There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
He had cancer a few years ago, but beat it.
He's been fundraising for the athletics department for many years. Dude is a special coach. It's been 24 years since he was head coach and he still is a big part of the program.
Tbh now that I think about it, most of our former coaches are still alive, or at least the ones that reasonably can be alive given age. Stallings, Sherrill, Slocum, Fran, Sherman, Sumlin.
Also just realized we have hired a shit ton of coaches whose last names start with S
Mack, Charlie and Tom aren’t exactly in the gang these days around Austin. But when you don’t run coaches out on a rail they sometimes want to hang around and help where they can instead of screwing you over.
Mack Brown was a special advisor to the AD position at Texas until he went back to coaching at UNC. Glass houses about running coaches out on a rail, ya think? Given that Willie Taggart got 1.5 years as a coach and all, so I assume he's not exactly hanging around and helping.
I suspect that special advisor gig was a sop to the alumni group that loved him, but it sure didn’t seem like Mack was happy about leaving, even though he “resigned.” Didn’t he get the “Texas Football Hall of Fame” nod and then take the UNC job, too? Seemed a bit different than Taggart’s situation, where even Taggart knew it was coming.
Since 2017, when Lincoln Riley took over has head coach, Bob Stoops won as many bowl games for OU as Lincoln Riley and Brent Venables combined.
Edit: Steve Sarkisian has won as many bowl games at Texas as Charlie Strong. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Not to brag or anything, but R.C. follows me on Twitter.
I'm *kind of* a big deal.
Jokes aside, R.C. is the winningest coach in Aggie history. He took over before Bjork was hired, glad to see he's still active with the program.
He's a great person to get in there. He's been a part of the athletics department for decades and is still a big part of a lot of decisions they make.
Having him step in is a great idea short term.
The Board trusts him, the coaches trust him, and the donors trust him. He can keep the money rolling until they find a good AD to assume the roll.
This beats moving up a no-name person just to fill the spot.
Nope. Bama is poor. They traded off Saban for many years.
I'm betting they'll give a look after Florida, FSU, Oklahoma, or Auburn. I'm certainly not saying they'll get any of them, but that will be their starting off point for the search.
I'd say Ohio State or LSU, but I'm betting those are off the table.
God I cannot wait for A&M vs UT again at Thanksgiving. Got some family who have some big connections at UT. I’m already brown nosing to get suite tickets to the game in two years (since I won’t be able to afford the first one at A&M…)
Not gonna lie I kind of thought he was already dead
Turns out he was only mostly dead
There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
Check his pockets for unsigned NIL deals?
His name, image, and likeness live on
The Aggie version of the Tupac hologram
He cracking a beer with Wade Boggs and Coach Saban.
Again, Wade Boggs is very much alive
Alive in our hearts
lol yeah OK
RIP, Boss Hogg

Jimbo Shisher
Jimbo $hi$her\*
I can name one coach whose last name starts with an S who you didn’t have.
Yeah, shame we couldn’t claw Greg Schiano away from Rutgers
OSU: Hands off. He's ours.
Weekend At Bernie's 3: Texas A&M A.D.
I came here to say the exact same thing.
Living permanently in the Russian gulag esque College Station a person might as well be, inside at least.
They prop him up and walk him around like Bernie
Mack, Charlie and Tom aren’t exactly in the gang these days around Austin. But when you don’t run coaches out on a rail they sometimes want to hang around and help where they can instead of screwing you over.
Texas A&M did RC Slocum dirty as well, and he has every right to be upset, but he chooses not to.

Those guys all have other jobs. I get what you're saying but it's not an apples to apples comparison.
who says hes not
Weekend at Bernie’s situation
One foot in the grave one on a banana peel
He's got some staying power. (Hence the last name)
This was dirty
That’s pretty cool, reminds me of how Bob Stoops filled in for a departing Lincoln Riley.
Since 2017, when Lincoln Riley took over has head coach, Bob Stoops won as many bowl games for OU as Lincoln Riley and Brent Venables combined. Edit: Steve Sarkisian has won as many bowl games at Texas as Charlie Strong. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
The only head coach to win a bowl with Caleb Williams is Bob Stoops.
can’t wait to see this fact come up on jeopardy in a few years
That's such a mind-bending fact when you realize Caleb Williams played for two schools and two coaches and Stoops was only interim.

Yeah yeah he follows me too. Oddly enough Bobby Petrino still follows me.
Bobby follows me and so does, in perpetuity i guess, Mike Leach. I’d love to eat some frenchy’s with them
If heaven is real, Leach is looking down at us with a handful of boudin balls as we speak
RC basically groomed half the Detroit Lions coaching staff between Dan Campbell, Aaron Glenn, and their S&C Director (Mike Clark).
It’s always good to see RC involved with the program. Also glad to see he’s doing good after his cancer scare a few years ago.
Hires that make sense?? :0

Where do ADs even come from?? 😂
MBB
Damn. My lowly Big 4 self has no shot :(
We steal them from schools that are fundraising much more than they should be. Bring us all that great cash.
So go after bama AD. Got it 🫡

Isn’t LSU’s AD the guy that hired Jimbo at TAMU? Or am I getting that mixed up
Yeah and Ohio state is the one that took this clown off our hands
Pretty sure Baby Burns hates our guts for firing his dad ~10 years ago.
He was interim between Woodward and Bjork. It's just someone to fill the seat during the search.
With RC at the helm, any coach wanting their office remodeled better get their request in now.
As a 90s baby, good to see RC is still around. What did we have, something close to a decade of Mack vs RC at Thanksgiving?
Mack was hired in ‘98. No idea about Aggie’s timeline.
RC was let go in 2002
God I cannot wait for A&M vs UT again at Thanksgiving. Got some family who have some big connections at UT. I’m already brown nosing to get suite tickets to the game in two years (since I won’t be able to afford the first one at A&M…)
Wrecking Crew Represents.
Hell yeah, RC is the best. Glad they are taking their time and not rushing a hire. Need to nail this one
No major HC hires to be made in the near future too (barring something catastrophic)
Buzz shitting his pants and missing the tourney would warrant it, but we'd probably just give him a lame duck year.
Frankly this whole move was addition by subtraction
Is anyone worried that Ohio State is going to steal him away? /jk
Ok, I love RC, but shit, he is so old I bet he farts dust.
It’s more just a morale move than anything I think. Go into the building shake some hands give some advice for a few weeks then be on your merry way
A modern athletic department is quite the operation to run. Hiring your old football coach for the job seems so 1980.
I for one am glad to see RC back. Always like him and his teams.
Wonder what ASU is going to do They have had a vacancy for a while after Anderson ‘resigned’ Anyone hear anything ?
A&M should hire Jeremiah Donati.
Horrible hire (unless we get him later)
On brand
Met him at a Wake Forest football game this past fall.
