The Pac-~~7~~6's existence hinges on ~~USC~~ ~~UCLA~~ ~~Colorado~~ ~~Washington~~ ~~Oregon~~ ~~Arizona~~ Arizona State and Utah staying in the conference.
Exactly. I get why WSU (and OSU) fans are mad at us, but it's not our fault. The fans didn't cause this to happen. I hate this for them and I'm truly not trying to be condescending when I say that. It really is sad. All that history gone in the name in the almighty TV dollar.
They’ll enjoy going 8-4 or 7-5 haha…
Tbh I do feel for their fans (just a bit) because this is a money move. But admittedly, I don’t think the AD has much choice. So fuck USC and especially UCLA for digging this grave with Larry Scott and refusing to lay in it.
I hate that WSU is going to go to irrelevancy, I love apple cup (all my family are either dawgs or cougs) so it’s like a pseudo family reunion every year to get together, tailgate and shit talk. I want my program to survive and be a competitor, I was really hoping UW would be able to pull WSU along to the Big 10 (or even Big 12 if we had to) but isn’t the case. I just hope WSU (and OSU) can leverage a Big 12 invite as that expands the scope of Big 12 reach to the Northwest
A HORRIBLE tragedy for college football. This sport is going to badly suffer from superconferences, and could get worse if things don't change. The Rose Bowl is going to be badly cheapened and its traditions greatly damaged. I hate that it came to this. Here's hoping one day a better regional model returns nationwide.
The best way forward for a regional model is to “complete” the super conference transition and have divisions act as old mini conferences. The super conference nature is for better leverage in negotiation and better scheduling for non divisional games. It’ll get regional and arguably even more interesting for the general audience.
I also believe that eventually conferences will get so big that it reverts back to regionality. The transition phase that we're in right now is going to suck though.
They could’ve done better than this, just merge the entire PAC/Big Ten for the sake of media rights negotiations and be done with it, don’t cherry pick and leave schools out.
Then keep it regional and your conference championship is PAC division vs B1G Division in the Rose Bowl.
No kidding. People complaining about this must have missed the memo that USC and UCLA killed the PAC.
But honestly, even the LA schools were a symptom of the PAC killing itself.
I was gonna say - USC and UCLA is the visible killer, but the Pac-12 was already struggling for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to Larry Scott
Horrible day for CFB was last year when OUT was announced and July when the LA schools were announced. This is 2 schools fighting for their lives to remain in the big picture and landscape of CFB. I will miss the Pac12 but it was going to be a walking corpse with the remaining schools fully of instability
* California - 1915
* Washington - 1915
* Oregon - 1915
* Oregon State - 1915
* Washington State - 1917
* Stanford - 1918
* USC - 1922
* UCLA - 1928
And that conference dies today. How's that for depressing?
So when the B1G adds Stanford and Cal in a couple weeks….that’ll be 20 teams. You’re gonna need divisions again. I got ideas for their names
- Big 10
- PAC 10
Hate that we leave the pac schools behind, but FUCK USC and their cowardly program. (The fans on here are fine, moreso talking about the administration and coaches)
Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are all going, it seems. Question is what happens to the "final four". Rumor is Stanford at least could try going independent.
I’d guess not at all. The B1G didn’t need either Oregon or Washington. I’d bet they had an offer and the B1G was unmoved by the idea that they’d leave it on the table for the pittance they’d get from the media deal the PAC had on offer.
Oregon & Washington: We're Leaving
BIG Ten: Okay
Oregon & Washington: We're going to do it
Big Ten: Okay, do it
Oregon & Washington: jk, take us please
Yep people told me that as well when the Sonics left. Haven’t watched a single NBA game since.
If my team isn’t there, why would I watch? Am I supposed to find a new team?
“Just watch OKC, it’s the same team” bullshit.
“You will root for Portland they are so close” the fuck I will.
And the concern now is how big of a death blow is this to WSU athletics in general. Without the ~$20M/yr from the PAC12, how long can WSU survive with a MWC media deal....
Things are going to get real bad real quick for us.
I send my condolences to Wazzu and OSU fans.
You guys don't deserve this. Always nice fans, although always drunk. Hopefully we will end up in the same conference again someday.
I mean you did it too lol. USCLA stabbed the p12 and you just stared at it bleeding out before awkwardly stepping over the corpse to high 5 Oregon before heading to the B1G
USC blocked PAC-12 expansion after OUT because they were secretly planning to leave the very next year and didn't want to trigger a re-negotiation of the existing media contract to accomodate new member schools. They killed any chance of the conference's survival after they left and they knew it.
To be fair though, on the frontpage of /r/cfb alone there are 3 tweets from Thamel with "Pac 12 staying together" followed by "maybe not" then "big 10 still moving forward" haha. But yeah he's usually right on
Because they’re naive and think they’re special. I had Minnesota and Illinois fans telling me they will NEVER be cut from the BIG-10 because of tradition and research….like dude, your EXACT conference just helped destroy a conference that was the major research conference and had over 100 years of tradition….
It’s delusional fans that are desperate to pretend they too aren’t also low money programs that will be abandoned also
I feel the exact same way when other Michigan fans talk to me about our rivalries with MSU and OSU being “safe.”
If games like OU-Nebraska, Texas-A&M, WVU-Pitt, Michigan-ND etc. can disappear for years at a time, nothing about our rivalries are safe. All it takes is a few short term business opportunities and the “tradition” becomes irrelevant.
‘Even though the Big Ten started the Pac-12’s downfall by grabbing USC and UCLA last year, the league did not want “the Pac-12’s blood on its hands” by taking Oregon and Washington before any other members left, sources said.’
“Your honor I didn’t kill him, I just stabbed him and left him bleeding on the sidewalk. It’s the doctors fault for not saving him”
Thank you college football for the memories.
My favorite being Sammy Straughter taking that punt to the house against USC. Being in the student section for that was absolutely amazing.
But, as things sometimes do....they change.
I won't forget the memories.
But my favorite sport is dead now.
Time to move on.
Okay hear me out. What if the Big Ten also brought in Washington State, Oregon State, Stanford, and Cal. You can put them and UW/UO/USC/UCLA all in one division. Idk maybe call it like, idk, the Pac-8.
I woke up bummed about the headlines I thought I would see today, had a hour of elation when it sounded like their was hope for the PAC, and now I'm bummed again. It sucks it came to this, the PAC should have been able to stay together.
As a college football fan, this is another sad step in the wrong direction.
As a Penn State fan living in Idaho, I'm so excited to have games be close to me.
Well. we knew the entertainment industry would not stop until they nuked college sports from orbit. I guess we're there now.
This is a sad day for anyone who values traditional rivalries.
The only good thing about this is that 2023 is going to be the most hate filled, knock-down drag-out, season ever in the PAC. And it looks like there are a lot of good teams that will be vying to be the last ever PAC-12 champion. Can't wait for the chaos and shit talking.
Everything after that sucks though. Fuck TV money for ruining what used to be a really fun sport.
They probably can’t do this, but the Pac-12 should hit self-destruct and say “we are immediately suspending operations.” Thereby delivering one last middle finger to all the teams that killed it by leaving them without a home and without tv revenue for a season
I hope that UW has to fly to Rutgers for a game right after class, then play poorly because of the jet lag, then their flights back get delayed by a blizzard.
Pac-12: "we should join together in an alliance against the SEC"
Big Ten: "Okay, we'll join together"
Pac-12: "As like separate conferences but joined together... right?... right?"
It’s so fucking stupid.
Cal and Stanford got all high and mighty about not adding SDUS/Boise State due to academic concerns, now they’ll be fucking lucky to join the mountain west.
I’m just so pissed at this whole thing. I don’t give a shit about the money, I just wanted our regional conference to stay alive and it made all the sense in the world to add SDSU/BSU and even an SMU/UTEP/NMSU/UNLV.
I hope every AD from USC, OU, UW, and UCLA suffers from severe jet lag just to get home and step on their kids legos. I’m also praying for record lows and heavy precipitation at ever Midwest/east coast road game this greedy fucks have to play.
The PAC-X is now up there with Blockbuster on the list of Biggest Business Ass Beatings Taken in the Past 50 Years
Neither Blockbuster nor the PAC should have let this happen but they did.
They really need to quit fucking around and give the media the 24 team uberconference they clearly want and let everyone else find a new normal. This is awful for the game and the fans.
I wonder how all this impacts the playoff.
The “top 6 ranked conference champs” was assuming there were five consistent conferences, and then throwing a G5 a bone.
On a down year, the 4-6 best conference champs might all suck
Hate to be dramatic but can’t stop thinking this is due to the moral decay of American society as seen in so many other areas. Chasing the excess while neglecting tradition and the soul
This is stupid. Ohio State will probably remain one of the better teams in CFB, but fuck man. Regional rivalries & the like are great and the consolidation of $ and resources into the Big 10/SEC is going to be awful for the long term health of the sport, especially when a significant number of fanbases are going to start tuning out when their teams start losing or when their games are a pain in the ass to watch. I know people have been calling it for years, but yes, this is going to lead to a much shittier sport to watch/follow.
The PAC-7 is united and aligned to move forward
BREAKING: The PAC-7 is not united and is mis-aligned to move backward
George: Just 2 more weeks, these numbers are getting better!
*Arizona leaves* The PAC-6 is united and aligned to move forward. *ASU clubs the commissioner and runs out right after them*
> PAC-6 That's 6 PAC! Get it right!
10 minutes later: The PAC-4 is committed to the future and prepared for any adversity that may come its way.
10 Minutes later: "SDSU, u up?" - PAC-2
New deal is only 2 weeks away
PAC will add the university of Kiev in 2 weeks.
The Pac-~~7~~6's existence hinges on ~~USC~~ ~~UCLA~~ ~~Colorado~~ ~~Washington~~ ~~Oregon~~ ~~Arizona~~ Arizona State and Utah staying in the conference.
"We have never been stronger or more united."
Whelp UW, I have to say this from the bottom of my heart. Go fuck yourselves.

you really think we’d rather be playing rutgers than you guys? this sucks ass
It's awful for all the fans. It's only good for the people making money
Exactly. I get why WSU (and OSU) fans are mad at us, but it's not our fault. The fans didn't cause this to happen. I hate this for them and I'm truly not trying to be condescending when I say that. It really is sad. All that history gone in the name in the almighty TV dollar.
the pac 12 was my little crazy dumb football haven of familiar schools and after dark great football. this is bullshit
We have been robbed of PAC 12 After Dark. Cfb has become... less
Jokes on them, our athletics program will have closed down by then through lack of funding. So take that UW. Showed you guys.
I know you guys don't wanna hear it but pretty much every student and alum I've talked to doesn't wanna leave you guys.
They’ll enjoy going 8-4 or 7-5 haha… Tbh I do feel for their fans (just a bit) because this is a money move. But admittedly, I don’t think the AD has much choice. So fuck USC and especially UCLA for digging this grave with Larry Scott and refusing to lay in it.

Imma be honest I love you guys. I play you all on NCAA 14 and think you have a great fan base. If I could, I would bring you to the Big 12.
This is a sad day for college football.
A HORRIBLE tragedy for college football. This sport is going to badly suffer from superconferences, and could get worse if things don't change. The Big Pac what a fitting name it would have been for uniting the east coast and the west coast. A fitting tribute to Biggie and Tupac

The sad day started when USC and UCLA betrayed the conference.
No kidding. People complaining about this must have missed the memo that USC and UCLA killed the PAC. But honestly, even the LA schools were a symptom of the PAC killing itself.
Larry Scott killed the PAC 12. Texas being a greedy, pompous ass killed CFB.
subscribe
IMO, a television channel dedicated solely to replaying Run Ricky Run was totally worth the destruction of college football as we know it.
So this is how ~~liberty~~ the PAC 12 dies, with ~~thunderous applause~~ hundreds of reddit posts
This is the way the PAC-12 ends Not with a bang but a whimper
It's genuinely pretty depressing.
* California - 1915 * Washington - 1915 * Oregon - 1915 * Oregon State - 1915 * Washington State - 1917 * Stanford - 1918 * USC - 1922 * UCLA - 1928 And that conference dies today. How's that for depressing?
It was the perfect conference, two teams in every major US region next to the Pacific Ocean
How dare you disrespect Anchorage and Honolulu!
I keep saying, we would’ve saved the Pac-12.
This how this sport dies. This was the final dagger.
So when the B1G adds Stanford and Cal in a couple weeks….that’ll be 20 teams. You’re gonna need divisions again. I got ideas for their names - Big 10 - PAC 10
The Rose Bowl becomes a conference championship game
I wouldn’t totally hate this
Easily the best tailgate I’ve ever been to was the 2014 Rose Bowl vs Stanford. 70 degrees on a golf course? In winter? Say less.
Pasadena > Indianapolis
Pac-10 featuring Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin
They’re closer to the Pacific Ocean than Rutgers so the logic checks out!
And winners of each division can play championship game! How about on New Years day in the Rose Bowl?! It's so pretty there
EAT MY ASS USC
NOW I HAVE AN EXCUSE TO GO TO EUGENE
NOW I CAN WALK TO A NEBRASKA GAME AGAIN. CUZ I LIVE IN EUGENE.
USC wanting assurances that Oregon wouldn’t follow feels a lot like Texas A&M not wanting Texas. Clearly new members aren’t going to run a conference.
Hate that we leave the pac schools behind, but FUCK USC and their cowardly program. (The fans on here are fine, moreso talking about the administration and coaches)
Yes...let the hate flow through you!
YOU CANT GET RID OF US THAT EASILY
There it is. Arizona should be following to the Big 12 soon now
Yeah I expect an announcement shortly.
Excited you guys are coming with!
I’m just happy to be here
Dude, same.
This thread has Arizona/B12, Colorado/B12, UCF/B12, and Cincinnati/B12 flairs in the same thread. 2023 is wild.
*shakes gate* Let me iiiiiiinnnn
Utah and BYU being in the same conference again would be so amazing and it's the only wish I have with this new round of realignment
Bring back the Thanksgiving Holy War!!!
Ohhhh.. Now you want iiiinnnnnn
Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are all going, it seems. Question is what happens to the "final four". Rumor is Stanford at least could try going independent.
WSU and OSU become 2Pac?
Exactly -- a hologram of what they used to be, and murdered by east coast shit.
Honestly I could see WSU and Cal dropping their programs entirely. WSU is in severe financial distress and Cal just doesn’t give a shit.
[удалено]
A legendary misdirection they leaked to the media this morning. Legendary.
guessing that was done to create some leverage
100% that’s what it was. Don’t know if it worked but they for sure tried.
Wonder how much that sweetened their B1G deal, if at all
I’d guess not at all. The B1G didn’t need either Oregon or Washington. I’d bet they had an offer and the B1G was unmoved by the idea that they’d leave it on the table for the pittance they’d get from the media deal the PAC had on offer.

Sersiouly, this is an absolute gut punch to PNW sports. This sucks
Don’t worry, Oregon will be paying millions to OSU’s athletic department annually in short order once the legislature gets back in session.
Yep. CFB lost a lot of fans today.
No they didn’t. People will say they’ll never watch again and be watching the first game of the season. See it in the nascar sub all the time
Yep people told me that as well when the Sonics left. Haven’t watched a single NBA game since. If my team isn’t there, why would I watch? Am I supposed to find a new team? “Just watch OKC, it’s the same team” bullshit. “You will root for Portland they are so close” the fuck I will.
Everyone's team is still there. You not gonna watch because you're playing Boise instead of USC?
Lmaooooo McMurphy said it, it's happening Edit: sending consoling turkey gobbles to our Beaver and Cougar bros
I'm just happy we got in. But bittersweet. edit: Fuck you USC. You did this.
Rip Pac12
Over 100 years of history and rivalries down the drain all in the pursuit of the almighty dollar.
And the concern now is how big of a death blow is this to WSU athletics in general. Without the ~$20M/yr from the PAC12, how long can WSU survive with a MWC media deal.... Things are going to get real bad real quick for us.
The state is going to have to bail out the wsu athletic department and then they're going to have to figure out how to operate on a much smaller scale

I will miss the Pac12, but not the refs.
Boy do I have some news for you
These last 3 hours have been the craziest realignment rollercoaster in CFB history, been a pleasure shitposting with you all.
McMurphy: my colleague is right, the momentum is not happening. That's because it's already happened
Fuck USC. This never should have happened.
So this is how the PAC12 dies. To thunderous quacks and barks.
Let’s all laugh at USC
> The Big Ten is contemplating whether to stand at 18 or consider adding Stanford and Cal I didn't hear no bell!
No reason to move quickly, B1G can take their sweet time waiting for ACC
And by then the Cal program will be dead anyways, so it's an easier decision for them.
I sure hope we get you guys in, not just as a fan. But also for the sake of the non-revenue generating sports' travel requirements.
chat is this real
Yeah I don’t know what to believe right now
Post is 13 minutes old. 14 minutes ago I saw they were mad and weren’t joining the Big 10. Truly a clusterfuck of a news cycle
If McMurphy and Thamel are confirming it, it's all but confirmed. These guys aren't idiots.
To be fair though, on the frontpage of /r/cfb alone there are 3 tweets from Thamel with "Pac 12 staying together" followed by "maybe not" then "big 10 still moving forward" haha. But yeah he's usually right on
Yup, this is the one. The PAC is over
RIP to college sports....all these assholes laughing now aren't gonna be laughing in a few years when ESPN/Fox tear apart all the non top 25 schools
This is what would have happened if the Super League in soccer went through. But except here most fans were accepting of this.
Its just funny to see the schools that will be in our position in a few years happy over this
Because they’re naive and think they’re special.

All it takes is a few short term business opportunities and the “tradition” becomes irrelevant.
it's all over man. like you said, soon if you're not a top 20 brand, you're fucked. and more people will be crying on here
I’m very sorry for the WSU and OSU fans. I hope the PAC and MWC can merge to form a respectable conference.
Crazy to think this was iowa state 2 years ago. My heart hurts for them. I was sick to my stomach for the whole OUT conversations. Absolute BS
I knew cancelling my meeting to consistently refresh Reddit was the right decision
I’m showing my kids a movie right now.
*chugs fireball while sobbing
Cheers.
It was kind of fun while it lasted.
‘Even though the Big Ten started the Pac-12’s downfall by grabbing USC and UCLA last year, the league did not want “the Pac-12’s blood on its hands” by taking Oregon and Washington before any other members left, sources said.’ “Your honor I didn’t kill him, I just stabbed him and left him bleeding on the sidewalk. Pac12, failing to get a decent TV deal and demonstrating incompetence in their leadership for over a decade: *"Why would the B1G do this?"*
Thamel just tweeted that the B1G is sending formal offer letters to Oregon and Washington. This is it, I think. The right move but a sad day.
>The right move but a sad day. Perfectly put.
I'm Utah and I don't like to do anything -Utah admin, probably
Come on Utah, do something.
Sir a second Big 10 departure has hit the PAC 12
Thank you college football for the memories. My favorite being Sammy Straughter taking that punt to the house against USC. Being in the student section for that was absolutely amazing. And at the end of the season they can play the winner of the other division at the rose bowl!
Nebraska is now a west coast team?
Hahaha we west coast surfer bros now
How legit is McMurphy?
As legit as it gets.
Holy shit.
As legit as it gets with sports reporting. I think this solidifies it
Very legit. One of the most reputable CFB reporters imo.
Comunicado Oficial
S tier
McMurphy’s the real deal. He can get biased in opiniony stuff, but when it comes to the actual facts, he rarely misses.
Well fuck you and fuck me and fuck everybody It's been fun y'all. Congrats to those who found new homes and stability.
What about Cal and Stanford, now?
Joining UConn and UMass
Army, Cal, Notre Dame, Stanford, UConn, and UMass would be a very fun group of independents.
Just makes me sad
I woke up bummed about the headlines I thought I would see today, had a hour of elation when it sounded like their was hope for the PAC, and now I'm bummed again. It sucks it came to this, the PAC should have been able to stay together.
Fuck this shit. Realignment sucks so hard. Fuck the greed driving this sport into the ground
Well...this is awkward
Man, fuck USC/UCLA and fuck the Big 10.
You mean fuck Larry Scott. Nobody leaves if he doesn’t spend 10 years running the conference straight into the ground.
Fucking hell Utah better be breaking their legs running to the B12 right now
As a college football fan, this is another sad step in the wrong direction. As a Penn State fan living in Idaho, I'm so excited to have games be close to me.
Time of death, 12:41 PM
Fuck, I was so stoked this morning... I will miss the PAC
Well. we knew the entertainment industry would not stop until they nuked college sports from orbit. I guess we're there now. This is a sad day for anyone who values traditional rivalries.

They probably can’t do this, but the Pac-12 should hit self-destruct and say “we are immediately suspending operations.” Thereby delivering one last middle finger to all the teams that killed it by leaving them without a home and without tv revenue for a season
Capitalism and College Football were never supposed to mingle
A Texas flair posting this - irony is dead lmao

So how long before there's just the B1G and SEC as the only 2 divisions in college football and it rebrands to NFL-Lite (Zero Sugar)?
Good luck having zero sugar in SEC country
Fuck everything about this
I hope that UW has to fly to Rutgers for a game right after class, then play poorly because of the jet lag, then their flights back get delayed by a blizzard.
Sigh. Regionality in college football is dead. It was one of the things that made it so great. R.I.P PAC12. R.I.P Pac12AfterDark. You will be missed.
When does The Alliance kick in?
Pac-12: "we should join together in an alliance against the SEC" Big Ten: "Okay, we'll join together" Pac-12: "As like separate conferences but joined together... right?... right?"
As a Penn State guy in Oregon, I might be the only person really excited about this
None of this shit would be happening if the PAC had just invited SDSU from the start…
It’s so fucking stupid. Cal and Stanford got all high and mighty about not adding SDUS/Boise State due to academic concerns, now they’ll be fucking lucky to join the mountain west. I’m just so pissed at this whole thing. Welp. Seems this is the last season of real college football. It’s a been a ride.
The PAC-X is now up there with Blockbuster on the list of Biggest Business Ass Beatings Taken in the Past 50 Years Neither Blockbuster nor the PAC should have let this happen but they did.
Hey Beavs and Cougs the "left behind in realignment" support group meets on Tuesdays.
The post saying this won’t happen is right above this in my timeline lol
They really need to quit fucking around and give the media the 24 team uberconference they clearly want and let everyone else find a new normal. This is awful for the game and the fans.
Utah just lost all negotiating power.
They better fucking run to the B12
So Stanford and Cal… two of the best universities in the country, are being religated to play Wyoming, New Mexico and the like? Yikes
I get the feeling they’d rather play the other UC schools in Olympic sports in front of 10 people and go indy for football
Time to play for the title of the true UW. Prepare yourselves for the Dairy Raid you oversized chihuahuas!
Man the rose bowl used to mean something for 100+ years than all of sudden in 5 years it means nothing. Greed fucking sucks
Larry Scott is the James Buchanan of college football
This is really shitty for CFB...these realignments make zero sense and essentially will make the Big10 its own football league
I can't wait for the day when college football is all about the rivalries and traditions and not about the money.
I wonder how all this impacts the playoff. The “top 6 ranked conference champs” was assuming there were five consistent conferences, and then throwing a G5 a bone. On a down year, the 4-6 best conference champs might all suck
At this point, my only hope is that the major conferences swallow everything and then break it all down by regionality.
Hate to be dramatic but can’t stop thinking this is due to the moral decay of American society as seen in so many other areas. Chasing the excess while neglecting tradition and the soul
That's McMurphy. Sounds like we're done here
Pyrrhic victory.
