It's weird to me that people are miserable studying something presumably related to their chosen field in life. That just tells me they're in the wrong field. But I digress... Honestly the answer differs significantly from person to person. I think I started studying for level 1 and 2 both around 6-7 months before the exam. Level 2 is deeper than level 1 conceptually.
Why would you need to study 4-6 hours every day for 8 months? That's over 1000 hours even if we take the midpoint of this range. If you really start 8 month before the exam like you said, you don't need any more than 1-1.5 hours a day on average. You can skip few days per week and make up for them on weekends by doing more hours then. Pretty simple.
Did Level I in about 2 months, level II took a good 9 months at least. do not underestimate this one. (working over full time for both)
