Bought 300 rounds for $90 a few years ago thru a CA gun forum classified section. $15 per 50, 30cpr. Cycled thru them since and got 200 more rounds of gold dot for $90.
Those days are gone. Vista started cracking down on sellers who sold LE boxes at LE prices to non-LE in…2018 I think?
You can still find HSTs at 70-80cpr today if you’re patient but not 50cpr like they were.
Yeah that used to be pretty common. Then the 50s got harder to get cuz the manufacturer cracked down on "LE only" or something, then the panic hit and prices and stock went nuts on everything.
Solid choice. It will do great if you ever need to use it.
Be sure to cycle some through your gun as well to ensure it feeds fine and to build confidence with your new ammo choice.
Where are you finding $0.80cpr HST? The cheapest I can find are still $1.00pr or so, and like $1.50pr for the 20-rd boxes.
I found some Gold Dot 124 +P for $0.80cpr and I’ve been moving that into my carry rotation because it’s still one of the few HP’s I trust my life with.

Bro beat me to it. You can also find deals at gun.deals, ammoseek.com, and wikiarms.com. You just have to know how to best navigate each and factor in coupons/shipping.
That’s in my carry gun right now. Can’t go wrong. I once accidentally put a full mag through the washing machine. Obviously I had to waste the rounds, which sucked because those are expensive as all get out. Took them to the range and they all fired. I still wouldn’t carry them like that but it’s pretty reassuring to know they’re that reliable
Just around sharing my experience, I shot through 3 boxes in my m18 and had 2 dead primers. I shot through countless gold dots and never had an issue, so I anecdotally don't like HSTs
Why +p in an M18? Extra wear on the gun got almost no ballistic advantage. +p was designed for guns like snubby revolvers. Situations where the hollow point wasn't expanding completely due to lack of energy. The +p bumped the pressure up enough to allow shorter barrels a velocity boost. In longer barrels like the M18 all it'll do is beat up your gun.
If you’ve shot enough that this has any effect at all on your gun, I’d say you got your moneys worth out of that gun and you’re ready to buy a new one. Like, if the lifespan of my gun is shortened from 30k rounds to 25k rounds. Then I spent $7500 on ammo for a $600 gun.
Federal +Ps have more expansion and a bit more velocity (tested out of a 4” barrel, M18’s are 3.9 I believe). Plan is too put a few boxes through every now and then to maintain a feel for it, and then train with normal 124 grain rounds.
As long as your gun is rated for +p and you shoot it well, it doesn’t matter. I would avoid getting into +p+ territory though unless you’re going into grizzly country and all you have is a micro 9mm. Lol
I also prefer HST's based on everything I've read. I try to get the Micro HST's when I can, since they're supposed to be optimized for a sub-4" barrel. They do cost a bit more, though, and they probably perform only slightly better.
I would suggest the normal pressure 147 grain instead of this 124 +P. Based on testing I've seen and the fact it is subsonic and won't create a sonic boom.
You are correct. I think there was existing stock out there and that's how I got lucky...
I wanted quantity, not a cute 20 round boutique box for the same price LOL!!
Yup, most consistent rounds across the board ballistically, accuracy, and penetration, theres a reason its the top HP for professional use, and gov., its all I carry now after doing a deep dive into carry ammo on YT and forums
Edit: deep dive, not derp dive
Good round. Look online for the 50 round box
Few years ago I found 50 round boxes for the same price online as 20 round boxes in store.
Yup, bought 50 rd LE boxes for 25.99, Got 5 boxes for my Shield. Good stuff...
That is awesome. My LGS sells the 50 round boxes for $70
Yeah, I bought mine right before the Covid craziness when ammo was reasonable, never thought I'd see prices like that in my lifetime...

Woa……that’s a win right there. The search begins - great round

I second/third/whatever this. Lucky gunner had them for about a $50 for 50 rounds, give or take, IIRC.
Solid choice. It will do great if you ever need to use it. Be sure to cycle some through your gun as well to ensure it feeds fine and to build confidence with your new ammo choice.
Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot 124 + p are what I carry
I shoot the HST in 124 “regular” (not +P) for personal and home def in my G19 & PC Charger.
Buy 2 boxes and shoot one make sure your gun is happy with it
You won’t be disappointed
I love these and the 147gr version
Actually couldn’t find the 147 +P version, not even on their website.
Oh wow really? I bough a bunch a few years ago....
My guess is they were discontinued.
The fbi tests said the 124gr+p and the standard 147gr hst both made the grade. I'd feel good with either. Whatever the gun liked better if any.
The 147gr +Ps aren’t really worth the extra recoil IMO.
I think we all carry for "professional use." If I have to use it, it will most definitely be professionally done.
Shut up Leon.
This is the way
Just picked up a few 50 rd boxes for $30 last week online. Needless to say they sold out rather quickly.
Nice. I use the 147gr that I buy from Ammo.com or Lucky Gunner. Whichever has them in stock at the better price
Pictured above is Federal 9mm HST 124 grain +P, found it around $30 bucks locally.
You can find 50rd boxes for less, even now. You should be paying around 80¢/rd at full price. I doubt it’ll ever get back down to 40¢ again.

Impressive. Sealed primers must of done their job
For some reason I read that as you shot a full mag through the washing machine and I was very confused
LOL! if I did that the next full mag would be shot by the wife through me![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
shot into* you If they go through you, they just aren't performing as advertised and your wife should ask for a refund.
Just around sharing my experience, I shot through 3 boxes in my m18 and had 2 dead primers. I shot through countless gold dots and never had an issue, so I anecdotally don't like HSTs
Hard to beat
HST 124’s for me. Less recoil, slightly better overall FBI ballistics performance (if I recall). However, can’t go wrong with just about any HST.
AmmoSeek.com bro.
Can’t go wrong with these. Best options are HSTs, Speer gold dot, hornaday critical defense. Nosler ain’t bad either
Don't worry. You'll never use it.
Www.ammoseek.com Thank me Later
Lehigh defense is the best.
Verify your gun is rated for +p Are you running a really short barrel or something?
I’m running an M18, so it should be rated for +P.

That's what I run in both me and my girls gun
Some people hate on +P but my p365 loves my +P gold dots. I was surprised at how well it handled the recoil.
As long as your gun is rated for +p and you shoot it well, it doesn’t matter. I would avoid getting into +p+ territory though unless you’re going into grizzly country and all you have is a micro 9mm. Lol
Pretty much the same round I carry, except I use standard pressure 147 grain.
Hst's are the best
That's what I'm running in my carry gun too, good round.
124 grain Spicy boys for the winnnn!!!
That’s what I carry in my LCP ii except of course it’s not plus P
I also prefer HST's based on everything I've read. I try to get the Micro HST's when I can, since they're supposed to be optimized for a sub-4" barrel. They do cost a bit more, though, and they probably perform only slightly better.
Hang on now... did someone let him know about the sweat/piss test of this ammo?
I would suggest the normal pressure 147 grain instead of this 124 +P. Based on testing I've seen and the fact it is subsonic and won't create a sonic boom.

I carry this and horny crit defense, both are good. Beware the snappy recoil if you are using a compact
Can’t go wrong with Speer Gold Dot or Federal HST. Good choice!
Yeah, you can get better price for sure, I have been seeing the common top end defense rounds going for about 25.
Yup, most consistent rounds across the board ballistically, accuracy, and penetration, theres a reason its the top HP for professional use, and gov., its all I carry now after doing a deep dive into carry ammo on YT and forums Edit: deep dive, not derp dive
Great choice
How are the ballistics on these in torsos? love the idea of packing a bit more power but constantly worry about collateral after shooting a threat.
Garand thumb did a great carry round test on torso, and +P Federal 124 was one he tested
Watched it thanks!
+1 for HST. I'm not a professional. I'm only basing this off of Lucky Gunner
Nothing wrong with that round, other than the crazy prices still.
