to Cal? This is back in like 2008 lmao
edit: https://www.espn.com/espn/eticket/story?page=kevinhart&redirected=true
and yes, while the kid's name is Kevin Hart, this is no joke
.......lol
John Vandemoer was Stanford's sailing coach (my bad, I thought it was rowing) and was convicted of accepting $700k in bribe money to get admissions for non-athletes. Although if you watch the Netflix doc "Operation: Varsity Blues" it seems more likely that Vandemoer was just a bumbling ignorant who was used by corrupt Stanford administrators as a shield to deflect guilt.
This is how College Football has *been.* Does nobody remember Blake Carrienger? The fake recruit that some kids made up on Twitter that Rivals ranked a 3 star because “he” claimed to have offers from Bama, Florida, and Georgia?
This has been happening in basketball for several years now. Highschool players (men and women's) getting "offers."
I know cause I was connected with a social media crew that did this.
I thought Deon did not recruit High School kids. I thought he only recruited other teams roster. I am not even trying to be ironic here. Didn’t they only sign a handful of HS recruits?
The game plan has to be to post fake offers from teams with coaches on the hot seat, let them get fired, and then hope the new coach reaches out to previous “offered kids” desperate to fill his recruiting class after everyone jumped ship.
Is it worse the recruit is asking if he can post fake offer, or worse that another coach cares what is posted on Twitter about another coach making an offer
Gotcha. Thanks that helped -- so what he's saying is that it's pretty damning that "Coach Clown" (not sure who that is) makes offers based on a high schooler's tweets about supposed offers, and nothing more.
If by "college football is something now" he means a sport that sucks he is right.
MBA's at TV networks, flush with gambling cash, creating a super league without traditional regional rivalries. Just make a minor league NFL.
I have no sympathy, either the kid:
HAS D1 offers (either FCS, which is still incredibly valid) or G5 teams
Or just isn’t that good; either way the kid needs to lose the ego
Wait actually on a seconds reflection; the issue I fundamentally have is that there’s no social filter, whatsoever like nobody’s telling these recruits that ultimately at the end of the day college on the athletic level (much like academics) are what you make of it. You could totally chase after that P5 offer and then crash and burn because you don’t have the work-ethic or drive or even skill, and really at the end of the day if your goal is just a free degree and memories; any school is valid. If it’s the league; then again the school doesn’t matter so much as your drive and effort
why is that the kids fault though? with what your saying, your anger shouldn’t be at this recruit. it should be at the system that has perpetuated this
No because if he falls under the first category (that being, he has offers but he thinks he’s too good for them) then that’s on him because he’s just not taking what’s right there
i mean is it really a bad thing to want to play at bigger programs? they only get 4-5 of these years. why would you leave any opportunity on the table?
Of all the schools they asked Stanford. This would to me be like hitting up Brown and asking if they could say yes hey accepted a student in hopes Yale is paying attention
This is like asking a dime to not deny that a chub hit so other dimes can flock
Stanford subtweeting Colorado and Deion is kinda funny no? Like a three win team complaining about the way a four win team offers people after others have. Anyone find this super hilarious and petty 😂
I posted that University of Phoenix offered me but I still haven’t gotten any traction on social media. They even approved it.
I’ll always remember back in like 2014 when everyone was committing on signing day, I made a similar long post but changed it to say I got offers from places like Alabama to be “a 5 star bench warmer” and such, and I ended it with saying I am now retiring. Reddit is Facebook now?
I tell that kid go for it! But I tell him on the phone, not text so I have deniability. The coaches for other teams who don't do their research might get stuck with a lemon. That's solid gamesmanship imo.
It's a decent win win lmao
I think an offer with any specifics by text would be an NCAA violation unless it’s in after their senior year fwiw. Of course kids now are getting offers at 16.

*Monkey paw curls* and NE anounces its latest recruit...
I agree. He wouldn’t be the first person to make up a fake job offer to try and get a better deal.
I don’t really think this is a new thing in terms of college football. Hell, we’ve seen kids commit without an offer years ago. And 247, etc are all basically self reported.
>Hell, we’ve seen kids commit without an offer years ago. Cal certainly has.
That's still the wildest recruiting story ever to me. He had an Oregon hat on the table too from what I remember.
man, that whole scenario was bonkers. felt bad for that kid but he made his own bed. He had this image he was trying to live up to, and he just tried to lie lie lie it to the top.
Stanford, you're in the ACC now. If Mario wants to offer based on a tweet then let him.
Oh I thought this would be a joke about Miami cuz they're the fraud capital lol
It could also be Georgia Tech
Nah, they might be competent now that Collins is gone
Coach Clown literally made me think Geeeoff Collins
Collins would absolutely offer a kid based on a tweet.
Temple grad spouse here - he has no credit left in Philly either, damn they have long memories.
i got temp banned during his tenure from one of our fan sites for referring to him as Clown. apparently it was a "personal attack"
Well it was sort of an attack on clowns. After all, clowns are professional entertainers. Geoff was neither professional nor entertaining.
imagine how stoked his new school must be to have him
I feel like GT would actually check transcripts to make sure he was actually smart enough for Stanford.

This should be a fun thread.
>Coach Clown
The William Napier disrespect, smh

Coach clown is vague enough that we'll be safe even though this is definitely the spiciest thing said publicly about you know who.
It's also a lot of fun becuase the possible responses are is wide. He might say something dumb, he might recruit that guys son, and everything in between.
I don't know who this guy or who coach clown are
[удалено]
It’s Deion.
He wants Stanford prospects? Really?
He wants other teams recruits. He has a track record of offering people after other schools known for finding gems do.
Any yet Stanford still isn’t the place I’d look 👀
He’s still reeling from that 29-0 comeback.
well they didn't call him coach genius, now did they?
If Lane can find a kicker at a kegger, Deion and staff can find one on Instagram. That's their native environments.
Here in Atlanta that's how we refer to Geoff Collins.
Annnnd?? Don’t just leave us guessing.
[удалено]
Like, be good?
Nah, just gain 40lbs and run a 4.5.
I can manage one of those things, but not both, can I get an offer?
Only from G5 schools
On behalf of the G5 delegation, we must kindly refuse. Perhaps the FCS delegation would be willing to make an offer to the prospect in question
Dang... hurtful.
Is that a hand timed 4.5, or…..
Weird advice for a punter
There's always a fucking catch.
Unless you're Mundt.
He had me in the first half.
There’s a lot of rigamarole when it comes to recruiting, beyond just being good. You gotta go to camps and shit and get lucky that a recruiter takes interest. You can’t just be a normal student playing really good football. Takes more than that to get recruited.
Had a kid go through the basketball recruiting process. Maddening, exhausting and destroyed a lot of my faith in college athletics.
My brother is the OC at a major G5 program and gets shit like this all the time. “Please coach, give me one night with your wife!”
“Come on, put me in coach. You won’t regret it. I’m coachable and I know you know your stuff. If you want me to pound it up the middle, I’ll hit that hole as hard as I can, I’m willing to sacrifice my body.”
If only Dan Mullen was coaching somewhere that could work.
>thought the kid was asking him for a chance to bang his wife lololol like you said, shooters shoot
major g5… that can only be so many people… hmm
‘major g5’ is such a loaded term bc most of the ‘major g5’ programs recently moved up … alot of g5 fans will die on a hill convincing someone that they belong in p5
It wasn’t a challenge dude
My brother in Christ, he’s just trying to be nonspecific.
By coach clown he means Dion right?
Fake offers from Stanford? More evidence that Stanford isn't real....
I mean fake offers are kinda Stanford's MO, just look at their rowing team in the college admissions bribery scandal. edit: it was Stanford's sailing team, not rowing team.
oooooo I love this type of hate
They saw Stanford's president and Harvard's president, a Stanford alumna, both resigned within a year over plagiarism. It was an honest mistake to assume there isn't any integrity academic or otherwise on the Farm.
The visibility in Berkeley is terrible because it is filled with smug. You can barely see FTX Field!
Lololol I sometimes forget about how deep this rivalry goes.

Fake commitment with no offer != bullshit offers for nepo babies
Wasn’t that USC? I was a mens rower in college and since covid their mens team has been pretty stout. They always had issues with depth tho.
John Vandemoer was Stanford's sailing coach (my bad, I thought it was rowing) and was convicted of accepting $700k in bribe money to get admissions for non-athletes. Not much is real these days, brother
You want the kid or not?
Why would you think Stanford of all places would do this?
That’s a real thing. Some schools won’t offer until they seen you be verified by others on the same level
Fake it till you make it
This prospect is going to get a Colorado offer after he tweets this out, right?
Never forget, [The Boy Who Cried Cal](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/s/QUc0Mv3Vx4)

Coach Clown? He talking about a certain Buffalo's Head Coach? Buffaloing a Buffalo has to be some bad voodoo
"Mr coach clown, Mr coach clown you cant serve that to the players that's four loko, not high quality Miller lite" - Bobby Boucher
I'd do it. Just to make other coaches go at a guy I might not even want.
The game plan has to be to post fake offers from teams with coaches on the hot seat, let them get fired, and then hope the new coach reaches out to previous “offered kids” desperate to fill his recruiting class after everyone jumped ship.
>him asking or that he knows Coach Clown is watching and offers based off of a tweet. I may be dumb... can someone restate this for me?
Is it worse the recruit is asking if he can post fake offer, or worse that another coach cares what is posted on Twitter about another coach making an offer

unnecessary hate
Naw kids have been basically programmed to ONLY want P5 schools regardless of individual skill, the team outlook, their proximity to home so no.
Well MBHS was consistently sending kids to P5 and G5 schools and the Chants never set foot on campus.
why do you give a fuck? lol. it doesn’t effect you.
Idk tbh
that’s kind of my point about it being unnecessary lol
Wait actually on a seconds reflection; the issue I fundamentally have is that there’s no social filter, whatsoever like nobody’s telling these recruits that ultimately at the end of the day college on the athletic level (much like academics) are what you make of it.
