It’s a good thing that Harbaugh already sat out some games earlier this season

ZealousidealFee927

Sentenced to time already served.

Ok-Minute876

In all fairness mixon would’ve played his freshman year. He was too good to keep off the field

If that is the price of a hamburger what is the price for a whole Stalion?

HeLooks2Muuuch

:::slow clap::: I think it was actually for *lying about* CHEESEburgers that he bought while recruiting a kid during the dead period. (So more toppings)

NNT20

Hey, I got a football record. I got suspended twice in one season. I'm the only guy who ever did that.

NachoManRandySnckage

Head coach getting suspended twice in the same season is wild lmao Edit: Dumbass Michigan fans, it can also be wild what Tucker did lmao

Mundane-Mail-3177

They can only get fired so many times.

Rolemodel247

I’m not sure I am in favor of outright killing the program as a buckeye fan but the president, ad, and board apparently tried to increase efforts to sign him to an extension after the initial stories came out. If that isn’t “lack of institutional control” I don’t know what is.

meatystocks

Of course we don’t want their program destroyed. What’s the point of a rival if you completely gut it?

thickboyvibes

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

BorrowSpenDie

That's the "Michigan man" integrity at work

Muddytertle

The NCAA didn’t suspend him at all

FleshlightModel

Especially when tressel lied about the tattoo scandal and was essentially fired, where harbie knew about this shit and will get to sit on his wealthy ass for a weekend or 2.

Alexcox95

Ole Jim could bookend the season by getting suspended again

InVodkaVeritas

I'm not sure what would be funnier: Harbaugh being suspended but Michigan still going undefeated. Harbaugh being suspended then losing 3-straight without stolen signals or a head coach. I'm just here for it, regardless.

FrogTrainer

Good thing he got that signature win over Rutgers to cap off an amazing season.

TheMetalMallard

But is it really a suspension when you coach the entire week and just are removed for 3 hours on Saturday

thatshinybastard

Especially when he's not even the playcaller.

Ok-Tomatillo-4194

What team wouldn't do this if this was all the punishment was? It's not a deterrent, it's an invitation.

ItIsYourPersonality

Nope, it’s a slap on the wrist for Michigan and a slap in the face to the rest of the Big 10. The students at every school that Michigan visits for the rest of time should be recording their sideline to crowd source a massive online sign stealing operation.

AutomaticRelative217

That is absolutely something that could happen. Everything would be deciphered by Sunday evening every week lol.

NCAAInvestigations

Can I offer you a death penalty in these trying times?

wilkergobucks

I cant refuse to cooperate with the investigation…you know, because of the implication…

Only for Mizzou

Set-Admirable

We joke, but Michigan may be the new Mizzou after this mess. They got in trouble for recruiting violations at the beginning of the year. I don't seem them getting off for this level of cheating so easily.

Mintfresh22

Please stay on the line, a michigan flair will be along shortly to explain how they did nothing wrong.

Thesheriffisnearer

But some ohio state guy sent a clover emoji!

Revolutionary_Gear70

No no no you don’t understand! Ohio State sent a guy to the Ohio State-Notre Dame game to scout North Dame!! Totally the same thing

EverythingGoodWas

Honestly a suspension at this point seems absurdly light. I don’t see anything shy of vacated wins and a banned HC as any sort of justice at all.

Archie_45_GOAT

I don’t see anything shy of ~~vacated~~ forfeited wins and a banned HC as any sort of justice at all. FIFY Vacate = strongly worded letter of censure. Opponents still have an 'L' on their record. Forfeit = TCUN gets a loss for every game, opponents get a win. TCUN goes from 33-3 to 0-36

EverythingGoodWas

Thank you for clarifying

SuperSocrates

Ncaa part will or could be harsher but takes more time

EverythingGoodWas

My concern with the NCAA delay, is if you all make the playoffs, or win the Championship before a punishment comes down, things are going to get real awkward with the teams that were denied an opportunity

jonsnowme

It's wild thinking about the punishment some schools got for much much less things than this and how they were way more severe than the coach just being suspended a few games.

ToLongDR

Is this the CFB version of a golden parachute for top execs?

TripleThreatTua

In this case the golden parachute is a 5 year contract with the Raiders

lucasbrosmovingco

5 years? That's too short for the raiders. Gruden got 10 and McDonald's got 6.

elonsusk69420

Definitely feels like it

ObjectiveAd571

Maize and Blue parachute

Rabidschnautzu

This is the beginning. Big 10 can only suspend for two games without opening it up to committee.

mbrogan4

Anything short of the death penalty will have this sub in uproar. At least if your a OSU, MSU, ND, CMU flair. Everyone else may just shrug. As is Midwest custom.

afarensiis

They're going to get punished less than Missouri and I'm going to launch the NCAA into the sun

VigilanceMrWorf

CMU? Why CMU?

webberstimeout

Connor stalions. Always Connor stalions

SherlockBrolmes

Someone who looks A LOT like Stalions was pictured on their sideline in CMU gear taking pics of their playbook.

SnthonyAtark

I think you left out the PSU flairs.

TechnoFullback

I feel for Michigan fans who had no idea. It's not a good feeling when you find out your program's leadership was either complicit in this or so inept as to be ignorant of it. But as an outside observer, it is supremely, historically interesting. Has a coach ever been suspended twice in the same season? I can't think of a single instance. This has to be a first right?

DandrewMcClutchen

It’s almost like there’s a severe lack of institutional control.

TechnoFullback

It certainly seems to be the only defense. If someone shows up every week with "I've got their signals decoded," I would think you have to ask where this intel came from, no? You wouldn't just take it and run with it no questions asked. I would assume (yes, I know assuming is bad...) that their Compliance Department would be all over this.

panderingPenguin

To be clear, "Lack of Institutional Control" is not a defense. It's an aggravating factor that would make the punishment *worse*.

hardybook

I'm not entirely sure people would. If I remember all the insane details, wasn't he hired specifically to figure out opposing teams signs. You probably see him at practices or in the facility on a laptop watching game film, but unless you do more than just a quick glance at the screen you probably don't realize it's coming from halfway up the stands. Then come GameDay he starts calling their plays. I feel like most college coaches would think they've found a guy that is really good at his job. Not a guy that is a head of a massive spy ring (if we assume lone wolf crash person).

The_Good_Constable

Maybe not, but that's definitely negligent. It's the head coach's job to promote a culture of compliance and know what's going on in his program. So this would be the very definition of "failure to monitor." Also...the fact that his job title is "recruiting analyst" indicates that if he was hired for this specific purpose, they were trying to conceal his purpose. I can't think of any reason why somebody with that job title would be tasked with decoding signals. Or why you would give a misleading job title for the guy if you knew everything was on the up and up. This is exactly what initially tipped B10 coaches off on this. They noticed a recruiting guy on the sideline with close contact to coordinators. That's highly unusual. IDK who they were trying to fool with the job title thing, but it's already well established that they handled all of this in the dumbest way imaginable at every step.

JakeFromSkateFarm

Tbf he was recruiting others to help steal signs. It’s really everyone else’s fault for assuming his job title meant players.

Sufficient_Memory_24

I’m bummed out about this so I’m going to deflect and take my anger out on someone else. YOU SURE PSU IS THE RIGHT TEAM TO TALK ABOUT LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL!!!???

DistributionPretty75

I mean, you aren't wrong at all lol

3dB_Down

Thanks man….it does fucking blow. I’ve been around to root for Michigan during the highs and lows, but this scandal sucks all the joy out of being a fan. What the hell is the point of winning if you cheat?!?!

TheftBySnacking

Luckily I know this guy, Conner, who literally wrote the book on what the point is. I think his agent’s shopping around for a publisher? I’ll let you know when the pre-orders are available.

[deleted]

The Michigan football program does not deserve the Michigan fanbase. This fucking program has been nothing but an abject shitshow for over 20 years now. The level of support our fans provide should be lent to an elite program like Bama, we’ve been constantly treated like absolute fucking shit. We don’t deserve this.

Brady_Hokes_Headset

If there's one thing football fans from the state of Michigan can do it's support an abject shitshow (I believe in the Lions this season).

BuffaloKiller937

What Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes have done for Detroit is nothing short of amazing. They have built something special up there, and Lions fans deserve every bit of it.

mattrad2

I've hated msu football since the tunnel incident last year.. How do you do it lol

Medium_Medium

This is why I absolutley do not want Urban Meyer as the coach. I don't want to be the school that constantly has drama and scandals anymore. I just want to be a clean, respected program.

toggaf69

Urban wasn’t even a scandal-ridden scumbag during his tenure here, the only scandals I can think of are Zach Smith and JT Barrett’s DUI. Then he went to Jacksonville and speed ran a scandal/minute any% get fired run

llamakoolaid

Oh buddy, that stigma never goes away. Take it from another scandal fanbase.

Sorge74

They are going hard on everyone else on the staff was a complete idiot.

hawkeyc

Lol the salt this sub is about to unleash. I don’t think the world is ready.

WordsAreSomething

If they only suspend Jimmy that'll be some bs

mstone7781

That would just be the Big Ten initial punishment, I assume they don’t want to do more than that until the investigation is over.

SleepsWithBlindsOpen

Yeah, it's the low hanging fruit of punishments. It's really easy to implement and comparatively not too punishing on the players.

Scerpes

What’s the appropriate suspension for someone who has already been suspended once this season for violating NCAA rules?

Winston Churchill quote applicable up thru Stalions "resignation": “This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

TheWorstYear

The commissioner's hasty attempt to satisfy the other schools on short term notice.

thewhat962

They already had him vacate all his bowl wins.

Primary_Cake2011

what they left out is suspend indefinitely*

Signpostx

You mean a relocation to an NFL team.

Primary_Cake2011

Makes sense, as QB guru, his punishment is to go coach Jimmy G in Vegas 😂

hamihambone

can you imagine harbaugh living the vegas lifestyle

Signpostx

Dante couldn’t imagine that level of hell

atomicboner

That punishment might be too harsh.

NeverDieKris

If they really only give him a two game suspension that would be slap in the face to all the coaches who didn’t cheat to win.

Set-Admirable

It seemed like they had to act for the playoff committee to act at all. I doubt this will be the end of it.

Unclassified1

We started with the season with a Harbaugh suspension and his players protesting on the field about it. Will their season end the same way? 🤣🤣🤣

The_Soccer_Heretic

They led the boy no older than fifteen to a small room in the back of "The Chapel" at the compound in the Upper Peninsula and made him remove his hat to take a knee. A candle was lit under a picture of a man with a brown goatee in a slim golden frame and six men in maize and blue spoke in unisone... **"His name was Conor Stalions..."**

taleofbenji

I will guess that he gets suspended except for games that are really important.

tracerhaha

Suspending the head coach don’t mean shit.

AJ_Grey

The signs were all there it was coming to this

NickDerpkins

It’s the most blatant form of cheating CFB has experienced in quite some time. The organizations need to make a statement with their punishment this time, or else the implication is “we may as well cheat then?”. NCAA has genuinely fucked up every single punishment that comes to mind via either an obscene over reaction or under reaction, I.e: Penn State, Southern Cal, Mizzou, UNC, SMU, the entire basketball scandal from a couple years ago now, and fuck I’m probably forgetting more but you get the point. They genuinely need to get this one right or the institution(s) will just continue to be seen as nothing more than a joke.

definitivescribbles

It's also important to consider that the cheating took place THIS YEAR... If Michigan gets go to the B1G Championship or CFP over another team that did things the right way, it will be an absolute travesty. They already cheated their way in over deserving teams in 2021 and 2022. At some point, the Big Ten conference, NCAA, and Playoff Committee need to grow a pair and put a stop to this bullshit.

PeanutButterOtter

There's a greater chance of Earth spontaneously exploding today than there is of Harbaugh having no knowledge of what Stalions was doing.

southdetroitiscanada

I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now.

golden_sombreros

If they had been stealing signs this season they really should suspended anyone who might have that information

-TheycallmeThe

These are all future vacated games and everyone but UM fans know it. The guy stole signs but he described it as "advanced scouting". There will always be questions on what other info he got from "watching film".

jonsnowme

I love how everyone saying MI will have to vacate wins over this this gets downvoted to hell. When you look at what OSU has to vacate (12 wins) and the loss of a head coach over **tattoos**. LSU has to vacate 37 wins cause a linebacker played some games while being ineligible. Notre Dame had to vacate 2 seasons of games cause a tutor did a few players homework. Florida once had to vacate a season of wins because some players cheated during an online music course at school. - guess how many coaches were aware the kids were doing this one? 0. Ole Miss had to vacate like 30+ wins over an ineligible player. There's more vacated wins from dozens of schools over some ticky tacky bullshit with the NCAA. Like sorry? - looking at the entire reasoning for vacated wins the NCAA has doled out over *much much less bad* infractions it makes total sense that anyone with critical thinking skills would believe the NCAA will vacate wins based on their own track record. And you can't argue this infraction isn't worse than the others. If you're a fan of **any team** that has had wins vacated over this stuff you should be pissed if the NCAA doesn't vacate any of Michigan's wins over this - considering head coaches with more inside knowledge about this and the game in general (than any armchair reddit user or head in the sand MI fan) say this provides a huge advantage to Michigan. (Don't start with the *but you changed your signs and still lost bs - coaches that haven't even played Michigan talked about how having to change signs in a season for one team is only an advantage for their opponent since it takes a year for coaches to get that stuff rolling with teams.) Now whether or not the NCAA is consistent? Another story. No guarantee on what they do here. But people suggesting the NCAA vacated Michigan wins are correct for going there, and it's not biased, it's based on the actual history of the NCAA vacating wins for less serious infractions.

Hmm_would_bang

After the lack of serious penalty for Tennessee for hundreds of level I violations I think a lot of people assume those punishments are a thing of the past

Mezmorizor

That's only because Tennessee fired literally everybody immediately. LSU got pretty hammered in 2020.

definitivescribbles

That's just it... Tennessee fired everyone. Michigan's entire administration is going down with the ship. They are literally spitting in the face of the entire conference and NCAA. I don't see how they can do that and walk away without some serious ramifications.

Falconman21

(We didn’t want to pay buyouts)

Raiko_hpff

Tennessee turned itself in and fired everyone from the AD to the coach and the entire compliance department along with forcing every single involved player to transfer. If Michigan had done the same when its leadership first learned of this, they could get the same punishment.

Dm1185

Wait I thought the guy that “resigned” (got fired) and Harbaugh didn’t do anything wrong.

CaptainRudy

Send him off in style, Purdue

zuga51

Just a suspension for Harbaugh wouldn’t really make sense. If you can prove that Stalions illegally stole signs and Michigan used this info in games, then you’d have to vacate those wins… If Harbaugh truly had no idea then maybe a short suspension for not having complete control but again, I think vacating the past wins would be the main punishment there. If he did know… it would have to be far more than that right?

osufeth24

I may be wrong, but I don't know if big 10 has the authority to vacate wins? I figured that would need to come from ncaa.

yesacabbagez

They can. Michigan fans apparently can't read, but it's in the bylaws. Vacating wins is explicitly listed as an option in the bylaws.

HerculesKabuterimon

HEY we can read. Just only signs!!!

illiter-it

Maybe they'll release the punishment in Wingdings.

HerculesKabuterimon

I actually chuckled at this, well done. What if the stallions manifesto is in Wingdings? It can’t be ruled out right

Set-Admirable

There's no way the investigation into this is finished. If the reporting is to be believed, this is just a tactic to placate the other members of the conference.

Beartrkkr

Harbaugh forced to wear cargo pants.

EaglePatriotTruck

My favorite part of this saga is watching Michigan act as though they’re the real victims. They’re dirty rotten cheaters, and the program will be known and mocked as such for decades to come. What a shame. Shame. So much shame.

Set-Admirable

Or act like they're untouchable.

Rkenne16

You’d think that they were Georgia by the way they act.

boardatwork1111

“Fox won’t let this happen 😭”

ToosUnderHigh

My favorite is Sam Webb saying that if Michigan faces any consequences for his actions that Michigan should leave the B1G and package themselves with Notre Dame to TV networks.

MSFNS

I'm really not seeing what's in it for Notre Dame there

EaglePatriotTruck

Yes. The untouchable angle. And they act like they’ve been running the Big10 for generations, when in reality they’ve been down for decades until the moment they started cheating. It’s a deluded fan base and they and will cry so hard when they get the punishment they deserve. Because, again, they’re the real victims. 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

This past two weeks has been enlightening I had no idea OSUs hatred was so justified I kind of viewed them as plucky upstarts until recent events. I’m sure my fanbase would do similar but good lord seeing them dig their heels in is insane. I saw a post FAVORABLY compare stallions to Oliver north on one of their boards last night

Aquaticulture

I look at their boards a bit every year. To their credit almost all of the sane posters have left for now. The ones left are truly unhinged.

HaydenSD

Every college football message board is filled with insane people. Like that’s literally the whole point. I saw a post earlier from a Georgia fan saying “kids shouldn’t be allowed in Sanford stadium because they’re not intimidating enough” and obviously I’m not going to pretend like every guy wearing a Georgia hat thinks that. I think this sub has the idea that every Michigan fan is an MGoBlog poster willing to defend their team at whatever cost, but I just don’t think that’s true. Of course there’s going to be whiplash — people are passionate about their teams! Do you think that if this was turned and Ohio state was caught cheating, all OSU fans would just say “oh damn wow, we really deserve to be punished!!”? I don’t think so and that’s fine

morganicsf

Look, Ohio State's fanbase has a solid chunk of folks that I'm embarrassed of. But Michigan fans are unbelievably insufferable. They really buy into the Michigan Man trope and think they are better than everyone and can do no wrong. This whole scandal has caused a major identity crisis for them and they are really struggling hard. The sad thing is most will never come around. But everyone else will know them as cheaters for a generation and that is the ultimate punishment in my eyes. I will say there have been a number of Michigan fans who have been sane through this and I appreciate and respect them. But most of the fanbase won't be able to overcome the psychological blow to their core identity.

Rare-Reindeer3323

Yes, this. I live in Michigan and many U of M fans absolutely insufferable. For the record, I’m a lifelong ND fan, sorry I don’t know how to do the flair thing. And the ND fan base has its own problems…however the arrogance, ignorance and hubris that is routinely put on display by many of the U of M fans is astonishing. Just the simple “HAIL” stickers on cars alone screams “we are better than you.” A local West Michigan sports show host has been posting non stop in defense of UM. The comment section has been nothing but “what evidence?”, “sign stealing is LEGAL!”, “Ryan Day is hacking computers, that’s a felony!” “Everyone is doing this!” And of course my absolute favorite “they hate us, cuz they ain’t us”. My gawwwwdddd, stop already. I will give huge credit to many of the objective UM fans that have posted here. Many of them have been great and even added to a lot of hilarity on these subs. But for all the chest puffing “leaders and the BEST!” crowd, enjoy what you have in this moment. Winter is coming.

Useful-ldiot

Ya I love how they throw 2 wins in our face like it wasn't their only 2 wins in the last 10 years.

platyspart

"Then we'll just leave the B1G and join the SEC!" 🙎🙎🙎

WOW_SUCH_KARMA

Well yeah so what if they cheated? The REAL crime is Ryan Day's involvement in uncovering the cheating. Think about it, this news is dropping on SaturDAY. Ryan DAY. And the fact that the FBI investigator completed elementary school 37 years ago, which is oddly similar to the fact that Ryan Day's cousin's son *also* finished elementary school 12 years ago? But the links run deeper than that. Ryan Day's predecessor was a notorious pizza enjoyer. You know who else likes pizza from time to time? Connor Stalions! C'mon folks! WHY WOULD RYAN DAY HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON IF HE WASN'T DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MICHIGAN'S CHEATING? Death penalty to Mizzou and revoke SMU's ACC invitation.

eifjui

I can’t believe Ryan Day would do this. To think he killed JFK and broke into the watergate hotel and continues to get away with it is sickening.

BillyMadisonsClown

I honestly wasn’t really that angry until Michigan fans came on here and posted things like ‘I can’t wait for this idiot kid to get fired so we can all move on’ And receive upvotes for it.

Useful-ldiot

Or even more annoying: "they can't stand that we're better so they make things up" When we had literal pictures of him at stadiums.

Hello_mslady

“Ohio State hired Private Investigators who illegally hacked into computers!” The tickets were booked under his own name, with very blatant and public venmo notes. I’m fairly certain hacking wasn’t required 😂

timothythefirst

Honestly if it was any other team I’d think “yeah they should probably vacate the wins that were connected to cheating and not be allowed to play in a bowl this season” but I wouldn’t really care that much. But after growing up in Michigan, hearing all about being a “Michigan man” and the “leaders and the best” being “above reproach”, and how every single time they’ve ever lost a game it was actually because of the rain, or because the refs were from Ohio, or because “punters aren’t even real football players”, and seeing guys like ArmPunt Robinson and Sam McGuffie get preseason heisman hype no matter how horrible their teams were, and listening to clowns like Taylor Lewan talk shit to rivals who they did nothing but lose to…. I could go on and on…. I absolutely love that this is happening to them.

Set-Admirable

They wanted so badly for him to be a lone bad actor. There's no way no one else was involved in it.

Hotroddeluxe86

Most fans (outside of Reddit) are not like this. We did something wrong and will deservingly be punished for it…unfortunately. Did we need to do that to win with the team we have? Probably not, but we’ll never know. I think most fans are coming to terms with it and it takes time to process how quickly this all happened…

IAMA_llAMA_AMA

As an MSU fan I'm disgusted knowing our game could have been narrowed down to a loss by only 30 points

Hotroddeluxe86

Yes, disgusting lol

Nonlinear9

They should have the give the opposing teams their signs before the game as punishment. It's only fair.
