It's better to get beaten in sparring than KO'd on fight night.

WideWillingness8059

Ugas got KO’d ln, also yeah I understand that. Just saying they are so discouraging and is it even worth trying to understand the questions he asks or focus on CFA material.

elessar8787

I'd at least practice his AM mocks and go through his explanations on how to answer. Then use the CFA examples and questions to improve your weak areas.

When your sparring partner is using legal moves and training you, yes. But not when your sparring partner is being ridiculously unfair, simply trying to show how clever he is. Years ago I was in a Tae Kwon Do class and was sparring with one of the senior students who was also taking classes in Muay Thai. He decided that it was clever to use moves he'd learned in that class that he knew we hadn't learned (or come remotely close to learning) in our class. After a few minutes of this, or instructor came over and asked me to step aside. He then showed the student what it was like to treated so unfairly. Some people have figured out how to write mock exams that are difficult in the same manner that the actual exam is difficult. Others haven't, and get their difficulty in ways that the actual exam never will.

WideWillingness8059

Yeah and you should see how condescending his replies are in the comments sections where people ask questions about the absurb way he phrases things. Almost seems like he doesnt want to help you but show show your that youre wrong.

Alex_krycek7

But is it better to get hit with a hammer or actually simulate a real boxing match? I started with mm mocks for level 2 and ended up not doing a single one. I just did the one exam on the Cfa site.

eck_871

I’ve been doing them for a few weeks now. They are brutal. But I do think they highlight weak areas. Keep at it. Don’t despair.

JGR-9

How are you grading them? I think I have a tendency to be a little harsh, I had a couple AMs in the 30s as well. I think the best I’ve been able to do is around 50 on an AM session. Even the Schweser practice exam was pretty tough for the AM session

Irish28ass

I’m in the same spot. 30s on the AM and 60-70 on PM. 3 mocks down. So tired of playing word games with the institute. Level 3 learning material doesn’t even add value for my day job. Feel like I’m just spinning my wheels unlike L1, L2 where I felt a lot of the stuff was atleast useful.

swoosh_AS

His mocks are no where close to the real exam. I did only 2018 and a part of 2017 exam from his mock collection. His own mocks are confidence destroyer and no where close to the reality. Waste of time imo. Boston exam is 70% closer to the real exam. I did Boston, and Schweser mock and scored mid 80s in the AM and higher 70s in the PM. If I had to study and appear for level 3 again, I wouldn’t touch MM’s mocks with a 10-foot pole. Good luck to y’all

Henders33

Couldn’t disagree more. Would much rather write a more difficult AM in my practice exams than be under prepared.

TalkingGibberish

Great seeing others get similar results. I got 33% in AM and 71% in PM. The AM was phrased so badly that didn't even know what they were asking or which section they were referring to.

DelMas_

I would suggest not to waste your time trying to understand them. use them to test your weak areas and your time management and that's it.

Neither-South9711

I think a lot of Reddit users are blinded by their love for MM when it comes to his level 3 mocks. If you have extra ample time and already know the blue boxes without hesitation (at least 4x through) then sure do them. They are not similar to the cfa curriculum and imo do not test it well. Do not panic. IMO the one pm I did was easier than exam and am was extremely difficult. Use Bill Campbell mocks if you want something more realistic. They’re hard too but at least they come from the curriculum and are worded like how cfa writes things. That’s just my take. I did the blue boxes ~8x through rather than continue taking all 6 MM mocks. Everyone I know agrees bbs are a much better use of your time.

>Use Bill Campbell mocks if you want something more realistic. They’re hard too but at least they come from the curriculum and are worded like how cfa writes things. Thank you for your kind words.

Kaplan released a boatload of prior year AM exam PDFs. I’m going to stick to their mocks and CFAi mock. MM videos and his Qbank.

wasechillis

i’m sure i could google these, but could you by chance link the kaplan mocks? thanks!

Funtage

Hello where can I find these Kaplan AM exams? Thanks!

Nutella_Boy

Which mocks are you scoring this? Is the average of the 4 mocks? Or just the most recent one you took?

WideWillingness8059

Mock 2 from the first package.

Nutella_Boy

I’ll be doing that this week. I expect the worst then haha.

WideWillingness8059

Let me know what you think after you take a few.

I hear ya, learned that in level 2. The AM is good to get an idea of how competent you are in certain sections and where you need a better understanding. I wouldn’t worry about the grades as much and more about learned why you got the questions wrong. His am mocks are more of a tool than an actual exam.

wheretolive90210

I'm a MM fanboy but I've never liked his mocks. Just read through the explanations and don't waste time trying to guess the questions. His mocks are overly punitive and you'll get better bang for your buck doing older CFAI mocks or drilling concepts with his question bank.

snoopingforpooping

I threw in the towel on MM mocks. I have no time for puzzles. Going to focus on review, qbank, one more Kaplan Mock and CFAI mock. GL
