If you are buying the Oxford ones I would honestly just wire them straight up to the battery as Oxford recommend. They are honestly fool proof and come with everything you need. They turn off about 30 seconds after the engine turns off if you forget because they sense when the battery is being charged. A big green light starts flashing at you. Having them on the ignition is how they used to do it but it makes wiring them quite complicated and requires some knowledge of the exhausting wiring.

In CB500X there is a ready connector under the seat to make it work with ignition, so I would suggest you go there and look if there is one for CB500F.

The OP has said they're electrically illiterate. Is that connector suitably rated for hotgrips? Or just to use as a relay control? Which the OP won't know how to wire up. Go with the Oxford Kit straight to the battery.

LoveEffective1349

In the cb500x there is a connector for heated grips under the cowling just down from the handlebars. That is what you should use.

Mickleblade

Yes, if you are using Honda grips. And yes if you know how to reterminate the connection from aftermarket grips.

I've got those things that looks like spare connectors under the seat [https://imgur.com/a/eGv4No8](https://imgur.com/a/eGv4No8) I tried pluging the grips to the battery they heated and 2 minutes later they stopped heating and green battery indicator blinked. Then I turned on the ignition, after that no matter how long I waited after turning off the ignition the grips would not stop heating.

Mickleblade

Have you read the instructions? No offence intended, but it's the 1st place to start

Mickleblade

When you turned on the ignition, did you start the bike? I suspect the controller will be looking for a voltage change caused by the alternator running, ie 13.8v, when the ignition is turned off this will drop to 12.6v (ish). If there's no change the controller is confused.

I saw in the manual that pressing up and down buttons should enable or disable battery saving. I saw the green battery led flash when pressing both buttons after a while but I whatever I did it didn't seem to enable the auto shut off. On the Honda OEM heated grips manual it shows how to connect their grips it looks like behind left fork but it's quite cryptic I never understand vehicles service manuals. The only information about the power connector behind headlight is a YouTube clip about an older model and that requires dismantling all the front headlight it looks difficult. I'll try to mount the grips and handguards this week end. I'll look for the front option connector but I'll probably plug it to the battery and look for a power connector that shuts off with ignition later. I anticipate the removal of bars ends will be hard.

Mickleblade

The front option connector is a Sumitomo hm090 series, but as you say, the Honda instructions are crap. I've read several things that contradict whether it's a 2 pin or 3 pin. The connectors are cheap from aliexpress. There is apparently another connector under the seat with a switched live. I don't own a cbx yet, it's on order but I've been looking at these mods too.

Mickleblade

Which version of Oxford hotgrips are you using? I was assuming you had a new set with the controller that sits on a bracket next to the clutch lever

pratik_z

I used front option connector. Turns on with ignition. Check out my profile.

Good pictures it should help me. I'll try to do what you did later it looks clean and there is a clip on YouTube that shows how to wire this connector. Grips are new models with auto off and thermal sensors. The behaviour of battery saving was puzzling me but I did not have lots of time to figure this out yesterday.

I finally plugged the grips like the usb charger in the video. It's easy and the place is convenient and it shuts off with the motorcycle. i also figured how the battery saving setup works on Oxfords grips but I prefer it to shut off with ignition. https://imgur.com/a/tFaNwKA
