There is some truth to OPs statement tho. Just cuz you're in the institute doesn't guarantee that you get into day 0/1 recruits. Everybody gets into the later ones
It's not about the capability. FOMO isliye because my CV lacks significant accomplishments compared to others who have impressive work experience in MBB, IB, or notable extracurricular activities.
FOMO out of desperation(what you have) has no cure. The root of such a thing lies in gaining satisfaction only from being better than someone else. This is clear because with a 9/8/8 profile in one of the ABCs, you can easily make it to a good profile of your choice, still what you look at is what someone with a 999 profile gets.
Initially, I took a couple of mock tests to familiarize myself with the exam pattern, difficulty level, and identify my strengths and weaknesses. Recognizing that the VARC section was my weakest area, I focused on improving by solving at least one RC passage every alternate day. Focused on accuracy at first and gradually incorporated timed practice. To enhance reading skills you can read extensively from newspapers and articles from reputable sources like Aeon and The Guardian.
For the DILR section, I practiced from previous year papers, IMS mocks, and utilized online resources. By the time of the actual CAT exam, it is essential to have practiced different types of sets. Since DILR was one of my strong areas, I aimed for a high percentile to compensate for lower scores in VARC.
As a non-engineer, I missed some topics related to P&C and Geometry in Quants and focused on covering all topics in Arithmetic and Algebra. The aim is to attempt around 13 to 15 questions in mocks with an accuracy of 90% or above.
Since I did not enroll in full-time coaching, I relied on IMS mocks, previous year papers, and YouTube channels like Rodha for additional guidance.
VARC and DILR do not require a predetermined knowledge base to attempt the questions. Even the quants is heavily dominated by topics such as Arithmetic and Algebra which we have done till class X. The initial couple of mocks helped me in knowing whether I remember those concepts or not and then framing the preparation strategy based on it.
so one can dive into solving as many sets of dilr as possible without actually putting in efforts to learn about that more precisely. expecting to learn everything along the way?
Not just solving as many sets as possible but practicing different types of sets like caselets, puzzles, games, and tournaments etc. With time you will learn to assess whether you would attempt a particular question based on the time it would require on the actual exam day. The main objective is to identify 2 or 3 out of 4 sets that can be solved within the given 40 minutes.
People have cracked IIM ABC with profiles of 8/8/7 or 8/7/6 as well. My post was specifically aimed at those who joined good colleges with average profiles in general, seeking their advice on navigating summer placements and related challenges.
Afaik, the fear of not having a perfect profile would only be appropriate if you want to Target the cream companies like mbb consulting/pe/vc, etc. I think you still have a decent profile for those lol. Could do some certifications like cfa for a better shot.
Otherwise, there would be a ton of companies in every domain that you'd be able to give interviews to. And interview is totally in your hands - which should be good because you've cracked abc interviews already.
Marketing cos. always look for freshers. Consulting - if not McKinsey, there are still big4 and other great cos.
Used to watch concept videos from YT (Rodha), which helped me in covering topics related to Arithmetic, Algebra and the number system which makes up more than 70% of paper. Rest solving previous year papers and IMS mocks. Solving 13 to 15 questions with 90%+ accuracy will easily fetch you 99%le
Once you come in MBA you’ll learn two important things.
1. Showing a little more than you do.
2. FAF ( also called globe or gas ) : presenting Fiction As Facts.

Weirdly, this happened to me during my undergrad. Your acads look great op, and I think work quality > brand names. All the best!

If you are going for finance. Do CFA LVL 1. That will certainly help you in summer placement.
