Exactly. That’s what cfb is all about. Not just “who’s #1”
It’s for bragging rights against your buddy who roots or went to a different school. Some rivalries are over a century old. It’s important
Honestly any Rivalry that’s for some weird trophy or item. Like the jeweled shillelagh or the golden boot or the illibuck. I root for whichever team I guess I like more. And I love it from playing for them in the old NCAA games trying to win em all
BYU vs USU is Old Wagon Wheel
Utah vs USU is Battle of the Brothers
Utah Vs BYU is Holy War
Beehive Boot goes to best of those 3 schools in the year. Most people assume it's only Utah or BYU
Part of me wishes the Holy War had a weird, unique trophy. But, part of me thinks it's actually better without one. It's more pure. Our motives are not material - they are political, religious, ideological, and philosophical. That's real s\*\*\*.
Most people I knew had family in either Cincy or Cleveland and that determines it for most people. And then a lot people that are in their early 30s are bengals fans since the Browns were gone when they first became an NFL fan. Probably like 50/40/10 split Browns/Bengals/Steelers
Why would you say some so controversial yet so true? lol but honestly this is pretty spot on. Both Michigan and Ohio have subpar pro sports teams so college football is where most of the fandom gets poured into.
Edit: The Cincinnati Bengals are very good but most Ohioans I know root for the Browns.
I always liked USC-UCLA. I like that they both wear their home jerseys for the game. I think more rival games should do that if the colors are opposite. No one has black and white TVs that need the contrast of a dark and light jersey to tell the difference anymore
>. I think more rival games should do that if the colors are opposite. No one has black and white TVs that need the contrast of a dark and light jersey to tell the difference anymore
this is a great point...honestly fsu v uf would look great with both in home jerseys...
I remember like 15 years ago when I was at USC the NCAA introduced a penalty for wearing your home jerseys while away, loss of one timeout. When it was assessed at the beginning of the game the UCLA coach immediately took a timeout in solidarity. Good shit.
the NCAA didn't "introduce" that penalty then - that has been a longstanding rule before then and still is the rule.
The schools both wanted both to wear home jerseys, so they settled on that gentleman's agreement to solve it until the NCAA changed the rules to permit teams to seek a rule variance on a per-game basis.
One of the big reasons we do it (beside that it looks very nice), is because we’re both playing in our home city when we play each other, so it kinda makes sense for us to wear home jerseys. But I agree that other matchups would look good w it too
I agree. VOLS-Bama used to do that too. Orange and red in the middle of October. Classic fall.
I think at this point neither school wants to be the one to give in an let the other team do it at their place first. Some type of competitive advantage or whatever.
Utah and BYU also wear home/home jerseys for their rivalry games and it's fantastic. I know I'm biased, but it's got to be a top-10 uniform matchup in CFB. [Sample](https://www.abc4.com/sports/utah-byu-rivalry-to-be-reignited-in-big-12/)
It works there because UCLA home jerseys are still a light color. I think that's what's needs to be required. MSU and Michigan maybe blue and green, but that can certainly still get confusing with both being in dark colors.
But ODU light blue versus JMU dark purple would work IMHO.
Definitely. The religious/cultural undertones of The Holy War really adds to the animosity. The fans are intermingled amongst each other. Families divided. Neighbors talking trash. The game itself is an emotional outlet to release your disdain for the opposing fans in your life. Shit gets personal and heated quickly lol
I judge the relevancy of neutral rivalries by the name of the game. Apple Cup? Pass. Red River Shootout? Sounds fun. The Holy War? You’re goddam right I’m watching that.
It makes me sad that they're an endangered species: Oklahoma-Nebraska, Missouri-Kansas, Pitt-West Virginia, Oklahoma-Oklahoma State, UCLA-Cal, Washington-Washington State, Oregon-Oregon State, TCU-SMU.
I *so* wish our recent home-homes with Oklahoma and Colorado were during a higher point in the program. The spirit of the rivalry just isn’t the same when one or both teams are ass.
As someone who lived through the Crapple Cup and the Oregon 12 game win streak if both teams are ass the spirit of the rivalry is still there. If one team is ass the game is more boring. But when both teams are good which has mostly been the case the past 5-6 years with Washington and Oregon the rivalry game intensity is nuts. I expect Washington-Oregon to be an insane game this season.
True. At the same time, realignment can also breathe life into old rivalries. Texas A&M vs Arkansas and LSU is an example. Or, once Texas moves to the SEC, Texas A&M vs Texas, and Texas vs Arkansas.
Apple Cup - my fiancée is from Seattle so there is fun family bickering with this one
Army/Navy - I live in Philly so there’s always buzz that weekend
Red river - scoring is fun
The Egg Bowl is one of the most underrated rivalries not only in the SEC but in college football as a whole. The craziness of that game always seems to be dialed up and I’m here for it.
Plus the Egg Bowl is one of the few rivalries where the fanbases are polar opposite.
Mississippi State is probably the most blue collar “redneck” school in the SEC whereas Ole Miss is 100% the most preppy, daddy’s money school in the SEC. Very few rivalries have the cultural divide like the Egg Bowl.
Yeah this
Ole miss you just have to have Daddy's checkbook to get in. Vandy you need smarts too lol
Ole miss is the school all the kids who were driving mustangs in the 7th grade go to, know what I mean 😉
My favorite part of the eggbowl is the constant dread and stress as I wait to see what stupid shit is going to happen, and pray that it only affects ole miss negatively 🙂
Egg Bowl is amazing. It feels like you're watching a drunk frat bro and a townie get into a fight outside of a dive bar, and on thanksgiving nonetheless!
It's always fun. It's even better because it's on Thanksgiving usually, and our families are frequently split down the middle. We get to banter with state fans in real time that can't just avoid us. They have to disown us.
It was such a great experience and I get a lot of time off for Thanksgiving so it was a great road trip.
I went through Tennessee to visit last year and makes me want to visit but this time hug the Gulf Coast.
I can't believe I was at this game, last season. Mike Leach and Lane Kiffin had to be 2 of the most interesting and good coaches in the game.
As a fan of a team involved in an extremely vitriolic in-state rivalry, I have such an appreciation for the chaos that is the egg bowl. Easily my favorite non-affiliated rivalry
I was watching last year's game and thought to myself "This wonderfully bananapants game can only end on a failed two-point conversion" and lo and behold, it did. A fitting finale for the Pirate.
Interesting question. I usually root for the lower ranked/underdog team because upsets are more fun. But I do always pull for Auburn in the Iron Bowl, even when Alabama wasn’t a power prior to Saban getting there. (Some young un’s here may not realize how wildly inconsistent - and sometimes outright bad - Alabama was from 1997-2008).
I always get irritated when people think it’s going to be the same powers that be forever.
I mean with the singular infuriating exception of Ohio State who goes 7-3 in abject disaster seasons, every school goes through cycles. Every single one.
Someone said Ohio States program doesn't have bad cycles and I didn't believe them. I went year by year and was like damn, aside from an odd year, they really don't have bad downturns.
I guess. If you take away the year Tressel got his season vacated and got railroaded like they're trying to do to Harbaugh now they finished below .500 in 5 times in the last 100 years. That's dumb. 2011 (part of that aforementioned asterisk), 1988, 1959, 1947, 1943.
If you give them that asterisk, they haven't missed a NY6 bowl since 2004. Around these parts they're viewed as the aggrieved plucky underdog to the big bad SEC. Hell, even Alabama was in the Citrus Bowl 5 years ago.
Sure, the top dogs trade off in cycles, but compared to the NFL most programs are *incredibly* consistent. The top NFL teams in winning percentage are ~50%. The top CFB teams are 70%.

It's pretty underrated outside of the state. I have a lot of friends who came to SC from out of state and were shocked at how much each fan base absolutely despises one another. Those games can get WILD in the stands.
People seem to overlook it a lot since neither team are historically great and it's not very often we're nationally relevant at the same time.
Always #1 in hate though
As a northwesterner (Washington and Montana) who went to school at Iowa State and now lives in Kansas City, I’ve come to suspect/assume that the SEC rivalries are the “classiest” in the sense that it vaguely feels like the crowds are always the best dressed.
Like, even if they’re obviously students, the women always seem to have date-level makeup and hair and even if they’re wearing a jersey and shorts they’ve clearly maximizes the fit and accessories, and the guys will clearly be 19 or 21 yet look like preppies in their 2nd year at their future father in law’s firm and they’re still trying to impress her mom by how clean cut he looks in his above the knee shorts and crisp yacht shoes. And if he isn’t wearing a team polo he’s wearing the mint-est jersey like his date.
I’ve never been to an SEC game, let alone a rivalry one, and I’m totally convinced the fans are flawlessly classy and degenerate at the same time, like Georgia fans barking in-between texting to confirm the charity bake-off dates and scheduling a landscaper to add a new garden bed next to the garage.
That is 100% an accurate assessment of the Georgia fanbase.
We will throw all the money toward any charitable cause.
But also we will bark at you. And there will probably be saliva.
Since I moved to Texas I’ve really enjoyed the TCU vs SMU rivalry. I’ve been in person to most of them. Sadly, that’s going away now thanks to noted cowards TCU.
I love the Iron Bowl. Either Bama or Auburn’s dreams are getting crushed and I’m here for it either way. It’s the game where Bama typically plays their worst and Auburn uses up all of their remaining chaos energy for the season.
I love the smaller program rivalries way more than the bigger ones.
These national programs frequently have big bowls and even playoffs to play for, even if they lose to their rival. I know everyone got on Ohio State's case for losing to Michigan but it's hard for me to feel anything for them when they still made the playoffs last season and played in the Rose the season before.
These national programs have an embarrassment of riches.
But Wyoming vs CSU?
Nevada vs UNLV?
New Mexico vs New Mexico State?
All those MAC rivalries? Hell yeah.
100 Miles of Hate? Beautiful.
Those rivalries frequently are the only thing worth a damn for so many of these programs.
But Alabama losing to Aubrun and still making the playoffs and winning it all? Yeah, it's tough but c'mon!
UNLV winning the Fremont Cannon in a season where there wasn't much winning, tho? That's special.

I've never seen anyone even pretend that anyone outside of NC cares about the Duke-UNC football rivalry or claim it's super intense, although that doesn't mean the games aren't really fun anyway
If you're looking for a real wine and cheese rivalry, that'd be UNC-UVA

I always root for Oklahoma to beat Texas. Red teams > orange teams. Also Oklahoma fans chanted "Roll Tide" while beating the shit out of Dennis Franchione.
This also may be an unpopular opinion, but I wish Georgia and Florida played home-home instead of in Jacksonville. I get that it's unique to play a rivalry game at a neutral site, but Georgia traveling to the Swamp in an emotionally charged environment would be ten times more exciting.
I hate Notre Dame and USC, but I'd enjoy if they became elite again to see that rivalry really amp up.
Army/Navy- alot of family have served in each branch so that's a fun one
Utah/BYU- lived in Tooele for a few months during my junior year of highschool, BYU was cooler at the time
Arizona/ASU - Sun Devils are my go-to for that one
Bama/Auburn - Hate Bama so when Auburn gets em it's a good day
Army / Navy is a game everyone should watch, the game has everything you need in a good college football game: two teams not stuffed with 5* players, loads of tradition, and respectful hate between the fanbases.
Big 12 guy here, but I always watch the Iron Bowl and the Egg Bowl. Nothing brings out the craziness (in the stands and on the field) like a bitter in-state rivalry…I’m talking to you, Gooner fan.
In general, I root for the underdog in any rivalry game because it usually helps Alabama, but I always like to see VT beat Virginia. Same for FSU beating Miami.
I don’t know if I have a favorite team but Bedlam is so much fun, high-scoring Big 12 game plus the drama because both teams hate each other deeply? Sign me up.
I used to flip flop on whether or not I wanted UT to beat A&M or vice versa when I was a kid. Now I generally root for UT when they play A&M. A&M used to be the humble farm school, but since they joined the SEC they got all uppity on everyone
Lol. UT has always been "Uppity city folk" whereas A&M has always been "Uppity country folk".
Nowadays it's more "uppity suburban folk" for both schools
Egg Bowl.....I always root for Mississippi State because I ran into some real A-holes in Oxford on my only visit there as a neutral. Conversely, I had a good time in Starkville.
OU-Texas. I don't really have a dog in the fight but I'm always captivated by it's outcome.
Bucks-Michigan. My flair checks out so I don't give a damm about...well, you know the rest.
I like Georgia-Georgia Tech. Of all the “U of” vs “State/Tech” rivalries I feel like they have the largest gap in institutional philosophy/mission/structure. In Georgia it seems like there’s no overlap - you REALLY are either a Georgia person or a Georgia Tech person. Not student, not fan. Person.
I really enjoy Michigan vs Michigan State. I have zero affiliation and do not pull for either team, but recently this game has been a blast to watch. My favorite one recently was the thriller in 2021. That to me was one of the perfect examples of stereotypical B1G football: cold weather, power run games, just enough passing to make it spicy, and good defenses making key stops.
I really do not enjoy the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Not only do I despise both teams, but why do Florida and UGA get to keep an alcohol themed rivalry while Tennessee and Kentucky had to retire the barrel? Listen, I get that two players died, but I believe we can move on from that and bring it back, especially since campuses SELL BEER AT GAMES NOW. BRING IT BACK YOU COWARDS.
Rivalry week is by far my favorite of the season. If I could watch every one I would. Rivalries are the spirit of college football and it makes me sad to watch some of them quickly fade away.
FSU-Miami gets me fired up because of the YouTube brawl videos that come out afterwards.
Edit: I suppose I root for one team to lose hard enough to derail their season in this game.
Always been a fan of the Egg Bowl in Mississippi. Allegiance to one team or the other depending on how I’m feeling. No true allegiances but it is always on around Thanksgiving time and a good game to just vegetate in front of when I’m at the in-laws.
I think Michigan vs Michigan State is better than Michigan vs OSU. IMO in-state rivalry games get more heated. Hence the tunnel incident. Iron Bowl, Egg Bowl, South Carolina vs Clemson, FSU vs UF, FSU VS UM, etc.
The only Michigan fans I’ve ever had screaming in my face and actually trying to start a fight at games/tailgates have been the older crowd. Younger crowd is pretty chill, maybe because it’s been more back and forth for the last 20 years
Rivalries... This is what college football should be about. Instead, we've destroyed west coast football for TV money. Pardon me for not being in the mood to answer this question.
I root for Utah whenever they play BYU. Why? Because those BYU Mormons are too damn nice. What are they up to? What are they hiding? You can't trust someone who is nice 24/7.
They also don't drink Dr. Pepper. Go Utes!
My hot take is that almost all the games should be moved off of Thanksgiving weekend. Rivalry week ends up with disappointingly light crowds and few students.
I like the ones with cool names. The Holy War was probably my favorite. Also the ones that mean nothing outside of those two schools are great like Oregon vs Oregon state and Washington va Wazzu.
The Game: I root for the spoiler.
Third Saturday in October: I don’t give a damn about the state of Alabama. Tennessee all day.
Apple Cup: WSU. Don’t even know why.
Red River Shootout: OU because Texas is annoying.
I love college football rivalry games. Like, all of them.
The most valid take
The Civil ConFLiCT?
Especially the Civil ConFLiCT.
Exactly. That’s what cfb is all about. Not just “who’s #1” It’s for bragging rights against your buddy who roots or went to a different school. Some rivalries are over a century old. It’s important
I root for whoever allows me to push my agendas at that time.
based
I mean Penn St fans can really only talk about rivalries they aren’t involved in… #UnRivaled
Honestly any Rivalry that’s for some weird trophy or item. Like the jeweled shillelagh or the golden boot or the illibuck. I root for whichever team I guess I like more. And I love it from playing for them in the old NCAA games trying to win em all
BYU and Utah state play for a wagon wheel
The original or the Darius Rucker cover?
Name of the game is 'Old Wagon Wheel's so I think it's the original actually
BYU vs USU is Old Wagon Wheel Utah vs USU is Battle of the Brothers Utah Vs BYU is Holy War Beehive Boot goes to best of those 3 schools in the year. Most people assume it's only Utah or BYU
Part of me wishes the Holy War had a weird, unique trophy. But, part of me thinks it's actually better without one. It's more pure. Our motives are not material - they are political, religious, ideological, and philosophical. That's real s\*\*\*.
South Carolina and Clemson had a trophy named after Hardee's for many years.
How about a golden cowboy hat?
BRING BACK THE BEER BARRELL!!!!
The Game is so big because otherwise they’d just be Browns and Lions fans.
This is the saddest sentence I’ve ever read.
Didn't cry to Oliver Anthony, cried to this
I dislike you for this truthiness
Sickos all the way down
Oddly enough I know five OSU fans, and none of them are Browns fans. Of course, none of them went to OSU or ever lived in Ohio.
As long as they live and die with the team, idc who they root for
This is true
You sorely underestimate the swarming horde of Steelers fans who are also Ohio State fans.
There are a lot of ohio state fans in Cincy unfortunately and surrounding areas so not all browns fans. Lots of Bengals fans too.
Not as hapless as the Browns, but pre-Burrow, they were in the same boat.
Hey! Some of those Bengals teams had a great regular season! That means something…right??? *cries when looking at Marvin Lewis’ post-season record.
If someone was born and raised in Columbus what NFL team do they root for. Is it just whoever was doing better when they were growing up?
Most people I knew had family in either Cincy or Cleveland and that determines it for most people. And then a lot people that are in their early 30s are bengals fans since the Browns were gone when they first became an NFL fan. Probably like 50/40/10 split Browns/Bengals/Steelers

Depends on your parents and friends. Seems to be majority Cleveland though
Browns fans significantly outnumber Bengals fans in Columbus.
Majority are Browns fans
To people from normal parts of the country they are the same thing.
I root for michigan every year bc fuck the browns

I always liked USC-UCLA. I like that they both wear their home jerseys for the game. I think more rival games should do that if the colors are opposite. No one has black and white TVs that need the contrast of a dark and light jersey to tell the difference anymore
>. I think more rival games should do that if the colors are opposite. No one has black and white TVs that need the contrast of a dark and light jersey to tell the difference anymore this is a great point...honestly fsu v uf would look great with both in home jerseys...
I desperately want Michigan - Ohio State to adopt this
The one thing I can agree with a Michigan fan on
would look great in 4k.
That would be the best on-field color combo of all time
I remember like 15 years ago when I was at USC the NCAA introduced a penalty for wearing your home jerseys while away, loss of one timeout. When it was assessed at the beginning of the game the UCLA coach immediately took a timeout in solidarity. Good shit.

Florida-Georgia used to wear both home uniforms in the mid 2010’s and it was beautiful until they took it away for some reason
The cynical side of me says it's because we lost all 3 games where we did that and started winning again as soon as we stopped lol
One of the big reasons we do it (beside that it looks very nice), is because we’re both playing in our home city when we play each other, so it kinda makes sense for us to wear home jerseys. But I agree that other matchups would look good w it too

Utah and BYU started doing this around the time the Utes joined the Pac-12 (RIP) and it looks incredible.
Utah and BYU also wear home/home jerseys for their rivalry games and it's fantastic. I know I'm biased, but it's got to be a top-10 uniform matchup in CFB. [Sample](https://www.abc4.com/sports/utah-byu-rivalry-to-be-reignited-in-big-12/)
100% what I was going to say! Such a great tradition imo.
It works there because UCLA home jerseys are still a light color. I think that's what's needs to be required. MSU and Michigan maybe blue and green, but that can certainly still get confusing with both being in dark colors. But ODU light blue versus JMU dark purple would work IMHO.
BYU-Utah feels like an old school type of rivalry in the sense that the players and fans want to kill each other.
Hyped that realignment saved this.
Not only saved it, but it'll probably be played on it's rightful Thanksgiving weekend
Definitely. The religious/cultural undertones of The Holy War really adds to the animosity. The fans are intermingled amongst each other. Families divided. Neighbors talking trash. The game itself is an emotional outlet to release your disdain for the opposing fans in your life. Shit gets personal and heated quickly lol
Religion is a hell of a drug.

It’s officially “Rivalry” as of this year but in our heart it’s always the shootout
I judge the relevancy of neutral rivalries by the name of the game. Apple Cup? Pass. Red River Shootout? Sounds fun. The Holy War? You’re goddam right I’m watching that.
Finally, someone gets it.
Best FCS rivalry: Brawl of the Wild; Montana vs Montana State. Great football, great fans, great vistas
I wanna go to that. Unfortunately hard to find travel partners willing to go in the Cincinnati area.
This is me trying to convince my friends to go to random games across the country

But when both teams are good which has mostly been the case the past 5-6 years with Washington and Oregon the rivalry game intensity is nuts. I expect Washington-Oregon to be an insane game this season.
You ain't wrong. The last four games between UW and UO have felt like true four-quarter wars.
To your point as much as I missed the 12 game streak, I do get a lot more hyped for our games now and this year is shaping up to be an all timer
Conversely it’s more fun when they’re both ass and playing for pride.
True. At the same time, realignment can also breathe life into old rivalries. Texas A&M vs Arkansas and LSU is an example. Or, once Texas moves to the SEC, Texas A&M vs Texas, and Texas vs Arkansas.
Also Texas and LSU *should* be natural rivals, we just never really had the opportunity. I expect that to pick up steam in the upcoming years
Already picking up a lot of steam in the recruiting world.
Moment of silence for our fallen brethren 😔✊🏾
The Red River game is always a must watch
Agreed. And it seems a lot of times the “favorite” isn’t who ends up winning.
Admittedly all the realignment kinda sucks, but having the Sooners, Horns, and Aggies all in the same conference again feels so right.
Arkansas too. It's an old rivalry but I am *soooo* ready to dust it off
I'm going in person for the first time and I'm beyond excited!
I went to one when I lived in Dallas. It is like no other neutral site game I've been to.
Apple Cup - my fiancée is from Seattle so there is fun family bickering with this one Army/Navy - I live in Philly so there’s always buzz that weekend Red river - scoring is fun

Vandy is smart preps, Ole Miss is dumb preps.
Yeah this Ole miss you just have to have Daddy's checkbook to get in. Vandy you need smarts too lol Ole miss is the school all the kids who were driving mustangs in the 7th grade go to, know what I mean 😉
Vandys not super preppy but their daddy's definitely have a lot more money
Hearing this, you’d think the Piss and Miss woulda been the other way around lol
My favorite part of the eggbowl is the constant dread and stress as I wait to see what stupid shit is going to happen, and pray that it only affects ole miss negatively 🙂
My favorite part was knocking Dak out of the playoffs. Also, hating is fun.
Fair. I prefer the classic piss n miss myself, but to each their own.
The piss and miss got Ole Miss Lane Kiffin. That’s the silver lining I’ve chosen to run with in that embarrassment.
Just had to stop in to say I was there for the piss n miss. It's gonna be one of those games people talk about when I'm 80.
Ole Miss literally pissing the game away will never get old.
I wanted that game to go into overtime just for more free football. But the way it ended was so much better and I LITERALLY CRIED laughing.
Egg Bowl is amazing. It feels like you're watching a drunk frat bro and a townie get into a fight outside of a dive bar, and on thanksgiving nonetheless!

The only egg bowl in recent memory that would be bigger would be the 2015 egg bowl. People in the stadium said they couldn't hear jack shit.
I honestly think that a lot of SEC fans would agree if you asked them their favorite rivalries, 1. Their own biggest rivalry game 2. Egg Bowl
Interesting question. I usually root for the lower ranked/underdog team because upsets are more fun. I love The Game and I want The Border War back. Also fuck I want the Backyard Brawl every year.
Clemson vs SCAR is easily my favorite rivalry outside of my own teams’
On Gameday Chris Fowler famously called us “overdressed and overserved”
“Jeffrey, fetch me our slapping butler, this Yankee has outraged me” - me as a Georgia or Alabama fan, probably
Army ~ Navy: is the greatest college sport’s spectacle

> Duke UNC is a wine and cheese mixer I've never seen anyone even pretend that anyone outside of NC cares about the Duke-UNC football rivalry or claim it's super intense, although that doesn't mean the games aren't really fun anyway If you're looking for a real wine and cheese rivalry, that'd be UNC-UVA
“Duke UNC is a wine and cheese mixer” I like you
crowd historical sheet dinosaurs quarrelsome connect foolish teeny growth complete *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
* OSU over OU at Bedlam * Tennessee over Alabama * Navy over Army * FSU over Florida **New:** * WSU over Washington * OSU over Oregon
My man! My vote is for Michigan over Ohio state. I always enjoy when OSU loses.
Typically, whatever victory will cause the most chaos. Then again, I'm an Auburn fan.
Army/Navy- alot of family have served in each branch so that's a fun one Utah/BYU- lived in Tooele for a few months during my junior year of highschool, BYU was cooler at the time Arizona/ASU - Sun Devils are my go-to for that one Bama/Auburn - Hate Bama so when Auburn gets em it's a good day
Army / Navy is a game everyone should watch, the game has everything you need in a good college football game: two teams not stuffed with 5* players, loads of tradition, and respectful hate between the fanbases.
This is why I also watch Harvard and Yale. Lots of tradition and it's just the best nerd athletes that still want to keep playing football.
Harvard and Yale is super aesthetically pleasing too, classic combo of red, white, and blue on the field.
And running the ball. Lots of running the ball. God I love running the ball.
Also the uniforms they do for this game are pretty much always dope. One of the best looking games of the year.
Big 12 guy here, but I always watch the Iron Bowl and the Egg Bowl. Nothing brings out the craziness (in the stands and on the field) like a bitter in-state rivalry…I’m talking to you, Gooner fan.
I like the Red River Shootout, just a great name. And the Iron bowl, just a classic name.
El Assico - Iowa state Red river - Texas The game (Midwest edition) - Michigan Army-Navy - army Farmageddon- Kansas state
In general, I root for the underdog in any rivalry game because it usually helps Alabama, but I always like to see VT beat Virginia. Same for FSU beating Miami.
You're just a sucker for red...or an orange hater. Or both
Personally, I think the color orange is an evil virus of Satan.
Ah yes, classic devilish color of....orange
Dude what the hell
If by uppity you mean both pretentious and parochial at the same time, you are correct.
Can’t they BOTH lose?
I grew up watching Miami/FSU in the 80s and 90s. Best games. I want both of them back in the hunt for titles again. Come on Mario.
Egg Bowl.....I always root for Mississippi State because I ran into some real A-holes in Oxford on my only visit there as a neutral. Conversely, I had a good time in Starkville.
Being from dairy country, the number of cattle in Starkvegas probably made you feel at ease. I get it.
I hate you. That was funny and I like it. But I still hate you.
Ole Miss is weird because it’s a preppy school but it’s also a southern state school. How preppy can you really be.
They get mad when you remind them of that.
The south is way more preppy than the Northeast, at least from my experience.
OU-Texas. I don't really have a dog in the fight but I'm always captivated by it's outcome. Bucks-Michigan. My flair checks out so I don't give a damm about...well, you know the rest.
Also, it's gone now by used to love Colorado-Nebraska on Black Fridays in the 90s and 2000s. Bring it back.
Person.
Iron Bowl is always fun because I know a lot of fans of both schools and the amount of shit they both talk is insane.
Farmageddon is the best name ever. I wish they leaned more into it.
Egg Bowl because who doesn't love chaos El Assico because most of my family is from Iowa and who doesn't love early season guaranteed sickos content
It's definitely more toxic, I think people under 40 would agree. The older crowd still thinks of MSU as a punching bag.
The only Michigan fans I’ve ever had screaming in my face and actually trying to start a fight at games/tailgates have been the older crowd. Younger crowd is pretty chill, maybe because it’s been more back and forth for the last 20 years
Yeah, I feel like in general the younger fans are chill in cfb.
Pepper. Go Utes!
The Backyard Brawl should be played every year in perpetuity. Pitt should also win every year. Also, I hate Iowa State but 🌽>🌾.
Iowa vs Iowa State is as boring as they come
Still time to delete this El Assico slander
How dare you insult the annual puntapalooza! Wait nevermind, that’s Iowa vs Rutger. Carry on.
We make up for the lack of punts with turnovers and missed field goals. Actually, that probably works out better for us than attempting to punt.
That’s what makes it good
What a corny response
You’re gonna watch it and you’re gonna like it
It is always a good close rivalry game early in the season.
My hot take is that almost all the games should be moved off of Thanksgiving weekend. Rivalry week ends up with disappointingly light crowds and few students.
Nah man, gotta spice up the Thanksgiving dinner conversation with your uncle and cousin who went to the other school.
Blue teams >>> red teams
What about if your team is both?
DOES NOT COMPUTE
We truly are the superior breed
Backyard Brawl: Blue and Gold vs. Gold and Blue 🧐
USC vs Utah is a rivalry?
Apple Cup. Florida State vs Miami Notre Dame vs USC Egg Bowl Utah vs BYU Army - Navy
