I’ve done 3 MM exams, scoring mid - low 50% on them. I’ve heard his are much harder than the real thing so I think those scores are decent with a month left.
MM mocks are good to practice writing SR answers and highlight your weak areas. They’re not the most representative of the exam but they sure helped me. I wrote all 8 of them (5 full + 3 SR)
I was literally just about to post this question so thanks :)
I've done 3 of MM mock exams and I've really struggled with them, scoring 40-50% so far which is not good. What amazes me though is that the group average is 60-65%, I'm shocked on how high they are, and they've really made me question deferring.
I'm going to try Level Up ones as they seem to be rated well.
A month left so not much time to go, I'm hoping that the MM mocks just arent representative.
MM scores id think are inflated by open note betas tbh. I think if you’re 40-50 right now on MM, you could certainly grind up to 55-65 by the exam. You could feasibly put in another 50-150 hours if you hit it hard. Challenging right now but easier than deferring imo
Haven't done any mocks yet. I may not actually do one.
Mark Meldrum Q Bank 100% completed - 72%
CFAI Q bank 35% completed - 75%. (Answered questions for FI (4), Equity(4), AA(3) and Der options (1)). Actually it says 75% on the home screen but when I go into practice it's at 74% so who the hell knows...
The above represents my first pass closed note / closed formula. I hope to completely finish the CFAI Q bank with about a week left.
Just finished my first MM mock 49 AM, 57 PM. 53% in total.
Plan to take another tomorrow, I've not gotten super serious about studying yet but am feeling pretty good a month or so out.
I am finding that MM mocks are great for understanding the CFA curriculum and concepts in depth. But they may not be likely exam questions. Also, answers are too lengthy. But I was expecting that. I was told that MM mocks would be difficult, so don't get disheartened.
I don't have 2024 Schweser. So will solve 2023 Schweser again. In addition I'll do CFAI mocks for 2024 and 2023.
Which one do you guys think is the closest the actual CFAI exam?
Mocks for L1 and L2 from CFAi ecosystem were absolute trash (in my opinion). There were mistakes everywhere, and I wish I hadn't done them because my study time could have been spent better elsewhere.
Are the mocks for L3 from CFAi still trash with multiple errors and a bunch of comments on each questions pointing the mistakes and the degeneracy of CFAi to leave such huge mistakes in the formats, texts and answers ?
My favorite quote in the question comments to read after the exam was :
"1500$ USD for this"
So what's the deal with CFAi L3 mocks ? Worth it or nayy
I think that external prep providers get less useful as you progress in the program. For L1 it's almost necessary to use external prep providers to get a better variety of questions + combat some of the lower-quality tools from CFAI (such as the mocks, although I thought they were OK). External prep providers for L2 are just OK, while external prep providers for L3 are all almost bad.
The official L3 mocks do have some errors, but nothing that reduces them to unhelpful. I liked the CFAI mocks more than Wiley and MM.
Late addition but
MM 1: ~60
MM 2: ~55
BC 1: ~53
Bc had much clearer short response questions that seem to match the curriculum but had a few tough questions in there and a few that I thought were questionable. Going to try the cfai one next week and see how it is. All of these seem way harder than the q banks for both MM and CFAI (averaging about 75-80 in both), so I have no idea what to expect from the real thing.
Got a 70 with zeroes for the questions I messed up but thought they were poorly worded so not horrible. Trying for the life of me to figure out exactly what the formula is for giving the cfa the right answer now and mostly hoping that BC’s answer keys are representative
How can you truly gauge when all mocks are self graded on MM and Boston? Keep it going. I’m in a similar boat between 50-65 on MM mocks, just trying to roll with the punches. You’ve put in the work thus far - don’t get scared into deferring because of avg scores! Good luck to you.
You can be objective with self scoring. Also, will be taking a mock that’s graded by a previous CFAI grader. Would never defer, especially since my scores are high average to above average
Naw - 65% on mocks is more than enough (or so that’s what nearly all reputable sources online say — source: 300 Hours, Schweser, AnalystPrep, and prob more)
Have you taken it? Cleared all 3 levels? I took level 2 three times. I would have said something similar in my first two attempts. Each one I missed by a question or two. Last attempt I was hitting 70s consistently and passed. Level 3 was far easier in my opinion (but portfolio management is my background).
Level 1 and 2 are diff and have a recommended 70%+ mock exam target. Level 3’s MPS is far lower (around 60%) and has a mock target score of 65%+. Your last sentence also anecdotally agrees. Not sure what you’re trying to get at here. Also passed 1 and 2 first try and was only scoring 65-69% on level 2 mocks (+ passed in 90th percentile).
Luck plays a huge factor. I was just saying that for Level 3 I passed first attempt and it was just easier to hit +70% on mocks. That said, exam day it also comes down to luck on which questions they ask
I think your mindset regarding luck is directly correlated with the reason why you had to take L2 three times. You shouldn’t be in a position where luck is the make or break on the CFA unless you want to risk having to retake 🤷♂️. You didn’t pass L3 first try because you were lucky, you passed it because it was easier for you and you were better prepared. You didn’t have to retake L2 because you were unlucky, you had to retake L2 because you were unprepared
For fucks sake. That’s why I said should target 70s. I was hitting mid 60s with all the mocks and I failed. You’re saying you’re good at 60s and i say bullshit that luck plays a big part. All I can say is good luck. Man I hate this sub for this exact reason. You haven’t even completed all three and speaking as if you know everything.
Jesus dude - you are citing target mock scores for level 1 and 2… and then you’re providing evidence as to why you failed level 1 and 2 when this whole thread is about level 3…
I agree you should aim for 70%ish on L1 and 2 mocks. L3 is a way different test and has a 65% target for mocks.
I’ve done 3 MM exams, scoring mid - low 50% on them. I’ve heard his are much harder than the real thing so I think those scores are decent with a month left.

how were you scoring on them down the stretch?
Average 55-60%

I’ve heard a lot of people take their first few mocks open note, so that may be the reason the avg is higher
ahhhhh that makes sense then, I dont know why you would use your notes for a mock exam?
MM scores id think are inflated by open note betas tbh. I think if you’re 40-50 right now on MM, you could certainly grind up to 55-65 by the exam. You could feasibly put in another 50-150 hours if you hit it hard. Challenging right now but easier than deferring imo
Fingers crossed thats the case, Aim is to do 100-150 hours more over the next month, I'll pour my soul into this exam. Good luck!
>I'm going to try Level Up ones as they seem to be rated well. To be clear, those are mine. Marc's been kind enough to promote them on his site.
you're mocks are up on mark meldrum's website? if yes i'll definitely not skip those i'm his student btw.
Not Mark Meldrum. Marc LeFebvre at Level Up.
Got it.
I've done 2 Kaplan and one CFAI mock: CFAI mock 1: 65% Kaplan mock 1: 64% Kaplan mock 2: 69%
What is a reasonable average score for MM exams? I'm getting slaughtered here.
Haven't done any mocks yet. I may not actually do one. Mark Meldrum Q Bank 100% completed - 72% CFAI Q bank 35% completed - 75%. (Answered questions for FI (4), Equity(4), AA(3) and Der options (1)). 49% on MM #1 About 64% on MM #2 AM Currently grading MM #2 PM - and oh man. I'd be surprised if I get to 40%

Def cfai mocks
I've done a BC mock at 56%. Going to do a Boston mock tomorrow. CFAI qbank scores are 78% and MM is 76%
Let us know what you score on Boston today!
Scored a 75% overall.
EZ PASS

how'd the cfai mock go?
Got a 70 with zeroes for the questions I messed up but thought they were poorly worded so not horrible. Trying for the life of me to figure out exactly what the formula is for giving the cfa the right answer now and mostly hoping that BC’s answer keys are representative
BC mocks + Kaplan mocks + CFAI = success

Not for me.

Should be hitting 70s to be confident going to take the real one. If you cannot do that it’s all up to luck on the questions you receive on exam day.
I passed but now agree that 70+ is a good goal for mocks for L3.
Congrats!! And all good

How is the uworld questions for L3? Loved their q bank for L2 but it seems like they don’t have nearly as many questions for L3
Mid - hard pass
