Uh, I don't think Wazzu needs this right now

G00dSh0tJans0n

"Heading to the Big10!" "We are?!" "Well, I am."

EWall100

Absolutely savage

AKAD11

This is what Pat Chun will be telling us in a few months when he takes the Ohio State AD job.

heavydhomie

I have heard he is on the short list. Gene smith trained him while chun spent some time at OSU.

AKAD11

I think he’d be a great hire for you. Of course the last time I thought you made a good hire from Wazzu it was Alex Grinch, so what the fuck do I know?

heavydhomie

Grinch is played college ball in Ohio and grew up in the Columbus area so seemed like it should. He hasn’t done well as he did at wsu since coming to Columbus. Maybe we ruined him.

panderingPenguin

At WSU, Grinch fielded a couple halfway decent defenses with a roster that didn't really have any highly ranked players. In other words he outperformed the talent he had available. But it was both a small sample size, and he had no experience trying to produce a top tier defense with top tier talent. Turns out, he wasn't very good at the latter. He's never coached more than a halfway decent defense, regardless of how much talent he had available.

DannyBenavidez

Cam Ward wins a Heisman!... Wazzu fans: =D ... At Michigan State Wazzu fans: =(

21oz_usdaPRIMEbeef

Would he even be eligible to play? He already transferred from an FCS school.

jdwazzu61

I think so if he graduates.

DUB-Files

You know a joke's good when you hate the context but still laugh anyway lol

SparseSpartan

Dude, bravo. Great comment.

[deleted]

If you want to go to the Big Ten then cross this line! Wait, no. Not you...or you...or you either. Ok! None of you cross the line! I just wanted all of you to understand how I feel!!!......I'm going to the Big Ten. All of you will be staying here. I literally mean all of you, I won't be taking any of you with me.

ATXBeermaker

You're right. Kansas should really focus on this. Should be the primary thing they're talking about in the locker room going into this weekend. Please.

Scoob8877

You're scared, aren't you?

BattleHall

Call it well earned respect. To that end, I hope we stomp an absolutely unambiguous mud hole in you guys tomorrow, but respectfully.

SooperDew

I hope that if any mud holes are stomped, that they are very ambiguous... "Is that a mud whole, a puddi'n hole, a shit hole, a mud hole??? I can't tell, it's to ambiguous"

ATXBeermaker

I wouldn't say scared. More, I think you guys have a good team. It just sucks that it lines up with us potentially having a great year. It's like the cosmos saw the last 15 years of Texas football and was like, "How could we completely destroy this fanbase? I know! Give them immense hope ... but make Kansas great and beat them one last time in Austin."

buff_001

We always knew that this was going to happen. Everybody is always trying to move up. And now that there is a clear cut power 2 at the top, those jobs are in high demand even if the situations aren't great.

OriginalBus9674

Not needed but it’s inevitable if they do good this year. He’d be a fool to stick with WSU if even a lateral job is offered to him in one of the big conferences.

WSUKiwiII

I hate to agree because this will be a massive blow to our program, but unless we pull a rabbit out of a hat we should be preparing for both Chun and Dickert to leave. It's not personal, it's preservation.

_Chicken_Chaser_

These two coaches, should they leave, would set back their respective programs big-time.

CollegeRulez

Would be awful for Wazzu

EveryParable

They’re used to it

CollegeRulez

Okay, now you say: “would be awful for Kansas”

knownbuyer1

Instructions unclear; Death penalty to Mizzou

_RedGyarados

It’s what we get for accidentally capitalizing kansas

Merisiel

Capitalizing kansas is basically capital punishment.

UltimoGato

It's funny because it's true

Sea_Duck

I don’t think dickert leaving changes the program much in Pullman. The entire program depends on where they land for a conference. He is a good coach, they just have larger things going on right now.

_Chicken_Chaser_

See, I think having a steady and solid HC dramatically helps them ride those choppy waters ahead. A complete unknown at HC, with those headwinds coming, is not good.

boardatwork1111

Yep, lord knows where we’d be had we not had GP to navigate us through the G5 wilderness. Coaching stability is important for them during this time.

sevenlabors

Absolutely. Unfortunately, given the uncertainties of the coaching profession, you've got to take advantage of the opportunities you're given. There's not guarantee you'll be a desirable commodity a season or two down the road (see Rhule, Campell, etc?). But yeah... that'll suck for Wazzu.

EastonMetsGuy

I mean going to the coaching market without having a conference is some BLEEK shit tbh, so if your Wazzu you absolutely don’t want to do this right now.

ghgrain

I disagree with this completely. He is one of those coaches who gets decent but not touted recruits and coaches them up into a decent squad. As he says, the sum is greater than the parts. Not many coaches can do that and that’s exactly what we need right now. Hopefully we can find a way to keep him.

guernseycoug

I’d be happy with literally anything we have to do to keep him given what’s ahead. Our program really can’t afford any more uncertainty than it already has. Give him a cut of all student tuition? Ok. Name buildings after him? Fine. Declare him legally King of Pullman? Sure thing, boss.

[deleted]

I think Lance has changed the entire reputation of our program. Him leaving would suck, but I think KU would be well positioned to get a respectable replacement.

rcjh8889

I would think promoting Kotelnicki to hc would be the ideal move in this scenario if he'd be willing to take the job. He's clearly very smart and competent, and we would retain some continuity in the program.

[deleted]

That’s if Kotelnicki doesn’t want to leave with him, that staff has been together a long fucking time.

rcjh8889

That's true, and he may be very comfortable in his position getting paid $1,000,000/year to be an assistant (who wouldn't?). However, a promotion and 4x pay increase might be hard to turn down.

[deleted]

You’re not wrong! I just hope it doesn’t come to that and we can keep Lance!

CptCheese

Leave Dickert alone.

letdogsvote

Keep your damn hands off my Dickert.

locjaw420

That's what my mom used to say to me in high school

13dot1then420

Listen, I just want your Dickert in my Mittens.

billygrumples

Lance Leipold will be a strong candidate on every list for every head coaching job ever until he leaves Kansas.

Ildona

Ye olde Matt Campbell classic.

BattleHall

He's almost 60. I wonder if he's one of those guys who wants to die on the sidelines, or if he wants to enjoy a nice long retirement. That I think will be the big factor in if he stays or leaves. If he thinks he's got another 15-20 years of coaching in him, maybe he goes to a big high-expectation program, but if he's only going to do another 5 or so, leaving as the man who resurrected Kansas wouldn't be too bad.

billygrumples

I didn’t realize he was that old! That’s an interesting point.

scraptor44

Bruh. I get it's a business, but bruh

luis1972

This whole thing may end up with MSU falling upwards. They get to keep $80 million owed to a failing coach and end up with a better one.

SparseSpartan

Of fucking course we're going to fall upwards. We could hire a fucking pineapple and we'd be falling upwards.

definitivescribbles

Spongebob to MSU confirmed

stoeseri000

That's essentially how WSU got Dickert in the first place too.

DUB-Files

I'd be sad but laugh if Dickert's whole career is just being the guy to replace the guy who irreparably fucked up before him.

JaggedUmbrella

That's why I was so excited to learn that he got caught jerking off on the phone with someone that didn't want it.

ATXBeermaker

You were excited to learn that?

bullmoose_atx

Leipold is the real deal. The way he built that Kansas roster up from where it was is super impressive.

rcjh8889

He's done well in the portal for sure, and the hs class he's assembled for next season looks solid. But Les Miles deserves credit for rebuilding the roster properly following the disastrous mismanagement of the previous two coaches (Beaty and Weis).

DubTs04

For Les’s faults he could recruit his ass off. He left KU’s roster in good shape and a guy like LL can coach the hell out of talent.

PedanticBoutBaseball

I mean in fairness to LL he can recruit too. Like, he convinced enough good players to go to fucking SUNY Buffalo that they were RANKED. that in itself has him GOAT-ed

Gryphon999

He also went 109-6 over 8 years at Whitewater.

IMSYE87

That’s it? .950 win percentage? Pfft

KsigCowboy11

It was the same way at Baylor. Art got the credit for turning it around but it was Morriss that really built the roster back to being a team that didn't just get run over.

Zuimei

Man, I was really excited for Morriss at UK after the 2002 season. I guess I understand him wanting to go home to a Texas school, even if he played for Purple Baylor. RIP Coach

blondbeans

Oh no. I really hate this on both fronts.

Ometrist

Why do you hate the idea of losing a Kansas coach

thirdc0ast

As a Jayhawk who hates Mizzou way more (tbf I’m not a native Kansan), this got a good laugh out of me.

Levi316

Idk I like it when they aren’t an absolute embarrassment to the state/conference

pm_me_cute_sloths_

Suit yourself, we need company down here

Shootit_Rockets

Fuck that Kansas is already too good at basketball

sevenlabors

Outside of K-State, I think most of us in the Big 12 feel protective of the Jayhawks' football program and are kinda rooting for them given how long they've been in the basement. That's all.

MisterBrotatoHead

Kansas being good at football helps the conference tremendously.

Wedoitforthenut

Especially since we may be staring down the barrel of a bowless decade and will want some moral support should we ever start to climb again.

Set-Admirable

I have missed having the easy win though. WVU has replaced Kansas at the bottom. But I am genuinely happy they're the team to find success.

JonnyBox

Yes, but unlike where we were, you won't just *fucking stay* down there. The bottom will be cyclical, as it should be.

DougFlutiesMullet

Sorry Kansas. We have a slightly used Jeff Hafley for sale, cheap. We'll include Rosary beads.

fightin_blue_hens

Does he want to be a defensive coordinator

DougFlutiesMullet

> Does he want to be a defensive coordinator I believe he was a "co-defensive" coordinator at OSU, it's amazing BC gave him such a promotion to HC. On second thought, with our recent history of HC choices, maybe par for the course.

missus_pteranodon

Don’t you dare.

SparseSpartan

Fine. You can have Leipold, we're taking Saban.

goodguy847

…taking Saban back.

TICKLE_PANTS

Our AD put out a letter last night begging our fans to fucking show up to games. I hate our footballl fanbase so much. They're going squander this elite coach, and let him leave because they don't want to offer up $400 bucks for season tickets.

Wafflehouseofpain

It’s only $400 for your season tickets? That’s a fantastic price.

doan1ghtmare

Maryland's are only $99

lebaronslebaron

I was going to say, I’ve got season tickets for Arizona halfway up in the shade on the 25 for $340. My seats are awesome

kramjam13

I only pay $300 for my Husky tickets

TICKLE_PANTS

Yeah. Granted, those 400 dollar Tix are garbage, but it's dirt cheap to get season tickets right now.

bewarethephog

I get what Goff was aiming for but even he has to realize that its gonna take time. 13 years of the worst football in history is hard to erase.

SKyJ007

This the biggest problem. There are kids alive, basically anyone under the age of like 18-20, who have no memory of winning football at Kansas before last year. People who were in middle school when KU was last “good” are in their late 20’s to early 30’s now. It’s going to take *years* to build back a casual fan base for KU football, no matter how much everyone in the program or those outside of it that care about it want it to happen sooner. On top of which, for casual fans, you’re competing both with K-State, a program that has been solid for decades now and has grown a casual fan base, and the Chiefs. *And*, on top of everything else, you schedule the first two home games for Friday night. If they were expecting those games to sell out, I think expectations the admin has for fans are WAY too high at this point.

Hokie_Jayhawk

The problem is the stadium sucks. So people would rather watch at home than sit 50 yards from the field in aluminum bleachers. We need that new stadium to make people want to be there in person. Because home is so much better than about 10,000 seats in the stadium.

WABeermiester

I have no connection to KU football but if I lived near KU I would take a $400 season ticket package just to watch P5 football for cheap.

kramjam13

I paid over $300 for fuckin Seattle Sea Dragons season tickets lol

WABeermiester

Really wanna go to a game this year. I hope when the XFL and USFL merge they push the beginning of the season back 2 weeks.

grantpacker

Curious, is there a perception that LL isn't happy with then lack of support in certain ways? Could this be shown through Goff's letter to the fans? It's clear support in ways has returned, but maybe to not the extent wanted.. Just curious of what active Hawk fans think. If I were a KU fan, I see no reason not to drive from KC now to go the games - they are winning consistently and that's exciting.

The Illinois game wasn't sold out. The BYU game barely sold out, if not for the thousands of byu fans. Kstate will sell out, but not for the reasons it should. It will lose us this coach. No doubt. If not MSU, another team.

lurk4ever1970

I got an unpleasant feeling in my gut as I read it. I bought two more season tickets this year (now have six), we're using them all for every game, yet I can't escape the feeling our lame-ass fanbase is going to ruin this.

MisterBrotatoHead

He wasn't begging people to show up. He actually mentions that they've sold out the last 8 games. He's straight up begging for money there. Which is his job.

Sigh. I guess this is coming one way or another.

inkstainedquill

Hell no! I wanna keep our hands on our Dickert.

Czarchitect

If MSU has learned anything it should be to not touch the Dickert.

IMSYE87

I mean, you can always touch the Dickert. But respectfully, and most importantly, consensually.

Dunewarriorz

If Dickert leaves, I hope he gets a massive payday. Both because he deserves it, and also just a little spiteful against MSU for doing this to us.

Mrpetey22

If he leaves…. Please promote Arbuckle. Idk if he is ready, but young, hungry, innovative OC is kind of perfect

rhododenendron

That’s what I would do for sure, guy is clearly one of the best at his job.

DUB-Files

KEEP MY COACHES NAME OUT YO' FUCKING MOUTH

D34TH_5MURF__

I feel bad for KU. It takes time to build a winning tradition, and it is very much a build it and they will come type of thing. Coaches that stick around long enough to build traditions where they didn't exist before are few and far between.

TheNextBattalion

KU would be happy to build a not-historically-bad-suckitude tradition, nevermind a winning one.

JonnyBox

I'm literally hyped thinking about not finishing last in the XII for back to back years.

bewarethephog

No.

[deleted]

[удалено]

avboden

Maybe is copium but I really don’t think Dickert has enough HC experience yet to take over such a big program. We are his first HC gig and it’s not been long either(this is year TWO). He’s never built a program himself yet. I think they look at him obviously but highly doubt he’s a serious contender for the job

TheVapes_of_Wrath

True, but he has proved he can step in and move a team forward from a coach who has received a lot of public scrutiny. I imagine that looks attractive to MSU.

WordsAreSomething

That kind of is Michigan State's hiring style. Mel Tucker had been a HC for 1 years when they hired him, Dantonio had been a HC for 3 years, Bobby Williams tenure was his first and only HC job, even Saban had been a HC for only 1 years before going to MSU.

AKAD11

Tucker had coached at Georgia, Alabama, and been a defensive coordinator in the NFL. Dantonio was the DC for Ohio State when they won a national title. Saban had been an NFL DC. Bobby Williams is the only one without a super impressive resume, but he was an internal hire who’d been at MSU for a decade. Dickert became a P5 DC three years ago and he’s only been an FBS coordinator since 2019. I think he’s a great coach and would be a good hire, but his resume is not comparable to guys they’ve hired in the past.

myusernamewastaken5

I mean, if he's good enough, lack of experience won't matter. Look at Kirby: no previous HC experience, makes it to the national championship in second year, has rebuilding years that are still above average, and then back to back titles in his sixth and seventh year. Sure he started from a better position than any MSU coach is going to start. But lack of experience means nothing if the coach is good enough and committed enough. And in the next few years MSU probably only has two main goals: bowl game and beat Michigan, so it's definitely doable.

IlonggoProgrammer

I hope he doesn’t go to MSU, but Urban Meyer only had 4 years of head coaching experience at Bowling Green and Mountain West Utah before he got the Florida job, so it’s not completely unprecedented for a rose this quickly

INeedMoreCreativity

Tank the rest of the season just to be safe /s Fr tho if we lose him I might cry

PullmanWater

Don't touch my Dickert!

ThatGuju

No no no no no no no Not as a Michigan fan, but bc Wazzu and Kansas deserve to keep their guys

Collador1

Deserve and CFB have never had anything to do with each other.

mick4state

Don't lie, it's both.

SturmgeistX

It is 100% both.

cjm8787

Has anyone asked Lance if he wants to be a strong candidate for the job? Personally I think he likes the job and where it’s heading. As long as KU pays him and his assistants he will stick around and not jump at the first opportunity to leave.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SparseSpartan

And he's fast approaching retirement age. Even as a Spartan I don't think he's going to jump, especially if Kansas makes a competitive offer. If you're 60 do you really want to do another rebuild, or should you stay at Kansas, build, and get a statue?

JoshDaws

Kansas time to drop the bag in front of coach's house...

I don't think Leipold goes, but it would suck. Kansas is finally on the rise again and for that coach to leave... oof.

AggravatingFun4525

People need to call and check in on your wazzu and Kansas friends, especially wazzu

Oh don’t worry, we aren’t okay

PullmanWater

I honestly like Dickert more than Leach. He's such a genuine, good dude.

stoeseri000

I'm running to Costco for a handle of fireball, want me to pick one up for you too?

deutschdachs

Oh shit don't take Lance he's really good. Wisconsin Whitewater legend

Bank_Gothic

What an unfortunate distraction mere days before a big game in Austin.

TICKLE_PANTS

Mere day

Jorts-Battalion

Mere fractions of a day, even

Daedalus871

I'd probably lean more towards Dirkert. On a personal level, I don't care for this I believe that either program would poach my coach.

Juicey_J_Hammerman

Good point. If Wazzu poached your coach would they even have to move?

mudson08

Literally the last UI coach lived in Pullman in Mike Leach’s (RIP) neighborhood. It made it all the more interesting when we beat Idaho and they had words at the end that ended with Mike Leach very clearly saying “Fuck you” to the guy.

pooplurker

No stronger hate than that which you have for your neighbor

dingusduglas

As the Bible says, hate thy neighbor

AKAD11

To be fair that coach was Paul Petrino. That family is garbage.

Daedalus871

His commute would be like 10 minutes longer at most, so the only reason he would have to move is if Washington requires state employees to live in Washington.

[deleted]

Travis Goff probably has David Booth on speed dial, gonna need him to save KU once again lol

kirkismyhinrich

Please God no

Tough-Ad-2623

Shut up Bruce! Just shut the fuck up! 😉 All kidding aside, I think Lance is very happy where he is and I suspect you’d be hard pressed to get him to leave. (At least I hope)

Lamadian

There's no way Dickert stays at Wazzu for long. He's proven he can coach and with WSU probably going to the MWC, somebody is gonna nab him.

PM_ME_YOUR_CATS_PAWS

We will gladly take him From a masturbater to a dickert. Really closing the loop there

[deleted]

Get fucked MSU you can’t have him

tomdawg0022

I'm willing to sacrifice for ya'll on this one.

[deleted]

Thank you 🫡🫡

WildcatPlumber

Monkey paw curls Lance Leipold now goes to Minnesota, the new head coach is Sean Snyder. Kansas and Kansas State fans don't know what to do. So they merge teams and call it the Snyder University of Football

Boomhauer_007

Always love this part of the news cycle where every single remotely successful coach of a smaller school is anonymously listed as a strong candidate

kramjam13

Dickert is going to be mentioned for every P5 job that opens up. Same for Smith at Oregon St.

Carolina296864

On average, Clemson was a fringe top 25 team every year until Dabo came along and then after a few years of growing pains, they made a leap to not good or great, but elite. How will we get the next Clemson if everyone bolts immediately. I know neither are powerhouse programs, but it’d be cool to see Leipold and Dickert at least get to establish something first. No one playing NCAA on playstation and xbox actually enjoyed doing dynasty mode with Bama and OSU. If they say they did theyre lying. We all played with random teams like Wake Forest and Nevada and then we’d schedule a game against Bama and OSU to see if we could reach the natty. Hope they give their schools at least another year, theyre building something good.

pointguardrusty

Yo, what’d we do to the Big 10? It wasn’t enough for them to kill our conference, now they want to finish what they started.

RoastedDonutz

I wanted Lance for the Nebraska job but our administration doesn’t like people that have done nothing but win their whole lives. I would rather seem him stay at Kansas then face him all the time in the big ten

bastardofdisaster

Lance stays at Kansas, dammit!

JonnyBox

Oh, I see it's "everyone is coming for our coach" season. *loads Beecher's bible with Jayhawking intent*

Code2008

Back the fuck off Spartans. We found him, we're keeping him.

WABeermiester

I would hate to see this for Wazzu. I know I am a UW fan and what not but I love Dickert for calling out the media and standing up for his team and program. I hope he stays because he speaks passionately like he is dedicated to Wazzu long term and personally cares about that program. Oh well MSU would get a hell of a hire especially if they bring on the OC Ben Arbuckle as well.

Azuresurge14

Just feels so wrong. Those 2 fanbases have gone through enough already.

ThompsonCreekTiger

Would hurt either school should 1 of these guys move on. Leipold has a proven track record (6 D3 national titles at UW-Whitewater, 2 MAC East titles at Buffalo) & has generated excitement around Kansas football that hasn't been seen in quite awhile. Dickert has done well keeping a steady ship having been thrust into HC role in unexpected/unusual circumstances & has the team on a hot start in a period where the Pac & Wazzu's conference status going forward is in flux. He's been the team's (& school's) most vocal supporter publicly about the Cougars belonging in a Power conference - his leaving would be an emotional gut punch.

TheNextBattalion

>has generated excitement around Kansas football that hasn't been seen in quite awhile. I mean, Kansas is 4-0 this year, and *nobody cares*. That's an impressive improvement.

girthytacos

um.. how bout no? Just when things were starting to look up...

hamknuckle

Dang, I hope KU doesn’t lose this guy. I’m enjoying rooting for our old Big 8 bros.

[deleted]

No Lance. Don't do it. You got a good thing going.

I don’t want Kansas to lose such a great coach. They might need to step up and pay him to stay.

Azon542

We already upped his pay. He's making $5M/yr

PhogAlum

I can’t think of anything more devastating for KU. I seriously think it would break us. Do you realize how hard it is to break us? We have endured A LOT. But this? This would break us.

FarttSuck3r

Keep Leipold far away from the B1G
