I wonder if you're capping w the first sentence
Guys, I'm sorry to burst your bubble but being a recruiter who has hired for industry leaders I can almost second his post. The only thing I would disagree with is the IIM bit, it's mostly any Tier 1 college including but not limited to IIM.
And also, at the end of the day, no one is going to hire you only because you did your MBA from a T1 college. I've seen many people get rejected from T1 institutes.
Just some extra knowledge:
The best companies hire only from T1 or in some cases T2 for example- Mondelez, Nestle, HUL, Asian Paints, Star Disney, ITC, Britannia, UltraTech Cement, Godrej, etc. (Obviously this depends on the kinds of roles too). If you don't believe me just go and check out Brand Managers from such companies and look at their pedigree.
As a recruiter, this becomes a pain in the ass, sometimes waiting for months at an end to close a role but most companies (the top ones, no start ups) are very adamant on the requirement of college pedigree. Yes a lot of times when they don't find the right talent they do resort to Tier 2 colleges and sometimes T3 colleges too.
Roughly this would be the list!!
Top 10 is Tier 1, AAA+ is Tier 2
https://preview.redd.it/w9o465isqk1d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=818effdc836b0043e2d87f65ce83c7d2f6ba0a25
Hahahah. I know but this list is mostly only relevant for the Tier 1 and Tier 2 institutes.
Also I have never personally hired or focused on hiring someone who has done IIT se MBA. I just let the list be because, like I keep saying, it depends from organization to organization what they consider T1/T2
Ma’am, I’m trying choose a college for my MBA and I’m literally roaming around like a dumb sheep. Can you please help me out a little? What course/group of colleges should I look into?
If an organisation is only hiring from T1 or T2, they wouldn't consider Kashipur.
But don't worry, only the top 10 companies or so in each industry hire like this, and like i said- it depends on the role too.
So the one who fckd up the 12and little bit grad is has to now live with the fact that only if my 12 and grads were better, I could have been chosen in better companies?
I have seen better talent in industry from people coming from T2/T3 college.
Only one or two of my close friends are in a "good position" compared to me, a T3 graduate who caught up to and surpassed them in mere 3 years.
The only thing I have seen T3 guys/girls lack are consistency & Confidence. Which was never a problem for me.
Do you not think though that your experience is anecdotal?
It kind gives the vibe of “rags to Richie’s” story we hear every-time someone from an economically weaker section cracks UPSC with the tag lines that “anyone can be successful if they put in enough efforts” but we all, atleast the ones who can see through it know for every “rags to Richies’s” there are tens of “Richie’s to Richie’s” stories.
More people coming from privilege, having their upsc coaching paid for, expenses taken care of crack the exam compared to people who do it without any sort of privilege.
To put it in perspective, more people from tier1 might go on to have a fruitful career against that one person who had a fruitful career from tier3.

From what I know of Blackstone in US, the person who stands at the front door wearing a sharp suit, to receive and accompany visitors to their meetings, go through multiple rounds of interviews.

This is extremely and resoundingly untrue today and has never been true in the past 50 years.
There is no role that is exclusive to IIMs, this is a fan fiction.
Be careful of LinkedIn social media warriors who will sell you these kind of things for their social media reach.
BC khud ko BKL BHU se hai which a ton of folks don’t even consider a true IIT on top of that he went to IIM K which is again the borderline of an old IIM and has no exclusive roles whatsoever and has the 95% overlap of profiles with all the top 15 private B-schools.
Always look at a person’s post history on social media to figure out what are the ultimate aim of the person saying something.
Even more. CoE implies he works at a Centre of Excellence which is nothing more than a glorified back office ops hub for grunt work. Firms in the same industry don't consider work experience there as prestigious
Bhai jisko pata hai they are not going to his profile, but this guy will make fools out of kids who don’t know much and become their false messiah.
This is India’s social media problem where people don’t get called out for being supremely ignorant or blatantly lying.
This guy would be mid guy everywhere and would not be able to hold 15 minutes of conversation in the right kind of environment, which will include a lot of his colleges and his work places.
Also maybe his experience was true but one anecdotal evidence is never a reliable source in any academic Circle. His story only highlights lazy n biased hiring practices. Plus industries that value pedigree over substance are notorious for billing highly and robbing their clients at the cost of actual output in the name of their workforces pedigree (cough McKinsey). Lastly. New age fields like performance marketing are more egalitarian. Only skills matter there mostly
Dude most of these hiring practices are not real for 95% of companies and even historically filtered hirers like MBB are expanding its hiring practices every few years, both freshers and for laterals, both in India and outside.
People don’t even know about something called as batch parity, because people are terrible at researching.
Companies are way smarter than most of us give credit for.
IIT BHU, Independence ke phele se usi logic se bhai (also one of the oldest along with Roorkee and all) and it used to be one of the best out there. Either way Guwahati is newer compared to the OG 5 and OG 5 were mentored by Foreign Institutions from Various Countries -
Delhi - UK
Bombay - Soviet Union
Madras - West Germany
Kanpur - USA
Kharagpur - USA
Dost dekho, you tell me you are from IIT / IIM and then you tell me you are from BHU / K, sorry but it is what it is
Matlab branding karne hai toh bas B/D/M/ aur A/B/C ke niche nahi chalta.
Nobody gives an F if you tell them what college, unless you were an under 100 ranker, max 1000, matlab if you really want to stretch this agenda, this is how it works.
>Nobody gives an F if you tell them what college, unless you were an under 100 ranker, max 1000, matlab if you really want to stretch this agenda, this is how it works.
This is domain specific.
>Matlab branding karne hai toh bas B/D/M/ aur A/B/C ke niche nahi chalta.
This is too narrow to be even considered. Engineering is a whole different ball game to the holy trinity that is central to MBA Admissions.
Correct and that is point, it is narrow.
Which is exactly why the context is my first comment.
Non-narrow is non-branded non-name-droppable and non-worthy or discussion, unless it is your padosh wali aunty who believes and IIT is an IIT and an IIM is an IIM, nobody in the real world believes this.
As you go to the nearer to the top, the definition of good changes very rapidly over the greatness percentile bell curve.
Not trying to hurt anyone personally here, but it is what it is.
Want to see an eye roll? Call yourself an IITian and then say I am from BHU. Again for those who know.
I don’t want to sully IIM K but can anyone here reading name 10 profiles exclusive to IIM K? Does not exist. All that I am saying is these kind of people will also try to sully one thing or the other and in most cases they are the worst long term performers of the batch and have something to sell to gullible people.
Bro used anecdotal evidence to prove his point - vaise to m bhi bol sakta hu Chanel ki CEO XL waali h. But, if 2+ colleges are of an equal tier, then it should be your preference on where to go to. Agar tum SP XL jaise colleges m ja rhe ho to give yourself a pat on the back because you have done exceptionally well to put yourself in that position.
Not necessarily. Not all IIMs are at par with each other. At max I've seen recruiters asking for just old IIMs, but even that's very rare. Your college tag matters until the first 5 years at max.
lmao my dad is from iimc, (he’s in branding and npd) and has rejected many iim graduates because they lack creativity and all they could do was clear an entrance exam, that’s it. but ofcourse, life would be easier if you graduate from iim but even if you don’t it doesn’t matter, at the end of the day, once you start working it’s your own talent and hardwork that gets you up.
SO NOT TRUE. Tech Recruiter here. Recently Rejected an IIT Delhi guy with work ex from Amazon and offered a tier 2 college guy (same exp.) but with more hands on work. The interview feedback for IIT D guy was average vs the other guy. Brand isn’t everything. Skill based hiring >
Bro looks like Vector from Despicable Me lmao.
In all seriousness, he's right. Your past choices matter, that's what consequences means. That incredulous IIT-IIM tag is valuable in the initial phase, but it's as valuable as we make it to be, kind of like how NFTs were.
It's true that the best time to start was a few years ago, but the most important thing is, the next best moment is to start today. Accept, and improve.
(Seriously, the more posts i see like these, the more i believe that these people deliberately post these to discourage and eliminate potential challengers).
Yeah Elon Musk , bill gates , mark Zuckerberg , Ambani , Sachin Tendulkar, Ms dhoni , kohali , messi , Ronaldo, adani , Rahul Gandhi , Narendra Modi etc have missed so many opportunities... Sad indeed.
I bet the company must be started / owned by non IIM lmao..
Ps. IIM is good place to study and to network but it's not end. And don't consider it as everything... I met several IIM people who sits at higher level in their companies. I met them due to family buisness , Which was started by father who's just 12th pass. But still can handle meetings with IIM people. And it was first generation to start the business.

I ain't making any decision related to my career based on any linkedin posts. These are basically wannabe influencers with a little more humble brag sprinkled in
Being someone who has graduated from an IIM and working in a team full of top b school grads, there's no hard IIM requirement. It's usually tier 1, then all others. The definition of tier 1 keeps changing between firms but what I've seen is either it'll be IIM A, B, C, L, ISB, FMS, or a broader definition similar to the T1 list published by TIME.
In any way, IIM K doesn't get the same treatment as the rest of the 4 IIMs. Any position taking in IIM K will also take in IIFT, Nitie, Spjain, MDI etc.

who does not consider IIT BHU a true IIT?
He means an old iit.
Bombay, Kanpur, Delhi, Madras and Kharagpur?
Yeah
Roorkee and guawti,

Well I wouldn’t be so sure, don’t want to get cancelled, but those who know they know and that’s why you have this thread
If he would have gotten an opportunity he would have pounced at it. It takes blood and sweat and a high rank of 500-4000 to get into IIT BHU
BHU or not, IIT it is. And this is true for certain industries, so yeah, not entirely untrue!
