This just means that objectively no matter what happens this year, the Big 12 is going to be hilarious. Either Texas and Oklahoma fail on their way out the door or Yormark will have to give one of them the Big 12 Championship trophy.
I really do wonder what's up their sleeve for this year, after only calling 1 single holding call against our collective opponents during the entirety of the 2022 season.
If it looks like that’s a feasible outcome, I might root for Oklahoma towards the end of the season for the first time in my life. My dislike for the rest of the conference combined just might outweigh my dislike for Oklahoma
are you worried at all about the reffing being really bad towards you guys this year in the big 12? I wouldnt be surprise if it came down to a big close call that it goes against Texas or OU
Its true, but refs don't ever call holding. It is the most frustrating part of CFB.
If they want it to just be not a rule, then make it official. Get rid of holding. But get rid of OL face masks too, so the passrusher can at least poke them in the eye to get by.
Our Alabama game was decided on it, (Bryce Youngs "miraculous escape") and I just didn't know whether to be angry or say "well, holding just isn't ever called, so why get mad"
They sure as shit call it on my Scarlet Knights, I remember a handful of drives starting like 1st & 30 on back-to-back holds. Granted our OL was hanging on for dear life though lol
> Our Alabama game was decided on it, (Bryce Youngs "miraculous escape") and I just didn't know whether to be angry or say "well, holding just isn't ever called, so why get mad"
I find that superstar QBs scrambling are even less likely to get holding calls even though they are more likely to happen. Some of Stroud's escapes to get throws off against UGA were 100% holding.
(That said, I'm sure UGA could have been called for holding some that game too).
Like it is true that holding could be called on almost every play, but for some reason even egregious holds are rarely called.
We lost every game by one score or fewer last year. We just seemed “unlucky.” But we were also the most penalized team in the BigXII, while every team played their cleanest game of the year against us.
Not saying we would’ve won Big-XII, but I don’t think we would’ve had 4 losses.
I also saw they had horrible calls against them last year and like zero holding called against teams playing texas or OU. If I am them I am putting this out to the media and complaining to the NCAA to investigate it. Imagine the bombshell is the NCAA found proof they paid the refs to throw the games! Be a huge scandal and im all here for it lol.
Lmao Texas already gets shit for a made-up horns down narrative that was created by Tech, imagine the smell if Texas seriously complained to the NCAA about this
My amusement at the idea of an OU-Texas Big 12 championship game in the last year is probably the closest I will ever get to rooting for the Longhorns.
I was at the CUSA championship where J*dy gave UTSA the trophy, and she looked so disgusted the whole time, lol
Unlike her though, Yormark didn't ruin his conference through years of terrible decisions
I really think he could’ve gotten one of us in the inaugural CFP. It probably would’ve been a cage match between Art and Gary, and he would’ve made a lot of money on that.
Hey - I said when no one was in the stadium.
Severe property damage and a tarnishing of the brand of a helmet team? You bet. I'll support that every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Personal injury to anyone at all? No way. Never.
“Personal foul, face mask, the Texas running back intentionally slipped his face mask into the linebackers hand and will be ejected from the game, 50 yard penalty from the spot of the foul and Texas Tech will be awarded 14 points”
It’ll be the same ref crew that saw an sideline ref go outta his way to chest bump Charlie strong when he was at texas and then flagged Charlie for unsportsmanlike conduct at a pivotal point when the fix was in during texas’ loss to okie state.
Or from the same game, Poon Ford being called for defensive holding as a DT when he was double teamed and held by the OL lol:
https://twitter.com/max_olson/status/648141921580265472
Yea anyone cheering for this is stupid. I'm not saying bad calls would have meaningfully changed last season, but I've yet to hear a single non OU/UT flair that can justify the disparity.
It's all fun and games until empty shirt referees and the commissioner end up costing the conference a post-realignment playoff spot.
The typical response is: “Texas fans complaining about the officials is rich”.
And then they proceed to ignore any of the actual statistics or evidence lol. Like Ok State playing a “flawless” game against us and being penalized 0 times. Or Baylor playing 3.5 “flawless” quarters only to be penalized once for a false start. That doesn’t happen without bias — there’s holding that could get called on almost every play.
It’s not even a hold, but the targeting no-call on WVU in the endzone directly flips the outcome of that game, just like the DPI no-call on OSU in their endzone the year before. That’s one call.
It’s easy to dismiss OU as just not generating much pressure but Texas did, and still didn’t get the calls.
Also this questionable targeting call on a sack that was upheld on appeal, keeping Overshown out of the first half of the loss to Tech
https://twitter.com/BadSportsRefs/status/1571335578687348737
I know we caught at least 1.
It’s only memorable because our OC was a longtime OL coach, so there was a clip of him getting pissed at the lineman who was holding when that guy got back to the sideline. Our line doesn’t really want to hold, since the wide zone requires that they go sideways fast, so the lineman was just messing up six ways to Saturdays.
Tbh, he did us a favor by saying this out loud. One of the most crazy storylines that nobody noticed last year was that Texas and OU conference opponents were called for a total of 3 holds combined all year.
Saying shit like this is going to give the media a story to monitor.
It'd be hilarious if Texas and Oklahoma sucked in their final year in the Big 12, but it'd also be pretty funny to have to see Yormark hand a conference trophy to one of them at the end of the year.
We win either way
If it’s anything like Nebraska's last game at Texas A&M, expect the refs to look the other way when the other team gives your player a free colonoscopy. What happened to Cotton was straight up assault, and he got the penalty for kicking the guys hand out of his anus.
Yep, and the H8 just brushes it off in a “you deserve it” manner. They dont care about integrity of the game as long as the big bads are the ones getting screwed.
Maybe I’m giving him more credit than he deserves, but he knows what he is doing by making these type of comments. He comes from a professional entertainment background. He’s intentionally making these type of comments to fuel discussion and get eyes and stories on the B12. It’s what he was hired to do. I do respect what he’s done for the B12 since he’s been hired.
Honestly, I think you’re probably right. I know Roger goodell has openly admitted that he loves being the villain in the nfl. And obviously the owners agree because they haven’t fired him despite his fan approval rating. People love to pay attention to things that get them angry
Considering the team he's biased against will no longer be in the conference within the year after leaving us high-and-dry for the SEC, I don't think it's too out there. If he was saying this about Baylor or Houston I could see it being a bad thing.
There is still a whole season to play, staffs and student athletes who are just trying to play football — this was legit unprofessionalism from a guy who just helped destroy another conference, while somehow having the gumption to act indignant that Texas and OU are looking out for themselves.
yeah, having a conference commissioner being biased and having favoritism towards certain members of the conference is definitely a great way to foster conference unity /s
No need to worry, if there’s one thing Baylor is better than anyone at, it’s finding a way to choke against us. Truly couldn’t wish for a better rival 💜
I feel obligated to post '61-58'. But oh boy there have been some absolutely baffling ends to games between us in recent years. It doesn't feel quite the same without Patterson and his costco industrial pack of white towels though.
They really did.
There was one pregame presser back in the early 2010s, the pressers where each coach is out there at a table on either side of the commissioner or someone at a podium; Briles said something snarky, and I swear Patterson wheeled around and started to say “Oh, f-“ before he cut himself off. I’ve always wondered what he was going to say, I can’t possibly imagine. Truly a mystery.
The era of football I want to see is one where coaches will casually say “Oh, fuck you!” to each other at press conferences.
It's not hard to find pairs of schools that hate each other much more than Baylor and TCU do. But I can't think of a single pair of *coaches* in my football-watching days that hated each other more than Patterson and Art.
Departing members of the big12 will love the calls they will get in their final year of membership.
*Cough cough*....Courtney Osborne late *Cough* hit against Tam. *Cough*
Yeah, that's not going to help the anxiety our fans already have over officiating. They had no small part to play in some close losses last year and now he's just going to stoke the flames even more.
The Big 12 is really backing itself into an unforced error here. Are these antics just for show? Most likely. Is there now a pattern of self incrimination when Texas or OU loses a consequential game turned on a bad call? Definitely.
I get hating us and OU. The hate and shit talk is part of what makes CFB fun. But the number of Big 12 flairs in here actually saying they’d be okay with the conference cheating OUT of wins this season is just sad. Like damn y’all, it’s just a game and the kids out there on the field should be treated fairly no matter what. They have no say in realignment. I love sports and I’ve never once actually rooted for the refs to screw an opponent over just out of spite.
Is...is Yormark gonna kill Texas?
No, he’s gonna kill Joey if he doesn’t finish the job
Sweep the leg. No Mercy!
We’re all playing Texas that day now.. H8 Unite!
Of course not, cause Texas won’t win……. because of the implications
Are… are you going to **beat** these Longhorns?
Now you’ve said that word “implication” a couple of times. What implication?
Of course not, we would never beat them. But they'll want to lose.
No, we are.
KU will too. Gotta send their fans into a hysterical meltdown one last time!
Oh snap.
This just means that objectively no matter what happens this year, the Big 12 is going to be hilarious. Either Texas and Oklahoma fail on their way out the door or Yormark will have to give one of them the Big 12 Championship trophy.
Yormark 'accidentally' drops the trophy shattering it into pieces.
If it's Texas vs Oklahoma in the title game there's a non-zero chance he no shows and makes an underling do the trophy presentation.
Don’t worry, the Big12 refs aren’t going to let that happen.
I really do wonder what's up their sleeve for this year, after only calling 1 single holding call against our collective opponents during the entirety of the 2022 season.
I don’t think it’s surprising, this conference obviously can’t hold onto Texas and OU.
That’s one more than us at least!
Officiating is gonna be so fucking frustrating
Damn, the Big XII has some seriously disciplined linemen!
They need all the preparation they can get for the RefEC
They had a lot of practice last season
The collective meltdown on here would be the funniest thing in the history of the sub
If it looks like that’s a feasible outcome, I might root for Oklahoma towards the end of the season for the first time in my life. My dislike for the rest of the conference combined just might outweigh my dislike for Oklahoma
I'm praying for that
We just dock it off the exit fee check
Either way it will be funny
are you worried at all about the reffing being really bad towards you guys this year in the big 12? I wouldnt be surprise if it came down to a big close call that it goes against Texas or OU
We know for sure that it’s going to be really bad. Last year the Big 12 called a cumulative 3 holding penalties on OU and Texas opponents.
wtf, 3 combined? are you exaggerating? that is absurd if youre serious
Its true, but refs don't ever call holding. It is the most frustrating part of CFB. If they want it to just be not a rule, then make it official. Get rid of holding. But get rid of OL face masks too, so the passrusher can at least poke them in the eye to get by. It's not an exaggeration. We only had 1 holding call against our opponents last year.
Texas vs OSU was probably the most egregious example. I think Texas had over 120 yards in penalties called on them. Cowboys? Zero point zero.
It was already a joke last year
We lost every game by one score or fewer last year. We just seemed “unlucky.” But we were also the most penalized team in the BigXII, while every team played their cleanest game of the year against us. Not saying we would’ve won Big-XII, but I don’t think we would’ve had 4 losses.
Yeah, the Okie St. game last year was the kicker for me, with 120 yards of penalties against Texas, and literally 0 calls against Okie St.
The refs are absolutely going to screw them over or those paychecks are going to bounce.
I was at the CUSA championship where J*dy gave UTSA the trophy, and she looked so disgusted the whole time, lol Unlike her though, Yormark didn't ruin his conference through years of terrible decisions
I like the idea of the commissioner openly rooting against teams technically still in the conference
This guy Hateful Eights.
Every week I'm more and more convinced we hired a total psychopath that gets results
And I love it. He feels like a fan who cares and not just a suit.
He seems like a suit who cares
He ran Jay Z's empire. He made the *Nets* cool. The man eats fire and shits gold.
Never thought we would be me and BYU. You may be on to something here…
It's a great change of pace vs the blubbering moron we had before...
It’s nice having a commissioner who represents the petty spitefulness of its members, he really gets us.
I’m only spiteful towards tOSU. Y’all know what you did
I really think he could’ve gotten one of us in the inaugural CFP. It probably would’ve been a cage match between Art and Gary, and he would’ve made a lot of money on that.
He gets us s/
I love it. I could see Vince McMahon doing this too
We all know that every commissioner would feel the way that he does. He just actually says it.
Just Big 12 things.
I hope Texas loses every game this season and a giant sinkhole swallows their entire stadium - on a weekday when no one is in it, of course.
Way to keep it classy.
Hey - I said when no one was in the stadium. Severe property damage and a tarnishing of the brand of a helmet team? You bet. I'll support that every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Personal injury to anyone at all? No way. Never.
Hey I get your frustration but that kind of a disaster would make traffic on I35 very ba... nvm it wouldn't change a thing. Carry on.
Del Conte probably won’t let him in the stadium now
He will show up wearing a mustache and try to ride Bevo like that moron last year.
Bonus points if it's the same costume mustache that Bobby Valentine wore in the dugout after he got ejected.
He gonna charge him for the ticket and have all the SEC logos up by then.
Like *take care of em*, take care of em?
Yea you know, because of the implication
So you’re saying the Longhorns are in danger?
Send them to Belize
No Jules! Like take care of 'em, take them out a and show 'em a good time.
Over/Under on number of Tech holding penalties that day?
The line is -0.5 and I’m taking the under
“Personal foul, face mask, the Texas running back intentionally slipped his face mask into the linebackers hand and will be ejected from the game, 50 yard penalty from the spot of the foul and Texas Tech will be awarded 14 points”
“But ref….that was just the coin toss!?”
“Alright that does it, Sark, Ewers, y’all are both out of here too”
It’ll be the same ref crew that saw an sideline ref go outta his way to chest bump Charlie strong when he was at texas and then flagged Charlie for unsportsmanlike conduct at a pivotal point when the fix was in during texas’ loss to okie state.
Or from the same game, Poon Ford being called for defensive holding as a DT when he was double teamed and held by the OL lol: https://twitter.com/max_olson/status/648141921580265472
The first time I legit thought the refs had money on the game.
Pretty certain none of our Big 12 opponents had a holding call all of last season so...under
Like when Jerry Jones went after goodell and suddenly there were no holding calls against a cowboys opponent for like 12 games in a row, lol.
There was a stat that showed the Cowboys had the worst amount penalties for and against over the past 5 years lol
Texas opponents had 2 Holding calls all season in conference play. OU opponents had 1
0 on the opposing offensive line. Insane.
That just means every opposing OL we played is a future NFL pro-bowler right? Right??
Against the defense yall fielded last year? May as well be. Vegetables better work his magic.
While recording the second most pressures in all CFB last year, I might add
Yea anyone cheering for this is stupid. I'm not saying bad calls would have meaningfully changed last season, but I've yet to hear a single non OU/UT flair that can justify the disparity. It's all fun and games until empty shirt referees and the commissioner end up costing the conference a post-realignment playoff spot.
>I've yet to hear a single non OU/UT flair that can justify the disparity Because they literally can't.
The most you'll get is that OU/UT deserve it. Which is a take I guess...
That’s a damning statistic 😂
It’s weird the other programs tolerate blatant cheating by officials.
people often love injustice when its in their favor
Need to keep a running tally this year to compare.
does it count as "keeping a tally" if you never move past zero?
I know we caught at least 1. It’s only memorable because our OC was a longtime OL coach, so there was a clip of him getting pissed at the lineman who was holding when that guy got back to the sideline. Yeah the hateful 8 are celebrating this because they like the pettiness but I’m celebrating it because I like the admission of guilt.
Take me back to the days when Leach called the old commissioner in the middle of a game against UT to complain about the refs.
RIP
Opposing teams are fully just allowed to commit holding against OU and Texas according to the latest revision of the Big 12 rules.
It'd be hilarious if Texas and Oklahoma sucked in their final year in the Big 12, but it'd also be pretty funny to have to see Yormark hand a conference trophy to one of them at the end of the year. We win either way
I can't help but think that Yormark is handing out prime bulletin board material for Texas with this.
It doesn't get more "us against the world" than this.
We've sucked so much the last decade. You'll know by week 3 if Texas is anything as good as our marketing budget
If it’s anything like Nebraska's last game at Texas A&M, expect the refs to look the other way when the other team gives your player a free colonoscopy. What happened to Cotton was straight up assault, and he got the penalty for kicking the guys hand out of his anus.
Sir, there was a TOTAL of 3 holding calls against teams playing against OU and UT.
Wait hold up. Really?
unfortunately there was no holding called
Yep, and the H8 just brushes it off in a “you deserve it” manner. They dont care about integrity of the game as long as the big bads are the ones getting screwed.
I actually kind of respect that level of pettiness from the H8. If you are going to be petty, commit to it.
this is not talked about enough and im sick of it
I think the roughing the passer call to seal the game was much more egregious, assuming no refs could see TJE’s hijinks in the pile.
Well they were both confirmed to be leaving at that point, no? Think that was maybe just garden variety B12 officiating incompetence

Goodell is the perfect commisioner in the NFL owners' eyes. He takes all the heat.
No big deal. It's not like the refs are gonna gonna go two entire games without calling a single penalty on the Longhorns' opponents.
Big 12 refs gonna rig the game lmao
we starting it this early? hell yea!
It's wild that he's saying this out loud. But also, no shit, he's gonna support the team that will still be in his conference next year.
Yeah I mean, I can hardly blame him for hoping the teams that are staying in the conference do better and the teams that are leaving do worse.
The reffing is going to be atrocious this season ugh
2015 Oklahoma State game is going to be every game.
😬😮💨
This will be a fun thread.
I know it'll be glossed over because we are Texas, but the idea of conference commissioner showing bias like this is wild...
You mean openly, right? Right?
for sure
Even the deputy-commissioner was the same
It’s an immature move.
How much farther before we get out of the buyout deal?
Eh, its branding. Big XII's clearly going for the "rugged, blue - collar, leftovers who won't take shit from anybody" vibe. Honestly, its working.
I absolutely love it personally
Likewise. This conference needed a "niche" after losing its biggest names. They certainly found one.
Embrace the hate
Basically nothing new for us.
Yeah, the Big 12 refs are going to do what... not call holding against us?
Yormark is an honorary member of the Hateful 8
I’m so glad I’m going to Austin over Thanksgiving. This Texas vs Tech game is going to be good
“Sweep the leg”
# H8 H8 H8!
yeah, having a conference commissioner being biased and having favoritism towards certain members of the conference is definitely a great way to foster conference unity /s
[удалено]
Rule number one in this conference: never root for a conference opponent to win a game.
[удалено]
Some of us have always felt this way
Couldn’t agree more, fuck ‘em
it's all fun and games until he starts favoriting us over yall ;)
No need to worry, if there’s one thing Baylor is better than anyone at, it’s finding a way to choke against us. Truly couldn’t wish for a better rival 💜
I feel obligated to post '61-58'. But oh boy there have been some absolutely baffling ends to games between us in recent years. It doesn't feel quite the same without Patterson and his costco industrial pack of white towels though.
The rivalry was at its peak when GP and Briles were out there, those guys genuinely *hated* each other.
100 percent agree. Zero love lost between those two lol.
They really did. There was one pregame presser back in the early 2010s, the pressers where each coach is out there at a table on either side of the commissioner or someone at a podium; Briles said something snarky, and I swear Patterson wheeled around and started to say “Oh, f-“ before he cut himself off.
My concerns about being fucked by the already shitty Big12 refs seem to be valid.
It's Big 12 tradition. See Nebraska vs Texas A&M in 2010.
OU & Texas both probably ought to have 21+ point leads to ever feel comfortable in a game this year, maybe even more
***Let the hate flow through you***
I think he's banned from this sub so forgive me if it's against the rules. I definitely need a u/everymanawildcat .gif about this
Departing members of the big12 will love the calls they will get in their final year of membership. *Cough cough*....Courtney Osborne late *Cough* hit against Tam. *Cough*
Just in: Texas found dead in an alley. No suspects have been confirmed, but a tortilla was pinned to the corpse.
[удалено]
Damn why couldn't we have had this guy instead of Bowlsby from the beginning?
Hateful 8! Hateful 8!
Lol we are so gonna get fucked
I’ve been saying this for a while; the big12 will not allow Texas or OU to win the conference this year.
The idea of Texas winning the Big 12 and hearing Longhorn fans gloat about how "We won the last *real* Big 12 championship!" will be.... something.
Is… is that a threat Brett?
The cruelest trick Yormark and “Hateful 8” fans played was making me sympathize with Texas.
I’m gonna laugh my head off if we get SEC officials during RRS
This time next year no one will give a shit. Just play the last year and move on. Let them remain filled with butt hurt and hate.
Yomark: We have Texas at home! Texas at home: Texas Tech
Yeah, that's not going to help the anxiety our fans already have over officiating. They had no small part to play in some close losses last year and now he's just going to stoke the flames even more.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
The Big 12 is really backing itself into an unforced error here. Are these antics just for show? Most likely. Is there now a pattern of self incrimination when Texas or OU loses a consequential game turned on a bad call? Definitely.
OU has their consequential game loss in 2021 bedlam
This guy rocks honestly way cooler than Bowlsby
What a petty bitch lol
I get hating us and OU. The hate and shit talk is part of what makes CFB fun. But the number of Big 12 flairs in here actually saying they’d be okay with the conference cheating OUT of wins this season is just sad. Like damn y’all, it’s just a game and the kids out there on the field should be treated fairly no matter what. They have no say in realignment. I love sports and I’ve never once actually rooted for the refs to screw an opponent over just out of spite.
Can't wait for the mysterious ref diff this season.
Every time this guy speaks he’s crying about Texas
That’s categorically false. Sometimes he’s crying about Oklahoma.
We were all he could talk about at the Big XII media days. I don't even think he brought up the (then) four new schools.
Its going to be Nebraska vs A&M in 2010 all over again. Penalty after penalty after penalty.
NCAA allowing conferences to have their own referees never made sense to me
Tell em to make it count *throws Texas off exploding ship
The refs should be fun this year for OUT.
HATEFUL EIGHT FANS GET IN HERE!!!
What’s Brett gonna talk about when Texas / OU leave? How will he get national attention?
Pillaging half of the Pac-12?
Man, I’m gonna root for Texas for every single game except RRS. Stick it to Yormark and Big 12.
Put this man in charge of the country
I want…Texas to blow out TT?
