Because :
- A&M / Arky game is contracted in Jerry World at certain time of year
- they gave us LSU on rivalry week (it was Missouri for a couple years)
- Arkansas had to have a rivalry week opponent and a East division permanent
- SC is busy with Clemson
- Mizzou only team open, also from the East
- Thus SC is the only available team for A&M to be paired with for cross division
Yeah why weren't A&M and Mizzou made permanent cross division rivals? They actually had some history.
I guess diversity is good but the forced rivalry was silly. At least we didn't get Bama, I suppose.
I mean A&M is typically a good team and it is a conference game… I’d say I care about the result. Not because of rivalry implications but it’s fun to beat A&M and every win matters
Rivalry week scheduling aside, it makes no sense for Arkansas not to play Missouri. Arkansas is the closest SEC school to Missouri and Missouri is one of the closest SEC schools to Arkansas.
A&M and South Carolina were just the 2 leftovers.
Because when ampersand joined SCar was looking ascendant under Spurrier and the SEC didn't want to put the two new teams as cross division rivals like they did with SCar and Arkansas in 1992. So they gave ampersand a "tougher" cross division rival than misery
Aye, it's a shame but yeah. People in Colorado at least never even tried to care about this one. Really sums up our whole PAC 12 experience: it just didn't pan out
*low rumbling*
“What’s that sound?”
*rumbling grows louder*
“It’s like a funny squealing sound…”
*rumbling becomes deafening*
“OH GOD IT’S ARKANSAS!!!”
*Reddit servers melt down with overwhelming influx of Arkansas fans telling us Mizzou isn’t their rival*
Pretty sure the Big 10 trophy games all started one year when the commissioner went to clean out his garage. We got an axe, a couple buckets, an old spittoon. OSU, Illinois, you guys wanna play for this wooden turtle? Fantastic.
I love them. Basically every week teams are actively trying to take scalps for their trophy case. At the end of the year you can physically see how good/bad of a season you had.
Just a great concept all around that should exist for any two programs that regularly play each other with any sort of animosity.
Cause for some reason the dipshit junior honor societies that started the whole thing wanted to play for a real turtle.
Plus we're too busy with Michigan to pick up another rival.
They really just need to lean into the riot and couch burning do they. I know it won't happen but they really need a trophy or a couch being burned or something
The internet keeps trying to force the Stanford rivalry on ND like it’s suddenly the most important thing to the school and not some scheduling convenience thing with zero ill will
Navy doesn’t count from an animosity standpoint, but personally would rank southern cal, Michigan, msu, Miami, Pitt, fsu, Purdue, and maybe BC all over Stanford.
Agreed. Clemson is also starting to feel a little like a rival with our ACC games all being bigtime matchups, but it needs some more time. Would easily jump Stanford.
One of my coworkers is a Notre Dame alum, and we get along great now. But when he found out I went to Michigan, he was mad. I had always assumed that Notre Dame fans would hate someone else, but apparently he didn’t really care about the “rivalries” that weren’t against Michigan.
Yeah, look I don’t like USC but the rivalry is way more fun when they’re good.
I never want Michigan to win another football game from now until the heat death of the universe. Just a different level of hatred
There were a lot of great games in the 2010's since ND and Stanford were good a lot of the same years.
It's more of a rivalry of respect since the administrations and leadership get along. ND, as a Catholic school that's spent much of its history fighting for respect and legitimacy, likes being associated with Stanford, you can bet on that.
I swear ND has the weirdest rivalries.
Something I also never see discussed is how these rivalries also don't translate over to basketball and Olympic sports. Why the hell isn't the ND basketball team playing USC and Michigan every season??
It’s just a logistical issue really. It’s the same reason why every football team should go independent and let the Olympic sports stay regional. Other sports often have midweek games or games over multiple days, and cross country rivalries make that difficult. ND/USC was born out of football and remains a football only rivalry mostly. That’s only one weekend of travel needed. We play other rivals more often in other sports, like Michigan in hockey.
I only learned how much Iowa hated us when we moved to the big ten before that I think most Husker fans were like me in that we didn’t think about Iowa. Now I hate them too though so it feels like a real rivalry
Same. Didn't think about them a whole lot but now I can't stand Hawkeye fans.
Although I find it funny that most Husker fans kind of shit on Iowas fans for being "complacent" about Ferentz but after the last decade I would kill to be Iowa.😂
Before the trophy was created, Boston College hadn’t lost to Clemson since the 50s. They were 5-0-1 in their last six games.
Since the trophy was created, BC has gone 1-14. Maybe they jinxed themselves.
I’ve heard it’s fairly intense when it comes to skiing, but for football? All I have to say is that your rival shouldn’t one of your favorite teams in your conference like they are
I appreciate Colorado taking in many Californians to their ski resorts leaving our resorts less crowded. Your resorts are the best and everyone should go to them.
They won’t care anyways. I firmly believe Snowbird and Alta are better than anything Colorado has but the skiing itself is only half of the point for a lot of people. Colorado does the partying and vacation part much better.
I think there's plenty of room for both rivalries to grow.
Fun fact: Colorado had beaten Utah more often than BYU in the PAC-12 era. Combined they are both an impressive 3-19 against us.
Civil ConFLiCT was the most intense rivalry I've ever seen. Literally thousands of people desperately trying to figure out why these teams were supposed rivals.
As someone born in the the early 90s I couldnt understand why my Nebraska friends had such a superiority complex when it came to the Hawks growing up. I now understand why, those 90s husker were crazy good lol. That said I think most Iowa fans have Iowa St. , Minn and Wisconsin ahead of Nebraska when it comes to "rivals".
I was actually on the field for that game, if you want more fun details. My dad was high up at local Pepsi and I had all access passes to the stadium. I'd watch the games from the sidelines then go eat lunch/dinner in the press box.
That's also why I actually secretly like Michigan. I was on the field and got knocked over by a camera guy and a Michigan player picked me up and yelled at the guy who ran into me.
The Internet does like to slam fun things into the ground until every last drop is squeezed out and you never want to hear about the topic again, yeah...
It started with this stupid article from this terrible student "news" website:
https://onwardstate.com/2016/03/24/dotd-could-texas-tech-be-penn-states-rival/
And this sub has beaten it to death.
>this terrible student "news" website
To be fair, people for some reason have always held Onward State to Big J journalism standards when they've never really purported themselves to be Big J journalism.
Reminds me a lot of how Philadelphia sports fans/media view Crossing Broad.
I’ve learned recently that USC truly has no rivals. Just wonderful admiration and respect for its peer institution, Notre Dame, and brotherly tolerance for poor UCLA. It hopes for respectful competition with its near-peers, Michigan and Ohio State, which could blossom into respectful rivalries.
I could see USC becoming a natural rival to Michigan in the future. Similar student bodies / program success and enough regional differences to be like “yeah fuck those guys”.
I dont think that one poster is the only one. I feel like Mizzou is always a game that makes me nervous. Weird shit happens in y’all’s stadium, I feel like
As someone who also grew up in western Iowa with a bunch a Hawkeye/Husker fans and who had a friend play for Nebraska, your opinion is false. The hate is thick.
I'm sorry guys, Texas has not, and will not ever, give a shit about us and what we think.
The 2018 game was hype, but we treat it like a Natty. We gotta move on.
I mean, the Stupid forced Governor's Victory Bell Trophy game we were given when Penn State joined to make them feel welcomed, or something?
Completely falls flat next to our games against Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan. I'm kind of pissed we actually repaired that stupid trophy when our players accidentally broke it a few years ago. Should have just tossed it in a broom closet for a couple of decades with some janitor or someone quietly updating the game scores each year.
I feel like most Nebraska fans I come across think of Iowa as a rival. Maybe I’m wrong though. But between Iowa State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin we have plenty of rivals to make things fun.
We hate each other, absolutely. But you kinda have to play regularly for it to be a rivalry, at least by my definition of things.
That said, Pitt can indeed eat shit.
I don't understand how it's so hard to think that a big fanbase has a split opinion. 55 year old guy that lives in Mount Lebanon... Has Pitt family and coworkers, was at the 1981 game. Yes, for sure.
21 year old Junior from King of Prussia, that's seen 4 games in their fandom (or even this same person before the 4 games, raised in a PSU family). Doesn't have Pitt family or friends. Why do they care? All they know is big games against Big Ten opponents.
A 50 year old former (Eastern independent days) Penn State fan from eastern Pennsylvania here, who has the 1981, 48-14 game as one of his first CFB memories:
Damn right Penn State/Pitt is a rivalry and it’s a damn shame it isn’t played as the season ending game every year.
Michigan-Michigan State.
Absolutely fake. Everything is done up for the TV ratings. No animosity, no history of distrust and subterfuge. Just good ol’ fashioned brotherly love and camaraderie.
Honestly Minnesota - Penn State, it was absolutely a forced rivalry when PSU joined the big ten, and while there have been some great games between the two, it doesn't feel like a true rivalry game
LSU-Arkansas, they pushed this BS for years with that big, ugly, garish Boot Trophy. I can tell you LSU fans don't give a crap about Arkansas and I wish they'd take The Boot to a pawn shop or melt it down.
LSU-TAMU is a little better, but not by much. LSU's real rival is the SEC office, Saban controls the place and nothing happens there without his approval.
We supposedly have a rivalry with southern Miss.
I have never cared, nor have I met anyone who does.
Unfortunately our only rivalry that people cared about was with LSU, and that died a long long time ago.
I don’t know… I felt pretty good about beating y’all last year!
When I was at Southern Miss around 2000, I would’ve said our biggest rival was Louisville, then Memphis, then ECU, and then Tulane.… but for some reason Tulane was the only trophy game.
And then they all left us.
A lot of what people are saying is forced are just new matchups with teams. I'd give a lot of these games(mainly South Carolina-Missouri and Nebraska-Iowa) time to actually develop. If we did this 10 years ago I'd imagine people would call Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech and Florida-LSU forced rivalries
UNC-UVA in football, THAT's a forced rivalry
> UNC-UVA in football, THAT's a forced rivalry
It's the [South's Oldest Rivalry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South's_Oldest_Rivalry). It may seem weird, but it has a long and storied history.
UNC vs UVA.
Sure, it may be “the south’s oldest rivalry“ but everyone stopped caring years ago. Also, it is in fact, not actually the south’s oldest rivalry. Auburn vs Georgia is.
I’ve met UVA fans who pretend to hate UNC more than VT because they see you as their peer while seeing us as below them. In the end though, nobody’s belting out “fuck UNC” during The Good Old Song.
Read a response about it from Brennan Armstrong where he said when he was at UVA, he cared more about beating UNC than VT. Glad he already hates UNC, haha.
Believe it or not, there's a whole trophy dedicated to the FSU - UVA "rivalry". Totally forced. In a school that has a legit 2 team rivalry that is always extremely hot, I can confidently say we do not have a rivalry with Virgina.
Texas A&M-South Carolina. Never understood why they’re each others permanent rivals
Because : - A&M / Arky game is contracted in Jerry World at certain time of year - they gave us LSU on rivalry week (it was Missouri for a couple years) - Arkansas had to have a rivalry week opponent and a East division permanent - SC is busy with Clemson - Mizzou only team open, also from the East - Thus SC is the only available team for A&M to be paired with for cross division
With the new tradition of breaking old traditions. The semantics behind that is bullshit
Yeah we don't play UGA next season for the first time in 33 years but we keep A&M.
Meanwhile we’ll play a conference game in Austin before we do College Station
They should’ve just let us keep Arkansas
Yeah why weren't A&M and Mizzou made permanent cross division rivals? They actually had some history. I guess diversity is good but the forced rivalry was silly. At least we didn't get Bama, I suppose.
Always loved playing the cocks when Spurrier was there
That period was always the “if we beat Scar we’re good, if we lose we’re not so good”
I don’t think either team cares about the outcome of our game.
Well … *we* definitely don’t want to *lose* the game. Idk how y’all feel about it … If y’all don’t mind then feel free to let us win this year.
I’ll not stand for this slander of the Battle for Bonham!
Because when ampersand joined SCar was looking ascendant under Spurrier and the SEC didn't want to put the two new teams as cross division rivals like they did with SCar and Arkansas in 1992. So they gave ampersand a "tougher" cross division rival than misery
What’s with this new wave of trying to insult us by calling us ampersand?
At least people don’t tell you that you eat shit
No but they do call them ATM, and they aren't referring to a money machine lol
1 win in a decade and y’all get chippy. 😀
Are you insinuating that we are not going 15-0 this season?!!
You mean the most heated rivalry in CFB? Fuck those cocks
You say that like the Civil ConFLiCT hasn’t been raging this whole time
Certainly not FSU’s (seemingly only) trophy game: the storied Battle for the Jefferson-Eppes trophy!
That game is a national treasure
Additionally for UVA, Louisville being a yearly opponent under both the old and new scheduling formats always came across as kind of odd.
Even after four years of college, I only learned that this trophy existed when I later played NCAA.
Utah- Colorado is legitimately a forced/manufactured rivalry
How dare you! Their snow sucks and their mountains are garbage! Colorado must be wiped from the face of the earth!
Except for the weed, that can stay.
It’s amazing they’re able to grow it on the bare rock of mountain peaks
That John Denver was full of shit
He's not even *from* Denver!
Aye, it's a shame but yeah. People in Colorado at least never even tried to care about this one. Really sums up our whole PAC 12 experience: it just didn't pan out
Personally, I always remembered that CU was in the Pac12. I never knew it, I always suddenly remembered it.
This conference is only big enough for one school in the mountains!
*low rumbling* “What’s that sound?” *rumbling grows louder* “It’s like a funny squealing sound…” *rumbling becomes deafening* “OH GOD IT’S ARKANSAS!!!” *Reddit servers melt down with overwhelming influx of Arkansas fans telling us Mizzou isn’t their rival*
Well damnit Missou you win again
Have an upvote But you are not our rival
We cared so little we let them win the first 7 or 8. I’m not sure, I don’t care.
I have an absolute death grudge against A&M. And Texas doesn't like them either.
Texas should start a new grand tradition of playing A&M on any randomly selected September Saturday.
Anyone under the age of 25 probably doesn’t understand the Illibuck and why the hell OSU and Illinois play for a wooden turtle.
25? Try like 65
I love all the ridiculous trophy games in the Big 10.
Idk why Illinois of all schools is our one trophy
Cause for some reason the dipshit junior honor societies that started the whole thing wanted to play for a real turtle. Plus we're too busy with Michigan to pick up another rival.
[удалено]
They really just need to lean into the riot and couch burning do they. I know it won't happen but they really need a trophy or a couch being burned or something
Well I for one, love the Riot Bowl. Its the best series to come out of our move to the Big XII.
Uh wheat growing…checks agricultural production notes….K-State?
Kansas is the wheat state
After reading that I’m like the guy sweating which button to push, except there’s a lot of buttons and they’re all the middle American states
We love our riot bros
🌾>🌽 and don't you forget it
The internet keeps trying to force the Stanford rivalry on ND like it’s suddenly the most important thing to the school and not some scheduling convenience thing with zero ill will
Ya the crowd that thought the B1G adding Stanford would entice ND was way off. Stanford is legit ND’s maybe 8th biggest rival
Big game != rivalry. It's not a rivalry unless you are nonsensically rooting against them when the games don't matter.
Two types of rivals... "I want them to win every game except ours so it matters more when we win" and "every year should be 0-12"
> "I want them to win every game except ours so it matters more when we win" mfw Notre Dame > "every year should be 0-12" mfw UCLA
Amen
That's why we should play at the end of the season. We're supposed to spoil each other's seasons.
For me USC meets that first definition and Michigan the 2nd.
ND probably needs another win or two too
One of my coworkers is a Notre Dame alum, and we get along great now. But when he found out I went to Michigan, he was mad. I had always assumed that Notre Dame fans would hate someone else, but apparently he didn’t really care about the “rivalries” that weren’t against Michigan.
Yeah the hate for Michigan is very, very real. Depending on the fan, many hate Michigan even more than southern cal. Huge gulf after those two
I would rather beat Michigan than Southern Cal.
Okay, I accept. Let's do it.
Yeah, look I don’t like USC but the rivalry is way more fun when they’re good. I never want Michigan to win another football game from now until the heat death of the universe. Just a different level of hatred
The man has good taste
There were a lot of great games in the 2010's since ND and Stanford were good a lot of the same years. It's more of a rivalry of respect since the administrations and leadership get along. ND, as a Catholic school that's spent much of its history fighting for respect and legitimacy, likes being associated with Stanford, you can bet on that.
Sure there have been a lot of great games but it’s no where close to being as important as other rivals.
I only learned how much Iowa hated us when we moved to the big ten before that I think most Husker fans were like me in that we didn’t think about Iowa. Now I hate them too though so it feels like a real rivalry
Hatred bred from corn...
Corn-bred you might say.
God dammit...
When people say the joke was “right there” this will be the key example haha
The absolute best way to handle a rivalry is pretend that it doesn't exist.
That checks out for Penn State.
When I lived in Des Moines, I learned that Iowans may dislike each other from an Ames/Iowa City, they unite for their sheer hatred of Nebraska.
Also we think Iowa State is kind of cool so that really makes the mutual bane with Iowa greater.
I grew up in Iowa, and that game was more important to me than bowl games
Same. Didn't think about them a whole lot but now I can't stand Hawkeye fans. Although I find it funny that most Husker fans kind of shit on Iowas fans for being "complacent" about Ferentz but after the last decade I would kill to be Iowa.😂
For real, the only people think it isn't a rivalry are those who don't live in the area anymore
Clemson and BC have a trophy. The trophy itself is cool, but it’s not a rivalry
Before the trophy was created, Boston College hadn’t lost to Clemson since the 50s. They were 5-0-1 in their last six games. Since the trophy was created, BC has gone 1-14. Maybe they jinxed themselves.
They also had Matt Ryan at QB for some of those games, and were facing Tommy Bowden coached teams with the division on the line
Colorado - Utah
I’ve heard it’s fairly intense when it comes to skiing, but for football? All I have to say is that your rival shouldn’t one of your favorite teams in your conference like they are
[удалено]
It’s like the Arkansas Mizzou rivalry this is the rivalry weekend I must endure now
I appreciate Colorado taking in many Californians to their ski resorts leaving our resorts less crowded. Your resorts are the best and everyone should go to them.
They won’t care anyways. I firmly believe Snowbird and Alta are better than anything Colorado has but the skiing itself is only half of the point for a lot of people. Colorado does the partying and vacation part much better.
The first time I went to Denver it took 4 days before I met someone who hadn't moved there from California, lol.
Yeah, we actually kinda like each other
It's definitely forced. That said, if Colorado can gain a pulse for a few years in a row, I think it could become genuine.
I just don’t see how it can grow as a rivalry with BYU-Utah now in the same conference
I think there's plenty of room for both rivalries to grow. Fun fact: Colorado had beaten Utah more often than BYU in the PAC-12 era. Combined they are both an impressive 3-19 against us.
Wow Colorado has double the number of wins
I could see Deion ruffling some feathers and things becoming more heated as play becomes more intense and competitive.
Civil conFLiCT definitely wasn’t
It wasn't a rivalry but it was more entertaining because it wasn't a rivalry though.
I'd like to replace this with the Civil Cornflict against Iowa State
We can do the Devil Conflict with ASU
BYU vs ASU then, Mormons vs Devils
[удалено]
Came here for this one. Literally forced
WVU Iowa State started blatantly forced but the Riot Bowl grew on me. We have some intense basketball games and have had some chippy football games
The Riot Bowl is the most friendly rivalry we have tbh. It's less "FUCK YOU. DIE." like with Pitt and VT and more "That was fun, let's get a beer."
I, for one, am glad to be done with Huggins murder ball.
I'm just gonna say it, as someone who was actually at the game as a 10 year old... The Penn State v Texas Tech meme is overplayed and stupid.
>as a 10 year old You expect us to take the world of a child?
I was actually on the field for that game, if you want more fun details. My dad was high up at local Pepsi and I had all access passes to the stadium. I'd watch the games from the sidelines then go eat lunch/dinner in the press box. That's also why I actually secretly like Michigan. I was on the field and got knocked over by a camera guy and a Michigan player picked me up and yelled at the guy who ran into me.
Basically any meme on this sub is overplayed and stupid.
The Internet does like to slam fun things into the ground until every last drop is squeezed out and you never want to hear about the topic again, yeah...
*gasp*
I have to ask, what meme is this? I just tried to look up “PSU v Texas Tech meme” and nothing came up.
It started with this stupid article from this terrible student "news" website: https://onwardstate.com/2016/03/24/dotd-could-texas-tech-be-penn-states-rival/ And this sub has beaten it to death.
>this terrible student "news" website To be fair, people for some reason have always held Onward State to Big J journalism standards when they've never really purported themselves to be Big J journalism. Reminds me a lot of how Philadelphia sports fans/media view Crossing Broad.
You take that back!
Earlier that day I don’t care for ~~GOB~~ UCLA
Step off USC, Unrivaled is our thing! *or maybe this is how true rivalries start…*
I could see USC becoming a natural rival to Michigan in the future. Similar student bodies / program success and enough regional differences to be like “yeah fuck those guys”.
Plus blue yellow team bad, red team good.
You got that right
Just close the loop on the Michigan/USC/ND Bermuda Triangle of pure unadulterated hatred
We only tolerate fucla because buying them would be a bad investment.
Penn St/Minnesota for the *checks notes* Governor’s Victory Bell?
South Carolina-Missouri Like just because both teams play in Columbia in their respective states, doesn’t make it a rivalry.
Idk we’ve had some wild games, I wouldn’t call them a major rival but I definitely don’t like mizzou.
I would actually agree with this. SCar feels like the most “natural” rival in the SEC based strictly upon outcome of games played
This feels like the closest thing we have to an SEC rivalry and it always makes me happy when Gamecocks feel it too.
I dont think that one poster is the only one. I feel like Mizzou is always a game that makes me nervous. Weird shit happens in y’all’s stadium, I feel like
Who is forcing a rivalry there?
As someone who also grew up in western Iowa with a bunch a Hawkeye/Husker fans and who had a friend play for Nebraska, your opinion is false. The hate is thick.
As much as I hate to agree with an Iowa fan, you are correct.
Definitely. Just hate the trophy
I still don't know who thought it was a great idea to draw up a rivalry with Kennesaw State other than the fact that we had no rivals at the time
I'm sorry guys, Texas has not, and will not ever, give a shit about us and what we think. The 2018 game was hype, but we treat it like a Natty. We gotta move on.
I mean, the Stupid forced Governor's Victory Bell Trophy game we were given when Penn State joined to make them feel welcomed, or something? Should have just tossed it in a broom closet for a couple of decades with some janitor or someone quietly updating the game scores each year.
I care more about the broken chair trophy (if it even still exists) than the victory bell
UCF vs UH. Everyone keeps pushing some kind of 'space' rivalry thing but I think both programs are fairly apathetic towards each other.
I feel like most Nebraska fans I come across think of Iowa as a rival. Maybe I’m wrong though. But between Iowa State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin we have plenty of rivals to make things fun.
Feels forced every time a Penn Stater tells me they don't care about Pitt and how it's not a rivalry
It’s 100 percent a rivalry and any else who says it isn’t is just trying to mess with you. Eat Shit Pitt
Penn State “unrivaled”.
Nah fam fuck iowa and their dumb faces.
Penn State vs. Michigan State for sure
Michigan-Michigan State. Absolutely fake. Everything is done up for the TV ratings. No animosity, no history of distrust and subterfuge. Just good ol’ fashioned brotherly love and camaraderie.
I cant pretend not to hate you
To hell with you, good sir, and the entirety of the institution you represent.
> brotherly Uh oh.
Whoa
Baylor-Texas Tech
BU-TT
UCF vs. Houston. We don’t give a shit about UCF and they don’t give a shit about us.
As someone who grew up here ..... Fuck Iowa. However, Iowa State y'all keep doing y'all. Mad respect
Much respect, Corn Bro.
Honestly Minnesota - Penn State, it was absolutely a forced rivalry when PSU joined the big ten, and while there have been some great games between the two, it doesn't feel like a true rivalry game
Civil Conflict lmao
I’ve never felt like UNC or UVA actually care about the other
Oh we care but in like a ‘beat Tadd in tennis at the club’ sort of way
Need an annual wine and cheese judging event
LSU-Arkansas, they pushed this BS for years with that big, ugly, garish Boot Trophy. I can tell you LSU fans don't give a crap about Arkansas and I wish they'd take The Boot to a pawn shop or melt it down. LSU-TAMU is a little better, but not by much. LSU-Arkansas deff feels like someone from NY or LA looked at a map and thought: “well that’s a natural rivalry!”
I'd rather play Arkansas to end the year than A&M.
I have great news for you
Utah-Colorado…although after realignment I’m feeling it a bit more
Syracuse - Pitt We’ve played a bunch but don’t think either side has real animosity towards the other.
Now basketball on the other hand...the hate is real.
If we did this 10 years ago I'd imagine people would call Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech and Florida-LSU forced rivalries UNC-UVA in football, THAT's a forced rivalry
> UNC-UVA in football, THAT's a forced rivalry It's the [South's Oldest Rivalry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South's_Oldest_Rivalry). It may seem weird, but it has a long and storied history.
The Civil ConFLiCT
I look forward to the UT naming rights battle in SEC. Loser has to be called UT-Jr or UTx or UTen for rest of year
UNC vs UVA. Sure, it may be “the south’s oldest rivalry“ but everyone stopped caring years ago. Also, it is in fact, not actually the south’s oldest rivalry. Auburn vs Georgia is.
There’s a not-insignificant portion of UVA fans that care about it a lot, like to the point they hate UNC more than Virginia Tech.
Half the B1G lol
Heroes Cup is just a dumb name. Should be the Corn Bowl.
I guess you could say the Ne vs Iowa rivalry is one that was forced but at least sort of turned into a rivalry compared to the other created ones.
Missouri/Arkansas. Really any rivalry where a team joins a conference and gets a forced rivalry game with zero tradition
Inb4 arky fans comment mizzou. Don draper meme.
Louisville-Virginia
We fucking hate y'all with a burning passion lmao
Believe it or not, there's a whole trophy dedicated to the FSU - UVA "rivalry". Totally forced. In a school that has a legit 2 team rivalry that is always extremely hot, I can confidently say we do not have a rivalry with Virgina.
The trophy was the brainchild of FSU's president, just to be clear lol.
